Hello there, I know this is 5 years old but I just ordered the 207 for my 29 gallon planted community tank ( 6 corry cats, 5 Rasboras, 2 Guaramis, 3 Amano shrimp) It will be replacing a old Fluval C3. Thank you for this set up video! I had eheims back in the day (20 years ago) which was the best in my opinion when I had 3 55 gallon tanks (African Cichlids) . Fluval I think is tops now!! The 07 series really looks like they take the cake!!

Fluval have done a good job of addressing the small niggles from the '06 series and the '07 series is an easy recommend for anyone wanting a good filter which will last for many years.
I've done a video on a 207 a couple of weeks ago but haven't had a chance to edit it yet - when it goes up I'll link to your video as you go into more detail about the improvements than I do.
The one area I'm really disappointed is the quality of that ceramic tube media - crack a piece open and you will see what I mean. The internal structure is simply bubbles sealed into hard media made from ceramic dust and I'm not sure if that is the new version of the media they will be using in all their filters but it is a huge step backwards from the media I've found in the FX range previously.
Something which is really nice to see is that the fine pad was in the bottom tray over their medium foam and there is a bumpy foam in the cartridge so it looks like companies are finally coming round to the need for greater contact area for dirt to settle out in foams and the importance of having the fine pad in the correct place to prevent media clogging. Maybe one day the 'big' aquatic channels on TH-cam will come to that realization or even consider that it makes a hell of a difference what type of media is used in a filter but I doubt it....
I'll send you some stuff down to set it up but I understand if you can't make a video on that set up with biohome ultimate as Fluval probably wouldn't be too chuffed - I don't have that problem as I'm already seen as the aquatic conspiracy guy by so many companies, lol
Fluval are a really good company as they are addressing issues with previous versions of their filters and improving them for the better operation, maintenance, quality of construction and over all user experience for their products which is a stark contrast to Eheim who have gone the route of making things more fiddly and more cheaply manufactured while charging a huge premium for the 'improvements'. I know for sure which I would recommend to someone wanting a good quality filter which will last for many years so the '07 range should give Fluval a huge jump on their competition.
I've seen comments on other videos where people have complained that the changes are just cosmetic and don't solve any problems but that couldn't be further from the truth - they've done a great job (apart from the type / amount of media supplied) with this range of filters and they could do a similarly good job with the FX filters.
I have plans drawn out for a simple change for the FX6 which could potentially increase the media capacity from 5kg to nearer 10kg while still maintaining 2/3 of the outer mechanical filtration so I may be in contact to ask if you can cut some stuff for me on the laser cutter after I put the video out on that one showing / explaining what I have in mind.
Keep on keepin' on and keep on making the helpful videos, man.

      @markneedham2287 5 ปีที่แล้ว

I think they only add a reduced quality bio media because they want you to spend more money on the premium media as shown on the rear of the 207s box.
When I buy my 307 later ill be upgrading to either the eheim, sera , seachem or might even look at the bio home bio media. Either way I will be binning these rings for sure.

Nice to see that you prefilter that 207. I see so many people that don't prefilter these kinds of filters and and winder why their nano fish and or shrimp start to disappear over time.

Great video! Set up Fluval 207 yesterday evening as per the manual and another instructional TH-cam video. The 207 is my first ever use of an external canister filter as I embark on my journey into freshwater tropical aquariums. Since setup yesterday evening I've noticed the canister is emitting a constant low pitched humming which is audible from other rooms, enough to be slightly annoying. I understand this external cannister filters are supposed to be virtually silent filters. I looked up possible causes online and thought may it had some air in there as there was a lot of new bubbles made and present throughout the glass walls and all over gravel, decor and internal equipment, from when initially setting up the aquarium putting in some gravel and decor and when pouring in water. I thought maybe a lot of air in the canister after that. I've tried tilting it many times at an angle which does bring out some bubbles from the output after a slight fizzing of bubbles heard. Also tried to manually pump with the self priming pump a bit. However, there is still the ongoing hum. I am sure all the medial and baskets were assembled correctly, etc. Any suggestions would be great please as was looking for an almost silent filter! Thanks.

Been researching this extermal filter for some time now and it ticks all the boxes I need. I only have a 60 LTR tank which I plan to replace at some point but according to my LFS this external filter would not need to be maintained as frequently as internal filters which saves quite a bit of money (and time!), and cycles the tank much much better. I wonder if this filter would help me much in my fight against algae, amonia etc?

Professor Aquaria I find people tend to give Fluval a free pass. It isn’t ‘free media’, it’s hardly enough media for the job. I don’t think any other company could get away with selling such an expensive canister filter filled almost entirely with sponge

Daniel Andersson Daniel Andersson similar Eheim and Aquaeon products come with a tonne of media. My Ecco 2234 came with 2L of media, plus sponge. My Fluval 107 came with no media whatsoever other then sponge. My 407 came with enough media to fit inside a 1Cup measuring cup.
Not to mention if you look up the Fluval ‘maintenance’ video, you’re expected to replace almost all the removable parts within a year. They need to include more with their products, or cut the price in half.

