I played American football when I was a young lad back in the day. Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing got my adrenaline going more than hitting another player like that, or getting smashed by another player like that. It is intense and even though you hurt for a few days after, it is still the best feeling in the world.
Consider this too, that backyard games organized by the kids in the neighborhood were played without pads and we hit each other just as hard. I miss those days.
I played for years also and while I agree with most everything you said ... I have never hit anyone without pads as hard as I did with pads! I have broken fingers and a wrist and had many weekends wrecked from not being able to turn my head and not walking real well :/ Watch the opening to the movie North Dallas forty. That's how I felt the day after many times!

My friends and I decided at one point that we were no longer going to be able to play backyard football or someone was going to die. It didn't help that one of them was a 400 lb lineman. It was super fun but so so dangerous.

@@anthonywissell7002 I actually got banned from playing with some neighborhood kids because I was too rough. Mind you I was at that time probably 5'4" and 120LBS soaking wet.
We had a family next door that enjoyed their food. Their oldest (about my age) was a bit taller than me, and probably weight close to 250.
I was running to sack the quarterback (my favorite thing to do) and he wanted to get in my way. I hit him so hard (he stopped when we came together) that he flew a good foot or two back.
Immediately everyone stopped playing and they looked at me. Then they told me I couldn't play anymore...lmao.
After that, no kid in that neighborhood ever picked a fight with me.
It has been said that getting tackled like that is similar to being in a car crash. A LOT of football players have brain damage and early dementia as a result of the hits. Here in Baltimore we just buried a 17 year old who was tackled too hard at the championship high school game. He slipped into a coma and died shortly after. Football is not a joke it is a way of life!
Fortunately there have been advancements in helmets and technology that are cutting down the number of concussions on the last 10 years.
It still hurts like hell though!
@@Justin.Q helmets can only help so much when it comes to concussions. What has helped more are the rule changes like, you can't tee off on a defenseless receiver, can't Crack back block, moved the kickoffs up so there are more touchbacks and less returns, things like that.

At the University of Oklahoma have played with what looks like a normal helmet but inside its equipped with tiny airbags, scattered in between the foam padding. Each airbag serves as a sensor, the sensors are connected to a transmitter. At impact, the airbags process their signal through a complex algorithm devised by Greenwald. If the impact registers greater than 98G - units of gravity or G-force - the signal is transmitted wirelessly to a remote computer and medical staff receive an electronic page.
All in a matter of seconds. The helmet is also outfitted with a tiny thermostat to measure head temperature. The only drawback has been instances of concussions are erratic. Some players experience concussion at impacts as low as 40G. Others experience concussion at impact thresholds greater than 98. That's when observing the player is vital and that's when the concussion protocol text is given. You use to see the trainers giving potential concussed players on the sideline until TV cameras became too noseyand bordered on HIPPPA violations. Now most schools have big tents to take injured players for private exams.Yes new rules have helped but the helmet and the warning signals continue to advance.
@@Justin.Q you could design a helmet with millions of tiny airbags and it's not going to do shit to a crackback block because the cushion isn't the problem it is the speed. Their is no cushion that stops the brain from bouncing around inside your skull like a pinball machine. Now if you had an airbag the size of a car, it would decelerate your change of direction slow enough, but not inside a helmet. Why do boxers get CTE? I mean all of their impacts are with huge cushioned gloves...most cuts are from friction of the gloves, don't usually see fighter with broken skulls, but you see a lot of oldheads that are punch drunk. Personally it doesn't matter to me as long as the players know the risk. I mean some military men signed up to potentially die for a 15k signing bonus and a gi bill. Show them the risks involved, money to be made, and give them the choice.
6:00 Millie, keep in mind that was a highlight real picking out the best hits from thousands of games over several decades. Seeing a hit like that doesn't happen very often. Also, by today's rules, a lot of those would be penalties and even ejections.
Facts except the seeing a hit like that doesnt happen very often, that part cap. Its multiple big hits like some of these every week AND you can see how well players are starting to adjust to the rules. HUGE hits that are head out of the way straight to the torso legal hits.
Mark my words in 5-10 years the amount of big hits gon be what it used to be. It starts with the kids cuz im only 23. We was still hitting with our helmets when i was 11 back in 09.

