God bless you, car was hoisted up at a workshop and they called me saying that it won't start and is pulling transmission codes. Ended up being the ground strap not being tightened enough.
Good tip I see that a lot on BMW and MINI’s but it seems like some time on mini a defective ground can cause a CAS module to fail but not sure on a BMW ? I sometimes I make myself a custom ground with cooper lugs and seal the crimp with heat shrink with glue inside.
Have a 07 X3. Had the car running and when i would hit the hit the gas and let off of it the ambient lights would flicker or dim. I started the car and cut it off a couple times cause i was testing something else. The last time i cut it off the car would not start again. Had the battery tested and the battery was good. All the lights and radio and things work but i get no start or crank. Could it be the ground strap. I do get the click for the starter
@mkane6258 Double check the battery connections. A loose connection can cause this. Remove, clean and recheck. The lights flickering would not be related to an engine ground strap. If all is good and you hear the starter it could be a bad starter. Try tapping with a prybar while cranking. Also use an external ground with a jumper cable to test.
Is it necessary to remove the negative on the battery and or both the positive and negative? Had my starter and the main power cable replace from the charging post but they didn't do the ground. Was just going to do it my self.
@robertpurvis6106 For this repair you don't have to disconnect the battery. Makes it a lot easier. If you want to though only disconnect the ground on the battery.
@AskTheCarExperts okay because I have been having an issue with my battery draining overnight. If I don't drive the car for more than a couple days it won't start. Battery is only 3 years old but the Montreal winters have made it drain to 0 a couple times. I've tried chaging the battery, disabling IBS but it still loses charge
@harmangidda6161 Have you had the battery tested? A weak battery can also cause a draw or there is a component draining the battery that would need to be hunted down via parasitic draw testing.
I have a 2011 bmw 335i. I have a no start and no lights on the dash or radio but key fob still locks and unlocks doors. Would changing my ground strap correct my issue?
@@garner29 Only if the ground strap is the main cause. You can make a ground strap with a jumper cable as well as a test from the block to chassis ground.
@@AskTheCarExperts ok thanks!!! I’ll try that. To give some more info I did have to change out my oil pan gasket in which I did have to drop the front sub frame. Maybe I knocked it loose somehow
Hey Roger, this doesn’t have any thing to do with your video. I just had a question about my 528i 2008 five series I want to add a transmission additive to my transmission. I believe I have a torque converter vibration. I can’t find any other issue that’s making my front end wobble sometimes it sounds like there’s pots in my glove compartment as well Lol what is the procedure for this do I have to have the car running to pump it in. I don’t know if you have a video on that any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Hey man im having voltage issues on my e92 335i i already replaced the voltage regulator 2x within a week did not fix issue got a new battery and alternator and im still getting voltage spikes up to 17-18 volts only last a few seconds and it does it randomly there is no sequence i checked my earth ground and its good it also shuts off my cluster, radio screen, and i get dsc, brake, etc im complete lost on what the issue could be i get a9ac and a few other over voltage codes any ideas?
@@AskTheCarExperts hey man thanks for the advice i disconnected the ibs cable and drove the car for 30 minutes and i had 0 issues if anything it started faster and the car operated better i plugged it back in and not even 2 minutes it started having voltage spikes and drops
I snapped the ground bracket where it mounts to the engine on my e83 Any suggestions on how to fix that? Or can you move the strap? Ive seen some people put a ground cable from the power steering reservoir to the support bracket on the top of the engine.
@@NolanWitowich Sorry to hear that. You would need to find an alternate ground point. It has to be the same idea of the same gauge and robust connection points.

Awesome! God Bless to you as well!

Will this part work for a 2003 325xi?

Can a damaged ground strap cause a parasitic drain on the battery?
@@harmangidda6161 Great question. Not the engine ground. Maybe the main vehicle battery ground if modules can't shut down correctly.

@ese_f30 Sounds like you still have an issue with the alternator. I have seen the IBS negative cable also cause some voltage spikes but that is rare.

@ese_f30 Use caution on aftermarket alternators. Get one from FCP OE equivalent. Costs more but non OE is garbage.
