      Hi....
      I am wondering what the best aproach is, when I have my full Amiga HDD install in an image file, and want to reflash it with the use of EMU68? The flasher tool deletes any partition before writing, and that is no good, as I will loose the EMU68 FAT32 partition when flashing. Though I use Linux and not Windows, but I suspect that partition management is basically same aproach.

    • @drunken1079
      @drunken1079 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@brostenen On Linux its quite easy : flash or partition the card normally (a fat32 partition, then a type 0x76 partition) then dd your hdd image to the second partition :) e.g. 'dd if=myimage.hdf of=/dev/sdb2 bs=4096' assuming sdb is your card reader, sdb2 is then the second (0x76 type) partition on that card..

    • @brostenen
      @brostenen ปีที่แล้ว

      @@drunken1079 Cool. But what if that image file with my Amiga HDD contains 3 or 4 partitions? Can an Amiga filesystem survive, when I move it with G-Parted? And then create the FAT32 and finally copy the EMU68 software onto that?

    • @drunken1079
      @drunken1079 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@brostenen Just dd the entire hdd image into the 0x76 partition, the amiga partitioning will be kept. the 0x76 type tells the emu68 sd driver that this partition should be treated like a full harddisk. Moving amiga partitions within the 0x76 with gparted will probably wont work, but dd'ing a existing amiga harddisk image, even with multiple amiga partions in it, is how i use emu68 too

      Yeah even though you big amiga guys have RC060’s with FPUs, many don’t, and that demo performance (black lotus: we came in peace) won’t run on my TF1260 at 97Mhz with soft fpu.

      @HoldandModify ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@drphilxr yeah I don’t really do the demos or games. As for the 060s without FPU. I’ve said this before, you’re really better off getting a FPU/Ram card for the A1200. IF, you’re more interested in apps and not games. Why? Two main reasons. It’s near the same speed as a softFPU 060. For those programs that use FPU, it will actually be faster than the softFPU 060.

      Appollo 1260 real or the FPGA under the same name. Oh. Towerized. The heat in the trapdoor would kill that A1200. I have a Aca1234 030 @ 50 MHz. 0 room left. FPGAs and RPis don't run hot. New fab process. The author uses TF1230 from I gathered. PiStorm is a toss board. In terms of software compatibility, everything runs with real hardware out of 1000s of games and programs I've used. Sorry, I skipped the ending. I wouldn't risk opening my A1200. It's running right now playing b-17 Flying fortress. I can't get the plane off the ground. I misplaced the original game manual.

    Just bagged a Pistorm form my 1200 so this video has been/will be super useful to me so appreciate you making it. Always informative and fun to watch you stuff! Now I'm no expert, but I was curious as to why there was no disk access speed up with the speed of this thing? I only ask because on my Apollo 1260s and TF1260 when over clocked there is a speed up with them. Like taking my TF1260 from 50mhz, then gradually to 100mhz there is definitely an increase in disk speed. It's not tonnes but it happens. I'd have thought the pistorm speed alone would have seen it go up 1mb or 2.

    Nice performance! I have one coming in now. The CHIP RAM thing is 100% NOT fixed. Look at your Terrible Fire results. CHIP RAM is 3.2x the speed of an A600. With piStorm it is 1.5x. it still chokes CHIP RAM, because AGA natively is much faster accessing CHIP RAM than ECS machines

      Chip speed will not reach the likes of Vampire, but it will end up faster than the current results. It is something being worked on. For the first release stability was more important. It should be plenty for most things run on it. Also the water is a bit muddied due to different types of chip accesses working at different speed.

There's probably also a printable side cover on thingaverse for it. As for height, if you solder the pistorm onto your pi, you will save some height so you can get your cover on. I'm not sure if you can get more height by putting shorter pins into the pistorm, or the ethernet jack will hit something anyways. Yeah, all of this is still not as nice as the back panel on the A1200 though. I wish someone made a single board sidecar for the A500 with a case that would leave the microSD accessible from the top. I think I missed a step here. When you tested just the Pistorm with your existing CF card over built-in IDE, you needed the 500MB Emu68 system but when you tested Caffeine OS, you used the pre-made image blasted onto another SD card. Does it already include a separate partition for the Emu68 stuff? While I do like the idea of these optimized systems, I feel they're way too customized for my liking....just like AmiKit from way back. So if I wanted to build my own AmigaOS system but also take advantage of the faster storage speed, I would just partition the remainder of my SD card that contains the Emu68 boot partition?

    I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong... I've followed the directions in the video all the way through (using plain vanilla PiStorm as an accelerator only, not CaffeineOS), and my Amiga boots as normal but it's like the PiStorm isn't even there, but over on HDMI the PiStorm is at the white boot screen logo. The only thing different is I'm using a 64GB San Disk Ultra sd card but it's partitioned exactly like yours with a 500MB FAT32 partition that I extracted all the files to. I've tried two different Pi3B and they both do the same thing. The only other hardware installed is a Gotek for internal floppy drive, an IDE CF reader (my normal boot hard drive) and an Indivision AGA MkIII scan doubler. All voltages seem fine, a strong 5.1 volts is getting everywhere on the board. Tried different sd cards (with the January firmware) with no success.

      Most of the setup is covered in Doc's tutorial on the PiStorm setup. I just got back into Amiga OS and it wasn't too difficult or time consuming until I went for the RTG setup. I never owned an RTG card back in the day so I was pretty lost at first.

      @@anakuron so what IS the difference between lite version available now compared to what is coming with the CM4 connector?

    • @anakuron
      @anakuron ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IntenseGrid I don't know what it is going to be but the main difference atm is that CM4 would be cheaper to buy as a new if it would be available, and it has option for onboard storage as well. The adapter could be more slim and a bit more plug & play but of course all of the ports have to be added to the pistorm PCB which adds some cost. I don't know if there's plans to add something like m.2 ssd slot or any other stuff that would make it way better than the lite version but in my opinion it's not very likely to have big differences since the biggest selling point of pistorm is that it's open and it's a cheap way to get a good accelerator on your amiga
