    We love a game of ‘would you rather?’ here at Electrifying.com. In our latest head-to-head, we’re pitching two of the biggest-selling compact electric cars on the market: the Volkswagen ID.3 and the new Kia Niro EV.
    Although one is a traditional hatchback and the other is an SUV, they are two brilliant electric cars that cost almost exactly the same, whether you choose buy outright or opt for a PCP or lease. Both seat five, have a hatchback and offer the kind of useful day-to-day stuff that should take care of the usual grind of family life. And yet one is a bespoke electric car, with all the advantages that brings, and the other is a recently-refreshed version of an old favourite that also comes in hybrid flavours.

    As an e-Niro owner since 2019 it is no surprise to me that the new Niro won...biased of course..😊 What the hell were VW doing when they launched the ID3?...They have decades of experience of making the best hatchbacks in the world, the Golf has a first class quality interior which is really well built...so why couldn’t they just do the same with the ID3?..and not launch it with working software was a huge mistake, a massive loss of reputation. Hyundai/Kia are delivering some great designs and build quality that is showing VW and many others the way.

      The golf HAD a first class interior, VW have dropped the ball with all of their cars. They're now outclassed by most of their competitors.

      Is loud as hell, im not talking outside but inside.
      Every one i know who tried it and who is honest knows that. Most noisy car i ever driven.

      @@peternystrom921 Are you talking about the e-Niro or the Niro (hybrid)? We had a Prius hybrid before this car and before that a Toyota Avensis (petrol). Previous cars have been BMW 5 series (6 cly diesel)...I can safely say that cruising on the autoroute at 120 kph is quieter in the e-Niro than in any of those cars. A quiet conversation is easy at that speed. The motor makes hardly any noise and wind noise is no worse than any of the aforementioned cars. The road noise was the biggest thing and the stock tyres (Michelin Primacy) were noisier than my current Hankook tyres which have silencing foam in them...After 66,000 km and some long road trips I can say that noise simply isn’t a problem...sure, other EVs may be even quieter but all ICE drivers comment on how quiet the e-NIro is.

    As someone who currently owns an ID3 and am getting a new Niro EV in September I’d say this was a pretty fair review. The ID3 is very well hardware engineered and very quiet and responsive. The software has improved but is still slow to start up with the odd bug. The lag issue is vastly exaggerated. Software updates remain a big problem. Clearly VW still have serious organisational issues.
    The Niro EV is a good quality all round product. A solid family EV. Nothing annoying.

    The Niro also has another advantage, you can put roof bars on it to carry bicycles etc. You cannot put roof bars on the ID3

    I’ve recently took delivery of a new Hyundai Kona Electric premium 64kwh.
    I absolutely love it, it’s not too out there as a first electric car but has all the performance, range and gadgets you could wish for. On its first charge it did 292 miles with mixed driving using aircon and different performance modes as and when I wanted. 200bhp and 300lbft isn’t to be sniffed at either, I’ve won so many traffic light drag races.
    Charging to full cost £16.

      I’ve had my 40 kwh leaf for about a year now , it’s sooooo easy to live with and ridiculously cheap to run .

      Actually I’ll tell you my only complaint about it, you can’t permanently turn off the lane assist. It turns back on every time you start the car. It’s great on the motorway when working with steer assist and cruise control but around the doors it picks up the white line too quickly.

      @@WittyPrintCompany too true line assist resetting it's self each time is a real pain keep telling myself I'll get into the hang off remembering to turn it off as soon as I start the car but time will tell 😉

    We did a test drive in the ID.3 back in December. As a former VW Golf owner I found the ID.3 a huge disappointment. The interior is very cheap and nasty. No where near the quality of our old Golf. As for the infotainment system, what a joke. VW should never have released it on the market with software that is so buggy. We also drove the old Kia e-Niro and EV6. Both are far superior in terms of interior build quality and software functionality. The Skoda Enyaq is also a better car. I'm afraid VW have definitely dropped the ball as others have said. My guess is they rushed out the ID models to cover the stench of Dieselgate.