I was about to comment something similar to this. This video was a compilation of the exceptions, not the norm of the game. It's similar to any form of morbid curiosity we all have. It's a train wreck we'd rather not see, but we can't help but want to watch it to the end. I think a better display of the game, besides just your average NFL or NCAA game, would be the iconic plays, the best jukes, best interceptions, best runs, and the Hail Mary's. In a nutshell that's what we remember most besides the hours of commercials and these hard hits.

Ran a QB sweep up the right sideline, I never went out of bounds, always looked to deliver a hit. Well that day there was a guy in front of me, a guy behind me and 2 guys coming from the side... and they all hit me at once.

I played RT in high school and I was at the bottom of a pile when an opposing player kicked the crap out of my helmet. It was right in front of the ref, too but nothing happened. It was bad enough that our coaches were on the field screaming and the student section was chanting "BULL SHIT BULL SHIT BULL SHIT". The guy literally kicked the sight out of my eyes, it was insane. All I saw was light and my vision faded back in as my center stood over me reaching out to help me up. We won the game, and in the locker room afterwards I legitimately thought it was halftime and I was trying to hype my boys up. It was wild.

These reactions never get old. A soccer player gets his leg touched, he's flopping around for 20 minutes. Football player gets his chest caved in, he's getting his pulse checked.
You have to understand that these guys are 250+ lbs.(115 + kg) and they run the 40 yard (36.5 meters) in 4.5 -5.0 seconds. I really enjoyed this reaction video and I think that the two of you should do more. 🙌👏👍✌️

I was a strong safety back in high school. Getting taken out by a fullback on an option play was always a party. I woke up a number of times to coach asking me what day it was. That was before helmet to helmet contact was enforced. It sure felt good to lay down the boom though.

My fiance is from Australia and she hated when I was playing and I was a linebacker and I dished out the hits. There is a rule now where you cannot lead with your helmet or shoulder the helmet area
of your opponent. It's called targeting and is a 15 yard personal foul and the refs deem t indeed targeting tge player is automatically

The whole targeting thing is so complicated because growing up we were taught to line up the tackle with the product tag above our face masks. I wore a cowboy collar as a linebacker for the fact of putting crown to chest. With today’s rules, it’s made it so much harder to be a safety or linebacker.

Patrick Willis was fucking terrifying as a hitting middle linebacker the first day he stepped on the field. He's a Hall Of Famer all day long, his career was just shortened by injuries.

Great reaction. As someone with 17 years of research on the topic through personal experience, I can bring some light to this. To start off when you say "thats gotta hurt"... yes it often does. Luckily adrenaline helps out a lot and you don't feel too much until later unless it is a significant injury. Next when you said it was the head and neck ones that were the worst, you are correct. As a player, you subject yourself to hits that are the equivalent to the force in a car crash. Depending on your position you may experience this as much as 50-60 times per game. In short, it takes a special (or crazy) person to experience these things and continue to go back for years for more abuse. I have suffered multiple concussions, sprains, strains, torn ligaments, dislocated joints and even short term paralysis. It has resulted in multiple surgeries and pain on a daily basis in my spine and joints and I'm only 35. But like I said it takes a special person to love it and I wouldn't change a thing.

Love those. Remember being in high school and being excited to win an award at the end of the year they called "the bell ringer" award for best hit of the year. Literally got celebrated publicly for ending a guys season with a massive hit that sent him to the hospital and almost paralyzed him.
Love the reaction. Most of the time the hits aren't this dramatic - much more mundane wear & tear. Loved playing in high school & college, but once you hit 40 (if not before) the game starts cashing those checks your body wrote all those years ago....

