I'd be cautious about ascribing Chicago's somewhat lower homeless population than San Francisco to good governance. When winter drops the temperature into the negative range homeless people have a powerful incentive to either find a job or leave. Additionally, when housing costs reach the kinds of stratospheric levels as they are at in San Francisco, people with jobs end up living out of cars. Chicago's government could be incredibly incompetent and still never get the same magnitude of homeless problem as San Francisco.

SF used to be amazing but has lost it's mind. I'm stunned to see how far down hill it's gone and I won't go anywhere near it these days. It's not just the city's leadership that's failed it, the citizens have failed it as well. Many stood aside while special interest groups pushed policies that felt good and kind but ultimately doomed the city. The city's leadership is also all to aware of how quick their progressive base will turn on them and hit the streets in protest leaving them scared to the point of inaction. Really, I don't see how they get out of it until they realize they don't have a homeless crisis, they have an addiction crisis and work to address it. Seattle and Portland are in the same boat. It's really heart breaking.

Yep, so sad. We live in greater Sacramento area and used to love trips to enjoy beautiful SF. On special occasions we would treat ourselves to purchases at some of the high end stores and make a whole day of it, go to the museum, Chrissy Field, The Warming Hut, all the places. No more. It’s unbelievable how poorly managed the city has become. Such a disappointment. At least we have our memories of those times. Love your channel. 😊

I was stuck in San Francisco UCSF when I broke my hip visiting my daughter’s family. My take on SF is that everyone (almost) has a narcissistic personality disorder. “Look at me and how (fill in the blank) I am.” if you are not that way when you move there it rubs off on you. My friend made that observation in 1998 when I asked him why he left SF. He said he couldn’t stand most of the people. He said from business men to homeless, they all have a super inflated opinion of themselves. Imagine thinking you are the highest order of homeless? Yes you would think you could crap on the sidewalk.

I was in ATL for a conference last July. There were homeless people everywhere and people sprawled out on the sidewalk and in front of businesses high out of their minds. And this was a prominent business district downtown. I encountered the same in Seattle, and I'm sure Chicago is no different. Not to diminish the problems in San Francisco (they are definitely worse), but just pointing out that these problems are everywhere, even if some cities are better at hiding it than others.

  • @unrecovery

Please clarify: Are you saying SF's weather is nice compared to CHI or that SF's weather is plain nice? As a former resident SF, and to quote Mark Twain, "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco". And he's generally correct for most of the geography in this city (cold, windy, foggy) except for some parts of northern SF during specific times of the year. The fog in SF is so pervasive, it has been nicknamed "Karl" to bring humanity to it as a coping mechanism. So yea, the weather in SF sucks and I don't know what you're getting at.
But what I'm really hearing from you is the typical grass is greener argument where, "The place I visited briefly is nicer than the place I live permanently." No doubt SF has descended into the depths of hell, but from a governance perspective, comparing SF to ATL to CHI is like comparing apples to apples to apples. The only difference is they're all in different states of decay, but they're all being run by incompetent, globalist, racist, progressive, identity obsessed, totalitarian, socialist/communists whose policies have effectively victimized the population at large in a virtue signaled attempt to never let any one single person be victimized.

    • @NikhillRao27

That quote is fake, and coming from Michigan, completely wrong. Some people like light-jacket weather where you're never burning or freezing, SF is perfect for that.

But SF has figured it out. Given your chosen cities, SF should have strolled away. But you are right. They are dead last and losing ground.

Chicago native here. I lived in SF for a decade. We are now in Sacramento ( hoping to get out) but go to SF frequently, and you are correct. A while back I bought a pair of Gap corduroys on Chestnut St. We parked in Pac Hts. for dinner, thinking it was safe. We came back- the car was broken into for a Gap bag. Yes, I'm a city person so I should have paused, but it was a weekday and it was very quiet on Webster--I was sooo wrong! It's the Wild West in SF. We're planning on moving to Chicago again & it's not without faults, but nothing like SF. You are not exaggerating.

In Oklahoma, we're still fairly cheap even though people moving here have basically screwed us long time residents as far as realty, people are generally pretty friendly, and my only slight gripe is being that I'm somewhat of a symphonic metal head, there aren't too many of those type bands around. I don't really know anyone that does the full on compose the orchestral part and then use a coordinator to record it live in studio then sync it with the guitars and stuff. Small price to pay for safety, cheaper prices and very little DEI silliness. ( I like the real definition of diversity. That's not what they're doing. )

Learn a little more. It's California's vote in favor of Prop47 Proposition 47 that's largely to blame. Per 'pedia: "The measure was endorsed by the editorial board of The New York Times, which praised it as a way to reduce overcrowding in the state's prisons. It was also endorsed by the editorial board of the Los Angeles Times, which wrote that the measure was a "good and timely measure that can help the state make smarter use of its criminal justice and incarceration resources." The American Civil Liberties Union also supported the measure and donated $3.5 million to support it.
Prominent individual supporters included Jay-Z and Newt Gingrich."

