    Whoa. I'm not sure what has been happening with premium economy products lately, but I really like the direction that the airlines are taking it.
    This is footage from QANTAS flight 50 from San Francisco (SFO) to Melbourne (MEL). Total flying time was a tick under 15 hours, and I was seated in 20A - a premium economy seat in the bulkhead row. The aircraft was a 787-9, registered as VH-ZNA.

    Premium Economy on Qantas looks like a good product. Little things like linen napkins and proper glassware make a difference in my opinion. Takes me back to the early days of flying. Thanks for sharing.

      I agree had a 2 hour connection in Sydney from Melbourne
      The Qantas transfer desk to T1 was an 30 minute wait and then when we got there (another half hour later) security was terrible and trying to find our gate was a nightmare all the signs were misleading and the area to go to the gate was in a tiny hole away from where the signs were telling us in the middle of a shop
      If the flight wasn’t delayed we would’ve missed our flight on a 2 hour connection
      While Melbourne all the terminals are a 10 minute walk from one side to the other and the terminals are so easy to navigate
      Got there once 5 MINUTES before departure thankfully got let on the flight and was at the gate with 2 minutes to spare

    Yes, when I would fly to London, England to see family and friends and I would sit in Economy Class out of Newark, New Jersey on a 777-200 and 300s , I would always sit in front of Economy Class on A&B side all the time. Our flights were never full coming out of Newark so it is always nice to have those seats by myself... And yes coming from Chicago's O'Hare Airport I would find the United Red Carpet Lounge all the time...

    I’ve been watching these videos for a while, and it would appear that Qantas is the only premium economy to be a business minus class, where the other airlines do an economy plus version. Makes me feel incredibly lucky to have experienced it.

    More info - what were the seats like comfort wise? Was there noticeably more recline than economy? Did you get any or try to get any sleep? Are there overhead air vents? What was the IFE like? How were the flight staff? Was it possible to choose off menu meals before flying? What was the food and drink choice like? Did they have snacks available? Were bathrooms shared with economy or business or were there bathrooms just for premium economy? How good were the noise cancelling headphones? Did you use the blanket?
    If premium economy is double economy, is it worth the extra and why or why not?

    Aa couple of years ago I tried QANTAS after many years. I see the ground staff in Sydney have managed to hone their rudeness to a fine degree. Nothing subtle anymore just raw rudeness. I wrote to the complaints dept of this airline and received a half hearted apology. So whatever was experienced in Premium Economy was just academic interest as I will never use QANTAS in the future, By the way, I am Australian

    Awesome TR! Unfortunate you had a delay but it looks like you had a nice flight! The 787 is a really fantastic aircraft, I'd be curious to know what the delay was for. Hopefully I'll get to fly with QF someday. Also, if you have the time, I was wondering what tracks you used for the music in your last few videos, mainly SEA-SAN, YVR-SEA, and YUL-YVR. If you could update the descriptions of those videos with links to the music, that'd be awesome!

Anyway, I’ll try to update the descriptions with song titles if I can!

    Noticed you must have slept A LOT on this one.
    Did not see as much on flight or walk around.
    Qantas is one of my top 5/10 Airlines. (In no specific order). But I do choose business class for LONG FLIGHTS if I can get a good price.

    Although you didn't call this vid a review (and it wasn't) I wish you mentioned how the seats where when reclined. Did you have enough leg room to stretch all the way out or did the bulkhead get in the way? Would you have more room in the seat behind you?

    If the B787-9 can fly 15hrs, from the US to Australia, why did Qantas recently decide to purchase the A350 for its project 'Sunrise' flight to the US? That decision will not bring commonality of operations to the airline for sure. I guess it has more to do with fuel cost savings, nothing more than that...

    I've done those transpacific flights from LAX or SFO to Australia and New Zealand several times. To Australia, it's been on United in economy. I pick an aisle seat and just deal with it. I manage. Not too horrible. It's possible to get some sleep in economy if you try. I think Melbourne is a nicer city than Sydney. Sydney may have more to do, but how the CBD is near the Yarra River in Melbourne, with all the restaurants along the river walk, makes it nice.

