It is seriously not advised though.
You're probably right. Although I've had some advice from my friend Dana right after this video was filmed which was very encouraging. Her advice was with aracaris but thankfully they aren't much different to the big toucans.

When I said it was not advised, I mean it is not advised for the general public. Not for a person to know what they are doing. Even people who might have the best intention when they want to rehome a creature may actually be doing a mistake. An exotic creature should be in a professional's hands only. Please stay safe and healthy, and don't forget to wash your hands very well. I know that lockdowns can tend to have rise with temperament and impatience, so please take care of yourself first. ✌

I was thinking the same thing - I gave my cats places they could retreat to when they'd had enough of getting to know each other.
That gap at the top would be a good place to sacrifice a towel (holes in it so you can zip tie it to the bars) and just hide that top perch for their little break rooms.
@@chellesama8256 yep. Alot of aninals need a safe space they can hide in without being disturbed. Especially cats. Most ppl get cats and the cats attack them since they have no place to hide.
I always feel a little bad that Toupac is so chill that Maeve steals all his attention. He's such a sweetie.

I personally would love it but I would also be scared for my life. I had parrots for many years (around 40 of them) & dang even with those tiny beaks they could do so much harm... I bled a few times. THIS? hide your fingers & wear a helmet😬

I think the little gap is perfect honestly; it gives them JUST enough space to properly smell each other and fence without any risk of body injuries.

Beatrix out with everyone was SIGNIFICANTLY faster than I expected.

Simple rules to follow with all flock species.
No judgements-we all learn as we go along
1: Never introduce a established flock by allowing the dominates to bang on the new comers cage. You are asking for ALL aggression from both sides. Flock is protecting established territory and the caged bird is protecting his small safe space.
2. DISSOLVE the familiar wanted social territory and completely rearrange social area while out of sight of the birds. (I'm not kidding-new pillows shift furniture-new EVERYTHING) nothing your two flock birds remember as "theirs"
3. REINTRODUCE ON EQUAL TERMS. All three can now be introduced to explore this new area as EQUALS in this new "unchartered" land together! No 1 bird owns this space now.
4. EXPLORE!! This new exciting land can now be approached as a team. All 3 nervous, excited, bonding together in the brave new planet they all 3 mysteriously landed on together from the "spaceship " in the other room.
5. MONITOR: to ensure "buddy relationships" are not re-established in the adventurous quest and separate the two previous birds (keeping them in the same space uncaged ) if they show signs of teaming up again.
Sounds oh-so-dramatic. But this is how all flock birds bond in the wild.
Your job is just to recreate it. Good luck! They look fantastic!
Don't forget that she has never been in a flock before, would this not affect her ability to fall into normal flock behaviour?
@@group555_ Certain instincts species have will remain even if not kept with another of their species. And example: Indian Ringnecks are by flock nature high strung & nervous. This is an adaptation that allows them to fly quickly away from danger in the flock to avoid being eaten.
In certain degrees of high or low, that nervousness remains with them even if with a sole owner & no ringneck buddies.
Lots of excitement at your place! Getting them familiar with each other from a distance is the best way to start. You're the perfect "toucan whisperer!" This is awesome to see. Thanks.

Mrs Gamer lol my bird is the complete opposite with me. I can feed it and get it to step up in the cage but when its outside I cant get 2 feet near it.
@@Soniccairo Probably because you guys had different birds. Growing up I used to have a cockatiel that was like a little winged she-devil around everyone but me and my grandmother. (mostly. :P)
It isn't easy to live with dinosaurs they are so unpredictable ;-).
Maeve's beak is super cool, and her blue eye, really neat.
Enclosures seem to be a necessary evil. You did a great job modifying the habitats.
They are. I have very small birds and one likes being on the floor and under things where she could get stepped on and killed. Fortunately, if you you treat it like their house, it works great. Just like humans go out and about during the day but need a home to go back to to sleep, eat and relax, the same seems to work, at least with my little parrots. As many hours as possible where they can choose to come out and have fun during the day, and mine go back in by themselves to eat, nap, or go to bed! My little one flies in and goes onto her sleepy perch and cuddles up against a toy, and the other starts SCREAMING when he wants to be covered for bedtime haha.