      I think VW kinda' intentionally made it this way... like with such disrespect to this product that it would never be on anyone's liking.... until they felt the taste of money when orders were piling up, as the former VAG owners were into trying these vehicles, which would rule out of the equation any sort of emission-cheating devices. And I'm not sure about the later... who knows where VAG would go as to unlock a whole new level or setting a whole new meaning for emissions-cheating?

    The ID3 is very tinny, and desperately needs a new interior…..one that works and reflects the VW reputation for quality. All of its rivals have either caught up, or surpassed them.

    Tried ID.3 built 07/2022 and I can confirm that latest ID software 3.0 fixed most issues. Also, buttons below touch screen (parking, clima, assists, mode) are now illuminated.

    I have an ID3 with 3.0 software and I'm 3500 miles in. The updated software seems to have addressed most concerns and is nowhere near as bad as all the reviewers go on about. It seems they watch each other and copy the same comments. I'd say this is the best infotainment system I've had so far. Is it the best - no - but it's really ok once you know where things are - most of which you'll rarely use. Volume controls are on the steering wheel as well as the touch slider - which is fine IMO. You can also change the temperature by touching the - always displayed - temp on screen, just like in a Tesla and no-one criticises that. The temp slide controls are easy to find without looking even in the dark - but just use the screen if its easier - there is a choice. The only real issue I have with the touch controls is that its too easy to brush the steering wheel buttons with your thumb, thereby jumping radio stations or podcasts which IS annoying. Navigation is OK, but doesn't recognise all addresses, nor provide the congestion data like Google Maps or Waze. Thus just use those on CarPlay. The car is excellent, really happy I got this and I'm getting 4.8miles per kW efficiency. The Niro's nice too, but bigger and we were looking for smaller. 2 Cocker Spaniels will fit in the boot and without the dogs, I can still throw two MTB's in the back with the seats down and front wheels off. It's much nicer than the Golf's I've had.

    That was a very entertaining head-to-head comparison test, guys - and really useful to prospective buyers 👍
    As for other comparisons...?
    I think pitting the face-lifted MG5 Estate against its sister car the MG ZS EV would be useful - if only to finally show all those 'sheep' buying SUVs that a suitably sized estate car is just as practical, yet MUCH more satisfying to drive...!! 😉

    It does feel like VW dropped the ball with the ID3. The New Mégane, Niro and MG4 (based on MG4 prototype drives/the price) seem to really highlight that

      I tried driving the new Megane and I adored the interior as well as software experience - Android Automative with good processing power is where it's at.

      The Megane has a nice cockpit with big screens and all Android OS, but its aerodynamics and motor efficiency is very poor. Its costs around the same as the Niro but has at least 50km less range. The MG4 is supposed to have no one-pedal-driving and an unstable software when it comes to remaining stable in the lane. I don't like the MG4s interiour while I think it has the best looking exteriour of the above mentioned cars. But tht is just my personal visual preference and I would not buy a car from a country that is non democratic, beats up protesters/any critics and puts them into prisons as well as exployting its own people to the max.
      I am German and if you want quality cars with warranty for a good price, look for new South-Koreans (Kia/Hyundai/Genesis) and of course the always brilliant Japanese (Lexus/Toyota/Subaru/Nissan/Mazda). Japan will realease EVs next year and I am sure they will be good quality.

    Ordered my ID3 in June, build date is November 21st, ETA December (hoping before Christmas) and it was significantly below £350 a month on lease. It will come with V3 firmware which fixes the issues. Would be interesting to know whiich version the car tested was on, V2.4 dealers are installing now which then enables OTA updates to V3.

    I seen a Niro for the 1st time today with the side blade to match and ot looked really good. The ID3 looks good on the outside, however inside and infotainment VW have performed really poorly, they wanted this to be the new electric golf for everyone but no, just isn't good enough. They currently seem to have sold well, despite its flaws. I think it may be die hard VW fans or people that think they are buying quality with out even checking what other brands have to offer. So many companies doing EV's now and most are doing them better then VW.

