GFX100 II | Should You Upgrade?

  • In this episode, we explore whether or not you should upgrade to the newly-announced GFX100II. Back in January, I released a video of my GFX100S MKII Wishlist. Little did I know, Fuji had no plans to do a GFX100S MKII this year. Instead, it appears they married the original GFX100 to the GFX100S and added several new features. So, should you upgrade? Let’s explore that very question in this video!

    Are you going to upgrade to the GFX100II? Tell me about your reasons to upgrade or to NOT upgrade below.

      I tried it. The autofocus was amazing and eye detect too. I have a Canon R5... still keeping it since I got a gfx100s because of the autofocus capabilities of the R5. So, after trying it for an hour or so, the autofocus was on par with XT5/XH. I need to do more testing and see if I can now totally replace my R5. If so, my upgrade cost will be cheaper since I can sell my gfx100s+r5+canon lens. But, like I said, I tried it, it is really fast compared to GFX100s. Please note I did try with the new 55mm... it could be the lens but I doubt it. I think the body is just good. Can't comment on the RAW IQ yet since I can't open it yet :P. Pre production firmware was buggy as hell though hahaha.

      @@mohdnorazmil thank you for your feedback. Pretty cool you got to try it out. If the autofocus slays on my slow 63mm f/2.8 then the AF is a home run. for sure. Hopefully they work out all the bugs.
      Did the construction quality feel any better? The finish on my 100S is already wearing in the corners and I baby the hell out of that camera.

      @@KevinDeal I can't comment on that much. It felt more comfortable but as for the built quality, to be honest, it does look sleek but other than the premium metal look at some part, it is not much difference.

    The video is nice for hybrid shooters like me. 80% of my work is photo, but I also do video and hate having an entire second system (Sony) just for video. I was fortunate to get my hands on the new 100ii and I’m optimistic it will be a fantastic offering for pros and serious enthusiasts!

      Also the autofocus feels significantly more responsive and trustworthy even on preproduction. I wouldn’t say it’s on Sony/Canon level (larger lenses are probably at play), but it’s very welcome in my book.

    Fuji's history in the past five years is to bring out a model, and then reduce the price by bringing out new cameras to compete with it. We are already hearing about a GFX100IIs. If you want a GFX100II wait a little while. They will reduce the price from $7500 to $6000.

      So far I am just sticking with my 100S. If they come out with a 100S II and ditch all that video stuff, I'm all in. I just really want the nicer AF.

    Nice video and views, Kevin. I sometimes think about the 50s II but will prob wait until later next year, regardless. Also, thank you for your comments regarding the 100s overheating. As you know, it's been a brutal summer here in Texas (Houston). Overheating was a no-go during many days. Even last weekend, I did a family shoot where I had the family go in and out of their home to maintain their own coolness... but then I had to stop for 10 and go inside b/c the 100s would light up after 20 min of mid-day 98F sunlight where I was shooting the family in the shade but was standing in direct sun. PS - you still have both Mamiyas C330s? A friend of a friend GAVE me a Kiev 60. Just dropped a roll to figure out at what speed the shutter is dragging. Shot the first roll and didn't take notes as the camera worked perfectly fine the last time the guy used it (25 years ago!).

    • @KevinDeal
      @KevinDeal  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do have. It’s my C330’s at the moment. I am letting a friend borrow one. But I need to get it back from him this weekend.
      I haven’t shot my GFX outdoors much since the spring. Don’t want it to overheat.
      Congrats on that Kiev 60!

    the vain hope that someone from Fuji might read this forum….. Why-O-Why did you think moving the remote release port “back” to the left side of the camera was a good idea?
    Don’t you realize the GREAT thing you did with the GFX 100, and the X-H cameras by putting it on the right side? Was that an accident?
    Still photographers, especially those doing serious landscape and other tripod mounted work, often use Arca Swiss compatible “L-Plates” that go across the bottom of the camera an up the left side so that the camera may be oriented either horizontally in clamp, or vertically. The left side of such plates blocks the port hatch, making access to the remote port impossible. Stupid stupid stupid. And, by the way, if one does use the left side port for remote release, the whole hatch has to be open, exposing the other connections to the elements completely unnecessarily.
    PLEASE if it is possible via firmware update, make the right side headphone port assignable for remote release.

    • @KevinDeal
      @KevinDeal  ปีที่แล้ว

      I hadn't thought about that. I don't use the port but I certainly hope they resolve that, because if I were in your position, that would be frustrating.

      I don't have first hand experience with the MKII yet. But owning a 100S, apparently the performance is near identical. And my 100S does incredible in low light. I have done night projects in poorly lit situations on my 100S at 12,800 ISO and the results were incredible.

    If I am not mistaken, I heard that you have the Canon R5 and the GFX 100S... according your personal opinion, which one has better color range for landscape photography? I know you are shooting most people and I know there are many sites talking about that, but I would like your personal opinion since you used both of them, thanks
