Loved this. Not massive fans of dressing up for ‘Formal’ or ‘Gala’ nights, which is one of the reasons we did Marella last Summer. But this seems ok and now not dreading it when we go onboard. Cheers for posting!
My favourite part of the sea days on P&O Azura were the formal nights. Felt amazing to wear a ball gown and tuxedo and see my kids in tuxedo and ball gown. The photos of the 4 of us dressed up are perfect memories because we don't often get the chance to fancy up!
So great to watch your celebration night. Yes, since Covid (or possibly penny-pinching) the celebration night and the sail away have been scaled back dramatically. Hopefully, in years to come, this will come back in full swing. Your outfit choices were brilliant and I'm glad you got into the spirit of it all. Looks like you had a great night regardless, and just think, it can only get better for you moving forward as this will be your only frame of reference.
Hi Michelle thanks so much and yes thats exactly what we said , we enjoyed this cruise very much but it also means it can only make future ones seem better when things are fully back to normal 😀 And glad you liked the outfits lol , thanks again
we are jeans and casual tops people ourselves, so we decided to skip formal evening. We ate at one of the other restaurants. But when we saw what some people were wearing , we could have rocked up in a white shirt and black chinos and looked better dressed than some. Zo dont get too hung up about formal celebration night, go and enjoy yourelves.
I get some people like to get all dresses up but we just aren't them people. Thats why msc are so good because if you don't want to then you don't have to and wont get banished to the buffet lol
I was on iona with my wife the week before you and the on the gala night and was impressed with the majority of guests dressed in black tie and cocktail dresses , but there was few children and the age off guests was towards the retired age group.
we are going on this cruise in 5 days, first ever cruise so watching all your videos for tips, bit nervous as don't know what to expact but you two are making me feel excited now with your down to earth approach, thankyou!
Good evening... Just got off the Meraviglia and they had 1 Gala Night. Certainly don't wear ball gowns but black dress with some nice jewelry (fabulous fake for vacation). Always have flat shoe's on. Just can't do a heal. Lol I loved your fancy sneakers, I might have to try and find some. I love trying different foods than what I normally eat at home. I definitely would have the lobster through. Lol Thank you!
This Is our approach to it, nice to dress up for a night or 2 as we wouldn't normally back at home, but we are definitely more comfortable in our jeans and tshirts lol. The best part for us is definitely all the fancy food. We would never eat lobster at home lol
Hi thank you for creating such informative videos. Can I ask did you have to book your table in the Pearl for the celebration night? Or did you just turn up and they seat you? And is there a set time for dining on that night? Thank you.
From what we can remember we booked it on the app once on board, but we were other people and it was our 1st cruise so they did most of the booking for the mdr
I’m so pleased that I found your video.. we are on Iona next week and wasn’t sure about the celebration night attire! But I love your style so I bought myself some sparkly trainers and a dress!
Hi good for you for going with a style you're comfortable with. Got called a disgrace and I should be ashamed for wearing them in some of the comments we had got !! Will always tell anyone never ever feel pressured to be or wear anything other than what makes yourself happy and I did exactly that. You rock them sparkly trainers with pride on the night 😁😁
Hi we're absolutely loving your Iona vlogs! We travel on Saturday and just have three more to view 🙃. The menu on Celebration night has wines listed with each course, would you know if these are included that night or pay as you go if you don't have a drinks package?
Hi thanks so much and from what we can remember the wine listed was just a suggestion of what they recommended to go with a certain dish. These weren't included but I'm sure if up to a certain price they would be included in your drinks package. We're not 100% sure though as we didn't have the drinks package
Great outfits guys! Never fancied going on a cruise though because of the dressing up and the feeling of being timetabled! I think you should always try things once though. Food sounded fantastic and glad you enjoyed the comedian 👍
Great videos. The detail is fantastic. Really helped us get a feel for the place. We are on the Iona this summer to Norway. Can i ask about dress code..can you wear t-shirts in the evening for dinner at the MDR or any other restaurants? Or is it a shirt for the men?
Hi thanks so much and don't think you can wear a tshirt in the MDR, it has to be collared like a polo or shirt. You can wear a tshirt in the Buffet though 😁
I have to wear a suit every day and look forward to dressing down into smart casual. Do you have to attend the Gala night or can i disappear into another restaurant? Fancy the Italian and Indian.
If you dont want to dress up then you can go to the buffet on gala night. Not 100% sure about sindhu or olive grove on gala night. Just ask at the desk in front of the restaurant they will let you know
If you choose to eat in the buffet on celebration night, is the dress code more relaxed? We are travelling with children and are not really 'fancy' dress kind of people but more converse/vans style!
Thanks, yes all the men wore jackets. I had to buy one, if you need one i recommend looking on burtons they always have different offers on daily thats where i got mine from
You both looked wonderful Kev and Stacey! It's been a while for us. 4 years ago our youngest got married and we bought a new suit and dress. Real dress shoes too, Kevin. They look good in our closet! Wonder if they still fit? The ship looked wonderful and the food delicious. We loved coming along with you for the Celebration! Don't know if we would have lasted the whole night but we would love to try! Thanks for bringing us along.
Hahaha thanks Dave and Kathy maybe you should dig them out the wardrobe see if they fit. We definitely loved the food it's always the best bit of any night lol. Thanks so much for watching as always guys , you're the best 👌 😁
loved your outfits (especially the shoe choice) my first and only cruise i overthought the whole formal outfit and hated my shoes, me and my partner are now looking at a mediterranean cruise, and i am looking for some sparkly converse :D
Thanks so much, we were determined to not feel pressured into wearing something we weren't comfortable with lol. Think you can customise your own glittered converse they are more expensive but did look really cool. The vans were a slightly cheaper option in the end 😁 thanks so much for watching
I loved you worn trainers (even tho they are smart looking) as I feel the whole NO trainers in areas around the ship in 2024 is so outdated. Trainers and smarty dressed is HUGE these days.
Thanks for the info. We are on that cruise in July. Did you book any restuarant before you went on it? Like the gala night. I thought we had to book. Also I didnt see any masks on the guests. Is it mask free on board?
No on gala night we just booked which restaurant we wanted that morning. We did do 2 speciality ones on the boat, we did sindhu & keel and cow. Those videos will be coming out next week. As for masks, they said to wear them for checking in and once on the boat we took them off. Hope you enjoy it. Any more questions just ask
Thanks. I'm glad the mask thing seems to be over. Do you know if they were running with full capacity? Didnt look that busy. Also I hope we get better weather!
We prefer MSC for their more relaxed approach, was very disappointed on the P&O one we did that they expected everyone to dress or for gala evening and it was non existent. Apart from a different menu it was no different than any other night
@@OneCouplesAdventure oh I have a thing for sparkly shoes! I have Mickey Mouse vans, the sorcerer Mickey ones in blue, iridescent vans, about four pairs of sparkly converse. It’s ridiculous!
Hi, one of the guests in our party asked if there was something else available that wasn't on the menu as she didn't like the look of anything and they told her no
@@OneCouplesAdventure we did yes. Def a nice different way to spend xmas and new year. but they did use covd as excuse not to do stuff. hopefully be better in future. was nice atmosphere on the ship.
Must admit personally I find the menus on Iona a bit over complicated and too poshed up. This was my 3rd cruise on Iona and I still felt there is a lack of basic "always available" dishes in the main dining rooms. Perhaps it's a post covid issue ? I don't know. Going back on Ventura soon and hoping the menus are a bit plainer (they used to be). I had pizza on the final day and it was swimming in fat, roost beef in the buffet was like chewing an old boot. Never had that on any other ship. Italian dishes I tried in The Olive Grove were nothing like Italian (my ex of 10 years is Italian so I know Italian food). However breakfasts in the main dining rooms were excellent. Best food I've ever had was on Marella, people knock it but the standard is better. Just my opinion.
I know what you mean about the main dining room meals, i would of prefered less fancy bits and more food lol. We ate at the buffet once for dinner and found it lacking abit. We really enjoyed keel and cow and shindu, worth using our "free money" on those. The fish and chips in the quays were one of the best meals, which sounds weird but we had that a few times. We did the olive grove for lunch and enjoyed it, ye it was a bland version of italian but it was a nice change
We thought Olive Grove was poor as well. I don’t think it’s meant to be Italian. It’s Mediterranean so features dishes from various countries. Enjoyed all the other restaurants though with exception of The Glass House. Not tried Marella yet but would like to.
Loved this. Not massive fans of dressing up for ‘Formal’ or ‘Gala’ nights, which is one of the reasons we did Marella last Summer. But this seems ok and now not dreading it when we go onboard. Cheers for posting!

