Thank you for answering my question about adding humour - it is a massive help and refocusing on thinking about 'how is this character funny' is a much better approach for me. Brilliant AM(A)A as always!
Are stories worth selling in an option? If it takes off you will no longer receive any royalties. Also after they give you the story back and don’t buy it, are you free to make it and receive all the royalties?
Sorry, I don't understand this one. "Stories" meaning short stories, fiction to read? Or do you mean selling a story to someone else who writes it? Let me know.
I find irony, relatability, self-deprecation, and absurdity funny. That's how I make people laugh irl, maybe I need to find ways to apply it to my writing
Maybe think about an actor who is a comedian when writing funny dialog? How would Jim Carrey or Jerry Seinfeld speak out your funny/humoristic dialog? The reader wont know who you thought of when you wrote
If you can do it in life, then you can do it on the page - it sounds like you're just self-conscious or lack confidence. Just try to make it funny to YOU, and see how it works when people read it. Experiment with styles, see how they play.
I discovered you recently, and this is such gold. It’s clear you really honed your craft, and you’re making a body of work here that I think you can be proud of and will help others way into the future. I watch these for general development, and I didn’t study writing - I did visual arts. But some of the ideas you mention are really useful for bridging across from the lessons I learned in that. “Develop forms using what you have” - that’s a limited colour palette. “Character being a process of selection” - in painting that’s the physical frame. So some of what you say is familiar, and some is excellently new. Your use of character to find action, and action to find character - amazing. You said that was a secret of yours, and thanks for sharing, it’s a gift to us. Have you thought about doing some TH-cam shorts - things that get straight to the point and are a bit more likely to grab new people? I don’t want to sway you at all, because you’re putting out excellent thoughts and that’s the main thing. Just trying to think how you could get more people interested, and I’m thinking that for catching new people passing by, a livestream like this may not be that eye catching / may be intimidating to get into. maybe making it more eye catching in thumbnail or title, or doing some shorts to introduce passers by to your content would be the way to go. I’m not sure, I haven’t seen all the rest of your channel. Anyway, wish you the best! Thanks for the work!

Is making art like talking under water? For me it has been. Coming up with an idea so brilliant and crystal clear in your head, that your whole body just smiles with excitement, but the second it touches paper, it suddenly becomes muffled and oddly distorted. It doesn’t have to be perfect right away. Write it down anyway. Organize your self and your process and work thru it. Ask questions. You’ll get there. Or maybe end up in a nice neighborhood next to it. I didn’t fully appreciate this or knew how to get past “ The instant perfection syndrome ” before tuning in to your channel. Thank you so much for your fantastic sessions/lessons! They have made a huge impact on my work and my approach to making art. In short. Yes, I’m aware it’s a bit too late for that. What I’m trying to say is: Thank you! We can’t wait to pick your brain next week.
I'm so very glad that my videos have been helpful. It sounds to me like you have a lot of creative energy and you're getting a very good sense of how to keep exploring it!
Dammit I just missed the live but I've been wanting to ask about the rewrite process? You helped me write my first full screenplay by allowing me to look over your shoulder for the process but I missed the rewrite section Any advice or plans to make a video on it? Thanks a bunch! You're a great teacher and I am grateful for all of your knowledge
Actually, every"Step By Step" episode after #108 is doing rewrites! So there's plenty of talk about it then. But yes, I am working on a rewrite video, alas it'll be a few months I think before I have finished it. Until then - check out the Step By Steps.

So glad you liked it!
Thanks for this video! Learned and refreshed a lot. And yes, a couple of thoughts about the rewrite process some day would be great!
Working on it!

Maybe some people don’t really want to write or to get the “best” story possible using ai to enhance their story for the coin?
The one thing I know is: there's a lot of different reasons people do stuff, and pretty much anything is possible :)

Yes - if that works for you, why haven't you tried it in scripts?
Writing humor is so hard--and I'm a funny person! Can always make people laugh irl, but I have no idea how to do it in writing

@@GRORGvideot Yes, I agree, this is a good technique to try.
