@@EXHellfire Well, Marco and Hannes have the excuse that English isn't their first language. Thomas Lang and Jojo Mayer also say it a lot. The funny thing is that they all speak German. XD
Too few drummers understand that speed is nothing without dynamic control; the point he makes about weak blasts shows that Hannes fully appreciates this. His blast is probably the most consistently powerful that I've ever heard.
"So I guess alot of you guys already use some kind of fingers, while they are blasting, but actually not, I guess not ... to the extreme like I do" - Hannes Grossmann 2010. So hilarious :D
after watching this i realized i switch to this technique if i get a little tired blasting at 240+. it is quite efficient of a technique. Another good way to train fingers I've found is to change which finger is the fulcrum. So only use thumb to index, then only thumb to middle, thumb to ring etc. It really gets you strong but also makes sure you can control the stick. Good video!
just came back from practising it on aroung 220 bpm. i was used to play only with fingers, together with wrist and a bit of moeller its so much more punch and endurance. thx hannes!!!
Yeah, Du denkst genau das gleiche über Technik wie ich! Das Nervt immer, wenn die Leute die ihr Instrument nicht beherrschen einem etwas über Feeling erzählen wollen... Super. Ich mag Dein Spiel!
3:10 - goddamn look at how high his stick gets from the snare !! Does anyone else feel like him speeking eglish sound painful? lol he just sounds like he's struggling every word :p
It might be just a matter of taste but I actually prefer blast beats where the snare drum is less strong than in a skank beat (f.e.) of the same song. I don't like the blast beat he plays at the very end that much because in my opinion he puts the snare drum too much forward - I don't want to critisize him, as said it's a matter of pure taste. His technique is still very useful in my opinion and I think it's also quite unique - great drummer!
"No homo", but it's kind of adoreable the way he speaks. Like he is some nice little kid that is trying to show his parents something. A little kid that fucking slays.
ah... didnt actually realise i've always used the hybrid technique for blastbeats until now. It actually works really well I can get around 240 bpm. guess all there is to do now is to strengthen my fingers and that so I can enhance the technique
I use this technique most of the time when I'm blasting. The wrists provide the power and the fingers are the icing on the cake. I feel like myself and a lot of drummers think it's bs that Mueller technique is named after anyone. I figured that out early in my playing simply just by playing. It's push pull.. Just a side note.
the moeller technique is a little more than that. you could actually read the fucking book by stanford moeller and find out why instead of criticizing out of ignorance.
I met him back in 2009 is a silent but nice guy, when he was with necrophagist I ask him to teach me how to do that kind of blastbeat, he kind refused maybe because he wanted anyone to know it but there it is in you tube for everyone
Meanwhile (in drummer heaven) Buddy Rich still exclaims: "You're not playing traditional grip - you're not a real drummer!" *Vinnie Paul throws a drum stick at Buddy*
that comeback was the best thing ever. i read it over 2 hours and i'm still laughing when i remember.. really creepy, killing a girl by clytoris stimulation and telling her "there's no contradiction between feeling and technique".. hillarious
I had the pleasure of meeting him before a show, all of Obscura are really nice guys. The singer has the kind of personality where it seems like you're talking to an old friend that you haven't seen in a while. Hannes also talks exactly like this in person.
The snare on the first "quiet" blast is still louder than most high speed metal drummers can do it. ;)
Hannes went to the Virgin Islands once.
Now their just called the Islands.
women arent funny
best comment ever!
- You know, regular Slayer beat. (like a boss)
"You know."
-Hannes Grossmann, 2010
tru
Marco Minnemann, Tomas Haake, Matt Garstka, all say "you know" a lot
it's a conversational drum fill
@@EXHellfire Well, Marco and Hannes have the excuse that English isn't their first language. Thomas Lang and Jojo Mayer also say it a lot. The funny thing is that they all speak German. XD

Hey there Sick Drummers, Hannes Grossman here and today we're going to learn how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
ill watch it
I love how he blasts, looks at the camera, and smiles.
well, tell you what, i also would have that stupid smile on my face if i could blast like that
That smile at 2:37 ...priceless
Hahaha
Very germanic smile...
Hannes has got to be one of the best modern drummers
Ah Germans...always pursue efficiency..even when they play drums.
Probably he does not live in berlin :)
@@herodesh haha true.
Germany has more than just Berlin
fast brutal technical drummer with smooth voice. he's the MAN!
2:58, that's what he was searching for.
Giggity
"...rock-hard magazine..." Love this guy
This is one of the best videos on TH-cam
"So I guess alot of you guys already use some kind of fingers, while they are blasting, but actually not, I guess not ... to the extreme like I do" - Hannes Grossmann 2010. So hilarious :D
If you were to judge this guy off of his voice without knowing him, you'd probably never think he was a death metal drummer. He's an amazing drummer.
I mean
Most Death Metal musicians are the nicest people outside of the songs
"climax, that's what i was searching for"
that's what she said
What a humble person the world's best tech death metal drummer and composer is!
4:29 Mind official blown. Goodnight!

