The 2nd 787 arrived in MEL on the 17th, 3 or 4 days ago depending on the dateline deal. Nice article here: VH-ZNB taxis in at Melbourne Airport. (Victor Pody)The second Qantas Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner has completed its delivery flight, touching down at Melbourne Airport late on Sunday evening. The aircraft, registered VH-ZNB, departed Paine Field, Everett at 3:24pm local time on Saturday, touching down 15 hours and 24 minutes later at Melbourne at 10:46pm Sunday (after crossing the International Dateline midday through its journey), flight tracking website Flightradar 24 shows.VH-ZNB had completed its first flight on November 30. It joins in the Qantas fleet 787-9 VH-ZNA, which arrived in Sydney at the end of its delivery flight on October 20.The delivery of the airline’s second 787 will allow Qantas to begin international flights with the type between Melbourne and Los Angeles later this month. Since November 1 Qantas has been operating VH-ZNA on domestic services, allowing its crews to gain experience in operating the type. With the delivery of its third and fourth 787s Qantas will then begin Melbourne-Perth-London flights from March 2018.
It was really sad to hear the news, that 99carnot has passed away. He was a great support to my channel and also played a very important role to my friend FlyWithLuke's channel with his amazing shoutout. Comments like this and the many others on my other videos were a great help to me, and many other aviation/travel youtubers around youtube. Rest In Peace 99carnot
Thanks for your lovely comments, I plan to upload a lot more frequently now that I have more free time currently. Next video should be a flight review of the Refurbished Jetstar A321.
Thanks, but I wish I could see economy class across the seats so I can get a feel of the width. Does it feel large like an A380 or squashy like a 737. What about leg room and width of the seats compared to other aircraft. Or did I miss that.
I had the LAX part correct, my assuming the Dreamliner was based in Sydney for the time being was way off. It would have been pretty cool to think your domestic flight was going to be a 737-800 to then see THE 1st Qantas 787 waiting for you instead. American's first 747-400 showed up for my PHX-LAX midnight flight, in place of the DC-10. We were served a nice dinner despite the 50 minute flight time. They had more FAs than normal maybe even a double staff, I imagine to give more FAs the Hands-on experienceworking the 400 .
I've made that Melbourne-Perth and return run a number of times (married to an Aussie from Perth), usually in an A330 but also in the Boeing 737, and...one time...a Boeing 747 "shorty", so I'm familiar with the route. Enjoyed the video and hope to get into a 787 some day. I noticed the Premium Economy seats but I didn't hear any mention of them (or did I miss that?). When we come down from the States we take PE seats...saving all year for them...and we really enjoy them.
I take the East-West route at least once a year, so I'm quite familiar with it too. With the Qantas 787s on the east west routes, they don't sell the Premium Economy seats. Instead they give them out for free to the high tier frequent flyers.
I just flew the 787 on Korean, I found the leg room very good , as I'm over 6 ft tall, I noticed the leg room very tight on Qantas on your video , Korean air much more room
Nice cabin review! Great that the IFE interface is based on the Android UI. The screen is also like the one in Singapore Airlines' premium economy class. I also like the extra stowage areas for the tablet computer and so on (just remember to remove belongings when leaving the plane). The only thing I dislike? 9-across seating on a 787, with reduced seat width.
We have a 8 he flight to Singapore on Tuesday from Australia then we were meant to spend to nights there then go back to uk on a 14hr one but our plane was cancelled so we have to fly Tuesday instead of today which is annoying but Qantas is a v good airline x
TravelFlow Interesting.. I saw an ad saying that they got rid of trays. The food is still in a box with foil but it's on a disposable plate and all the other stuff comes on the side of your plate
Great video, loved your meal reveal, subscribed! Personally i thought your domestic economy meal looked better than some of the long haul Qantas flights that’s I’ve endured, for example from Singapore to Sydney they serve only a pastry for breakfast, anyway I look forward to watching more of your videos cheers
Thanks so much, my favourite feature would probably be it's ultra long distance so it can do routes like Perth to London, which one day I really want to do!
Not quite sure but other airlines that have the same airlines are also having some problems with them.. just went on a scoot 787 yesterday that was having problems previously. There must be something wrong with that type of engine.
Good video. The seat pitch looks way too tight in Economy. PER to LHR fliers: beware of the DVT possibilities. Purchase a good pair of compression stockings.
