I love this. 100% agree. That's why I've been obsessing with Phil Rudd for the past weeks and trying to learn from his drumming as much as possible. It's all about that punch and playing to the music.
I have his book "Extreme Metal Drumming"- a very good inspirational and practice resource. Though I wish there were more learning tools for drummers on how to achieve a modern metal sound recording an acoustic set (minimal samples)
