Had mine for 10 years in Tornado blue. Only done 57K so it’s had a quiet life. Essential to have it serviced regularly, once a year, which in my case is by a trusted, local, family owned garage. Beyond wear and tear items it’s had its radiator and air con core replaced because of rust and as mentioned here, the suspension springs are a weakness and have been replaced…..and in the case of the front, twice. But they are not expensive. Despite the low mileage, I watch the timing belt life spans carefully, so the Mito is about to go in for its fourth. It’s never failed me on the road and starts first time. It’s really been a pleasure to own and I intend to keep it.
Got one, my first car, it's a 1.4 155bhp Veloce, but I got it of my sister with a remapped ECU at 201bhp. It does 0-60 in 6.9 seconds. Top speed 141mph. Absolutely love it
Since i was a young boy i love Alfa Romeo Cars. The first Alfa i've ever noticed was a Giulia Junior and i was 10 years old. Now I'm 58 and soon I'll buy my very first Alfa. Maybe a MiTo, maybe a Giulietta, maybe a Giulia Veloce.
Loved my Mito, always thought it deserved better reviews than it got. I had a 2012 1.6D - good mix of power for the size of the car and economy. Gripped well and could shift when you wanted it to. It did have a few issues with coolant loss (EGR casing cracking which I think was a common issue) and this happened a couple of times which may have contributed to a subsequent radiator leak. Wheel bearings seemed a weak point too, replaced them more often than tyres! I had the C635 gearbox rather than M32 and in winter it could be very stiff when selecting 1st/2nd but changing the oil grade helped. One thing that disappointed me was bubbling paint on the bootlid below the Alfa badge/boot release - didn’t think that was acceptable on a 4 year old car. Final nail in the coffin for mine was when the starter motor died in busy traffic one day. Ended up trading it for a 2008 Brera S which is a different breed and a real step up, and so far no trouble compared to the Mito, but do still have a little soft spot for it.
ewanwallace1 totally agree, what most reviews neglect to mention is how much more special they make you feel than in a boring Festa or Polo. You’ll never park up a fiesta and look back (unless it’s an ST) but you totally would a Mito. They just feel more special.
Thanks for the video. I just purchased a Quadrifoglio without knowing anything about it really just that it was a good deal with only 27,000 miles on a 2013 single owner. The 2 front coil springs were just replaced so sounds like a have done quite well.
11:26 Just want to point out, having done it multiple times, when changing the timing belt on a MiTo 1.4 Turbo Petrol 155, the turbocharger is not in the way, it's a relatively simple job that you can tackle at home, bearing in mind that you need to have the tool to loosen the belt tensioner pulley.
If you take a look at all the MiTos for sale currently on autotrader and put the reg number into dvla's MOT history check website, you will see that the vast majority of MiTos which are older than 4 years suffer from corrosion, oil leaks, gearbox oil leaks, broken coil springs, EML (engine management light) on, and other suspension related problems. The Multi Air unit is also prone to fail. Costs about £900 to replace i think(supply and fit). Unfortunately unless you specifically ask for the "oil strainer" to be changed when oil is changed along with filter it will not be. It is recommended changing oil every 6 months with the MA units.
I knew it was a good idea to start looking for a MiTo. I think they share the Plattform with the Punto so it should be a pretty reliable car. Looking for a facelift version cuz I prefer the newer interior. I'd change all the emblems to the matt-silver looks better :D I'd get the super tiny 1.4 8v engine 78-79 hp most trustworthy in my oppinion. Also I'd immediately change the transmission fluid just like engine oil, and filters. Greetings from Germany
One of the chrome thins on my grill on my front bumper is gone, that little round thing in the front is also gone, on my wing mirror I have a little bit of damage on the edge of the 2011 model, my rear bumper has a little bend in it and doens't fully connect to the car, it comes 1cm or something out, still I am really happy with my car only €2300 paid in Belgium (in BE that's cheap) My engine is in perfect shape btw
I have a Multiair Mito Turbo from 2011 and I just love it..runs great and had it for a year now..the multiair unit was broken in mine.."nothing I knew when I bought it"..but the cardealer payed for that to be fixed..very expensive unfortunately..so make sure that one is ok if you buy one...and be sure too have right oil and check for level once a week...if you have the wrong oil or to low on oil the multiair unit can fail..so be careful of that...no other problems so far..just great to drive!👍

I've had my 1.6 jtdm2 Distinctive from new, it's eight years old now and has been great to drive. Your right about the paint, my Rosso paint chips very easily, but the only other issues I've had are two n/s/r wheel bearing replacement's and n/s front spring X2 replacement. It's serviced as required by the book and surprises many an Audi and BMW up to 80. It's been very reliable and cruises very well, it has cruise control (2012). Underneath is very good too although the exhaust will need replacing soonish as the outer shroud on the back box has split. The rear boot spoiler has clear coat peel and am struggling to get the spoiler off currently, any ideas on that? But on the whole it's a great car and I've been getting as much as 71 AVG mpg before the cam belt change, (driving miss daisy) if you're thinking about owning a MiTo (Milano/Torino) go and get yourself one, just buy wisely 👍🏻😃

Hi one MASSIVE THING you missed witch happens to most of the mitos is the rear top brake light when pressed its very very dim when water gets in thats on most common problem have seen and had lot of mitos and family had all same problem thats one massive problem with mitos shame they dont nake them any more.
