Gotta love German engineering I’m about to try and replace mine in the next few days this video is definitely gong to save me some time appreciate you posting bro
DirtyKurty. Thank you so much for posting this video. I am having the same issue with my 2009 BMW 335i. Did you need to disconnect the battery or did you do the ground cable replacement without?
mine has a coil ground broken but my car was jus fine now it wont start but it crank then loud air coming out sounds like the gasket zone through the back left side of the engine..
Did your car ever just shut off while driving but you still had battery power in it ? Mine is doing that should I try this out , also been sitting for a couple weeks so it does not want to crank over atm
It was hard starting for a little while, weak, then it stopped cranking, so I inspected this ground and it fell apart in my hands, so I replaced it. It did not fix my issue, I ended up replacing my starter to fix my issue
Had the same problem. Changed the ground strap with a handmade one. Still nothing, glad you worked it out.what were your symptoms before. Was the starter at least clicking?
My starter was not doing anything! All my dash lights worked and radio but would not crank. I put a new battery in as well, a new starter, and a new clutch switch before doing the ground. I also disabled the IBS to make sure it was not that. What have you replaced so far besides the ground strap?
@@dirtykurty92 I replaced, starter, alternator, battery, and ground strap. Everything electronic turns on but when I push the button, I hear a heavy click from the starter but doesn’t turn over.
Ah that doesn’t sound good! Try turning the engine over by hand and see if it is hard to turn and that the engines not seized!! Also check voltage at the starter or the positive terminal in the engine bay and make sure your not losing voltage somewhere. You have some connectors in the back of the car by the battery where it runs the positive wire up the the front make sure those are not corroded. Check for 12 volts at the power wire for the starter solenoid if all the above check out good.
Bro I’m having the same issue every thinks in the car works all my lights, the radio works the dash works, all I’m getting is a click and then nothing I’m not if it’s my starter or my ground
Kind of sounds like it could be a battery to me if it clicks, mine was doing nothing at all when I went to start it. The ground strap is pretty cheap so worth doing regardless! Try jump starting it if you haven’t yet!
@@dirtykurty92 bro i tired jumping it also nothing happened all it did was click that’s it man I’ll try and change the ground and see if that changes anything
@@jaywheelzz I’d hook those jumper cables from your battery ground right to your engine if you can, see if it will start, if so it is most likely your engine ground. If not try putting a volt meter up to the positive and negative terminals in the engine bay and crank the engine, see how low the voltage goes. Check the voltage before you crank too, if it’s under 12 volts your battery is definitely shot
Im going mad. Working on customers car. No crank no start. All lights come on. Changed that Relay behind the glove, nothing. Changed the starter, nothing, only get a single click to the starter, didnt get that before. Ground strap on drivers side is green, ground strap on passenger side by the exhaust mani is gone. Trying jumping from a car to the jump posts and grounded to the block. One click and nothing.
You can try ground the block better with a jumper cable from the negative terminal straight to the engine block, you could also verify the engine will freely spin by hand by rotating the crank shaft

How did you get an angle on the ground cable to get it out do I pull it off or is a socket needed ?
Yea you definitely need a socket, wrench, extension and a universal joint socket!
