Hank Pym secretly hates himself. It's only human. But a droid based on your personality? It will also hate Hank Pym. Vision as created by Ultron was one more step removed and so lacked a hatred of humans. Vision is what Hank had dreamed of making all along, a hero!
It's great working digital! Being able to flip the image so we can work easier as right or left handed artists is next level! Definitely speeds up the process. This concept for Vision is perfection
As an aspiring artist hearing that you a professional who has worked on some major ips, still has proportion issues is kind of inspiring. Honestly hearing that you still get feedback really humanises the craft and I know it was an offhand comment in the video but hearing something like that was really refreshing to hear :)
I hope that's something that comes through in a number of my videos. I'm a huge believer in being humble and getting feedback - it almost always makes our work better! Thanks for the comment Baked, looking forward to you seeing the next one!
Some much deserved love in these comments. As critically as I can be: the video is so well done. The editing was great, music was great, sound was great, the imagery choices and watching your timeline of the Vision was great. Your narration was well written and super interesting. I could seriously watch you break down a creature/characters backstory for hours. Loved it, you did great!! Glad to hear Mr Matt Murdock was up next!
Just had to tell you I bought your book and it's incredible. I am more of a fan of the mythology behind Marvel than I am the comics themselves, but the way you illustrate them makes them seem real. You are very talented and I very much enjoy your work. Thank you!
I watched this series backwards, Daredevil first and now Vision, and I can already see growth in the series. Really digging this new short-form stuff Jonah is doing. Great insights on not just art, but that notes about about the slight smirk on Paul Bettany... how did I miss that?!
@@JonahLobeDraws I'd really love for you to tackle the anatomy of Blue Beetle. I find his character design fascinating, the Scarab bound to his spine, augmented weapons.
Loving these videos! I bought the book and these videos give even more life to your expressive artwork/story telling! Thank you so much (and thank you for being light years ahead of the DC version of your book).
Thank you so much Drew! I really enjoyed the process of illustrating this book AND the process of creating these videos, so I appreciate all the kind words. Thanks for subscribing and I hope you enjoy the rest of the series, as well as the up-coming looks at my own first comic, Quiet: Level One, which will be on Kickstarter in a few months. Take care brother!
We must've been on the same wavelength or something, because I made a piece around this same time with a character partially disassembled because I'd never seen anything quite like that. Whoch is even crazier because the art in this book served as some inspiration. This is some gnarly artwork, brother 💪
Thank you Luiz!! I appreciate you watching, and even that feedback is helpful. Means I am doing something right! Thank you as ever for watching, stay tuned for the next one…
Hi Kyle! More or less, yeah. The publisher, Insight Editions, is happy with me sharing as much as I want, since it basically just helps in sales. I'd love to make so many more of these videos, but unless I can secure more backup on Patreon, it's unlikely I'll be able to do so...
Not only is this a Marvel project, but if Vision was created by an AI, you'd have to assume that the AI would have a pretty interesting color scheme on it. It would use the green and yellow to comfort a human, the red face to intimidate.
Hey Jonah! Great work man! Been keeping up with you on instagram for a while and it’s awesome to watch your work come to life! I am curious though I was wondering if you will ever do a Q&A video? I am curious how you got your start? Being a fellow illustrator I have accidentally fallen into the graphic design world as it is now my 9-5 with a few “cutesy” illustrations being put on my to-do list for the work day at the agency I work for. I am currently working on my own comic to bring to SDCC this summer in hopes to pick up a gig or two in the world of drawing muscular people and more awesome type artwork. I am just curious is making a comic the best way for an illustrator to get their work noticed? Thanks again for this video! I agree when tetsuyo transformed it really did change the way I look at art and the world around me!
That is great feedback Monky thank you. I don’t know as much about illustration as I should, as I have only made the transition in the last few years. I think comics can be a pretty good way to start, but I know that it is not a particularly lucrative career, and there is a lot of competition. So it is good that you have a regular job! I think going to comic con is a good way to start getting traction, although unfortunately, if your art is not incredible off the bat, it can be hard to get started as a relative unknown. don’t let that discourage you! Simply putting in the work, getting the practice, and building out your portfolio, will make you ever more attractive to potential employers. If you were looking to get a job working from Marvel or someone, I would definitely start putting together your portfolio, getting your best work together, and start applying and networking! And SDCC should be especially helpful for the latter. But you have to be deliberate about it. Anyway, I would love to do a Q and a stream soon… That seems really easy to put together, and it could be very helpful! Thank you so much for this question, you have got me thinking…
I LOVE THIS ! I would have made the muscles a different color to look more artificial like and tendons more bulker like they are mechanically fit together And nerves look more like wires or electrical conduants And bones like a hard carbon fiber like material , with bulker joints But that's the awesome thing about vison, he a machine but he chooses to be more human But thats what I would have done but I LOVE IT REGARDLESSLY
You might be right, it might have been more fun to change the colors more dramatically. This was a fun one to design, but I also did him pretty early in the project and so I was a bit rusty...
His face is mission something. Like a scare or maybe we can see into his brain. As you said he is breaking himself abart, then why is the head still intakted?
That’s interesting. I didn’t want to blow him completely apart because I wanted to preserve the integrity of his hero-ness, but now that you’re saying that, I wish I’d pulled it apart a little, like Ghost in the Shell…
I wonder what AI will do, when it reaches every limitation of it's ability to learn and processing power because of the constraining resources of it's own finite consciousness.
@@JonahLobeDraws he’s now an art teacher in Wisconsin I believe ( it’s been awhile) but you’re stye and his are very similar- he did a lot of covers for the- Marvel Superheroes Roll playing game- later he was doing Green Hornet and invented the character BADGER. IDK maybe drop him a friendly artist inquiry. He’d really get a kick out of it.