Please be aware if you are used to the old Boeing 747-800 with soft cushion seating with just a hard frame on the edge, when people hit their seat recline button quickly its not so bad when you are in the row behind and the seat hits your knees, as the soft cushion prevents any knee bangs if you are tall and close to seat rear wall. The Boeing 787 economy seat, on the other hand, is dangerous in that it is made of hard plastics and a sudden full seat recline from the person in front of you could cause serious knee injury due to the "poor" seat design!
I'm 99.99% sure this is the configuration used for the Perth to London flights. Qantas have said that they have added an extra inch of legroom on these seats for longer haul flights like Perth to London. All the Qantas 787s are meant for international flying and this domestic season on this aircraft was a one off for cabin crew trials, so the interior was not meant for domestic travel, the extra inch was apparent when I went on it... so I'm pretty sure this is it.
Thank you for the reply. I was under the impression that there would be a special 787-9 configuration solely for Perth to London as it is an exceptionally long flight. I read this in an article where Qantas said their new economy for this route would be like a premium economy, perhaps I interpreted it wrong, it seems like its capped at 32 inches. Hopefully will fly this route from Perth around September.
These seats do have 32 inches which is an inch more than Qantas' other long haul aircraft. You're the second person who's recently said they flying the Perth to London route (:
This is going to be a great aircraft for Qantas. The 777X might be capable of the non-stops from Melbourne or Sydney to London or Paris as well as NYC.I don't think Qantas has other orders beyond 18 787's I've not heard anything about the bumpy taxi, I wonder what could cause that, the takeoff seemed very long.
I checked with the Australian Business Journal their article mentions that deliverys for the 8 been in 2017, Qantas now has two in service, I don't know the date of the first scheduled 787 Perth-London flights, early in 2018 is all I recall. As far as future orders: The airline said it had also secured 15 further options and 30 purchase rights for additional B787s in the future. Read more at www.businessinsider.com.au/qantas-is-buying-8-boeing-787-dreamliners-2015-8#t7FG6ciCLWvHcBgj.99
Well at the time of filming this intended to be a flight used for domestic hops before they fly over to long haul, but now the 787 is used for QF 9/10 Melbourne to London via Perth (vice versa).
No matter how much QF marketing dept. hypes this meal service, it's really just a cut down version of what was previously on offer. Gone is the starter, gone is the cheese and crackers, gone is the chocolate. What you get is just the main and dessert. QF has maintained or improved standards in other areas (i.e. inflight entertainment, new aircraft), but onboard catering is definitely one of them.
I honestly prefer it, all the omissions aren’t items which are needed to be in a meal, and there they compromise with a bigger meal size, and two desserts.
Thanks for watching (: Qatar seems like quite an interesting airline.. I haven't flown with them, and don't plan to anytime soon. If you're interested in Qatar, maybe you'd like my friend FlyWithLuke's channel, he's about to upload a lot Qatar related videos, if you like my channel... you'll probably like his.
TravelFlow in fact I do. I live in Dallas. Qantas has their SYD-DFW route. The longest a380 route in the world! I found a cheap ticket with them a few months ago but decided not to go as I had to be in New York for an event around the same time.
You forget to mention the one important thing that really matters on a 787 plane: is economy 9 (OK'ish) or 10 (sardines) seats wide? Can't even see in the video...
I haven't been on the Qantas A380 at all so I can't give you my personal opinion, but here's what I know. The 787 has a bigger screen, storage box, mood light and tablet holder, while the A380 has all the rest of this seats features.
I really, really want to do it in the future, by myself so it will be sort of a challenge for me, the longest flight I’ve done is 7 hours.. so 17 hours will be quite a challenge for me.
Hey mate I’ve got some photos of your aircraft on the same day it landed. I was at the Qantas Domestic terminal around the same time you arrived! Let me know if you would like to see some of my pics.
thank you for the Video. just thinking of flying from pert to London on such a small aircraft ,plus in economy makes me shiver. NO FIRST CLASS CABIN available. No, thanks nothing for me. a nightmare
Well I’m quite used to economy so I think I could do it, I really want to challenge myself to do it one day, especially because the longest flight I’ve done is 7 hours
It’s actually been nearly five years.. nearly and we are thinking of revealing our faces, but if you look closely at some of our videos.. you can see my face.
