    As usual, you always craft the best and most balanced reviews and previews on the tube--and you created some pretty sweet images along the way. Thanks for the mention. I might have to revamp that sports autofocus blog post with the new camera since it is miles better than previous models. The camera has improved quite a bit since I had it for the launch assignment a few months ago. I bet you would have had a higher hit rate with one of the zooms, which are much quicker in the AF department. Hope you are well Dale. All the best to you.

      Thanks so much, bud! Yeah, I was thinking of reaching out to you about that to see if you had some updated advice. But I think the article still gives people a solid start and just adjust from there. Also, yes - I’m glad that you mentioned the zooms. This is something I’ve discussed with Fujifilm before. Zooms seem to have a shorter focal throw with smaller elements, and typically perform better than primes. I did allude to this in the video but me thinks I should have been more descriptive. Thanks for adding that! Looking forward to seeing what you do with this camera - and come hell or high water, I still hope to make it out your way eventually! Old timers still gotta rope up!

    I've watched several reviews on the II and your different approach was very helpful. My wife went with me to a camera store several years ago and encouraged me to buy a new Leica M8. I could not justify it. I think it's time to take her back to the camera store.

    I use a 50s2 for my main client, a jewelry brand in Hawaii. For me, it makes my editing process much easier because of the amount of information. Being able to take a small piece of jewelry and blow it up much larger while retaining information is great! Product with Fuji GFX system is aweeesomeeee

    I own the GFX100 and a couple of lenses but usually travel with the Hasselblad X1D ii due to the smaller size factor. Reducing the volume of a Medium Frame camera has always been the main challenge and its great to see that Fuji did it.

    I shoot professionally in a couple of different areas and I've been looking at this camera, but I've decided to wait for the 100s ii which has the same sensor .... One of the things that I love about this camera and GFX cameras in general is they do get you to slow down. There is so much running gun Photography with focus on speed getting the shot whipping through 100 shots in 10 minutes. GFX is the complete opposite? It is a throwback to the old days of film Photography where you really have to think about what you are doing or else your errors will really show up. I personally love it and it's a reason why I went into probably the slowest GFX camera, which is the 50s ii which I got into GFX because I was really intrigued by now that I'm invested in I still have my XT5 which I love for faster work and then I use my GFX when it's time to get the big dog out but I am very intrigued by this camera or the hundred S which I think is better value to be honest I'm curious did you do a review on the 100s ii

    A friend of mine just replaced his original GFX100 with the version II, and I have a chance to play with it few weeks ago when we did some shoot out, image quality is as fantastic as expected, the color, the resolution, what's not to like? coming form all kind of high end FF, A7R IV, 7RV, Z9, Z7, 1Dx..... I simply love what this new camera offers. ergonomic is also greatly improved, not a Z9 or R3 kind of comfort, but it's really day and night better than the old model, I found the old GFX 100's vertical grip is juts so horrible.
    However, even they claimed the AF has significant upgrade, I still feel it way way behind when it comes to shooting anything that moves, the eyes focus is still a hit and miss game, tracking a moving car, bikers, the focus always got confused and jumping around between different target, and more often than not, lost the target at the end. I understand this is by no mean a " sports camera", but I think it's still a little too crazy to have this kind of AF performance out of a camera cost $7500 in 2024. I do like what the camera produces in terms of image quality, just wish they did a little more on the focus system.
    With that being said, I think I still will add one to my bag, because I have 1Dx and Z9 and tons of super telephoto lenses already for those applications that need the reach and speed. especially now with the new 30mm Tilt Shift lens, it will be perfect for my landscape application, currently have a full set of Canon Tilt Shift lens so I am huge fan of tilt-shift lenses. 30mm MF ( 24mm FF equivalent) is not always wide enough but a good starting point, two more lenses I really want Fuji to produce is the FF 14mm F1.4/1.8 equivalent for my Milky Way shots, and a 24ish mm MF Tilt/Shift equivalent to my Canon 17 TSE, then I will be a happy Fuji GFX shooter.

    The 8K looks really good too, I’m not enthusiastic about the crop for it though. I can only hope there could be a full sensor 8K readout for external recording in a future firmware update, otherwise it’s going to be a painful wait for a GFX100 III.

    • @vistek
      @vistek  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I originally thought the same. However, how would you use 8K open gate? Perhaps just for reframing. The only significant use for open gate is anamorphic - which at this time, I don’t think there are many, if any anamorphic lenses to cover this sensor in a full open gate setting. The only other advantage is if you want a more 3:4 aspect ratio to your film. Though, how necessary is 3:4 at 8K? I’m not sure it’s necessary in almost all cases.

    Thank you for this informative video. Finally, a video that gets into the nitty gritty of actually using the camera as well as detailed analysis of its image/video quality. Bit depth, tonality, depth of field, color renditions and tonal transitions. Most other “reviews” focus on the resolution of the sensor. How sharp, detailed and “crop(able)” the image is. Ugh! When I watch a video review of a camera of this ilk (100+ megapixels) I already know its images will be super cropable, detailed etc. what I really want to know is how good the images are regarding those other factors. Particularly tonal transitions and color rendering. Thanks again. Subscribed and liked.

I do believe that it records proxies (like the x-h2 cameras). Just can’t say if it’s on the same card as the main files or not. I think proxy is only available in ProRes - so it may only write to the CF card, not the SD.

