Despite the disappointment it was still a lovely trip up the Fjords Stacey and Kev. Nothing can be done about the weather! Sorry about the high speed boat ride but this was more our speed. The Fjords were beautiful and we loved your video. Thanks so much for bringing us along!
Hello lady & gentlemen l. Your uploaded so interested and nice video sharing. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed watching like support and subscribed. Have a great day and stay connected ❤️
Hi. When you said this was your first cruise I was very surprised. I follow a few different vloggers and yours is right up there with the one's who have been doing this for year's!! Well done. Sorry you missed your port but the video was awesome. Thank you for sharing your adventures.
I get lost alot on a cruise ship.especially my room.all the doors are the same. I remember that one door has plenty of photos on it.then im close by. I put yellow stickum on my door says "BARBARA'S ROOM". Im home!!😂😂
Thank you 😁 its gutting when you can't go somewhere on the itinerary that you are looking forward to but you can't let it ruin your holiday and just have to make the best of it
Hi not sure if you've been told this but as long as you have cruise cover you should get money back for missing ports!! Not that it makes up for it !! But just to let you know .enjoy the rest of your cruise xx
You will find this with the bigger ships, don't let this cruise put you off cruising, there are some great ships out there and with lots to do, you will get to go to Stavanger I'm sure.
Hi Susan thanks for watching and it definitely hasn't put us off 😁 although we were disappointed at first we ended up having a great time admiring the views of the Fjords.
Nice vlog,Same thing happened to us back in 2019,we couldnt anchor in Santorini because of the strong winds,Yes we were disappointed, but understood, safety of passengers comes first..
I was on the same cruise. Unfortunately missed ports due to weather conditions are not uncommon. I've been on Iona 3 times and it does seem more prone to wind issues when attempting to dock. (that's the price you pay for a large ship with a big profile, side wind is an issue). So claim on your cruise insurance for missed ports, it's worth it. If you can't see the option to claim online, call your insurer. Also when missing a port visit guest relations to pick up a letter explaining why and when the port was missed, you'll need this to claim from your insurance company. (P&O don't automatically issue one to you, so ask). In general smaller cruise ships cope better with such windy conditions when docking, when booking an cruise itinerary keep in mind the port locations you're interested in visiting. Example inland ports (like Amsterdam) are more reliable than ones on an ocean front. Madeira for example (as you well know) is tricky not only for aircraft but also cruise ships. I hope this hiccup didn't put you off cruising because it's a fabulous way to see the world.
Hi Viktor thanks for taking the Time to write to us. We did pick up a missed port letter from reception quite good you can claim it back 😀 And as much as we were looking forward to Stavanger we know it can't be helped and to be safe is the main priority plus don't think the captain wants to risk damage to this brand new ship by trying to Dock it , can you imagine lol 😮. We soon forgot about it when we were stood on the deck looking at the amazing scenery. And no it hasn't put us off we just know to bare it in mind that it could happen again.
Unfortunately with P&O they always miss ports over the slightest little thing and out of all the cruise companies we’ve sailed with, P&O are far by the worst to sail with
Haha glad it wasn't just us that wanted a mug either lol. We keep looking on ebay but they are so expensive, and yeah we were gutted and first but it definitely made up for it when we sailed through the Fjords. Hope you had a great time
@@OneCouplesAdventure we had a wonderful time thanks. It was our first cruise too but have two more booked now. We think we saw you around the ship a few times. My sister & I took turns pushing our mum around in a wheelchair as she’d broken her foot a few weeks before the cruise. My husband videod and I’m hoping he’ll upload some on our joint account fairly soon
I was still happy you vlogged this. It is real life. I know I’d love to do a Viking river cruise but they sometimes run out of river and bus the whole trip or the river is too high and they won’t fit under the bridges. I’ve never done a cruise and think I’ll only do the smaller ships. I’ve heard about the lines on those mega ships and honestly with 5,000 people on board if you had to abandon ship and only had a short time to do so is everyone getting off safely? I’m older so don’t need all those slides, etc, etc. I hope you get to get off and find it’s wonderful. Looking forward to your next vlog.
