Since I saw EMU68 some 3 or 4 months ago, then I have said that this changes everything on the PiStorm. This is a game changer. Reason is that we are talking bare-metal, and we saw it with these RPI versions of Vice as well. No OS and file system under the hood that can get corrupted the same way as Linux when shutting off power.
Tossing out the Linux OS does have it's pros and cons. Greater speed and lower memory usage are huge pros, but you also lose all the tools, file system access and general hardware/software interfacing that Linux provides. Everything has to be written from scratch to work on bare metal. In general terms, running a program on bare metal doesn't automatically guarantee it is more stable and less susceptible to damage. That all depends on the programmers. But I wish the team all the best, they do amazing work!

I did look through your videos (not all and I'm burnt out so I may have just missed it) but I can't find things like how I set the CPU speed for compatibility or the RTG as I mentioned. Cpu speeds and things are in its config where you set the rom name. Rtg is a driver you download the zip from the emu68 Github and it had the graphics drivers for rtg. You will beed picasso96 from aminet to setup rtg w their driver.
To be a little more clear about bare metal. The mushashi emulator runs on a linux distro and is interpreter based. Hi Chris thanks for your video emu 68 and caffeine is brilliant is there any way you can mount a usb stick in caffeine os ? Any news on getting the Wi-Fi working is there a way around this ? A video would be good to go through what different programs mean and do in caffeine os Thanks Chris
So being inspired, I purchased my new Amiga 1000, pistorm, pi, etc. I've gotten the CaffeineOS image downloaded and burned, I've copied the ROMs to the SD Card (and point to one in the config.txt file) and I see the emu68 screen on the pi HDMI but the Amiga does not boot. Can someone point out what I am missing? Thanks Chris! You keep some wonderful technology alive... caffeine is rtg only it should boot right up, idk about on the 1000 with its 512k chipram, but i use emu68 as a base emulator, and made my own type 76 partitions and installed wb on them, as shown. you should get a kickstart screen on standard rgb if your rom is configured correctly, then take it from there.
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration thanks for the input. I’m waiting on my 3 A+ so I pulled a pi gpio expansion board to allow a 3 B+ to test. I think the expansion board is bad $@#! Now I wait…
Chris from what Michael tells me the sound (14bit) goes out through the Amiga, not the HDMI. :) PS. make sure you run the Nightly Emu68 not the master copy.
Hi Chris, love watching your videos so much so it made me get my A500 (which was gifted to me a couple of yeares ago) up and running. Managed to get pistorm & gotek. If I try to create more the gui just shows multiple of the one I have created. What am I doing wrong? TIA Andy & hap new years!
When you first carve out the disk delete them all. Make sys like 3gb then click the free space and make a new one. Depending on what rom your using is your limit of space/size
This is awesome! Any update on how well the classic Amiga games run iin whdload? Apologies if I have missed that vid. I don't think I did, but I may have with my blind eyes. 😁
With ungodly memory above that of a normal A2000 (that is 2M chip and 8M fast) - is there a "sweet spot" to alter the addbuffers for things like hard drives and the floppy drive?
Very good Video. Iam now at the point with the HDD. So i have a little problem: If i will initilize the Harddrive in HD Toolbox the System shows me a Minus Size. (Size - 1474560k -- - 1440MB). I have WB 3.1 and KS 3.1 not 3.1.4 is that the problem??

