This actually works really well, thanks for the run through! I have 1.4 prime lenses but I also own a micro 4/3 setup and the lens blur especially with zoom lenses is lacking sometimes. This tool changes things I'm shocked how precise it is 90% of the times. What I think also helps is to select the background (with the new subject select tool) and apply a 20-40 noise reduction just to get that smoother bokeh if you have a noisier image.

I’m a sports photographer, and currently when taking Sports pictures I usually opt for a safer aperture of say 5.6 when using a long lens instead of opening up to 2.8, but I’d really prefer the bokeh an aperture of 2.8 gives. What this tool will allow me to do is to shoot safe at 5.6/6.3 and quickly and easily add the blur effect that I want.
Yes I could do it in Photoshop but it’s quite time consuming to do it right. Quite simply I think this is brilliant.

Thanks for using real world samples and pointing out the challenges. Easy samples are great for 1 minute intros, but we photograph in a complicated world. Great video!

For the hair part of the 2nd example, I would bring it back to PS and outline where I want to new hair to be, and then do generative fill with by using the word (HAIR). Works quite well!

Basically a combination of the portrait mode that iPhones have been using for a long time combined with masking tools of both Photoshop and all Lightroom. Interesting alternative for photographers with lenses that are not top of the line heavy and very expensive lenses or that had to shoot with more depth of field for the subject but want to blur more the background...

Well, it looks really promising, but great expensive heavy lenses with full-frame body still are the best. Thanks Aron🙂

We agree that high-quality lenses and full-frame cameras are still the best for shallow depth of field,. The new Lens Blur tool in Lightroom is a great option for those who want to create blur effects without the expense and bulk. It's still under development, but it's already come a long way. 🤗

I did not know that this was available . PROBLEM : In my images the fur or hair (fine detail) is quite noticeable. I also noticed it in your images. IS THERE EASIER WAY TO FIX THAT??

would be awesome if it allowed you to create a custom mask (perhaps photoshop) and then import it into LR. being able to utilize a good mask will give you better results in the end.

    • @phlearn
      @phlearn  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hey there! For a cleaner result, consider refining the selection mask to fully exclude your model.

I have spent 5 hours with Adobe trying to fix my problem, using remote access, with no joy. Then, over and hour one the phone with a Senior Technician. All that to be told, in the end, that my Graphics Processor is not powerful enough :( @@phlearn

Would really really love to use it....IF it worked in windows, understand apple is fine, think adobe really need to address this. Amish also said the same in his last video having to use a mac not a windows PC. Colin Devon UK. Content of video was superb, just can't use it....

Try 32bit images, the bokeh will be closer to reality, especially in night lights👍🏻

This will probably get overused by new photographers like HDR did back in the day, and every photo will look like it was shot at f/1.0 lol.
But what this means is you don't necessarily need full frame or super fast lenses to get nice separation.
If you shoot say landscapes, travel or architecture and you only own f/4 lenses, but you want to take the occasional portrait sometimes, this can help.
You can get quite nice separation already with an APSC at f/4, and with some background blur already in the picture, you can add just slightly more with this tool and it will look natural.

Hi Colin! Sorry to hear you're having trouble using this tool. The Lens Blur tool in Lightroom Classic is currently available as an early access feature for both PC and Mac. However, we are aware that some users have reported that the tool is not working on their PC. Most likely Adobe is working on fixing these bugs and hopefully you'll be able to use it soon!