    That premium economy seat looks better than most business class seats I've walked by on my way back to steerage. The 787 is a beautiful plane (flew EWR to LAX in early 2021) but my brain still can't accept that a flight to Australia is not on a 747 or A380. 😁

      It's because people arent making it right.
      You get a fresh loaf of preferably grain bread or rye toast it then put a generous portion of butter, let it melt into the toast then you scrape light amounts of the vegemite over your toast and then eat with any household tea it's the go to when you don't eat an eggs Benedict for breakfast

    Kind of shocked there's no amenity kit in premium economy. I like them for the container (often reusable) and the eye mask. Wow, you had to connect to Sydney?! Not fun.
    I haven't been on Qantas for years, before there were non-stops west coast to Australia. I used to spend the night in a Honolulu airport hotel, really helped with jet lag back in the 707 days. My first 747 flight was on Qantas, Sydney-Perth-Mauritius-Johannesburg in 1977. Such memories.

    I travelled dozens of time on the SYD - LAX or SYD - SFO route. Using a variety of carriers I have been in all 3 classes & I still follow the same rules - bring ear plugs, bring eye shades, bring a bottle of water onboard. I always take an aisle seat as I am over 6' 1" tall so the ease to access the aisle is important when in economy / business class. I travelled for holidays & then the Y2K projects so experienced a few carriers.
    For some reason the American travellers need to congregate around the toilets & shout out to each other, hence why I take the ear plugs & eye shades. Also that bottle of water I fill up at the airport is with me WHEN I want a drink & not when I am able to be served. Air NZ were excellent in all 3 classes but QANTAS is still my regular. Have yet to try United Airlines to the USA but have flown with them domestically.

    • @avesraggiana
      @avesraggiana 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don’t bother flying United Airlines, or even worse, American Airlines. Somehow, AA naturally managed to shoe horn a tenth seat in every row in Economy, for a cabin width designed originally for nine-abreast. It’s cramped back there, and passengers and flight attendants alike start behaving like crazed rats trapped in a maze. It’s deplorable. Flying a US flag carrier on routes to Australasia will be a real come down, after QANTAS, Virgin Australia , or Air New Zealand. US carriers really don’t have “it” anymore, and its inflight employees really don’t care.

    In late 2017, I flew QF in Premium Economy from LAX to BNE - that’s “Bris-bin,” to us yanks. I felt that the service level was exceptional. Further, we had the added treat of flying QF’s Boeing 747-400ER for what was probably one of the last times. The BNE - LAX route is now flown by a Boeing 787-9 or 787-10. QANTAS have always been great like that, and I’ve been flying them since the 70s when their fleet was made up largely of Boeing 707s and Boeing 747 - 200s. Wow, I’m old.

    Shame about the big delay and your missed connection. But as there are so many flights a day between Melbourne & Sydney, I am sure you were accomadated quickly.
    I remember flying domestic in Australia some years ago. It was one of my best experiences and so much different compared to domestic flying in Europe or the US. I hope there will be some reports on that from you :)
    Thanks again

  • @Farbar1955

    I'll be so glad when Qantas puts these premium economy seats in the A380 during the upgrades this year. We usually fly DFW-Sydney every other year and the current PE seats in those planes are almost ten years old and falling apart (still better than regular economy). These new seats look fantastic!
    FYI, while San Fran to Melbourne is a shorter flight than LAX-Melbourne that means you get fewer Qantas frequent flyer points.

    • @sanspotter
      @sanspotter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oooooh, good point about the...points (lol). I didn’t think about it since this was an award ticket, but it’s definitely something to keep in mind when paying for a seat with $$. 👍🏻

  • @mddah01
    @mddah01 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This is a 4 year old video and the PE seats on this plane have not aged well. I have just flown SFO to SYD in premium economy and the experience frankly was poor. The flight was on time, the cabin crew were good and and food was OK. But the seats were not fine. Some of the seats have become difficult to recline and the stupid foot rests are worn, hang down and intrude on the footwells. It feels cramped and its difficult to achieve a good sleeping position - which is the whole point on these seats. Interestingly, getting into an exit rows on a Qantas 737 connecting flight straight afterwards felt more spacious. OK so I am having a whinge, but wait for it. Qantas are selling PE seats between SFO and SYD for $7686 return. Honestly, pick an exit row in economy, preferably on United on this route, and save a lot of money.

    Another great and witty report. Why do long-haul airlines have chicken sausage in their breakfast offering. They are disgusting. We can cope with the spongy scrambled eggs and rubber mushrooms, but why chicken sausage? We've learned our lesson and now opt for anything other than that except congee.