good technique, good explainations.. polite man.
I use finger technique with german grip
very humble, very inspirational. great drummer.
Holy SHIT!!
That increase in volume and power 😮😮
Hannes Großmann = Inbegriff der deutschen Effizienz, aufs Schlagzeug angewendet :D
This is one of the best lessons about blasting on youtube, no shit.
Yeah, Du denkst genau das gleiche über Technik wie ich! Das Nervt immer, wenn die Leute die ihr Instrument nicht beherrschen einem etwas über Feeling erzählen wollen... Super. Ich mag Dein Spiel!
Highest Stick Height Ever.
Go look at Joey Jordison doing blast beats
i love the sound of his snare drum
@fernando25baltazar Yes Indeed! Hannes is the man and seriously one of the coolest dudes out there!
6:07 focus on his face.
:( :) :(
Hahahah I only just spotted it
sexy voice and macho drumming!
Jajajajajaja
I've always considered him to have the most brilliant blast beat patterns. He's just so unorthodox.
I find his voice very relaxing for some reason. XD
@zmanbrody he means that the snare hits are louder in the first "slayer" beat than in the blast beat
This is a lesson I never forget. :)
that's absolutely SICK rebound man :)
definitly going to experiment with this
I'm not really into blasts, but between his power and his snare sound, his ones sound fuckin' A!
ive never seen this before and it seems i developed this technique over time
Awesome! Actually he told me about that one-finger fingertechnique, it's pretty sick!
3:10 - goddamn look at how high his stick gets from the snare !!
Does anyone else feel like him speeking eglish sound painful? lol he just sounds like he's struggling every word :p

He talks so...... peaceful..... He must be some beast on drums, The quiet ones are always the loudest xD!
nice man, I enjoy this hybrid motion.
"not to the extreme, like I DO!" hate you =(
such an amazing drummer! this video owns! thanks sick drummer!
"its kind of like punching a basketball"
fucking metal
the first blast was stilll amazingly smooth lol
my god, this is genius, I'm taking this on board!
algorithm telling me something
I love that his "exaggerated" weak blast beat is pretty much how tons of drummers play blasts normally.
My 2nd favorite drummer.
I love people who know what they are talking about!
Me too
@NeveGialla161 120 is the same thin than 240. He just use a smaller division ( or play it twice faster if you prefer ^^ )
'you know..' haha, what a sick little man. and technique, technique, technique.
Lol I bet they're awesome. I haven't really heard Obscura that much, but I've heard Blotted Science. I'll have to check em out soon.
"No homo", but it's kind of adoreable the way he speaks. Like he is some nice little kid that is trying to show his parents something. A little kid that fucking slays.
Dude makes it look easy.
@SumFallGrace Same, it still sounds awesome.
ah... didnt actually realise i've always used the hybrid technique for blastbeats until now. It actually works really well I can get around 240 bpm. guess all there is to do now is to strengthen my fingers and that so I can enhance the technique
Gosssshhhh he sounds so good !!!!
My most favorite album by Death are either Human or The Sound Of Perseverance.
I use this technique most of the time when I'm blasting. The wrists provide the power and the fingers are the icing on the cake.

Eg-Fucking-xactly.

Bravissimo from France, bro !
this guy is really soft spoken
This guy is gonna get much better than Kollias, his blast beats are not so fast but much more powerful!
this dude is so polite & proper LoL
I know right !
@Yisida Another day in Paradise ;)
He's so fucking funny. His voice is so disarming haha
Very nice !
2:39 Smile that means: ''I can go that fast, you can't''
he seems so damn nice...he could tell my grandma dead baby jokes, and she'd probably be okay with it.
Cool tips
" You Know "
Get in line bud. You're not the only one.
I've been using this technique for awhile and I didn't know it even existed..
Haha, this is something I started doing without realizing it. Made my left hand MUCH faster.
where is he from? he has a distinctive accent.
he has the most beautiful blasts....holy shit
hey, what about fingers strengthening with traditional grip?
I met him back in 2009 is a silent but nice guy, when he was with necrophagist I ask him to teach me how to do that kind of blastbeat, he kind refused maybe because he wanted anyone to know it but there it is in you tube for everyone

Buddy Rich was a clown.
thats a jojo nayer technique!!!! very well done
hahahahaha man that intro is the best ever.
Its Toki Wartooth on drums!
Sitting here on the couch, doing the hybrid wavething. Yep, works, probably be doing 250 tomorrow =P
His voice, his English jajaja
@doublebassrox he was. their new one is sick too Romain Goulon
Nice drum.
7:46 "not to the extreme like I do." hahaha
cool technique
he's a fucking monster.
So wait, Hannes... With your analogy of the hybrid as it associates to the automobile, which part of the stroke is gas and which part is electric?
that comeback was the best thing ever. i read it over 2 hours and i'm still laughing when i remember.. really creepy, killing a girl by clytoris stimulation and telling her "there's no contradiction between feeling and technique".. hillarious
*huge snare blasts!!!!!*........You know something like that.....
EPIC "hey sick drummers whats up" XD
"That's what I was searching for... the climax"
7:19 I totally got mind fucked. I was wondering if the audio cut out for a second there.