American football , despite efforts to reduce injuries,still is dangerous. These are 200 pound plus players running at a high rate of speed when they make contact Helmets ,shoulder pads and knee pads help but not by much.Concussions are still and issue and players still suffer broken bones.
One player for the Dallas Cowboys suffered a laceration in his spleen about 9 years ago

I don't know of any other sport that has more long term physical affects on the body than football. Boxing and MMA is repetitious hits, but only the strength of a single body part inflicting a hit (Punch, kick etc) Football is the inertia of hundreds of pounds at once over and over the entire body. 38 years old now, played for 8 years and I wish it was only 1 or 2 parts of my body that needs treatment.
Boxing is arguable just as bad because the gloves help prolong matches and increasing number of concussions. MMA is actually better than both because you usually only get 1 or 2 by the time the match is over
@@Dr.Spatula For concussions and the brain, I agree to an extent. I would rather fight 10 rounds in a boxing match than cathc a single helmet to helmet shot from Ray Lewis. I'm speaking more on the entire body and the infliction of a single punch from a fist to a kidney as opposed to a 250lb missile using full shoulder to the kidney.

One funny hit at my schools football homecoming game back in the 90’s was when one of our players (an amputee) got tackled so hard his prosthetic leg came off and went plying down the field. The guy who tackled him was freaking out thinking he actually hit him hard enough to tear his leg off. Everyone on our side of the bleachers and all our players, including the guy with the prosthetic leg were laughing while the opposing side was staring like we were a bunch of nutcases
Y’all being from across the pond, I’m sure you’re much more familiar with rugby than football, but the best thing to always remember is the old adage “rugby is a contact sport, football is a collision sport”. It is quite comical watching people from other countries react to stuff I’ve watched my entire life. When you say “oooo, that’s a brutal hit”, we say “WOOO!!! Atta boy, nice hit baby, let’s go!!!” Lol great reaction, keep up the good work.

My son played football in elementary school until we moved. I watched collarbones break I watch the kid getting knocked out so hard he had to be carried off the field. We're talking about kids they're like 7 or 8 years old literally tearing each other apart on the field. Americans grow up with this kind of mentality to always be the best. That's why you have so many videos about not messing with America. All kidding aside I love your videos. You should try to get over here sometime and see what it's really like. Football is such an American thing and I love it. Its a sport that requires team work and strategy that just one person messing up can ruin a play or even change course of game. At same time individuals can also help carry a team to an extent that change dynamic of how you are going to play against a team. We love seeing best athletes compete but we also require a special kind of toughness not just physically but mentally as well. Its one thing to be a world class athlete but its another to deal with getting physically hit over and over again and still be able to push self to get back up, not just for your self but for your team as well. Its a struggle of heart and perseverance that some times wanting it more than the other team will be difference maker.
The most thrilling is where the helmets come off. I always do a quick check to see if there's still a head in it. 😂
The real amazing part is seeing those players in real life. They look like toys on a field from that far away, but most of those guys are 250lbs of pure muscle that can run at near olympic sprinter speeds.

My nephew plays and I went to one of his games and to see him hit one of those times players like that was crazy. He was a lot bigger than my nephew too. I am not much of a fan myself but I go watch my nephews. Some of them really get hurt too.

Best part about this sport is after smashing into each other and destroying their bodies for 3 hours they all come together at the end of the game to shake hands and laugh in the middle of the field

Despite all the pads, helmet, mouthpiece, and protective gear, we in the States call these hits “getting blown up”, and it really hurts. The protective gear is a double-edged sword… it softens the blow a bit, but it also allows the person that had bad intent to hit you that much harder.
Rewatching this again and the statement "We're gonna show the most brutal, hopefully" still cracks me up🤣

Us regular people can play flag football where you wear a belt with a flag attached by Velcro on each hip. When you’re playing you go for the flag to signify a “tackle” so there is no physical contact.
Our kids usually start playing at about age five years and train and play at least through high school. Some of those were high school, middle school and children’s league games. Football is no joke here. Especially in the south.
⅓ of my high school football team was compromised of the basketball team getting ready for the basketball season. I played TE/DE. Loved it. Did some hitting, and got hit sometimes. Good times.