    The only thing that makes me mad is the Kia Niro DC charging speed… I do not understand what was Kia thinking… they should have increased the charging speed to, at least, 100 kw/peak… I mean, if this new kia would have the same charging speed and charging curve as the one available on the Mercedes EQA or EQB, it would be unstoppable… I have a Kia E.Niro 2020 and the thing that makes me regret buying it is the charging curve and speed. I do a lot of long trips with the need of charging. I have done some of the same trips with the Mercedes EQA (which is not as efficient) to test it and, in a 600 kms trip, I was able to be 30 minutes faster, just because of the charging speed. So now that I’m about to change the car, I was expecting Kia to improve the charging speed. Because Kia didn’t do much about it (come on, we can’t say that saving 5 minutes with the new curving speed is doing something about it), I will buy another car from the competition.

      Maybe it was battery protection. If you look at the longevity of the original Ioniq electric it pretty much wipes the floor with anything else. I’m hoping this is the same with the eNiro

    You probably won't think this flies but I'd like to see a comparison between the MGZS Trophy Short Range (for the LFP battery) and the Hyundai Ioniq 38kWh.
    Just had the poor old Skoda Roomster written off and needed a used ev quicky so found a beautiful blue Ioniq 38kWh at a reasonable price. Really wanted the 28kWh but could only find the new one and it'll probably sell better. Just love them for their efficiency and they have so much kit as standard. However they are quite impractical for us the large dog, my e-bike and a suitcase. What we really need is the MGZS, SR because we can't charge at home but live spontaneously, have an aged relative we need to be prepared to drive to and then take to hospital visits. The LFP battery can be charged to full and left a while without damage to it so would be ideal to be constantly prepared for emergencies.
    We shall enjoy the Hyundai for a couple of years until the MG is available secondhand at a hopefully more affordable price. 🤞
    Enjoy these comparisons and realise that this proposition...well, it isn't really is it?! 🤪 Might be fun though if you get bored at all?...🤔😅😁

    To reflect on some comments on ID.3 with SW 3.0, there are still some minor bugs to be expected - customizing widgets on home screen is a challenge, map in navigation is not shown (happened once), cabin temperature digits disappear (happened once). But these bugs are extremely rare. What always helps is a reboot of system which CAN be done while driving - keep power pressed for 10 seconds.
    And two benefits where ID.3 is unique compared to other EVs and they are never mentioned in reviews:
    ID.3 can be towed as long as 12V battery works and you can select neutral gear (respecting 50/50 rule - max. 50 km and max. 50 kph - I guess it will be 30/30 rule in miles).
    Being RWD and EV only, ID.3 (Cupra Born) is the only car which has mastered the formula small outside, large inside. Other small EVs are FWD, having to be ~20 cm longer for the same cabin space.
    As a disclaimer I now own an ID.3 as a city car and I was also considering Niro HEV as a second family car for longer journeys. I was disappointed, as a 15 cm longer car I was expecting it to be more spacious then the ID.3, not the opposite. Size matters.

    I’ve heard so many gripes about the infotainment system, the temperature/volume bar that doesn’t light up etc etc, but you’re forgetting that the car has voice command!! Hello ID, turn the temperature/volume up please! Job done!!!

    Ginny us absolutely spot-on re the contrasting "aero" panel on the Niro. It seems to be trying to recreated the look of a neglected banger with a mismatched wing! It looks so much better with this in body colour. I can see this "upgrade" being quietly deleted before too long.