    Hi Mark.
Only recently got back into the hobby after 30 years, really can't understand why I was away for so long.
I've almost watched your entire log of back dated videos, what an inspiration.
I'm wondering if you or any of your viewers could help me with a problem I'm having with the water in my tank.
I have a 180l tank with a total of 26 fish, 11 tetras, 10 danios, 3 small catfish and 2 German rams. I should point out that I purchased the tank of someone. They kept the tank with the 3 catfish and just 2 of the tetras, there was no heater or filter, hence the reason why I took the tank and fish away from them.
I've done a lot to the tank since I've had it, purchased heater, filter and plants. The tank was also full of large rocks which the guy told me he had got from the local river.
I've replaced half the rocks with a nice piece of driftwood but there are still a lot of the original rocks in the tank.
So the problem I'm having is with my ph, it's 8.2 and I just don't know how to Lower it without using chemicals. I've been doing a 30% water change every two weeks and even though I've added the driftwood my ph remains at 8.2
When doing my water change it's 50/50 RO/DI and tap water.
Do you have any suggestions how I can get it lower and do you think the remaining rocks might be the reason it's staying high?
    Hope you can hep.
    Ray.

    • @lilynorthover8378
      @lilynorthover8378 5 ปีที่แล้ว

What Ph is your tap water? A lot of rocks do raise Ph so may be that. Alder cones, catappa leaves and such will lower Ph. Some wood will, check google.

Thanks Mark. I just bought a Aqua One Nautilus 1400, which can do 1400 liters per hour but you can have just a slow trickle. Full it would blow the fish out the water! But you can adjust flow. Now it can take 4-6 weeks to build up beneficial bacteria. Even with seeded media, I feel its best for people to run their old filter, while waiting. However I have noticed community fish like neons, rainbows, yellow clouds all changed their behavior for the better. All fish are happier and the extra flow helps the plants and oxygen is much better. My set up cost $200 au dollars or about 108 British pounds but has a 3 year warranty. Good part is you can easily put it on a tank that needs a good clean. Cheers Mark

We have an Oase Bio-master 250 canister filter, which is great to operate with a first stage pre-filter than can be removed and cleaned in 10 minutes with no mess. BUT we have found that the filter sponges for the equipment are in my opinion very expensive - with 4 rings of filter foam for the first stage selling for over £18.00 in Maidenhead Aquatics, and I am sure as expensive in other stores too as I have seen them on eBay for a similar price. Tidy video Mark. Made my mind up whether I was going to Cardiff later on and either saving a few pounds and getter the older 306 or this newer 307 range.
    307 it is.

    2 things I still don't like.
First, there is still a lot of bypass at the top of the filter because the only thing stopping intake water from going straight to the output is a piece of white foam in the vertical foam tray, nothing solid to actually seal it off.
This allows for a lot of gunk to get to your baskets.
    You show this at 18:25
Second, they still use the ribbed hosing. In my opinion it's ugly and I think it's only done to prevent people from easily buying cheaper replacement parts elsewhere.

    Hi Mark !
I have old model 206, it is great filter but things to watch out are
    1.
when priming after servicing/cleaning foam inside lot of scum comes out from the hose I recommend to change those for smooth ones as it is impossible to scrub them inside with the long brush
    2.
the intake in the tank when keeping shrimp and plecos MUST b wrapped with fine mesh because fry love to get in and it takes time to fish them out
Other than that very happy with it works great no problems with it in 2 years so far
    Matt

You should prefilter your pumps just like Mark did. It prevents your babies, shrimp, and smaller nano fish from getting sucked up as well as extends the life of the pump and it will need less changes and cleaning. With pumps like this it's best if you don't open it all the time to clean it and using a prefilter helps with that.

@@seangere9698 you should make a great video and Happy it's so true that interrupted cannister filters or Biological bacteria filters in general are not going to be as beneficial for the majority of people that are in the hobby. If it's not pre-filtered or the basket / trays not set up properly is the only reason or reasons why it would have to be messed with. EHEIM pre-filter I know sure has been a great way to keep my tanks crystal clear from my * experience !!! Mark end of this video vacation and it is a great time for you to create your new content 🏞☘️🌱🍀💚💙

I had the pro 2 2028. Awful. Frequent leaks, in the end I don't know from where. Neither did the dealer, who just said to toss it. (Maybe 2 years). The auto prime stopped working after a few months. And a pain to clean and maintain. JBL Cristalprofi or this filter--from personal experience is the way to go. This filter is the easiest to clean.