Taking a cruise is definitely on my bucket list. Anyhow you guys look really fancy.
Your posts wereall really helpful Thanks and keep posting
Were you able to book in the Pearl restaurant for Celebration Night?
Thank you so much, on IONA next week. VANS it is with my suit. Loving your Vlogs, it’s our first cruise.
Haha glad we could help
Have a brilliant time and you'll rock them vans 😁

Meant to say I enjoyed your videos
We were on Iona in February and there was lot’s of entertainment. People should still realise covid hasn’t gone away and things are different for now.

Its normally on the 1st sea day, so it was on the sunday for us
@@OneCouplesAdventure thanks it doesn't tell you any where !! Cheers
I know you will find that ALOT with p&o, its hard to find the info you need
That lobster is what I call a decent lobster the one I had on Arvia was probably 25 times smaller than that .
I hate dressing up on ships, hope that doesnt mean they is a dress code for eating as ill be at the buffet every day haha. Im casual all the way
You do have to for Gala evening, otherwise the only option is the Buffet. Smart/casual is fine on the other nights

A typical P&O Cruises ship, bland and dull interior. I started cruising with P&O years ago before switching to Princess which is far superior.
We are going with princess at the end of April to Alaska so will be interesting to see the difference
There aren't any free restaurants. You paid your cruise fare so those "free" restaurants are restaurants without an extra tariff.
But its less wordy and easier to say free rather than the ones you have technically already paid for in the price of your holiday
I think most people are aware of that. No need to point it out