Traveled on 2 787's now and found them extremely uncomfortable in economy. They are in the shadow of the A350 for comfort but the airlines must love them to save money.
The A350 is in competition with the 777, Airbus grew the aircraft beyond the original specs. As far as economy the fuel per seat mile cost is lower on the 787! The price is sufficiently lower and it's a great deal easier to fill. The later is why Qantas and Singapore are storing or planning on storing some of their A380's. The 787 is primary directed at smaller cities that can't fill a 747-8, 777, A380 or 747-400 for long international flights, such as Denver to Hong Kong/Tokyo
Who were the carriers? There are a number of LCC Airlines that have cut pitch down to '30 inches on long flights, domestic routes on the LCC 737, 320, are down to 28" Pure Hell. My butt cant tell much difference in 1/2" width. It's the pitch that kills me I try and book economy plus on United and Delta when offered
What you get in Australia for a 3hour 30Minute flight,a Boeing 787 Dreamliner with ife and reclinable seats. What you get in Europe for a 3hour 30minute flight,A Boeing 737 with no ife and no reclinable seats (ryanair)
Well over 8,000 have watched this video and over 100 people like it... I'm very well aware that flight reviews aren't for everyone, and you're one of them. I love watching other peoples flight reviews and many other people do to, you're just not interested in it, so go watch another video..
TravelFlow U r in a way telling me that numbers of viewers reveal the interest of a vid.. I bet u r more interested in scoring views or thumbs up ....than offering real quality ....why not... Numbers/quantity is not a synonym of quality ... There r millions of people having bad taste on earth ... u just feed them (and get some coins , which is Good) Keep filming ur meals and breads if it turns u on .😂😂 And let me find it weird and useless ..
I'm sure his motive was to make a review of his own as he loves other peoples reviews. I'm sure there was a little bit of bragging rights being able to say he has been on a Qantas 787
don't watch if you don't like this. flight reviews (seat, food, etc.) are very useful unless you don't have any intention to fly, you don't have to watch nor comment
Susanti Phan It has nothing to see w the intention of flying or not. Just said that I find it totally useless weird..and a bit ridiculous . I choose airline I m flying w cause of the schedule .. the price ..the dates and the crew reputation . That s it ... not cause they serve beans instead of rice or because I watched a flight review on TH-cam !!! And I prefer enjoying the flight instead of filming seats, ceiling, food , drinks , armrest , legrest ....
Great vid. The dinner part cracked me up, stabbing the fork in and out of the food with the music stopping and starting. LOL. :)
Glad it made you chuckle, thanks for watching :)
you cracked me up to lol
love flying qantas non stop back to perth done it 4times number 5 in feb cant wait to go home to see family not since covid best airline

Good review. Will use Qantas again the next time I'm going to Australia.
Omg I’ve been wating for this forever great work buddy as always 👏🤗
Thanks for your lovely comments, I plan to upload a lot more frequently now that I have more free time currently. Next video should be a flight review of the Refurbished Jetstar A321.
The bumpy taxi wasnt a 787 problem, it's a Melbourne problem. Rex turbo props have the same problem, same with virgin.
Ah.. right, thanks for clearing that up.
Great review, I like the comments and some of the items you spoke of, I was not aware of the hidden compartment. Cheers
Glad to hear, thanks for watching :)
Thanks, but I wish I could see economy class across the seats so I can get a feel of the width. Does it feel large like an A380 or squashy like a 737. What about leg room and width of the seats compared to other aircraft. Or did I miss that.
The 787 doesn't feel like a 737 since the cabin is nice and large, but the seats are quite narrow, unlike the A380.
I don’t normally like voice overs on a trip report. However I quite enjoyed yours. Great work 👍🏿
Thanks a lot, I do think about quite a lot how I should do my voice overs so they don't take away from the experience of flying.
As part of Qantas training phase, the two 787 seem to have been termporaily assigned to Sydney-LAX
Ok, didn't know that :)

I knew that I was going on the 787 because it said that we were going on a 787 on the booking system, so it wasn’t a surprise.
That's an amazing review, extremely well done! The Qantas Dreamliner seems to be very nice! Liked and subscribed! :)

Nice video! Economy seats are very tight! :-)
Great video thanks for sharing your awesome 787 experience
You’re very welcome :)
I just flew the 787 on Korean, I found the leg room very good , as I'm over 6 ft tall, I noticed the leg room very tight on Qantas on your video , Korean air much more room

I think it was 2.