Hi Chris, I copied an image with caffeine os completely preconfigured for the Pistorm lite 32 raspberry Pi 3+a and I would like to be able to use it on my amiga 1200. The monitor I have is the Amiga 1084 S, because it is RGB, when I boot it I only hear the sound and the screen is black. Through Winuae I can access it without any problem. Is there any configuration I can do through Winuae so that I can use the SD card with RGB output resolution? Thank you very much
What did you do at 8:05 ,how did you jump Frome emu68 screen to amiga kickstart screen because my amiga get stuck at emu68 screen, did you push some buttons
hdmi splitter button to swap between the rgb out converted via my scandoubler "chinesium" box that takes the amigas native rgb . converts it to SCART, then that little box shoots it via hdmi to the dell monitor.(its sitting near the right speaker) . so the emu68 screen is rtg screen or pi hdmi, the button i pushed was putting the video back to the amigas RGB port, hence the kickstart screen by default amiga is always on rgb. hdmi is only after you build your image and install picasso96 and setup the rtg. i said it was RTG around the 7 min mark
Now I just have to find me an amiga LOL .... too bad I can't use my Pi4 (well, it's a CM4 but same thing) and I'm currently using my Pi zero to auto jailbreak my PS4 everytime I turn it on... dang chip shortage... but at least now I know the new system I wanna learn and tinker with... the amiga emulators for windows are fine, but I want it in my hands THANK YOU! :D
Hi, I have the EMU68 image but how do I get games like amiquake, amiduke ect copied using the USB port on my raspberrypi, and extra partitions since I have a 128gb card (Which I expanded)..
i'm using the minimig 1.8, with the pi storm and raspberry pi 3a+, but can only see the emu68 logo and when i switch to the minimig theres nothing on screen, have tried roms 3.0 through to 3.1.4, both amiga 600 and 1200 roms, any help would be greatly appreciated. have since purcased another pi storm and a raspberry pi, to no avail. kind regards
did you use the hd files on the minimig card? or carve out hard drives on the type76 partition of emu68? you need to use the bootloader with the minimig, which apparently is working if you can see the emu68logo on hdmi of the pi. remember to select the hard drives on the minimig, then save the config, and it should boot, do not call a rom or anything from the pi, leave its config virtually blank and stock. get it working then modify it later.
you can either cheat and download caffeine os from pedro cotter, or insert this card after carving out the partitions into winuae and drag drop stuff. BUT networking is coming to emu68, so once that does it will be much easier,
Unfortunately I'm not able to run my A500 with Emu68 microSD card inside my PiStorm. When I switch to old one (with old Musashi setup) - it works. Is Emu68 compatible with all pistorms and all raspberries (I have 3A+ version)? Tested with mapped and onboard kickstart. What I'm doing wrong?
yes, just mount the sd card in winuae AFTER you carved out the partitions, run winuae as administrator, and add the hard drives as rdb, ignore what windows says.
Saw it and appreciate the time you took. This is another no go for me lately. Do all the things just as shown, try different cards, different computers and every option available and hd tool box sees nothing. Honestly, I would rather buy and image. Thanks Chris, sometimes you got to call it. Back to Igor and my crippled or fried Vampire V2. It's been a rough week in amiga land.
I have an issue, don't know if you can guide me. I have in my board rom 1.3.4. I have downloaded last emu68 version for the rasp 3A+. Saved the rom file in the sd under kick.rom and make sure the code is in the config. When I turn on the amiga I get a black screen. If I disable the rom option in the config file the amiga boots. Don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Same here, tried different kickstarts from, 1.3 all the way to 3.2 and just get a black screen via the amiga RGB, but i can see the emu68 logo when i switch to RTG mode. Also when i delete the kick start from the sd card then try it it boots up as normal to kick 2.0 which is my physically installed rom in the A500+. Have you had any luck yet?
quick question proper noob here lol,, i followed youre awkard guide so 2 speak , and my question is how can i put files in the sd card from my pc in the 2nd partion hdd, windows see it only throgh disk manager and it not assigned a drive letter....thanks
thats not how it works, you dont allow windows to touch anything or it destroys it. different platform, launch winuae as administrator and add the hard drive files there. i did a video on mounting hdf files and hard drives on my chan a while back
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration That's what I did, it works. But it would be more interesting to be able to do live transfers without stopping the Amiga and having to do all the card handling. This is what I do on Vampire and it is very convenient to transfer files via the network.
Trying a new emu68 build. Formatted all etc. copied appropriate rom file to boot and renamed to kick.rom. Nothing registers and no insert disk prompt. Winuae or actual amiga.
Been trying this over and over, but cannot even get the Kickstart sceen, copied 3.1.4 also 3.2.1 even 3.1 but just blank screen, have renamed them as per config.txt which on the latest version is kick321.rom. But if i delete the kick rom and then boot off the sd card my Amiga will boot to the physical rom that is installed on my A500+ which is Kick Rom 2.0.