They need somewhere they feel safe as well as are safe. Have you ever had a bird? You want them safely away while you are cooking or otherwise doing something they could hurt themselves around.
@@blankpage9277 The kitchen is SO dangerous for birds! My flighted parrotlet flies after me to stay with me if I try to go in the kitchen, so she has to be in her cage if cooking about to happen.
Enclosures aren't all bad. They definitely need a safe space and even with the freedom to go wherever, Maeve still flies back to her enclosure and goes inside for a while completely on her own. I like to see it as their 'room'.
When you look at Maeve you can see those cogs spinning in there.
I would swear that Maeve was getting between you and Beatrix to defend you.

Beatrix looks so much better after you got her some proper care. We've yet to see a lot of her personality come out, so I can't wait till she's comfortable with the other birds! Maeve is a little spitfire, haha! I didn't expect her to get quite as aggressive with Beatrix as she did.
I love learning about new species, I can't believe I never knew how interesting and awesome Toucans are.

Hi! It is always nerve-wracking introducing a new baby to the household. They will work out their issues before you know it. Who knows what that poor girl has been through. She sure is looking better though. They all look great. Tupac looks like mr. Smooth. He looks ten years younger than when you got him!

Reminds me when I first introduced my cats to each other.
The older cat would always be growling and hissing even if the other cat wasn't in the same room. Took them maybe 6 months to get kinda friendly but to be close to each other and sleep together took another 6 months 😅

I've been trying to get my green cheek conure to be okay with my parakeet since October last year. They each get their own turns outside of their cages, but my conure still doesn't want to tolerate my parakeet... and he can't fly away from her. :(
You are doing an awesome job with these three! The fact that you were able to have them all out in the same room is super impressive to me! I look forward to hopefully seeing them all together with each other as a happy family!

Absolutely fascinating. Introducing birds to one another is always dicey. Their little power dynamics can get so intense, but between toucans, it seems to be way amped up!! I can't believe the force with which they strike each other. I would be quite on edge. I hope Beatrix and Mauve will come around. 2 females and 1 male is not recommended with budgies, so I wonder how the dynamic works with toucans.
I've been waiting ever since you rescued Bea for this video! I know she's still a little scared but I love Maeve's reaction at 2:25, like "Oh my gosh, what did I do?" Then at 3:08 when you say "She doesn't want any part of you Maeve, I'm sorry." I can just visualize Toupac thinking "Now you know what I went through."

In all honesty, I'm glad Beatrix went to an owner that cares so much about trying to give this isolated bird a socialized life. It looks like Maeve isn't done being your favorite birdy princess x'D she had this youthful and friendly body language kinda saying "um, either friend or for?? Be friend, PLZ!? I am friend, what the heck is wrong with you??"
I also adore how Toupac's name has come full circle with the pain killers making him a mellowed out old man. He seems a lot happier now. Thank you for releasing this content! Good luck to your everything you're trying to succeed with the toucan flock!
After a particularly craptastic day, this brightened it (even though they're not buddies right now). Any time I get to see my boi Toupac puts a smile on my face.

I am continually amazed by how strong your flock's personalities are. This video especially displays how each of them has their own identity and sense of self and each of them are all so distinct! It has been especially amazing to see Toupac's relationship with you grow. You can truly tell that he feels safe and content whenever you are around. At 15 years old, he's an inspiration really - he shows us that it's never too late to start over. I'm so glad he'll live the rest of his days surrounded by love! Here is hoping Beatrix acclimates comfortably.

Good luck with future interactions. I worked with rescued exotics at a big cat sanctuary for over 7 years. Introducing most animals is tricky, at best. I still have anxiety flashbacks remembering introducing a pair of HUGE, rambunctious, and rowdy sub adult male lions to our small adult female. It took weeks of preparation and was just insanely nerve-wracking. Funny enough, the smaller female just beat the poop out of the big boys a few times and all was good.