    As a driver of the outgoing NiroEV (with Heat Pump) I can share the real world efficiency. At 70 mph/motorway in summer = 4.2miles/kwh, winter = 3.2miles/kwh. This represents a range of 285miles summer, 225 miles winter. Around town in summer it will go up to 5-6 miles/kWh (I’ve seen over 320 miles on the range/GOM). Winter that would drop to 4-5 miles/KWh. Positives are - stereo, seats, engagement to drive, regen available even at 100%, negatives are fidgety ride and perhaps the charging speed could be improved. Not sure what went through VW’s mind when it released the ID3 - it was actually the car I fancied until I saw many reviews slating the infotainment system, plus the cheap interior.

    ID3 seats feel like those foam seats on Renaults from the 1980s. Material on the doors and arm rests feels really cheap. Infotainment is meh. Just not a great car at all. I test drove the niro ev today and absolutely loved it

    Agree on the id3; love the drive of mine but everything else is woeful. Been to the Megane launch today, looks OK but at £7000 more for the top-spec upcoming MG4 I think I know where our (which we have made on the id3) money is going...

    We’ve had our NiroEV GT line for approx 16 months and love it, its compact but roomy size, not too big, not too small, good handling and road feel and great tech with V2L as well. Pretty good review overall although you didn’t seem to mention the 2 features that makes the difference for me, in addition to all the ones you did mention; V2L and adjustable regen braking culminating in “ipedal” or one pedal driving, which the NiroEV (& ev6 too) does so well, even bringing you to a complete stop without touching the brake! I love this feature in Evs but many have poor regen including more expensive brands and the V2L makes the car a battery on wheels with potential to power your house in a power failure, or have a few electric luxuries while out on the road like boiling the kettle and frying up an egg!

    Yes, I’ve said it and now you’ve said it, the back end of the Niro does look like a Ford Focus.
    Anyway, good review and yes, I’d have a Niro EV if I could afford one and had somewhere to charge it. I’ll have to stick with Niro Hev a bit longer instead.

    One topic that could be interesting is comparing leasing with subscrption services Onto. Best value? Any gotta yas? Which is best subscription service? Any flexible options (I live in Devon, presumably subscription package flat fee includes say London, would a subscription with separate insurance be Cheaper) etc

      Goood question but onto are the only ones that include charging(that I know of) so with current climate I would say that charging is more important. Onto seems the best deal at the moment.

Given onto have a reasonable number of cars on the road I assume the rate they get is competitive, but obviously it comes with a 1000 excess. The only downside from my perspective.       @@Popdog76 yes, I get it works for a lot of people. Just fairly expensive for me. Taking the Zoe they use as an example, you can lease one for 24 months/8000 miles/£1k for £225 less than they quote. My insurance and charging would also be about a 1/3 of what they quote, so for me there’s only about £40 between subscription and leasing of that car. I reality I’d commit to a longer/cheaper lease term. Subscription would also limit me to instavolt as there are no Shell Recharge or BP pulse chargers nearby and the nearest instavolt a 20 mile round trip(10% of fully charged range)

      Subscription services are almost always more expensive than leasing or financing a car, the upside is you can have the car for a shorter period of time but you pay a lot for the privilege.
      There are plenty of comparisons out there that will give you a breakdown of subscriptions Vs leasing / financing I'd look at those before going with a subscription.

    "Monthly repayments on lease" - a lease is a rental construct, not a repayment scheme - you repay a loan or HP and end up owning the car, but with a lease you just hand over a big initial payment followed by monthly rental/subscription charges, before handing the car back (most commonly) or paying another big final wedge to keep it.
    I reckon manufacturers are going to find themselves in an interesting place this winter once people facing the "heat or eat" choice realise their extended car rental payments come some way below those two options. The GFV figures of EVs are so high, elevated in the same way as their list prices, that dealerships face having huge numbers on stock that they cannot shift... Also applies to other vehicles, but looking at current approved used stock, it'll hurt EVs more (for example, an ICE VW Up! for around £6k, but an e-Up! of v similar age/mileage for over £20k). But that's just the corner the OEMs have backed themselves into by artificially elevating EV list prices, then having to do the same to GFV in order to bring monthly rental costs down from otherwise eye-watering levels.

