I'm an electronics engineer, found that you can use some acidic wheel cleaner, let it sit 15 minutes then clean it out with CRC electronic spray cleaner. Dry out with a heat gun and then use some die-electric grease.
Nice find. I have a 15 f350 XL dually 6.7. Love it. No bells and whistles to worry about going bad. I had a new stereo with a dvd/cd to watch my 2 cameras. That my only luxury. Other people I know have issues with theirs. 288k and still ticking.
This happened to me on a 106 degree day heading into Green River, UT. Lost AC, dash lights, window controls, radio, everything. After researching some TSB's, seems it is common on 2017 F250/350. Pulled mine after getting set-up in the campground and was doused with water from the connection. No corroded pins, thankfully. Dried with a hair drier, squeezed it full of dielectric grease, turned on my F350 and everything was back to normal. Everyone with a Super Duty should check TSB's, a valuable resource.
Great diagnose man! I saw your previous video on this and the next day, dielectric greased every danged connector back there that I could find. Thanks for the preventive maintenance tips bro! 💪🏻
Yes I have (40 year Diesel Tech here) I have un plugged this connector when on a creeper and the water dripped onto my face! LOL. Un commanded tailgate issue's etc etc. Very cool you post this stuff for the avg Joe. My best part is explaining it to the customer that it's not warranty! Arod, Have you heard the latest about the Hotline future?
I have a 19 f250 lariat super duty and just yesterday the main display screen went blank, no radio nothing. I stopped at a store for a few minutes and when I started the truck it came back on. and has been working ever since. but I'm going to check that plug.
That’s been a problem connector since 2017. One of the first things I did after receiving my 2018 was to protect that connection with dielectric grease.
I put one of those harness's in my 18 to install a 7 way plug in my box for a camper a Curt product I think never any issues, I did have some similar issues with easy exit crash assist mirrors and seat controls but it seemed to be a plug /connector issue under the dash to fix it I just grabbed it and gave it a thump squeeze and jiggle lol all fixed.
Very common issue. Clean, grease, undo surrounding plastic clips and make a W shape out of the connector and loom, with the connector in the middle at the top so water runs away from the connector. I bought a kit to repin this exact connector on Amazon for 20$. It’s called a MOLEX 20 PIN CONNECTOR.
I just need to start calling you Mr. 6.7 Wizard honestly, this was some good investigatory work my friend. I'm going to check out my plug this weekend and slather some dielectric grease up in that mug! Thank you brother man!
Years back I worked on medium and light hvy service trucks. One of the body companies used a plastic card that had the junction and fusebox screws run through it so 1/2 was behind those things and then it was folded down in front of the electric stuff and a screw with fender washer held it down on those. Years later those bodies had no issues with their lights and equipment but the others with several different kind of junction left exposed would be a mess of butt splices where the connections had corroded and been bypassed one by one over time. GM, Ford, and Fiat-Ram should put their light, trailer brake, fuel pump module and anything else in a flip over cover. I have used plastic sheet and zip ties and rigged splash covers on under RV or truck accessory items and years later that stuff is clean and nice under a mud crusted mess some vehicles become. The failures happen outside new vehicle warranty and most extended warranties so "not my problem stops it from being done.
yeah so customer bought a jumper harness for some reason or a previous owner installed it, and because it wasnt up against the frame rail like the oem one water got in.
Ahh Limted interior is nice. my friends call it the Boss truck! Those badges scream yuppie. I will take some xlt or heck even blank plates to cover up my Limted ones. great video Arod.
Wow, love listening to this Channel and I am always amazed at your ability to track things down quickly! I have learned so much by listening to your Channel. Thank you!
I have a 2017 Superduty would not start and shut off while driving several times. Dealer had to replace entire engine wiring harness. I did not have my truck for 2 and 1/2 months and cost me 8K in repairs. Currently I keep getting advance track warning lights and hill start assist not available. Too many electrical issues with these trucks.
Ok I have to know what that was installed for. What was it used for? That’s why I always put dielectric on any wiring when I touch it. That way it’s protected in case of water ingress. I really think it should be installed at the factory on and connections to prevent issues.
Man, it's really bad when a Limited Super Duty is more posh then a 21 Titanium Edge :( I don't even think there was a limited lineup for that anymore, they swapped them from limited to titanium.
I'm having trouble with my 21 f350. Put a flatbed on it . The first pigtail stopped working, no turn signsls or brakes but had running lights. The new one, I have running lights, turn signals but no brake lights .
I mean 20 years ago that harness woulda been spliced in a million different directions to run accessories and lights. Count your blessings haha. Also with how advanced the computer systems are in these trucks. You would think it would be able to send a signal and trace and pinpoint shorts or problems. Isolate a specific connector.
I have the Limitless Autoworks reverse light module that plugs in to that connector and then into an upfitter switch. I had those exact same issues and 3 trips to the dealer and over 1000 dollars in labor, the dealer said because I modified the vehicle, they wouldn't cover it under warranty. I literally saturated all my connections with dielectric grease too. What a joke. Pretty disgusted with Ford and their quality lately. Great video as always!
Did you ever figure out what the additional harness was? My ‘22 has dual trailer connection points, one in bed and the other in the plate area. The assembly line guys simply didn’t make the connection for the bed camera connection. My guess I would have had the same problem you witnessed had I not found it in August.
this happened to me 4yrs ago i never touched the harness and it got salty water in it and the truck was all out of wack i ended up chopping the connector out and soldered the wires together and encased the wires in window sealant NOT a Single issue since ..... :/ lol
Good morning, first off, I need to tell you that I follow your videos constantly. I own a fleet of Ford flatbeds and wreckers, about 20 of them for my towing company here in California. My average truck has about 350 K miles and they are 2018-2019. Although, I do a great deal of my own maintenance and in many cases, major repairs. It is really nice to see, your videos because I do learn a lot from them. Just as I enjoy Eric at South Main auto and Rainman Ray. And so on. However, I’ve been wanting to say something for a while about your intro, but I haven’t gotten the nerve to. Because at the end of the day this is obviously your video, and as I stated I very much enjoy watching all of them and will continue watching them. My only constructive criticism on your intro is when you zoom in and out on all the different Ford emblems. I have to turn my head because it makes me very dizzy lol. I hope I am not offending you. That is not my intent. I was simply pointing out something , that perhaps only affects me. At any case, keep up the great videos. I am constantly telling people to watch. Your friend out here in California, Ron.
You can get service pigtails for it. I depin what’s salvageable and move it over to the new pigtails and replace the ones that aren’t. I also found electrical grease does way better from motorcraft. Di-electric is made for high voltage like spark plugs. The electrical grease allows for low voltage like you get from the ms-can. I used Di-electric on my first couple and had to clean it back out and put the electrical in because I was randomly losing my ms can. 🫣
Are we having fun yet??