I’ve moved to Tennessee where the scenery is not as breathtaking but the government still has some grasp on reality, despite some excess social conservatism.

I agree, coastal California is a place of magical beauty. But as a nature photog, I can find the natural beauty pretty much everywhere. In all of California, the place I liked best was Death Valley. Yes, you read that right. It is gorgeous. And I got out into the 122 degree heat to take my photos. I am used to it, I live in Texas. Every place in Texas is brutally hot in July and August, maybe into September, but after that the rest of the year is very comfortable, and Spring is glorious. But maybe it is a place only Texans can love because it is a rugged beauty. Every place on earth has its challenges and it is so sad that that California is its own worst enemy. The corruption runs very deep. I won't be going back.

The Libertarian party always gets taken over by the democrats
"There was a word that I always liked; the classical economists used it: liberal. The word liberal really meant, in the classical sense, the liberalization of the individuals from the tyranny of the State. That word was expropriated by our opponents and it has now come to mean liberality with other people’s money. The word was taken over. And so I, more than anybody else, was responsible for introducing and publicizing and perhaps making world-wide the word libertarian. . .
I am sorry I ever did it. Why? Because the word libertarian has now been just as much expropriated as the word liberal."

Born, raised and currently live in Atlanta and Atlanta honestly is a pretty well run city and well run state in general. I have not been to San Francisco since the early 00s, but I have been to other places in metro areas in California and I completely understand. I used to think that the homeless population in Atlanta was a problem until I went to LA. As one of the few Atlanta natives still around the city, I can tell you that the area around ponce city market is definitely a walking community nowadays, but that place was a ghetto maybe 15 or so years ago. Now that area is really nice. Actually down the street from Ponce City Market lies to remains of one of the last projects in Atlanta. Atlanta is a beautiful city, its just too many people moving down here. Atlanta is not as segregated as Chicago is, but we have our gentrification issues as well. Also down the street from Ponce City Market was Atlanta Medical Center and corporate greed and politics led to the closing of one of the 2 Level 1 trauma centers in the city. Absolute corruption. The good thing was that the city would not allow them to tear the hospital infrastructure down to build expensive condos or apartments. So now its currently in a weird limbo, waiting for someone to buy it. Have a feeling Grady Hospital(the other level 1 trauma center) might actually purchase the property to build a hospital. Saying all this to say that San Francisco must be very poorly run if you think Chicago is better run. San Francisco might be the floor in terms of governance then...

I was born there in SF and lived in Palo Alto back before it changed onto the plasticine showcase it is today. It's my home in my heart though I can never overcome the price barrier. With SF at least, no loss. The people there these days are not the free thinking love monsters of yore, but they're...entitled? Never have I met such snobs in my life. Present company excepted! It may be a symptom of America's cultural decline. Only the wealthy have power, and they're awful as a rule. So this is what we get.
Someday America may be less like Brazil but i fear we're only becoming more third world - poorly run, deeply unequal, and dangerous.
I like to bike too! You should visit my friend Jerry in the Mission and we'll all go on a ride together! 😂 have a good day and don't be a cynic like me!

Yeah, no, on Chicago being well-run. Let’s just say “it’s a nice place to visit…” esp when you can be selective. As to Atlanta, the goid doc strikes me as typical of “coastal folk” who are always so surprised by how much more integrated Southern cities are.

The derelicts love the beauty of the city and the lovely weather as well. Chicago winters tend to drive them out of their tents, off the sidewalks and down south for a time. SanFran they can enjoy year round. Perhaps it's a plan to drive everyone out so the Chinese can have the city for themselves. Who really knows at this point.

I did graduate school at San Diego State University. Made little money so no taxes, SD was all up side. Ha. PlusSD is the best run major city in CA because it’s the reddest. I Loved it there.

Chicago only seems like it has competent leadership in comparison to the absolute joke of a train wreck that is SF. With that said, even though I agree with much of what was said in this video, this is not the content that I’m looking for from Dr. Prasad. I value his opinion on medical topics above just about anyone. Please don’t dilute your channel with political content. I can get that on 100 other places, but there are few people I trust regarding medicine.

@@Yungtskt they are. All you have to do is look at the legislation on the house floor there, versus what's on the floor in other cities or states. In fact, a fun experiment if you're disciplined enough is to not watch any news for a whole week and only read legislation.

6:30 You refer to "incompetence" of government official's voting to make Vietnamese an official language. You need to learn to see the difference between incompetence, and malice that is disguised as incompetence (or "compassion"). They are lowering the threshold of "official languages" as one more way to make the city harder to govern. Same with "Defund the Police". Making the middle class & democracy fail is always the plan of closet authoritarians, the goal is to make society ungovernable by normal people.

VP putting feelers out for recruiters. I hear Cinci is nice, quality teaching hospital or if you prefer to stay with the other UC just move to San Diego. Plenty of opportunities and your sneakers still stay clean 🫶