Hi neil don't know if you reply to old videos about this Alfa Romeo mito. I bought one recently from time to time the check engine light comes up and it's always the same error P0244 Wastegate Solenoid Valve A error. I've been to a few shops and changed the solenoid (they told me the old one was in good shape). But the check engine still comes up when i try to drive a little aggressively for brief periods. They told me all the turbo components and the car is at 100% level of functionality but this still bothers me because if it comes up i need to go to a shop and turn off the check engine light. Also while the light is on, the car goes in recovery mode and is really slow to drive like it was a 1.2 Fire Punto engine from 00s. Have you ever tackled this issue? If so let me know, I don't know what else i need to do to find an answer to this problem. Either way thank you so much for the content you put us trough it's fun to know about that italian cars are still so much an object of passion and these videos are really informative. Sorry for my bad English, it' not my first language. Un saluto dall'italia e un abbraccio ancora più forte da Napoli!
Another common fault on the exterior is the hatch opening button / heated rear screen / wiper failure. All of these generally have the same solution, replace the cables that go through the flexi section between the body and the hatch. I'd add on the interior, that silly cubby hole drawer to the right of the steering wheel is the flimsiest bit of the MiTo, they have a tendency to not latch and then fall open when driving.
Here was me thinking of Buying a MITO instead of a Golf but after watching this Video I will definitely give the Mito a miss Pity very good looking cars
Good info. thanks. Have heard Multiair can be very costly to repair, but only Alfa dealers know how to look after em, i.e. some filter hidden away needs replacing etc ? I have 1'4 QV
Nice cars. We had one for four years. Totally reliable . But, if I was buying again I would get a more powerful engine as the basic ones are a tad underpowered
Very true. I got the basic 1.4 105hp and it's so unwilling even in D mode. My next car will not be below 170 (Giulietta hopefully) but I still like the Mito, gorgeous looking car.
my mito Quadrifoglio came up with a suspension fault light on the dash which pulled it out of dynamic mode but about 5miles later it went away then came back on briefly before going away and hasn't came back. it was pretty wet out and the intermittency makes me think its a loose connection of some kind. Do you have any experience with this issue many thanks
Have a question about Alfa 145 and diagnostics. Can you explain in a video diagnostics on 3 pin alfa/fiat and what free programs to use and some of obd scanners that work with old diagnostics? Bought some but can't read anything. Maybe faulty odb scanner but wanna check it out with you
Neil, I love my 1.3 jtdm 95bhp. but gear changes are stiff. I know about the greasing and lube for the switchgear under the battery box. Is there any oil I could also consider changing🤷♂️ done 100 K+and great video BTW. Helped me decide on a Mito.
I loved the car but i had too much problems with mine. I had a 1.6 jtdm 120 hp. Turbo changed, dpf change, injector change, etc it had only 130000 km on it at that moment..
I so much think of buying a MiTo so I’m seeing the ads here and there. What I noticed is the gap between the front bumper and hood is really random. Does that mean a 100% front end crash or bump ? Or are they becoming saggy from even removing and putting the bumper back in ?
Hello Sir i Engoy watching yors posts about thouse lovely cars. Im just wondering if you my now cases with warning brake light, i got car from specialist and they changed front discs and pads with Brembo parts, in meantime rears looked worn but not low any way i changed rears today with Brembo pads and discs, as about month ago got warning brake light, after job done and new wires connected light apears to still be on dashboard, i did not drived yet after fitting breaks, so my be light will go. I check brake cylinder no fluid leaks as well level is good with new fluid so not siure what can be, any ideas??? Haw you came a cross problem like this, i did not checked for my be wires beinng broken somewhere. I have 2010 alfa mito clover leaf mulitiair.