    Okay Ginny driving along that winding road made me think you were only doing 30MPH , as had you been faster the grass at the side would have had more waver, so was I right or does the new Nero drive better at slower speeds, it being a Hybrid and not a pure EV?

    The Id3 has amazing lifelike matrix headlights and at night it comes alive inside with the ID light. You dont even notice the plastic inside as they are solid and put together so well. I am not a fan of cars with the headlights sort of hidden on the front of the car…

    Canada here. I'm waiting to hear from a KIA dealership about when I can place an order for one of these (or a Soul EV, will depend on the MSRP of the Niro). Both EV's have yet to be launched for 2023 here, though the gas model of the 2023 Soul is now for sale.

    Do not buy an iD3 I had the iD4 and got rid of it after 4 months. It's infotainment is infuriating. Almost everytime we drove it something would glitch out. It actually accelerated on its own once on my wife and she refused to drive it anymore. I have the Kona electric which is basically the same as the Niro and I love it. Have had it for 25000 miles so far and other than being hard on tires it's my favorite car I've owned and I've had a bunch. There hasn't been a single issue with it. It's a blast to drive. My only complaint would be I wish the boot was a little bigger but I think the new one coming out is going to fix that.

    I agree, the Niro is bigger and better all round, and looks way better, has the frunk (should be froot), and better range, so no contest in my opinion.
    I used to own the old eNiro and most times I pulled out of a minor road on to a main road, the wheels would spin, so if the new Niro EV has toned this down a bit, then good result.

    I have friend with id3 unfortunately 3 times already came chec engine light, front sensors not working infotainment system unresponsive etc. I ordered Niro and I am very happy with my choice

    charging point in the front is the most impractical - covered by smashed flies, dirt and snow in the winter and sometimes it is impossible to get to the charger without backing up

      Tesla had the best idea! Rear quarter, a panel that opens without intervention and short leads that are attached to the supercharger!
      Oh and no apps or credit card swipes ! Just 1000miles an hour charge rates .

      I think I’d pick the Niro over the Megane purely based on specification levels. The UK Megane tops out at a mid-spec trim level and loses a huge amount of spec that is available over on the mainland.
      For that reason alone, Renault would lose me as a customer and I’d pick the Niro.

      Like the ID3, the Mégane is tiny (or at least much smaller). I haven't yet found any car of a similar size to the Niro. Several are a bit smaller, and several bigger (Enyaq, ID4, EV6). For my needs, the Niro hits the sweet spot for size, efficiency, range and practical boot space... Oh, and don't forget that the ID3 has 0 kg roof load - no chance of a roof rack at all...

    One for Wookie, maybe? I'd like to see a practicality test of electric estate cars ('wagons') - how many labradors can fit in, largest item from IKEA that can be transported home, wash-proof interior if a typical drive causes said dogs to lose their lunch, cost of ownership, biggest speedbump that can be traversed, high-street u-turn, can it fit through that set of width restrictors that are famous on TH-cam for taking out SUVs (call it the "squeeky bum" scale).
    Rules: they must be genuine 5-door estates/wagons, absolutely no SUVs or crossovers, you may have the cheapest currently available used Tesla Model S to see if anything has improved over the past 10 years (this is actually a fair point - some older large 5-door cars are cavernous, so is an estate/wagon the best non-SUV/crossover load carrier?).
    Then, just to throw the question as to why OEMs are SUV(very)-heavy and estate/wagon-lite, find the absolutely cheapest road-legal Vauxhall Zafira, do the same tests, and challenge manufacturers for reducing choice. I mean, is it really still just either the MG5 or a Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo?!