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration Thanks for reply Chris, finally got it sorted, for some reason the CMDline txt files was missing so I copied one from a working Caffeine OS image and it all boots up fine now.
no it does not, the emu68 is the hdmi RTG portion of the amiga, unless your running caffeine or something pre setup for rtg only the native amiga RGB video is theoutput. and it will not be active until you configure Picasso96 for RTG. i stated this in the video in great detail. i have mine on a db23 to scart switch that outputs hdmi so i can toggle on a simple hdmi switchbox between the two formats.
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration I can not get to work my amiga 600 with pistorm it is missing files strings etc this Linux nonsense I thought emu68 is the easy way to do it but it is basically another useless program to me but thx anyway
Hey Chris, I noticed Shapeshifter is far slower than this vid: th-cam.com/video/YNryF3T3AwE/w-d-xo.html Any reason with the Pistorm32? The Pi used? 3b vs...?
this user has a 3A, i am running the more powerful 3b+, i have also tried it with the 3A with similar results. the pimiga os variant on the pi400 runs it at almost stock Mac 040 speeds. weird. could be me but who knows.

hdmi splitter button to swap between the rgb out converted via my scandoubler "chinesium" box that takes the amigas native rgb . converts it to SCART, then that little box shoots it via hdmi to the dell monitor.(its sitting near the right speaker) . so the emu68 screen is rtg screen or pi hdmi, the button i pushed was putting the video back to the amigas RGB port, hence the kickstart screen by default amiga is always on rgb. hdmi is only after you build your image and install picasso96 and setup the rtg. i said it was RTG around the 7 min mark
Now I just have to find me an amiga LOL .... too bad I can't use my Pi4 (well, it's a CM4 but same thing) and I'm currently using my Pi zero to auto jailbreak my PS4 everytime I turn it on... dang chip shortage... but at least now I know the new system I wanna learn and tinker with... the amiga emulators for windows are fine, but I want it in my hands
THANK YOU! :D
Hi, I have the EMU68 image but how do I get games like amiquake, amiduke ect copied using the USB port on my raspberrypi, and extra partitions since I have a 128gb card (Which I expanded)..
EMU68 is a kernel image, download the Caffeine OS image i have linked in the desc.
Thanks!
i'm using the minimig 1.8, with the pi storm and raspberry pi 3a+, but can only see the emu68 logo and when i switch to the minimig theres nothing on screen, have tried roms 3.0 through to 3.1.4, both amiga 600 and 1200 roms, any help would be greatly appreciated.
have since purcased another pi storm and a raspberry pi, to no avail.
kind regards
did you use the hd files on the minimig card? or carve out hard drives on the type76 partition of emu68? you need to use the bootloader with the minimig, which apparently is working if you can see the emu68logo on hdmi of the pi. remember to select the hard drives on the minimig, then save the config, and it should boot, do not call a rom or anything from the pi, leave its config virtually blank and stock. get it working then modify it later.
id=76...........Mind blown!!
how do you transfer files onto it do you have ssh enabled on this
you can either cheat and download caffeine os from pedro cotter, or insert this card after carving out the partitions into winuae and drag drop stuff.
Download pedo cotters caffeine os. Its ore setup for you
So coool thx crhis
Is there any way to install 3.2 on this on the pc side with winuae. No gotek that works or install floppies.
yes, just mount the sd card in winuae AFTER you carved out the partitions, run winuae as administrator, and add the hard drives as rdb, ignore what windows says.
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration no rdb options available. It also only sees one drive instead of the two (250mb, and 28gb) i set up
Make sure your on a newer large hd supported
Rom and add the disk. It will mount the inside partitions
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration screen shot posted to you in messaging on Discord
There’s no accelerator support in 1.3. Use 3.1 or better
possible emulated AGA?
No
Why buffers only 300?
Ide is only so fast
i dont get the kickstart screen just a black screen
Same here, tried different kickstarts from, 1.3 all the way to 3.2 and just get a black screen via the amiga RGB, but i can see the emu68 logo when i switch to RTG mode.
Also when i delete the kick start from the sd card then try it it boots up as normal to kick 2.0 which is my physically installed rom in the A500+.
