This is episode 200 of the Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN), a review of every game published by LJN. This is part 1 of 3, with the others coming very soon. LJN has been a thorn in the Nerd's side for 15 years now. With the sudden rights falling into his hands, the Nerd has decided to remake every LJN game as good as possible. However, he'll need to review every LJN game ever made (while Back to the Future gets re-developed.) Thankfully, the Nerd has already reviewed a lot of the LJN library... but, there's a lot of garbage he hasn't played yet to complete the 67 LJN titles released.

Little disclaimer: This episode was split into 3 parts because it's runtime is over an hour long in total. This made it easier to edit as we go. Also, Episode 200 was not made to sell a video game. The BTTF game you see (made in Unity by Sam) is just a plot device and not a "real" releasable game. Regardless, Sam's Unity files will be put online for free at the end of the 200 saga, next week. However, there is an upcoming 8-Bit NES AVGN game coming late next year, but it is completely unrelated to these episodes. Sorry if anyone was a little confused!

This is a massive achievement. The person that pioneered user generated content is still around today providing us with hours of entertainment. If you told me back when James made episode 100 that he'd make 100 more videos I wouldn't have believed you. Here's to 200 more.

He started when I was 9 (I know apparently it was filmed a while before but was only released 2004). Im 26 now, nearly 27. He has been doing this for nearly 20 years.

One of the LJN devs James did not mention is Westone, who developped Jaws. They’re more well known for creating the Wonder Boy/Monster World series.

I remember when I found out where LJN ended up, I realized some of those guys made the Smackdown vs Raw games in the 2000s and it blew me away
I was more shocked atlas made games for ljn considering they have made some of the best games since becoming their own studio and publisher

I didn't know the company who made those plug & play consoles of the early 2000's was the founded of one of the worst game publishersof the NES and SNES era. And I didn't know he formed THQ, one of my favorite publishers of WWE games up to 2011!

The fact that LJN is responsible for the creation of SAINTS ROW and all of the Cars games is truly insane

Honestly, LJN's arc is pretty much like a TV sitcom archnemesis to the Nerd for years no matter how bad the previous games are and it's legendary.
And pretty much like a long-running sitcom it loses its charm and love.

Same here. With all the hype about it being episode 200 all we really got was a episode of old footage. And dont think this episode was edited right to hit the nostalgia feels. There was points in the episode where i legit forgot it was a anniversary episode and thought i was watching the actual old AGVN video.
Playing the second level of Cutthroat Island made me appreciate the Turbo Tunnel in Battletoads.
Well, the developers (not Rare) were just robbing the Turbo Tunnel gameplay.
With all these half assed reviews and old clips put together in this episode, the Nerd wasn't doing an LJN game, he was making Action 52.
Fun fact: The "game over, man!" used in Alien3 SNES is actually Bill Paxton, rerecording his line for this game specifically.

I am honestly surprised there was even an end to LJN games. The thought of the nerd actually finishing that collection never even occurred to me!

Seeing Atlus at the beginning was pretty interesting as well, being that both Persona and SMT are pretty popular now

Old Atlus fans have a history with that company makimg or publishing mixed games, we know most of them are kinda bad but we loved exploring unique ideas amd concepts they had, they had a certain charm to them that no one else has.

I find it weird how James is one of the oldest and most iconic youtubers yet only has 3,5 million subs.
TH-cam was a smaller platform at the height of his popularity. Also, his type of content is not the most advertiser friendly which is why he always has sponsors lately. I can bet TH-cam is not really promoting his content.
I feel you, James and Mike are people who helped make youtube into the thing it is by making quality content for years. Unfortunately, today's audience and algorithm favors poorly made "lets plays" and reaction videos by uncreative young people because the audience is usually pretty young. Despite the platforms popularity now, people want to watch someone they can relate to and most young people can't relate to nintendo games or nintendo history.

@@30somethingmanchild If I had to make some wild guesses.. it could be that AVGN loves Back to the Future that much that he wanted to lovingly imitate it's 3 part layout.. even the to be continued at the end is almost an exact from the end of BttF part 1 hehe
Also, maybe 3x 20 minute part videos nets gets him more TH-cam monies vs 1x 60 minute video.. that's just wild speculation on my part since I really have no idea how TH-cam monetisation works at all

In the movie Warlock, the magic-using warlock is evil, and the hero is a Castlevania-style witch hunter. I don't think the people at LJN even watched the movie.
This is a promising start to the 3 parter. Hope the “LJN game remakes” are actually playable when they are finished.

I just realized I've been following James since I found the original Angry Nintendo Nerd videos in the mid 2000s, longer than many franchise or series I've followed in my life; James has been a consistent part of my upbringing well into adulthood and I just have to appreciate that, it's been such a ride!
