Late to the party here, excellent write up and spot on. I'm old enough to remember the ads on tv in the 70s for this Rosso. the drink was huge back then. I've rediscovered it via Negronis and Americanos... I tested my wife with a Martini lemonade ... she's really into it... great change of pace for us. Thanks
Maybe Rita was onto something in Groundhog Day ordering sweet vermouth on the rocks with a twist. I bought a half size bottle of this stuff and tried it that way, it’s a really nice drink!
I'll have to rewatch the movie as I haven't seen it since I was much younger and wouldn't have noticed her drink choice. Will keep an eye out for this reference next time. Rafael
A good bourbon makes the choice of vermouth less important. Think Boulevardier (I do, several times a week). It becomes a requirement for someone trapped in a state with a monopoly on wine and spirits. Significant price difference between MR and Dolin.
I can see how this could be a bit too sweet on your palate by itself. Definitely try it in a cocktail! (such as some of the ones we've suggested in this video)

Ahhh, I think I misunderstood your comment at first glance. Agreed, there are better ones, but Martini will always do in a pinch.