Thanks so much for this video..!!!
You're welcome :)
I love your videos. I have been on a qantas 787 it is thd best👍👍👍
I would agree that the Qantas 787 is one of the best aircraft.
Well put together mate!
Thanks a lot :)
Your bumpy experience is the poor taxi Way's over Melbourne happened to me on a 737 and 787 at Melbourne otherwise good review
Oh.. right, thanks for watching!
Yeah that section of taxi way is very uneven
Thanks for reinforcing my no economy ever again policy... business or dont bother going ! :)
as an aviation geek myself i gotta subscribe to your channel. I love the video you made and i love flying
Thanks for all the kind words, I love flying too...
Qantas international food doesn't come on a tray, the way you got it was the way I did in December from lax-syd
Well I'm not sure what was going on with your flight then?
TravelFlow Interesting.. I saw an ad saying that they got rid of trays. The food is still in a box with foil but it's on a disposable plate and all the other stuff comes on the side of your plate
How long was the flight please?
Great Southern Land has been way down to Antarctica once or twice as well...
The was a hell of a smooth landing 😍
I know, right!
Excellent video!
Thanks a lot :)
Great video mate! Good review of the whole aircraft
Thanks :)
Beautifully crafted! Earned yourself a sub!
Thanks a lot :)
Good review. I like the music intro, though it could have a much better track. The 787 cabin design is well thought out and Qantas has a good service.
What goes into a good music intro?
Sweet video mate!
+Paul Stewart Thanks so much for watching, love your videos :)
Awesome review
very interesting to watch
I’m glad this review was very interesting to watch :)

Cheers to you too :)
787-9 is legendary
Agreed.
Great review, thanks.
Thanks ;)
Great video, loved your meal reveal, subscribed! Personally i thought your domestic economy meal looked better than some of the long haul Qantas flights that’s I’ve endured, for example from Singapore to Sydney they serve only a pastry for breakfast, anyway I look forward to watching more of your videos cheers
Thanks for watching, I really don’t like how Qantas does that for breakfast, I think it would be better if they did a meal
Very nice review. Thanks and cheers.
Cheers :)
Awesome review! Loved the detailed commentary! Which is your favourite feature of the B787? :)
Thanks so much, my favourite feature would probably be it's ultra long distance so it can do routes like Perth to London, which one day I really want to do!
Awesome Review of Da 787 🔥😎
Thanks for da good comment
What is happening with Air New Zealand 787-9 Trent 1000 engines. Replacement planes are now being used. I like ANZ, great people and service.
Not quite sure but other airlines that have the same airlines are also having some problems with them.. just went on a scoot 787 yesterday that was having problems previously. There must be something wrong with that type of engine.
Great review as always
Thanks :)
Well done! Liked.
Thanks :)
Good video. The seat pitch looks way too tight in Economy. PER to LHR fliers: beware of the DVT possibilities. Purchase a good pair of compression stockings.
+mvbo31 Keep in mind I'm quite tall. Thanks for watching
@@TooTechnical How tall are you?
Please be aware if you are used to the old Boeing 747-800 with soft cushion seating with just a hard frame on the edge, when people hit their seat recline button quickly its not so bad when you are in the row behind and the seat hits your knees, as the soft cushion prevents any knee bangs if you are tall and close to seat rear wall. Never noticed that, good point.
On the first flight this Saturday !
I'll be there to see you off!
I am avoiding any longhaul flight on the 787, because of it's 9-abreast in economy.
+kurbiscremesuppe Doesn't bother me.. if no one told me the seats are not limited narrower than normal, I wouldn't of noticed
Will this exact configuration be used on Perth to London flight? Or will the economy for that have a bit more legroom?
The 777X might be capable of the non-stops from Melbourne or Sydney to London or Paris as well as NYC.I don't think Qantas has other orders beyond 18 787's
I've not heard anything about the bumpy taxi, I wonder what could cause that, the takeoff seemed very long.
I thought Qantas only ordered eight and has options for some more... anyway I believe that the bumpy taxiing is Melbourne Airports fault.