Thank you so much and yes it was a big ship and with the Fjords being so narrow I guess these issues through no one's fault can occur. We were disappointed but determined to still have a good day. Thanks for watching and yes stay Tuned to see if we make it off lol 🤣
Hey there, folks, really enjoying the video. I'm sure you're really disappointed, but the video is still very good. Always err on the side of caution, putting safety first even when accidents sometimes occur. You should expect this on the larger ships; nevertheless, you shouldn't allow this experience dissuade you from taking another cruise since there are some amazing ships on the market with a wide variety of activities to choose from.
Hi thank you so much and yeah we understand its just one of those things. We were disappointed at first but the captain sailing us through the Fjords soon made us forget lol. We had a great time 😁
the easiest way to find out which way your walking towards the ships stern (back ) or Bow (front) is just look for the ships funnel as that will tell you your heading to the back or near the back and you will then know the Bow (front ) is the opposite way, also Port is the left side and Starboard is the right side of the ship and Aft is the direction of the ships stern and forward is the ships bow and the part of the ship in the middle of the two is called midship, and if you look above the Bridge at night you will see a red light for port and green light for starboard that's one of the ways to tell the sides apart
On Iona, for future reference, they also have artwork that is coloured. Blue for front, grey for middle, red for back. So if you’re near the stairs at any point, take a look.
I was on MSC Virtuosa a few weeks ago and we had to cancel one port due to snow (which I couldn’t believe in May!). If it’s any help, I actually didn’t really enjoy Stavanger, so don’t worry too much that you missed it!
@@OneCouplesAdventure it was a ‘technical stop’ (never seen that on a cruise) - I think so that people could get off at one end of the Fjord for an excursion, then meet us at the other end at our actual port. I really enjoyed Virtuosa - I’ve got quite a few videos to create and upload of my time onboard if you’re interested!
Oh, so sorry to hear about your missed port and the RIB tour. Hopefully you can claim the missed port back on your travel insurance. I was on the first sailing to Norway on Iona and we made every port so it was definitely the weather rather than the size of her from my experience.
We put a claim in when we got back so hopefully that gets sorted soon. How exciting you were on the first sailing that must of been really exciting, and yeah we were disappointed at missing Stavanger but the captain made up for it by sailing through the Fjords, he can't help the weather lol. Oh well it means we will have go back on to see it next time instead 😁
Amazing video, We cruised to Carribbean in Azura & Britannia few yrs back Carribbean and with sapphire princess to Norway, I enjoyed watching your video. Thanks for sharing. Narinder Kaur & Satnam Singh
Started watching this, thinking this happened to me on Iona - I was on this exact cruise on Iona on cruise starting 21st may. Was that the cruise you were on?
@@OneCouplesAdventure was my first cruise, had a lovely time but really disappointed about Sara anger and the other change in where we called at instead of gerainger. That aside, really enjoyable! It’s really funny, I wandered if we had any TH-camrs on board! Hope the person they’d had to send to hospital by helicopter in the morning on first sea day is ok.
Iona is next august for us and this is our first ever cruise to! I’m off to portaventura theme park resort though this Friday for 11 nights and it’s so needed lol. How much roughly are some excursions? I can’t look until august and I’m interested in knowing how much i need to save x
The excursions with p&o are on the more expensive side, we had booked to do a fjords rib boat in stavanger which was for 2 hours and cost £95 each. We did a troll car in olden that video will be out mid week and booked through a local company and it worked out about £25 each cheaper than with p&o. Hope you enjoy portaventura, we have never been but have looked at it and will go ome day lol
It kinda is, at least in a hotel when it stops raining you can step outside and go where you want to. When you miss a port on a cruise and dont get to go another port instead you are then stuck on the ship. Thats why we can now put in a missed port claim in with our travel insurance because we missed something that was paid for

Better safe than sorry, safety first, sometimes it happens in Funchal, the mega cruise liners cant dock.
Definitely they can only do what they can, as much as we were disappointed we know its for our own safety