Have you had any luck yet?
Tried as well with DISKPART as Admin, no succes?
then you were not admin
i still dont understand do i still need a pimiga?
Where is the link to caffineOS Image?
Pistorm fb groups.
@@drphilxr i see so i get a pistorm then stick it on , i havent got one yet but im going to buy one seems fast.
This is a jit cpu replacement for a real 68000 amiga
quick question proper noob here lol,, i followed youre awkard guide so 2 speak , and my question is how can i put files in the sd card from my pc in the 2nd partion hdd, windows see it only throgh disk manager and it not assigned a drive letter....thanks
thats not how it works, you dont allow windows to touch anything or it destroys it. different platform, launch winuae as administrator and add the hard drive files there. i did a video on mounting hdf files and hard drives on my chan a while back
NICE ! But unable to transfert file from/to PC. NEED networking !
why? the virtual drives are a hard drive image, mount it in winuae and drag stuff over
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration That's what I did, it works.
But it would be more interesting to be able to do live transfers without stopping the Amiga and having to do all the card handling. This is what I do on Vampire and it is very convenient to transfer files via the network.
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration how do you mount the image in winuae????
plop the card files into winuae and mount it like any other hdf you need to launch it in administrator mode right click run as admininstrator first
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration i have made a fat32 partition, easyer for transfer files. :)
no need to run winuae
Trying a new emu68 build. Formatted all etc. copied appropriate rom file to boot and renamed to kick.rom. Nothing registers and no insert disk prompt. Winuae or actual amiga.
I did not know emu68 ran on winuae?? Roll back to what was working
I can't create a profile larger than 640,480
Been trying this over and over, but cannot even get the Kickstart sceen, copied 3.1.4 also 3.2.1 even 3.1 but just blank screen, have renamed them as per config.txt which on the latest version is kick321.rom.
But if i delete the kick rom and then boot off the sd card my Amiga will boot to the physical rom that is installed on my A500+ which is Kick Rom 2.0.
Look at your config file to see what it should be named… this thing is updated all the time
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration Thanks for reply Chris, finally got it sorted, for some reason the CMDline txt files was missing so I copied one from a working Caffeine OS image and it all boots up fine now.
@@drusso66 Could you list that these lines are and where they need to go please? I'm having exactly the same issue.
Don't mention the Emu wars.
Any one knows why my amiga stay only emu68 screen and not go to amiga screen ,it should automatically go to amiga screen and it not happening
no it does not, the emu68 is the hdmi RTG portion of the amiga, unless your running caffeine or something pre setup for rtg only the native amiga RGB video is theoutput. and it will not be active until you configure Picasso96 for RTG. i stated this in the video in great detail. i have mine on a db23 to scart switch that outputs hdmi so i can toggle on a simple hdmi switchbox between the two formats.
5:26 what diff is pistorm and raspi.
with amiga and pistorm and without amiga and pistrom just raspberrypi? kinda like amibian hihi xD
Nobody cares but I want a Mac version for my LC III.
I have a lc575 but its the 030
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration me too but way slower I think.
There are someone working on a Mac version of the PiStorm hardware. At least a couple of videoes on TH-cam as well. I believe the PiStorm discord server have an mac-area as well. But I have not been on Discord the last couple of months or so, and these things devellop fast these days.
@@brostenen I watched a couple of these few months ago, we'll see. PiMiga keeps me busy anyway!
@@stephanemignot100 Then there are actually no reason to complain, saying that there are nobody working on PiStorm-Mac, when there in reality is at least one person doing this. Sure it is being develloped slower, but it is something that someone is working on.
14:59 yes same amiga but it use raspberry pi and use amiga keyboard and mouse. why we need amiga. we can just raspberrypi again xD lets build saame thing without use real hardware if that not amibian then take emu68 and replace all amiga read part to usb on pi lol
??????? ?
16:44 its look same silly as magicwb. i like latest 3.2 grey LOL why we want old magicwb colorfull thing when we can latest good old grey xD well lets change it dark mode xD
I didn´t like the MAGA Cap!
Did you READ it. Apparently not