      Rob, I must say I always have been a Renault and Citröen driver and like it but.... Sometimes a change is good and after getting an old Passat as a second car, I was considering going for a VW for a main electric car... VW had me right where they wanted me!
      Plus, I don't really like the exterior of the Mégane that much, nothing wrong but it is not my favourite Renault.
      But then... I read of how VW failed miserably in everything that used to make it great, bad infotainment, nasty plastics, not the most practical car (what to say about tide capacitive buttons without backlight?!?!?!) And the new Mégane has a great interior, seems to do everything right, is cheaper and the battery tech seems really promising!
      So, if I was going to buy one right now, Mégane all the way or... Back to Citröen for an e-c4.
      Volkswagen, you had me right where you wanted me and then you let me escape! Shame on you!

    I hope Volkswagen are listening to the customer complaints and to all these disapproving reviews. I hope when time comes to face-lift the ID.3 and ID.4, they will fix all these software and quality issues. And that better be sooner rather than latter because better equipped EVs are pouring onto the market all the time, risking leaving VW behind. How could a massive company like VW miss the mark like that? It boggles my mind what they were thinking launching such a half-baked product. Other than that, the ID.3 and ID.4 are very good cars, smart looking and modern.

    Just ordered a Niro EV and the dealer said very few are being ordered with the different colour side blades! Can you talk more about efficiency side by side on these cars, for me that was the reason I chose the Niro, as the Kia/Hyundai power trains seem to be second only to tesla. Good video though 👍

      Good decision! I’ve had an e-Niro for 3 and half years now. It’s been faultless and over 66,000 km the winter/summer average is 14,3 kWh/100 km.

      Depending on how much distance you drive yearly. With a car you buy for having it available (but mostly standing in front of your door) you're right...
      But if you have to spent 3000 a year on gasoline (petrol) instead of 500 on electricity....why can you not spent a little more for buying and every year much less in operating your car? Its much cheaper in TCO driving electric (europe prices) when you're making a lot of kilometers / miles.
      (I saved literally the total buying price of my ioniq 5 (near to 60000) in 8 years driving electric instead of petrol. (Tax rules and energy prices in the Netherlands from 2013 to 2021))

      Check out the dimensions. The ID3 and Niro EV are very similar size. The only real difference is the Niro has a longer front.

      @@AlanTov Niro is 16 cm longer and a few centimetres wider. Distinctly bigger - pretty much in the gap between the compact cars (ID3, Mégane e-Tech) and the bigger models (ID4, Enyaq, EV6)

    I think the ID3 drives much better than the Niro. The heater can be changed on the screen and the volume can be changed on the steering wheel (at night). The software is fine. I've just changed my ID3 for a Cupra Born, which is the same just a bit sportier (straight swap after 12 months 14K miles!!). Cupra Borns can be had from stock at the moment.

      Have you driven the new Niro EV? I own an ID3 and the software still has occasional issues. Some top end Born’s have a performance boost system but most are identical to the ID3 performance.

      @@AlanTov yes, I went to a launch event at my local Kia garage. The interior is nice but it has quite a lot of power for a front wheel drive car so can wheelspin quite easily, the chassis not great either. The id3 is better (similar power but rear wheel drive) and the Born is a step up from the ID3. I have the E-Boost Born but to be honest given the chance again I’d spend the difference on DCC and Beats audio, it is quicker but not much.

    I think the ID3 is a brilliant all round car for someone who enjoys driving but wants a practical hatch for a couple or young family. It's faster than my Octavia VRS, very comfy and even pretty good on a B road. The infotainment is sometimes a bit laggy but it's no worse than quite a few other cars. The backlighting issue has troubled me about twice in 7000 miles. And the materials I think are fine - it seems to bother people who are used to a more cosseting interior with soft-touch everywhere, but that's not what it's about. The interior's USP is how airy and spacious it feels. Describing it as tinny is bizarre - it's all very solidly built.
    The battery charging tech is significantly more advanced than the Niro too. It's great for long journeys.
    There is one real downside of the ID.3 that you didn't mention: it can't take anything on the roof, or a trailer. This is quite annoying.

      @@Id3fornow... I have the matrix lights which are great. Range in winter, on the motorway, around 180 miles. Short journey consumption is pretty good now the battery heating issue from early cars has been fixed.