    I think that the only weakness of this camera is the limited sync speed. I do not think that Fujifilm will ever release a leafshutter lens* to shoot at 1/2000s with a flash/strobe. We probably have to wait until the first global shutter camera release.
    * I know there are adapters to mount Hasselblad lenses, but then you do not get AF work along with the leafshutter. It's like a three-legged chair.

    • @vistek
      @vistek  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. Though I would suspect that it is situationally dependant. There is a greater dynamic range in the II. There is a lower ISO - 80 and the camera performs best at this ISO range, in terms of dynamic range. I have not tested the camera against the original, so I cannot say for certain that the low light quality is improved but I suspect that it has.

      Hi there, thanks for the comment! I couldn’t say to be honest. I would need to do some side by side testing. Really great, thorough review! Does this camera have the ability to choose small, medium, and large raw files? If this is marketed towards sports and wedding photographers who sometimes shoot 1,000's of photos a day, this absolutely needs to be an option. Sometimes the file size of 100 megapixels is just too much for some jobs.

    • @vistek
      @vistek  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you Derek! The camera has three flavours of raw: compressed, uncompressed, lossless. File sizes will differ but not resolution. I’ve never seen this on any camera (someone feel free to jump in if you have). For the most part raw is raw. Meaning no reinterpretation or the data. The idea of that is you get the most information available to you, and then it’s up to you and your computer to decide what to do with it. So, at best you would do a batch conversion to say, a tiff file where you down scale by say, 50 or 70%.

    • @vistek
      @vistek  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the great comment! I’ve never attached an Atomos to a GFX camera prior to this, so I don’t have a point of reference. Although, there are different speeds of HDMI, so consider that could have been a contributing factor.

      Thanks for the support. Yes - it was a bit of a mission to coordinate the driver and the cyclists. Telling the cyclists to speed up wasn’t as much about closing the distance as getting them off their saddles and into a more action mode. Ideally you want to get your subjects to perform or act in the most natural way possible - so it’s about setting the stage for that to happen, beyond the practicalities of simple distance.

    What light system do you use? I just got my GFX 100ii 3 days ago. Shot bride’s portraits at a wedding yesterday. Loved it. But when I attached my Godox Trigger to it, the EVF stoped working. I’ve been seeing and hearing the same thing from the GFX community. Is there a fix with this issue? Help!

      Hi there. Sorry to hear about your challenges with the transmitter. I suspect this is something that will be addressed in a firmware update. Additionally - did you update your firmware when you got the camera? There was an important update released just as the cameras were shipping.
      Alternatively, I suggest getting in touch with either Fujifilm or the store you bought your model from to see if they can provide a more immediate solution.

    Question ? Is the viewfinder on 100SII removable ? So that you can use a tiltability viewfinder like with the GFX50S !

    • @Pentax67
      @Pentax67 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes and the tilt Evf is the old one ! Basically you take the tilt adapter from 50s and Mount on 100II . Just like on GFX 100

    speaking of depth of field, isn’t f1.7 in medium format equivalent to f1.4 in full frame? Correct me if I am wrong.

    • @runcmd1419
      @runcmd1419 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      1.2

    • @vistek
      @vistek  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are not wrong! However - are there many 43mm f1.4 full frame lenses out there? I can think of only a few (Sigma, Voigtlander...) I think that's the critical difference. When you take a lens with that same angle of view and you go really close up - the effect is undeniably unusual. I'm not intending to conflate what I saw as being a uniquely GFX experience. But I would say that any wider angle with that shallow of dof would produce results that, for my aesthetic, are mostly undesirable save for the rare instance.
      I guess I was just saying that it stood out to me as something I almost never see.

    I’m thinking of getting into MF for still images only. Hard to make a decision between X2D and GFX100 II. The big glass you’re talking of at 2:50 , Hasselblad managed to miniaturise with the V lenses. And there is the HNCS (Hasselblad Natural Color Solution) which obviously delivers accurate precise results. The only two things I’m missing on the X2D is a tilt display also for overhead and portrait, such as my X-T3 has one and because I’m EVF shooter a joystick, once used to it, it’s hard to live without one.

    Awesome first look! I do a lot of run and gun restaurant work... and I think your shots looked great.
    I'm wondering if you can answer something that I haven't been able to find yet but has been mentioned in some other videos. Someone said that the camera can shoot 20fps in 35mm crop mode (no mention of file format). The spec sheet says 8.7.... Not sure who to believe!

    • @vistek
      @vistek  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for the great comment! Very honoured since this was the first table top shoot I've done in my life haha. Anyways - regarding your question... I didn't look into this but I knew about and wanted to test. Unfortunately I ran out of time. I believe it just does a 35mm crop so it is a mock full frame camera at that point. 8fps is using the entire sensor in electronic shutter mode. You'd have to go into the FF 35mm crop in order to access the 20 fps.

    • @TheShelbinator3000
      @TheShelbinator3000 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      awesome, yes, I'm just trying to verify that the 20fps mode in 35mm crop mode exists, because a couple other videos mention it! And curious if it's a Raw 20fps@@vistek

    • @vistek
      @vistek  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have no idea! The spec sheet I was given doesn't list it. However in other burst modes Jpg vs Raw only effects the amount of photos not speed limitations. So, if I was to guess, I'd say that it should be the same.

    it's just the lens AF motor they used. 110mm F2 is huge but has the proper linear motor af. Unlike the newer 55 1.7 amd 80 1.7 primes which use crappy Af motors Fuji needs to get their shit together and they need to stop shooting themselves in the foot.