I have question that even the factory couldn't give me an answer too,so pressure is on lol .Like the QV Line in the video , the grill, mirror caps ,door handles and wheels are all the same colour do you know the paint code for them ??Cheers
Anyone got any ideas / suggestions on a hollow knocking noise from the rear right? Just passed a TüV with flying colours, no wear on rear bushes, replaced the rear shocks complete (a common culprit) but the knocking persists. I emptied the boot completly and folded the seats down in case it was a latch loose, but no, it still knocks over things like drain covers and road repairs but once up to spead the knocking seems to disappear
@@ItaliaAutos Cheers - zero play in the bushes and the exhaust is rock solid as are the mountings and hangers 🤷♂🤷♂ It literally sailed through the TüV less 4 weeks ago... I did read somewhwre (can't remember where) that some subframe / suspension mounting bolts can work loose? ring any bells?
@@ItaliaAutos Thank you very much, so pretty normal shocks. Anything special I should be aware of ? I am thinking about buying one with 120k KM (round 85k miles i think)
How often Multiair goes bad on how many miles? Are they as bad as BMW PSA Prince engines with Valvetronic and VANOS? Thank you. I'm looking to buy 1.4 105hp version from 2010.
Bro, please tell me about TCT gearbox- is it reliable?? And can you tell me about Grande Punto avtomatic gearbox PLEASE 🫶? I lost my leg from cancer, and I can drive only automatic car. Can you help me with this information bro please 🙏
If you want a reliable automatic you'd be better off with a Japanese one. Toyota Yaris Hybrid comes to mind. Those CVT's are pretty reliable. Fiat is pretty average reliability wise, but the gearboxes were one of the weak points of the car.
Hi, thanks for this helpful review. I have an eye on one Mito and would appreciate some insight into the costs of repairs (as per last MOT advisories): Nearside Front Oil leak, but not excessive (8.4.1 (a) (i)) Nearside Front Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e)) Nearside Rear Wheel bearing slightly noisy (5.1.3 (b) (i)) Thank you!
I wanna buy my first car. How are the 1.3 JTD Models? I’ve seen a Basic model of that car, what exactly should I be aware of when buying that? For example, the model I’ve seen was 2011, 120000km, 95hp, had only one owner.
@@ItaliaAutos hi, I’m an owner of this MiTo for 3 months right now! Very nice car. Already done about 6000 Km traveling. Doing an oil change this week. The steering is amazing, we found with my wife both front seats super comfortable for long journeys! Diesel is a bit loud, especially when going 155km/h. So I’m pretty happy with this car.
I've a 2011 1.3 jtdm with 111k miles on it. Was running fine until yesterday when I noticed greyish smoke from the exhaust and my check engine light lit up. Any advice on what the problem could be?
Hello Neil .. Is it correct what I have been told that a way you can tell a TB155 from all the other Mito’s available is that the TB155 has a twin tail pipe exhaust where others like the one you featured has only a one tail pipe ??
So the only way if you want it to be specific Engine Mito such as a TB155 is look on the V5 then or are there any clues on the car itself that proves it’s a TB155 over say a TB120 ??
You can also see the larger front brake calipers on the 155. The tailpipe is usually what I judge by though (clover leafs also have the twin pipe though)
Deividas Navickas The key thing now is I have a clearer idea of what to look for when I am looking to purchase a TB155 Mito . Compared to Alfa’s of the late 90’s up to the 159 the Some Mito’s are not the easiest cars to identify especially the TB155’s .
Thanks again , had my multiair serviced thanks to you. Do u know anyone who wants an imaculate Mito QV only 24 k driven by me from new ? I would want at least £8600 am going to ad in Autotrader soon, but, just thought Id ask. Rob
Dont get one with xenon headlights. They are problematic and expensive to replace. 800 euro if you find a cheap pair. The dark ones are especially hard to find. Still i love it! 10 years old and the inspection costs more than the repairs to pass it. I do repair myself i have to add.
I have just bought a mito 16 plate twin air jumior model, I found this guide very useful when looking. I do have one annoyance with the car though, the beep when it locks and unlocks, is there anyway to turn this off?, I can't find it anywhere in the manual and due to the nature of my job i leave early in the morning and i feel the neighbours may start to rue my my new car solely for this beep.

There costly to replace but I can work on them no problem.
I am buying a 2010 Mito QV, is there anything other than the obvious I should look for?
