I think the album is not that bad, it’s just not as good as the previous ones. We are extremely spoiled with awesome music from them, that’s why we expect them to release banger after banger. But all in all it fits to the fact, that roadrunner tried to rush this as fast as possible. The misprints, the wrong album name and the recycled snippets from .5 are all indicators for that. They will come back better and stronger now that they’re independent and have as much time as they want

I turned my mom into a metal head with AHIG. Mainly Psychosocial and Sulfur. Slipknot was just too much for her outside of a Vermillion/p2, and Danger - Keep Away - which really could have used more of the album time. It feels like there is just so much more that song had to say.

I was kind of let down the first time I heard the album overall. There were a few songs that I loved right away (H377, Warranty, Hive Mind and Desade) and I really loved all three single that they released early, so for me right out of the gate, I have 7 of 12 songs that will go in my playlist immediately! Not too bad in my opinion.
As for the other five songs, most have grown in me and I have learned to appreciate what SlipKnot is trying to do and I think they are nailing it.
So for me, now that I have had a couple of weeks to listen to it continuously, this is one of a very good SlipKnot album.
    For me it is:
    Self Titled

Different doesn't always mean something is good. The truth is, I hate this album BECAUSE aside from a song or two, it has SO much potential to be a great album. More than anything the songwriting is what was killing me. The flow of the songs don't feel quite right and almost every chorus is Corey's stadium-rock style that he used in Stone Sour. I've ALWAYS defended Corey's clean vocals in Slipknot when people compared them to Stone Sour, and believe me... I really don't want to be that guy. On this album, it's absolutely Stone Sour cleans. There has always been a big difference between the delivery and cadance. In Slipknot, he always used lower tones with darker vibes in the cadance. Like a creepy factor. I went back and listened to Vol. 3 again, and his cleans in EVERY song had the creepy vibes to them. Same with every album aside from a couple of tracks on All Hope is Gone. Even on Unsainted's chorus, it still has a sinister feel to it. These choruses don't at ALL, and the style just doesn't work in Slipknot songs. Especially on the heavier tracks, it makes the choruses feel like they don't belong with the rest of the song. It goes from one vibe into something that contrasts way too hard. And then there are songs that feel like a hodgepodge of really good ideas, but they're sloppily thrown together and don't flow very well when put together. Yen is the only song that feels like it was written with a specific idea and sound in mind, and Corey actually used his Slipknot cleans in this one, contrasted with heavy vocals in the chorus, which was a GREAT switch up. I actually LOVE that song. The Dying Song is a good song too, but it's the same as things they've done much better on previous records, so I can take it or leave it. Everything else just had me scratching my head or burying my face in my hands in frustration. Especially Adderall. That song is an absolutely TERRIBLE opener. An album opener is supposed to give you an idea of what to expect. This was 6 minutes of a song that didn't belong anywhere outside of a record made in the 70s. Even if I liked the song, which I don't because it's just boring AF, it sounds SO insanely different than anything else of the album. Normally there is at least SOMETHING to tie each of their songs together, even the ones I don't care for as much as the rest... this didn't at all. I was just dumbfounded.

I've always rejected new Slipknot albums, going back as far as AHIG. Only to find that they grow on me. I've been listening to The End So Far exclusively for about a week now and it crossed my mind that people who only like Iowa need to grow up - or just keep listening to Iowa - which is my favorite album by the way. These guys are almost 50 years old now and you can't write another Iowa without stepping back into the mind set of a 25 year old drug addled maniac with personality disorders. I've grown up with this band and their albums all speak to a different part of my life.
They have become more melodic over the years which I understand is concerning to the Iowa-Only half assed fans.
One thing I did not like is how it feels compressed. By that I mean the lyrics could not be performed live without sacrificing vocal quality. (Yen, first chorus transitions awkwardly into second verse)
I'm not big on Adderol, feels like more of a song six than an opener. It's all right though if you just like Corey's voice - which I do.
The Dying Song redeemed all of my doubts from the opener. Arguably the best song on the album. Back up vocals seem to have improved as well.
The breakdown at the end of The Chapeltown Rag is worthy of Iowa.
It turns out I don't feel like taking 30 minutes on this post. Cheers. The album was overall a win for me.

The album's song order in the second half is a little off to me - it makes it sound a little too one-dimensional because majority of the fast stuff is on the first half, while there are some slower and less pummeling songs put together one after another on the second half, which makes that part of the album sound a little flat to me - Medicine For the Dead, Acidic and Heirloom don't fit in this order, in my opinion, especially Medicine For the Dead followed by Acidic sounds a little strange to me, but don't get me wrong - they are one of my favourites on the album, especially Medicine, which is a true masterpiece - it's a very powerful song, but I think there should have been something faster between this track and Acidic, or that Acidic should have been put between Hive Mind and Warranty, which would really serve the album as it would make the second half sound more exciting, I think, so this is what I did and listened to it in such order, and it has a way more interesting feel to it as a whole this way - the second half sounds as interesting as the first; it makes the whole album sound a little more diverse, with more peaks-and-valleys kind of vibe in the second half as well:
    01. Adderall
    02. Dying Song
    03. The Chapeltown Rag
    04. Yen
    05. Hive Mind
    06. Acidic
    07. Warranty
    08. Medicine For the Dead
    09. Heirloom
    10. H377
    11. De Sade
    12. Finale
This way it somehow sounds way more exciting to me (Medicine For the Dead and Heirloom go together quite well; the first is slower but heavier, while the second is a little faster but softer, so it gives them a more unique character this way. I left De Sade and Finale as they are, as they sound to me like the record's softer duo, while Dying Song and Chapeltown are its heavier duo), and I only put Acidic between Hive Mind and Warranty, and strangely enough, it has suddenly become one of my favourite albums by them. :P
