- Cleveland Cavaliers fans have been wondering when the team would extend All-Star Donovan Mitchell and they finally got the deal done by signing him to a 3-year max extension worth $150.3M.
Now the Cavs can move forward with any other off-season trades or free agent signings now that they have Spida back in the fold for an extended period.
How big of a deal is this for Cleveland as a free agent destination moving forward?
Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell has agreed on a three-year, $150.3 million maximum contract extension that includes a player option for the 2027-28 season, sources told ESPN.
The deal delivers the Cavaliers the stability of having their franchise player under contract beyond next season. For Mitchell, it delivers a guaranteed four years, $185 million total now and a chance to reach the league's 10-year service criteria that would allow him to pursue a five-year extension worth more than $380 million in 2027.
Since acquiring Mitchell from the Utah Jazz at the trade deadline two years ago, the Cavaliers have made consecutive playoff appearances -- including advancing to the Eastern Conference semifinals last season.
Mitchell had 89 points in Games 6 and 7 of an opening-round playoff series victory over the Orlando Magic, second most in NBA postseason history for Games 6 and 7, according to ESPN Stats & Information research.
Mitchell, 27, has been an All-Star in five straight seasons and averaged 26.6 points in the 2023-24 season -- joining only LeBron James in franchise history to do so in multiple seasons, according to ESPN Stats & Information.
Mitchell is the first guard to average a minimum of 20 points in each of his first seven NBA seasons since Allen Iverson. He also averaged career highs in assists (6.1) and steals (1.8) a year ago -- ranking third in steals per game and sixth in deflections league-wide.

Bull got his damn nerve to call someone annoying 😂😂😂😂
seems to enjoy spending everyone else's money and his crack on Florida's schools was ignorant.
F Bull he was talking trash about mitchell now he kissing butt.
cavs need to bring Bates up and keep him on the team not D leauge
Time for big guy in red shirt to eat more: his past words about Cavs getting rid of Allen and Altman😅
Bull wrong we have amazing Latin food scenes here
Agreed, but to be fair, Bull is from New York. He may have a different standard.
@@JamilSmithLike all New Yorkers do. Most of them think anywhere beyond the Atlantic Ocean is The Wasteland.
I know the timing was coincidental, but I’m glad the Cavs announced this on a Tuesday so that UCSS had Lloyd on the panel.
that Fan Duel read is brutal. Just sayin"!!!
Koby deserves credit. A lot of people have had things to say about his picks and the DM trade. And some may be warranted but no one is right all the time. Koby secured the best star we could have gotten and it cost a good bit but when DM signed, it makes it a win.
Man Bull needs to actually get around and try some local restaurants before talking this garbage. There is no way he's been to Asiatown or any of the excellent Latin American establishments on the west side.
Time for the Cavs to build a championship contender. Cleveland is not going to be complacent with just being a playoff contender we want to win championships 😤🏀🏆
Time to build is NOW . Literally this offseason is the most important since Lebron resigned
The only championship the Cavs will win was back in 2016 so hopefully you soaked it up. Basketball is rigged. The NBA only let us win one was because it was a great story. Akron born kid comes back down 3 to 1 to end the 52 year drought of Cleveland winning anything and brings home a championship. How many finals did we get to during Lebrons two stays here? Of course the NBA could only allow us to win one 😂
@@itchybeaver5266 the NBA is trying to cause parity so all teams have more of a chance . More small teams will win way more.
@@itchybeaver5266Found Dan Gilbert’s burner account.
We quite literally are complacent to be first and 2nd round exits.
After listening to Jason Lloyd continuesly insisting that Mitchell didn't want to be here and was never going to extend makes me now question everything he says when it comes to the Cavaliers.
Only a 2 years deal speaks to a potentially reluctant compromise
This is essentially just a two-year deal, that is actually a one-year deal. He has made it abundantly clear that he doesn’t want to be there.
@@AnimeBronx um no. He’s got 4 total years left on his deal. Fact.
Let's go Bates
Jason Lloyd going to apologize for his terrible reporting or just pretend it didn't happen?
I really like Alvarado from the Pelicans. I'm not saying he's a starter, but a hustler! What we need. I know he's short but a fighter.
The culture has been renewed and like Milwaukee, Cleveland will be the place to be to come and play I'm glad outside of Lebron being here before now that the culture has changed now people want to come here just look at how The Browns built their team now The Cavs are on the rise and The Guardians just might win a championship, I see great things in the future for the city of Cleveland and I thank Donavan Mitchell, Nick Chubb, Deshaun Watson, Jose Ramirez ect. for starting a new culture in the city that's not gone stop. I love the 216 and I believe in the 216
I cant even remember when all3 teams were good at the same time, probably never lol
Watson is a disgraced loser who had no other options.
By the way, none of those teams have any shot at actually winning a championship. I’m about winning championships, not being mid.
@AnimeBronx Just a NY troll trollin cuz and you definitely can't see the future boi boi
Adam the Bull come on man everything donovan said pointed to him saying
Earl in right wit you💯 had that same gut feeling, I’m always so in tune wit browns and Cavs. I’m in a dynasty fantasy basketball lg and all my lg mates were tryna say what rumors am I talking about?😂 when they all were saying he’s not gonna stay, they all suddenly forgot how DM was a “lock” to leave and that the Cavs need to trade em before we lose em for nothing in free agency 😂😂 I think it’s hilarious how Cleveland sports just keeps shitting on the talking heads and the rest who follow them and the stigma they put out towards Cleveland sports.
i am a Dmitchell fan where ever he goes i used to be security for him & Larmar jackson when i was a policeman in Louisville and did security for the sports team. let me say this the cavs need more than DMitchell are the same old thing he needs help and so far not inpressed with this club lets see what the New coach can do.
Cavs have some talented players around Spida. Just gotta keep improving the top 5 rotation. Cavs will compete for a title again this year.
Now off load Allen and get some 6"8 wings
Donovan never gave any indication that he was leaving. Yall are just trippin and listen to mainstream media too much.
This is essentially just a two-year deal, that is actually a one-year deal. He has made it abundantly clear that he doesn’t want to be there.
@AnimeBronx based on what evidence? Cuz hes proud of where hes from and likes the mets?
Wanna know why it's so hard to attract stars in all the sports? Take a look at the fanbase and how negative they have ALWAYS been. More so the Browns it was flagrant. But now it's spilled over to the Cavs and Indians. Moral of the story, you can show criticism and be real... But cut the negative shit. See how much potential players like Bates and ICE have. We have a VERY deep roster of well rounded players. Sure we have bad luck keeping the talent but I'm gonna put it straight it's not the living here. It's the fans not showing the support that inspires people to come here and be cheered for. Or dread coming here when against us.
I told y"all about bull Interrupting Earl the dude is pitiful so Unprofessional
You need a salary cap to stop top teams from stacking teams.
There is a salary cap
@@cevans396 Correct! They just pay the tax. Make it a hard cap.
The NBA has a salary cap.
It’s time to really go all in now. No more “in a couple years…”. It’s championship or bust next season and they need to make moves to get closer to that goal because as currently constructed they aren’t getting past the second round. Trade Garland for a wing. Run Mitchell at PG. They were unstoppable last season when he was running the show after Garland’s injury.
They not winning a ship, especially how the team is as of now. if DM dont have another legit star with him I don't see it happening..we needed kyrie n lebron just to come back from 3-1 to win that ship. Love Mobley but he still got 2 more years I believe, before he's an all star
@@Clevelandsportsfann22 That’s why I said they need to make moves still starting with Garland. A lot of people don’t think DM can be the best player on a championship team but the way he plays and the attention he demands from defenses says otherwise in my opinion.
@St0pTheInsan1ty1 I'd be surprised if DG is moved his trade value too low right now can't trade him just because some fans don't approve of him anymore. Its hard enough to get good players to play in Cleveland as is..the dude lost hella weight..and I know people say he makes too much money which is nonsense because players not good as him making crazy money too. Yes he turned the ball over a little too much but his shooting was still in good percentages he just didn't average over 20pts a game this year. Him being a liability on defense is overblown because last year we still had the number 1 defense despite it. Our problem is we need bigger wing players and bigs that can shoot plus strus niang okoro and levert didn't really do us any favors either in the playoffs so everybody pointing blame at him..strus sucked more than DG in the playoffs except for 2 or 3 games..we need to upgrade the starting SF spot and the bench or give these other young guys a chance to play
I guess jason can't use his new york propaganda anymore
Extension is just a small victory. Damian Lillard and Kevin Durant both did extensions then asked out a season later. They need to build an actual contender because right now Philly, NY, and BOS are much better.
Lillard I understood..kd just never happy where he's at
Koby is not the GM...you should know this.
Chip in 3 years. Possibly 2 years...
Donovan Mitchell 🔥🔥🔥🔥🏋🏾 lets Go
we just over paid molbly
3:45.. I could live ~5 years fairly good (get by no prob) on the $0.3 million ...ain't that crazy?!...😅
Don has been a class act. I guess Darius is gonna go now, that's what he said.
That wasn't him saying he wanted out, that was rich paul looking out for DGs best interest
Why Allen?
Only Knicks Fans Thought He Hated It Here 😂😂😂😂
Heat fans too
National media too

