I just did this OS migration instead of the full cloning because I didn’t want any of the old currioted files etc being moved over . I want to use my M.2 for booting up and editing programs and gaming . Is this the proper way to do so or do I need to do more steps to use everything I need on the M.2 and only store things on my old HDD because I plan to keep both . I looked for your video to turn the HDD into storage and sadly couldn’t find it :(
Hi, please reply to this comment. I had a HDD and newly installed m.2 SSD 2TB, but I had it installed as extra storage because I’m too afraid that I’ll have to re install my apps e.g fl studio (music software) which includes several installation add-ons within the software. As a result my computer is still slow but I now just have more storage. Although, watching your videos I’m seeing it may be possible to still keep the installed programs once they’ve been cloned to the SSD. I’m wondering if I can clone and then boot from SSD to see if the programs still work (whilst some how disabling the original hard drive) just to be sure that the programs are working from the SSD and not the current hard drive. Then if the programs don’t work would I be able to change the bios to boot back from original hard drive and which still has all the content on it. Surely the programs would still work fine? And I’d be back to square one, a hardrive with an SSD as extra storage? Please let me know, I’m in a crisis! In short I just want to test if the programs would still be installed and work fine on the SSD and if not I’ll just continue with my current scenario

Yes it does. You will see an incredibly fast windows boot time. Games will load much faster and so will apps, but small apps, you won't notice a difference.

AyhamGaming so did u just leave them?
With the Dell laptop, is it best to copy the entire ssd (os,image, recovery, etc) or just the os partition, im upgrading the 128gb ssd that it came with Thanks.
I have a problem regarding this, after clicking the migrate os to SSD/HD a messagebox popup saying Because the bootable volume and system volumea re not on the same disk. Migrate OS to SSD/Hd Wizard cannot be launched. Sorry. Im using the same version of minitool app. Ty!
Hi. Can i clone hdd to m.2 ssd using adapter with files on it? Or should i format m.2 ssd first before cloning? Thank you..
Okay so sorry I’m very new to all of this . Quick question so I previously had an HDD drive and just got the m.2 nvme Samsung 970 evo plus .
In short I just want to test if the programs would still be installed and work fine on the SSD and if not I’ll just continue with my current scenario
minitool now requires payment to do this and anything.
Check link in the description for updates
@@EasyTechs Still points to minitool
No longer available with the free edition, only with pro service
Just go ahead and search for the 11.5 version or earlier. It lets you do what he did for free. That’s what I did since the 12.0 version you have to pay for all of that
when i installed it i also installed the minitool shadowmakere, it is the free version of the application.
it is a little bit different but it does the same job
Good to see you again easytechs clicked as soon as i saw the notification :)
Thanks for the support:)
i have 223gb free space on my ssd my it says not enough space for the OS to be migrated. How big is the OS file?
Same problem here. Have you figured it out yet?
I figured it out. If your operating system is partitioned to a much larger hard drive you can't clone it to a smaller hard drive
@@matthewwilloughby2594 Hi Matthew, i have the same problem but have no idea how to make windows 10 fit into a small partition again, any advice? My HD is 1T and almost full (10% left), my SSD is 250G
@@erikbarentsen9589 unfortunately your OS is partitioned to the 1tb drive so there isn't a way that I can find anyway to reparation it to a much smaller drive because its partitioned to a 1tb drive
@@matthewwilloughby2594 thx for your response
about how much GB of space will get occupied in the SSD after the process? I wasn't able to confirm here in the video.
How about the user files (user folder; documents, music, video, desktop, etc,) and also the programs installed on program files? will it be also migrated to the ssd?
That is what I am worried about. I read that constantly writing data and keeping files on the SSD will slow it down, and it will gradually lose its writing of files. I am looking to have the system itself on the SSD and all other files on the HDD. M.2 sata and hdd in the pc.
@@Joe_334 i keep my games on my ssd for faster loading tho hahaha.
when i select i wanna keep both storages. it then says "Since a different sector size of the source disk and the destination disk, MiniTool Partition Wizard cannot continue." any idea how to fix this
Sir I have 1 TB hdd, but I want to migrate only my os to 240gb ssd as you shown. Will this not affect my files stored in hdd?
It says i need pro version to migrate ??????????
@@AlphaPenComputers how to get version 11?
@@papipalinka3991 I had the same problem. He is using 11.4 where it is free, but the most current version is 12. I searched for 11.4, found it on some site called filehorse, and it worked for me.
i have a 500gb ssd but when i try to migrate windows it just says disk space is too small
Did you find a solution?
I bought an nvme ssd m2 and when i put it in, and turn on the pc it says "boot drive not found" and I go into the bios and the only boot drive is the m2. My 2 other hard drives are gone. And when i take out the m2. Windows and the 2 other hard drives are there and it works. I also tried putting in the m2 while the pc was running and it completly shut down the computer. Is there something wrong with my computer or m2? Or can this be fixed?
