  • The idea that you can sell your book in airport bookstores as a self-published author may feel impossible. It's difficult enough to get shelf space at a local bookstore. But, selling your book in the airport bookstores is possible, and in this video Julie Broad of Book Launchers interviews Robert Workman, author of Hire Gun and Hired Gun II about how he's systematically getting his book into airport bookstores from Florida to Alaska.

    This is awesome information and much less convoluted than I expected! I work on fashion and entertainment and I’m very well aware of the use of media kits and cover letters. Great to learn that it’s also the language track that authors use! Great video!

    I didn’t think about book stores in airports. Great strategy. Phone calls and in person meetings work so well even though the world seems to increasingly go digital. I came here from your podcast video

      They don't automatically distribute to airports but if you drive demand to get it in there they can order from Ingram.

    One of my picture books has a family of penguins in an aeroplane on the cover with the title NEVER GIVE UP. From the cover, you may think it's a great book for a flight to keep kids busy. The problem I see though the plane malfunctions and the penguins have to make an emergency landing. Because of that, I'm not sure if they will like it. It is a great inspirational story though, and there is no plane crash, but I'm not sure.
    Also, literary agents hate when you send them cookies (or other things) to bribe them, so I don't know about that part though.

    • @BookLaunchers
      @BookLaunchers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The cookies weren't for agents - just for the bookstore managers who do not get cookies all that often. Literary managers don't even open their own mail so you'd be lucky to get it to them even if they did like it. :)
      The best way to find out about your book and the concept is to talk to someone in the airport bookstore and see what they think!