I have a 1.4 tbi Mito 2009, didn't know they 2 cyl engines...if I understood it well...cool thing
my mito Quadrifoglio came up with a suspension fault light on the dash which pulled it out of dynamic mode but about 5miles later it went away then came back on briefly before going away and hasn't came back. it was pretty wet out and the intermittency makes me think its a loose connection of some kind. Do you have any experience with this issue many thanks
Could be
Have a question about Alfa 145 and diagnostics. Can you explain in a video diagnostics on 3 pin alfa/fiat and what free programs to use and some of obd scanners that work with old diagnostics? Bought some but can't read anything. Maybe faulty odb scanner but wanna check it out with you
There not always the easiest to connect to. It's a video I can do one day.
@@ItaliaAutos hope you do the video. Thanks for these tutorial videos
Neil, I love my 1.3 jtdm 95bhp. but gear changes are stiff. I know about the greasing and lube for the switchgear under the battery box. Is there any oil I could also consider changing🤷♂️ done 100 K+and great video BTW. Helped me decide on a Mito.
The video is so useful as I am in the search of a 0.9 Mito. My friend said the oil pump can fail, is that right? And how can one prevent this problem?
I've not had to change one
Thanks picked up a Collezione twinair using this brilliant video. Please make more videos on MiTos please
@rickidango8969 awesome
looking for one for my dad what's the best engine to get he only goes to the shops so I'm thinking petrol but not sure which one
Is the 1.4 78 hp model very sluggish? Would it be more sluggish than my 74 hp Mii, baring in mind the Mii weighs a bit less.
Only 3 year old car, with a bit of rust under. Does it snow where you live?
they use salt on the roads in the winter and this makes our cars rust.
I loved the car but i had too much problems with mine. I had a 1.6 jtdm 120 hp. Turbo changed, dpf change, injector change, etc it had only 130000 km on it at that moment..
I had one. The dpf gave nothing but grief and the relay for the air. Replaced it twice in six months
I so much think of buying a MiTo so I’m seeing the ads here and there. What I noticed is the gap between the front bumper and hood is really random. Does that mean a 100% front end crash or bump ? Or are they becoming saggy from even removing and putting the bumper back in ?
There's loads of adjustment. On the support bar, if bumper has been off it can vary from car to car.
Debating to get one of these in a 1.4 multi-Sri jet or a multiair Giulietta. I’m not sure which one is better?
They’re just different. Mechanically much of a muchness, the G is just bigger and four doors. Depends what you need in a car.
Did you get this fixed mate?
Can I ask you one question relate to alfa engine and transmission. Do grande punto have reliable automatic transmission?
I have question that even the factory couldn't give me an answer too,so pressure is on lol .Like the QV Line in the video , the grill, mirror caps ,door handles and wheels are all the same colour do you know the paint code for them ??Cheers
No idea but a decent paint shop would be able to colour match it easily.
Twinair is a two cylinder engine ( clue is in the name)
A good honest review,well done.
Glad you enjoyed it
Anyone got any ideas / suggestions on a hollow knocking noise from the rear right? Just passed a TüV with flying colours, no wear on rear bushes, replaced the rear shocks complete (a common culprit) but the knocking persists. I emptied the boot completly and folded the seats down in case it was a latch loose, but no, it still knocks over things like drain covers and road repairs but once up to spead the knocking seems to disappear
Rear bushes or exhaust
@@ItaliaAutos Cheers - zero play in the bushes and the exhaust is rock solid as are the mountings and hangers 🤷♂🤷♂ It literally sailed through the TüV less 4 weeks ago... I did read somewhwre (can't remember where) that some subframe / suspension mounting bolts can work loose? ring any bells?
I want to buy a mito 1.4 multiair with the TCT gearbix. Are these gearboxes reliable?
their ok
How much should i oay fir a 2014 ,1.6 desil .thanks
On the 155 which I believe is a first series QV cant we just replace the shock absorbers with some Bilstein or Koni and some HR or Eibach springs ?
If it's a 155 it's not a qv
@@ItaliaAutos Thank you very much, so pretty normal shocks. Anything special I should be aware of ? I am thinking about buying one with 120k KM (round 85k miles i think)
Hi what are the 1.4 turbo engine like. Some people say don't buy that engine in a mito
Fine is you service them every 8k with correct oil
How often Multiair goes bad on how many miles? Are they as bad as BMW PSA Prince engines with Valvetronic and VANOS? Thank you.
I'm looking to buy 1.4 105hp version from 2010.
as long as its filled with the correct oil filter is cleaned and its changed often it will be fine.
@@ItaliaAutos Thank you for reply, sir. :)
One more questions do these engines burn oil?
@@wellwh0 Got the same engine, from 2010 as well. Driven 10k km with it and it doesn't use any oil at all.
