The Calif. Zephyr in Ft. Morgan on 20JUNE2024 (Summer Solstice)

- This California Zephyr #5 arrived in Fort Morgan at 0544 MDT (departed 1 min. late at 0547).
P42s #174 (in Phase 7 livery) & #160 (the Pepsi Can) brought the 8-car train to its first stop with car 3 to the mid-station platform for 2 departing passengers from that sleeper. Then Darin gave Luke control to bring the train ahead 4 cars as to bring car 7 to the station platform for 3 new fares.
With the station work safely completed, Luke gave the high ball and on a clear signal, the Zephyr continued its westward run with the next stop being Union Station in Denver.
My thanks, as always to the operating crew for the greetings today.

That fella was on his way to Oregon via Sacramento and then the Coast Starlight. He wasn't in too good of shape but would travel ok.
Darin works this section off and on. He has been around out here for several years, and you wouldn't know he was working except for a sleeper spot like this one. Luke is out here a couple times a week but again, he pays attention to his passenger loading. Both are great employees for AMTRAK.
I am all set to celebrate the summer solstice. I have my fan, iced tea, and recliner ready to party. LOL!!!

I have been assisted with bags myself and it seemed that this gent needed assistance. He did make the train and is on his way to Oregon. I am sure he will have that aid when he gets there.
I have been paying attention to that town in N.M. that is between wildfires down there. Todau there were massive thunderstorms that dumped on the area but not where the fire is burning.
AS far as the comments, there are a lot of other things that take precedence. I do appreciate you chiming in once in a while. Just happy that you are watching the videos.

Happy Summer Mike-birds are glad too-rooster too off in the distance. My husband & I are feeling much better & when we saw our dr. She gave us some good Rx cough syrup to take. We had a nice rain yesterday but that’s all over & now 100s & dry. Highball isn’t that a type of drink???? Being funny for summer. Yesterday I did the calling off of the engines because you didn’t; I AI it!!! Take care & TY for 5. No moisture from Alberto up here, to south & sad about N. M. fires.

Yep. I didn't call the engines yesterday. Call it senior moment #101. LOL! By the tracker map, that train didn't exist, so I didn't get too excited about it. LOL!
I watched a news report about that fire and the evacuation of the town. Saddened to see what was happening down there.

The songbirds and the rooster were in tune today. I think that had to do with the south wind bringing in some much warmer temperatures. It is 91 F. here at 1522 MDT. WE are slated to have plenty of hot to live with for the rest of the week and into next week.

There the answer was the only dumb question is the one not asked that will get you killed. I may not have an answer but I a willing to look around to find an answer then there are two of us who know the answer.

After nearly getting run over by impatient drivers doing u-turns in a parking lot, I decided to let them see who they were about to run over. Now I use it as a holster for my scanner as well as for safety.

Hi Mike, always good to see you wearing your safety vest with your camera and tripod and radio. I wish they had people like you out in Naperville, Il. Which is an Amtrak stop going east and west. I see the same trains out there as you do.
I love the Pepsi Can livery. I was on the Coast Starlight that had a Dash 8 in the consist with the Phase III Pepsi Can colors

Good morning Mike on this first day of summer. That sun sure felt warm, almost hot when I can went out to move the sprinkler. Good of you to give a helping handon the platform. For some reason I enjoy when the Zephyr stops and then has to move forward to complete the stop. Our birds and roosters are as happy as yours are out there. Enjoy the day and stay safe and cool.
Good morning, David; I thank you for tuning in along with the comments. With the humidity being high that magnifies the heat from the sun as we head for 90 degrees F. or higher today. I don't miss living in the high humidity areas at all. There are only a couple of lead conductors that insist on single spot double car stops.
I think that fella had some mobility issues and was happy to lean on the handrail until he was called for. Luke did assist with the bags and the gent was able to board without help. He was on his way to Oregon via Sacramento.
I think the avian friends were celebrating summer too. At least the winds had not blown them away.

Mike, has you ever seen a freight pull into that siding in front of the depot, to clear the main for the California Zephyr?
Good morning, Pete; Thanks for looking in as well as the question. Yes. That happened several times with an east bound Z train meeting a late running Zephyr. Both AMTRAK and BNSF changed up the schedules so that occurs much less than it used to.

Good morning, Gerald; I thank you for stopping by as well as the comments. I think there may have been some mobility issues with that fella. He was an old driller from the oil patch. Not uncommon to see them have issues. Nice that he was able to make the doorway and to the seat by himself. That bag had some heft, and he didn't need to handle them alone.
I saw a remote report done by CNN on that fire. Glad that most heeded the warnings and departed while they could. Our winds are from the south all day and are expected to pick up in speed later. No fire weather flags yet.