Hey moron, he was looking for a way to get to the Knicks
next off-season. But the Knicks chose Bridges. Pay attention dumbass.
50 million a year to play basketball.
Yep and the owners make billions🤷
Bull obviously has never been to the Asian Market they have a whole area dedicated to Asian Cuisine
Bull needs the gym really bad thats what he needs
These guys are full of crap. Brunson was with the Knicks and all they did on this show was say D Mitchell was leaving the Cavs. The one dude in the middle said it was a KNOWN fact Mitchell was leaving. He had no clue. Mitchell said he liked Cleveland and they completely ignored it. Egg on all your faces. These guys are not Cleveland fans.
@@user-zm9gj1pc7i If Jason Lloyd is the Cavaliers insider then he needs replaced for being completely on the other side of the facts. I actually used to watch every day but I got tired of constantly hearing him say he was leaving. Plus I get tired of Jay and Bull.

F all the haters
In New York, the chances that you’re eating rat goes up immensely
😮😮😮😮😮
They should get rid of this Bull guy. Doesn't add anything and never shuts up.
Don't trade Allen keep Mobley
Trade Allen and do trades from Cam Johnson, Dorian Finney-Smith. Brandon Ingram and Kevon Looney
Go away .
With Kenny Atkinson Cavs axe is fell into honey. He is extremely competent and much bigger then Cavs organisation. With him Cavs could win a championship.
Nice try?

I wish bull still spoke out against gambling and talked about his addiction more.. but fan duel is paying his salary now. Sports betting is evil biz
Bull needs to look at the Celtics current situation. just won a championship, now the teams up for sale. The question is are they losing money over time but still putting out a championship level team?
He says He has nothing bad or wrong to say about Cleveland but He has and has been.
😊 I was wrong, thought DM would leave. I now happily eat my words. Delicous! Before trading anyone see what Atkinson does with current roster. I bet Mitchell and Allen lead Cavs to 2nd ring within 3 years.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂! He still doesn’t want to be there!
@@AnimeBronx If Niang wants out then trade him. Maybe Cavs can get a late 2nd round pick for him.
😂😂😂😂😂 he’s asking out after next season and if he doesn’t get that wish the year after that and then the contract will be up and he’ll leave