I selected the same option as you bit it tells me my destination disk doesn't have enough space but It has 237 gb free
then your old disk is bigger than 237gb
Hello I have a laptop with a Windows 10 operating system built in the M2 drive
When I boot my laptop I can select the language of the operating system
when I choose to clone from a drive to another I can still do the same thing
on the new drive
Thanks
i don't have any boot partition. my hard disk is pertitioned from device manager. if i migrate my os to ssd. then my files will remain or not?
I would like to know after the migration process, is it possible to delete the windows os on the hdd now, and how?
Question bro, would the drivers be included in the migration of OS only to the SSD? Would it be fine to delete the rest of the OS files left at the HD so I can use it purely for storage?
im trying to transfer the OS only onto a 250gb ssd and it is saying that there is not enough disk space. idk what else to do. please help.
i have the same problem have you found a fix?
BaconBoss4 no. I just installed windows onto the SSD myself and used the mechanical HD as an extended HD. Works fine.
After Windows booting upgrading hdd to ssd then. Windows booting from ssd windows update coming or not please reply
All instructions for migration perfect. BUT I have 2 nvme slots. I wanted to clone and upgrade C to E, (which I did) but now renaming drives to boot from higher ssd. Running 2019 Helios 300. Or do I have to physically switch sticks?
Hello, my question, so this will just transfer just the OS files only? Not the other programs? Thanks...
This Mini Tool Wizard doesn't work, though they claim it is free but it isn't. When I hit apply it is asking me to purchase their software. Even I downloaded old version like 11.6 but after installation it is same 12. Are there any alternate cloning software available?
my m2 SSD has 500G of storage but its still too small for just moving the OS.
pls help anyone. why is my OS so large?
same
Same
Just one question in my mind... Do I need to activate windows again when I move the OS from HDD to SSD??
I have pc with ssd, I want to move it to m.2
But I'm Afraid of losing something all my work and games save files on it
My question is are you sure that the copy with be 100% exactly the pc setting and my games......?
It’s okay if I delete everything from the old drive right? It won’t affect anything right?
Does any boot-able tool can be store in an usb stick and use this usb stick to boot, then clone sata HDD to NVME M.2 SSD?
This no longer works after the upgrade to version 12. Version 11 doesn't seem downloadable anymore. Do you have another free cloning utility you recommend?
Hi, i hope you can reply this, should i delete the old windows files in HDD? after migrate the OS?
Hello, thanks for the tut. I have a question: If all is OK, can we clean the original mechanical HDD ? all will be work fine ?
do u loose ur data after completition
? because ive benn using computer without m.2 ssd and today im trying to copy without loosing data
it worked but one thing that happend was that the recovery drive and a system reserved drive was made seperate where as b4 the previous drive it was together? is this normal or is there any issues for it to be like that?
I do both music production and video editing, plugins & projects files are saved everywhere i mean those softwares recall files saved on other partitions rather than my system partition .. can i clone both windows and data partitions to an ssd and a new hdd respectively without any further issues related to file directories ?
Thank you
If I Migrate Only the OS from a HD to an SDD it Will automatically be deleted from the HD ? Only runs from the SSD now right no need to delete it from the HD
Can i just use my m.2 slot to migrate my os from hdd to my new m.2 ssd? or do i really need to buy an m.2 adapter to sata?
Hello sir, i tried to migrate my os from hdd to Nvme but it said that
" Because the bootable volume and system volume are not the same disk. Migrate OS to SSD/HD wizard cannot be launched. What does it mean?
What do I do when it says, "Since a different sector size on the source disk and the destination disk, MiniTool Partition Wizard cannot continue." This happens whenever I select the m.2.
Great video. Is there any formatting or prep of your new drive before starting this process? At 9:04 in the video, what is the benefit of checking 'Align partitions to 1MB' - should this be checked or unchecked? I am going to migrate from SATA SSD to M.2. Is that accent Cameroon or Nigeria?
It says the specified disk is too small. Any help with this? My new SSD is also 250GB like in the video
So I've download various versions of MiniTool and Microsoft Defender say it has low level treats (viruses). I don't trust it. Is there any other free software I can trust to clone an OS over to an M.2?
Loved how the video was not rushed, nice work was very easy to follow.
Good to know it helped you out, thanks for the feedback!
i have 240gb SSD. it says the disk size is too small to migrate the OS. how big SSD size needed? please help.
I did this but now I face a problem. Everytime I power up my laptop, it comes up with boot manager, where it shows me two OS. Even though I deleted my OS that was on my HDD.
Does cloning the HDD in the SSD makes the apps launch faster? I am actually planning to add m.2 on my laptop but wondering if my apps will launch faster after the clone.
Yes it does. You will see an incredibly fast windows boot time. Games will load much faster and so will apps, but small apps, you won't notice a difference.
What happens to the files or apps installed in hdd after migrating my os to ssd? Will i able to open them? I just wanted fast boot hehe.
bro, is it worth upgrading m2.nvme vs m2.ssd ? I mean will there be a difference for wind 10 booting and use or both are same ? Please help.
Hey when I hit finish it wants me to buy it I don’t know what to do
Can we just install the nvme inside and clone HDD to nvme right there? Then restart change boot drive.. and format the HDD.. without using usb or other thing???