That’s a no go there! Excellent find!! Some shops could’ve cost him days and weeks of labor “searching” for the electrical issues.
For us Layman not yet shade tree mechs how bout a vid on exactly how to apply the dialectric

Man you’re a gosh damn master of your trade man. Kudos! Wish we had guys like you around Colorado.
I gottem coming FROM colorado lolol
If they were smart, engineering department would hire him for triple the pay.

Pull the bad pins clean pins and connectors re-install pins with dielectrical grease and secore properly = fix and happy customer 😁👍
Being up north definitely should protect all electrical systems.

Love the technology when it works, it is pretty cool, drove my 77 f150 today, simple, what sensors lol, great video sir 👍😁
Ahh Limted interior is nice. my friends call it the Boss truck! Those badges scream yuppie. I will take some xlt or heck even blank plates to cover up my Limted ones. great video Arod.
That's the first thing I look for....any fresh work or anything new or any aftermarket electrical parts.....
One of the first things I did after taking delivery was grease all those plugs

I put the Ford dielectric grease on all those rear connectors. No mods
if the pins are not rotted maybe clean it out real nice, like di-electric and send it.
Ok I have to know what that was installed for. What was it used for?
That’s why I always put dielectric on any wiring when I touch it. That way it’s protected in case of water ingress. I really think it should be installed at the factory on and connections to prevent issues.
Very good fine of what was going on under the back of the truck. Thanks for sharing ARod
This might explain the warnings that flash on my dash when I drive through a puddle
Love the storm trooper look!
I'd first try to re-pin the connectors, if possible, and then call a harness if needed. That's just me, though.

Whata buncha goofs
Looks like the wire harness that Magnum and probably others makes for the rack behind the cab of the truck.
Electra Clean from home depot, air spray, dielectric grease. check circuit...
Thank you!
Pull the pins and inspect, clean or replace.
You'd think there would be a splash guard for that connector.
I have the same truck, that plug has been a BIG problem!!
I would just love to know what that aftermarket harness is for.
Back up alarm 🙄
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod All those issues over a backup alarm... that someone dropped the ball on with the connectors.
Great info! I know what I’m doing tomorrow.
That Green tells a story 🙌💪🚗🔧🙏🇺🇸👊
You installed a guardian headache rack a few videos back. How was that connection? Was considering getting one.
Us great, we did it up real nice like already knowing about this scenario
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod any pointers besides what’s in the video. Some grease I think wouldn’t hurt.

My thought was, anyone buying a new super duty should drop the spare and look around to see if the boys connected everything up properly.
They came to you because you're the pro.
Did you clean/grease connector or replaced?
Cleaned & greased skipper
That's nothing. You should see the harnesses on boats that live in saltwater.
Great job on the diagnosis though.
How about WD40 in both connectors, blow out with compressed air, and then some dielectric grease?
The easy thing to do is put the grease on it and cross your fingers. But you don't want it to come back.
this happened to me 4yrs ago i never touched the harness and it got salty water in it and the truck was all out of wack
i ended up chopping the connector out and soldered the wires together and encased the wires in window sealant NOT a Single issue since ..... :/ lol
Even the stock connector shouldnt be there too much water in the area!
Warranty Denied.
!

Is that connector waterproof? It doesn't look waterproof.
Electricity will run the truck , however it cannot produce the truck.
OUCH-$$$
Did you ever find out what were those extra connectors for. Really curious. IMHO automatic warranty denial
f150 has a even bigger list
Been there drops the fcim and pass window and mirror 👊🔧🚗💪
How often should we add the grease to these connectors? How much do we put into the connector?
I don't think you need to grease them as a routine. Just put some dielectric in the connector and you should be fine. But I could be wrong
Your creating a mess and large repair bill .
Be careful with certain modifications.
Is it worth it ?
Try some deoxit...

I have heard in aviation environments dielectric is no-no in comms, I wonder if that is the issue. Didn’t realize there is standard electric grease?