I checked with the Australian Business Journal their article mentions that deliverys for the 8 been in 2017, Qantas now has two in service, I don't know the date of the first scheduled 787 Perth-London flights, early in 2018 is all I recall. TravelFlow oops man I meant Qantas hahaha. The new 787 looks great
TravelFlow I will check out his channel too
Yeah, it is quite impressive, do you live somewhere that Qantas flies to?
TravelFlow in fact I do. I live in Dallas. Qantas has their SYD-DFW route. The longest a380 route in the world! I found a cheap ticket with them a few months ago but decided not to go as I had to be in New York for an event around the same time.
There no way I would be in that seat for 20 hours, they had one went from New York to Australia none stop.
I'd be confident to try it, however the longest flight I've been on is seven hours..
Do you like the 787 better than the a330
They both have their advantages. However in the context of Qantas the 787 wins due to it's legroom and newer seats.
Where is the uncensored version? I want to see the uncensored (adult) version of this review video. My mama said I can.
You forget to mention the one important thing that really matters on a 787 plane: is economy 9 (OK'ish) or 10 (sardines) seats wide? Can't even see in the video...

It looks great and all. But, geez, 17 hours in Economy is a big ask....
Yeah, although I'd like to try it in a couple of years.
a long flight in the super uncomfortable and crammed B787 economy class must be torture!!
It's not torture if you're skinny, passengers of size may find it a bit tight
Andrea Mendes I flew from Perth to London on a Qf 787 and it was comfortable. The time went quickly
Ah! So they are running 787 on a domestic route. Cheers.
I don't think they do anymore.. unfortunately. (unless you're doing the MEL-PER leg of the Perth to London route)
Thanks for looking down the shitter for us 🤣
Pretty bog standard seat. 787 is just an improved 737, nothing more, nothing less. Nothing revolutionary!

Cool, what is the longest flight you've been on?
I would survive
Have you done a really long flight before?
DFW to LAX 3 hours 30 minutes Boeing 777-200ER American
Perth to London is like six times the amount of that!
Yeah but the plane is so nice it wouldn't matter
That was a slow take off 😂
I see..
The engine is very quiet !!
I would disagree, I think they’re some of the loudest!
Shame pitch so squeezy. I'm naive but I long for the day when pitch is 34" or more! Lala land I know.
This is one of the better aircraft when it comes to legroom.
Three years and still no face reveal
It’s actually been nearly five years.. nearly and we are thinking of revealing our faces, but if you look closely at some of our videos.. you can see my face.
Traveled on 2 787's now and found them extremely uncomfortable in economy. They are in the shadow of the A350 for comfort but the airlines must love them to save money.
Haven’t been on the A350, but I’ve heard they’re really good.
When you get the chance to fly one do and I'm sure you will notice the difference.
I may do in December 2019
1:42 nice joke mate XD
Someone got the joke, which is good to hear :)
Tiger air from Perth to Melbourne, boring as bat shit. sorry for saying that, but it is so true.
Just came back on a tiger air Sydney to Perth trip, I definitely have some things to say about it.
model airport
What do you mean by that?
What you get in Australia for a 3hour 30Minute flight,a Boeing 787 Dreamliner with ife and reclinable seats.
What you get in Europe for a 3hour 30minute flight,A Boeing 737 with no ife and no reclinable seats (ryanair)
I guess we're a bit privileged living in Australia...
Fellow Person but price difference
Commentary a bit daggy.
I'll try to be less daggy next time.
Nice lag. You shave.
Ok
I have done this flight so many times, it is no longer remotely INTERESTING.
Lucky you :)
I rated the review 4.5/10
What did it do wrong to lose 6.5 marks?
Gay
Your feedback is truly appreciated.
I do not see the point in seeing someone boarding (w 15 min delay OMG) sitting , eating , making comments (i-e, food)...
In my opinion ..useless vid
Well over 8,000 have watched this video and over 100 people like it... I'm very well aware that flight reviews aren't for everyone, and you're one of them. I love watching other peoples flight reviews and many other people do to, you're just not interested in it, so go watch another video..
TravelFlow U r in a way telling me that numbers of viewers reveal the interest of a vid..
I bet u r more interested in scoring views or thumbs up ....than offering real quality ....why not...
Numbers/quantity is not a synonym of quality ...
There r millions of people having bad taste on earth ... u just feed them (and get some coins , which is
Good)
Keep filming ur meals and breads if it turns u on .😂😂
And let me find it weird and useless ..