    It is very poor test. Why do you not test boot space (baby carriage, run bike and other ) , possibility to install a child seat? Also it is an important thing to know if it enough space on back seat when you will install two children seats.

    The ID3 may be the better package but not execution. And I agree with Ginny that the Niro is not an SUV. It's a hatchback that's slightly taller than some other hatchbacks. I think the ID3 has cheap materials in it because EVs are expensive to manufacture .Something had to give.

    The ID3 is a great car. In terms of being a driving car. It has lots of oomph to get up and go. Also, under ideal conditions, the range is better than VW says, which is 263 miles. I got 278 miles on a road trip and I wasn't driving like a vicar (thank you Robert Llewellyn). BUT... oh my goodness, the software is terrible. For some it would be a deal breaker. Nobody mentions Voice Commands either. Of course not. They simply don't work. Ask the Sat Nav to take you somewhere? It won't understand you. And it'll want you to speak the whole address in reverse order, in any case. Simply saying "navigate to Southampton", for example, gets you nowhere. You might be at the other end of the country and just want to get going. Nope. And this is the same if you type in the address. Yes, you can do it it in normal order, but the software is not intuitive. For comparison, tell a Tesla to take you somewhere, irrespective of distance. Within a few seconds it computes the journey and feeds in any superchargers on the way, if needed. VW (and pretty much everyone else) aren't even close.

    Vws infotainment and cheap interior would never see me part with my money. The lane keep assist is awful on narrow roads and u need to go tru 2 different screens to turn it off and when u restart the car it defaults to on. Touch sensitive haptic buttons are rage inducing and in the boot is a little storage area to keep the leads, when u put ur hand into this hole ur met with a piece of metal that juts out and has no purpose whatsoever apart from depriving ur hand of skin and blood. All that being said, the id4 is even worse. Vw made a complete mess of their evs by cheaping out on the essentials. I do like the kia, more so the ev6

    I had a test drive of Niro EV this week and was surprised by the power and, unlike the comment on this video, felt a significant difference in sport mode. I have a Niro EV4 on order but as I look forward I see a massive fly in the EV ointment...rising electric prices! If the 70% predicted rise is correct, I have calculated that using a public charger for the 8-10 long runs I do each year will in fact be more expensive than my ICE car! Savings from home charging will also be hugely reduced and checking today with British Gas their website says off-peak tariff no longer on sale. May have to rethink and I think this might deter many people from changing now. This will be worse still if the rise is the 100% some suggest (28p/kwh to 60p/kwh - ouch!).

      I hope you don’t have to wait too long for you Niro EV. I had one of the first e-Niros into France in March 2019. After 66,000 km it has been faultless and the built quality as good as anything I’ve owned from German or Japanese brands (I’m retired now but have had a lot of new company cars and others over the years). I can’t understand UK electricity prices, ours have only gone up 4% this year but then again France doesn’t use gas to generate electricity. Last year I did 75% of my driving from the 8 solar panels on my barn roof, about 15,000 km. .

    Recently seen a video on my favourite looking EV (Skoda Enyaq) and the biggest bug-bear was the crashing infotainment system... For me VW really dropped the ball on the infotainment system and for that I cancelled my order on the Enyaq... Any VAG car is a risk because of this. Within the next 12 months at least 5 new cars are coming to the UK market. So waiting 18 months for a non-functioning VW is just a definite "No Way!". I will get one of the 2023 models... By pre-ordering as soon as it becomes available. As for the CONSTANT excuses of delays in the auto industry.... Order from a company that has "vertical integration" and little to no delays! If you research you will see they do exist!

      The Born has exactly the same software as the ID3. It also has the same battery, motor and suspension. The only difference from the ID3 is an optional temporary boost system, a larger screen and some interior finish.

      @@AlanTov and a different suspension setup - more fun and agile, and the interior…much more pleasant in my opinion!