@@EndlessVoid98 Thank you. I have a Mini r56 1.4. Unreliable piece of s**t, oil guzzling. Looking to replace it for 1.4 105 Multiair.
I’m looking at second hand 2009 plate 53k Miles. Can anyone tell me any pitfalls I might incur?
Hi, thanks for this helpful review. I have an eye on one Mito and would appreciate some insight into the costs of repairs (as per last MOT advisories):
Nearside Front Oil leak, but not excessive (8.4.1 (a) (i))
Nearside Front Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))
Nearside Rear Wheel bearing slightly noisy (5.1.3 (b) (i))
Thank you!
I wanna buy my first car. How are the 1.3 JTD Models? I’ve seen a Basic model of that car, what exactly should I be aware of when buying that? For example, the model I’ve seen was 2011, 120000km, 95hp, had only one owner.
there ok.
Can you do buyers guide for guiletta 1.4 multiair
Lend me a car and ill do one.
perfect video!
Are these cars reliable on the 2017 Reg ?
Yes. Just serviced them with all the correct oils and regularly
@@ItaliaAutos thank you mate
what particular version is this MiTo? planning on saving up for one after finnishing my drivers licence!
Twin air qv line
@@ItaliaAutos thank you
I've a 2011 1.3 jtdm with 111k miles on it. Was running fine until yesterday when I noticed greyish smoke from the exhaust and my check engine light lit up. Any advice on what the problem could be?
book it in and ill take a look.
@@ItaliaAutos Unfortunately, I live in Denmark :(
Hello Neil ..
Is it correct what I have been told that a way you can tell a TB155 from all the other Mito’s available is that the TB155 has a twin tail pipe exhaust where others like the one you featured has only a one tail pipe ??
I dont think they all do.
Toby Hopkins Ok Thank you to both yourself & Deividas for both your info 👍🏻
Much appreciated.
Deividas Navickas The key thing now is I have a clearer idea of what to look for when I am looking to purchase a TB155 Mito .
Compared to Alfa’s of the late 90’s up to the 159 the Some Mito’s are not the easiest cars to identify especially the TB155’s .
Anymore advice on the QV model 170
regular oil changes with the correct oil and muiltiair filter changed.
Thanks for the boyersgoyd
What about tct gearbox??
It's perfectly fine. I just find them a little jerky.
Thanks-my wife wants to buy tct in October Veloce version 1.4
Greetings from Skopje
Is it a dry or wet clutch?
Qaiyim no idea??
I had a 2012 qv 170 hp for five and half years and it caught on fire and burnt out totally don't know how that happened
Ouch. Not good.
Sorry for your loss man.
Hi does anyone know if the tct gearboxes are reliable? Thinking of getting a qv tct for my next car. Thanks.
Quite an awful gearbox.if I'm honest.
@@ItaliaAutos appreciate the heads up. Thank you. 👍
If you don’t mind me adding that the 1.3 diesels suffer from timing chain issues.
Yes they do due to lack of oil changes.
Hello, I’m looking for a Mito. Is it smart to buy one with a 0,9 motor?
There ok.
Thanks again , had my multiair serviced thanks to you. Do u know anyone who wants an imaculate Mito QV only 24 k driven by me from new ? I would want at least £8600 am going to ad in Autotrader soon, but, just thought Id ask. Rob
I don't at the moment I'm afraid.
I'm interested, have u listed it up yet?
Hi...I have been looking online but can't find it anywhere...how do I take off the spoiler to get access to the third taillight?
2 ten mm screws and it’s also bonded to the tailgate.
I have removed screws before, do I then just pull hard?
Nice one mate good vid
Thank you mate , great stuff .
cheers
I can live with these things especially just for just nipping about
Thanks for your video
Dont get one with xenon headlights. They are problematic and expensive to replace. 800 euro if you find a cheap pair. The dark ones are especially hard to find. Still i love it! 10 years old and the inspection costs more than the repairs to pass it. I do repair myself i have to add.
Ouch!
@@ItaliaAutos those where the cheapest ones available! New Original parts would be 1200 a piece.
Why did they stop making these card they nice
Is it just me or is the 'facelift' on the inside (the media system) not really an upgrade? The older (bigger one) looked a lot better imo.
Great content
Love It 😍💙
thanks for watching
Very useful, cheers!
Multi ecu scan. You can turn is off with that.
Comment faire pour avoir la traduction en français pour une mito
Any advice for changing the head gasket it the 0.9 tb engine I've to change mine and there's sweet fuck all information out there about the engine