Not sure if you realized this, but the was a mix of Pro, college, and some high school hits.
As a coach of mine once said, “football is not a contact sport, it’s a full speed collision sport”
I just checked to make certain, and the average height and weight of NFL players across the board is 6 ft. 2 in. and over 200 lbs. That's 1.88 meters and 97.5 Kg. there in the UK. Our offensive linemen, the heaviest position, average 6 ft. 5 in. and 315 lbs. That's 1.96 meters and 142.9 Kg.
You cannot imaging the force they hit with, considering that these guys are the best in their field and work out multiple times a day. Surprisingly, some of the largest ones are also the fastest off the line. They literally hit like a truck. It's like being in a collision on the road.
The average speed for a football player is 7.35 m/s or 16.4 mph.
There were college, highschool, and junior games in that video. It was more than NFL. And those hits result in a pretty massive penalty. In college any of those hits result in the player being ejected from the game.

My 2nd husband was an American football player in 1970-1973 for the Kansas City chiefs and in 1999 died at the age of 49 from head trauma from too many hits like these. It is a very brutal sport.

I was 6'3" 170lbs & played as a tight end in high school. Our QB was 5'8". I was tough & flexible, I always had these rising passes that had me off the ground & stretching for the ball, and a line backer aiming for my mid-section from the front & another aiming for my spine from the back. The greatest offensive play for me, even if I didn't catch the ball, was to twist in mid-air and have those two guys collide at full speed. Invariably one would be walking wounded, sometimes both. Also did kick off returns & pass rushes on defense. Got my jaw broken two weeks in a row. Never played again. After the first jaw break when the zebra got to me I already had seven kicks to the head on the guy who broke my jaw & I was ejected. When I got back from the locker room I went to their bench where he was sitting with no helmet on & broke his nose. SOB did it on purpose. It was a kick off & went to the other side. I wasn't even involved in the play. F**k him he never looked the same.
Best part about football is getting just laid out. It’s honestly so fun cuz it hurts for a second and then you’re like let’s do that again.
The pads don't do alot to soften the concussive shock in big hits like those.That's why they keep coming up with new rules regarding head shots and concussions.
Michael:. People who have never played American football need put on the whole uniform. It makes you feel invisible. You feel as if you could run through a wall and not get hurt. True the pads don't do much to soften the blows.

I love the video! I played football, both offense and defense and have been on both sides of these hits. That being said, it’s not the pain of the hit that sucks but the after effects of them, like concussions. I’ve had multiple and suffer from chronic migraines and light sensitivity still and that’s after almost 20 years after my last game I played.
It’s wild because all but one or two of these hits are penalties or either ejections. The sport has changed a ton over the last 3-4 years.
By the prior videos like, Worst NASCAR Wrecks, NFL Biggest hits, PBR Worst wrecks. And Military videos you both have entertained us with. Being an American I can only assume that you must think of us as absolutely Mental. And you wouldn't be wrong lol, we play hard , work hard and always look beyond the horizon. I served my country with pride and i will do it again but is our friends that complete the picture. I have a healthy respect for GB for their tenacity, intelligence, and knowing what dog is in their corner if the need arises. Keep up the good work mates.

Look at an old football player named Dick Butkus. Considered to be one of the greatest middle linebackers in the league. Great audio on it.
I sprained my ACL once in just a middle school practice. We were doing a kick return drill and I was returning it but I'm a lineman so I'm really slow. Anyways, I got tackled and ended up with my leg at a 90-degree angle flat against the ground with my kneecap against the ground. I stayed on the ground for a while and when the guys got off of me I heard some ooo's and some oh no's. I finished that practice still running on it but found out it was sprained later and couldn't participate for the rest of the season. Which sucked, because I was our starting center and they had to train another guy to snap.

when the NFL started there were "head hunters" its when one person hits the legs and the other person hit under the arm and it felt like ur body was broken
But the took that rule out if u do that now its an ejection
I used to play football in a park with a few friends every Saturday evening. They were all 5'8 to 6ft tall and 140-170 pounds. I was 6'3, 260.
We played "two hand touch" which just meant that instead of tackling the player with the ball, we just had to touch them on the back with two hands to stop the play. Which of course benefited the smaller guys.
One day i convinced them to play a game of tackle football.
It completely changed the game. Suddenly i was the mvp. The other team couldn't tackle me at all, and i could tackle them at will.
Then during one play i was going to tackle their receiver who had two guys guarding him. I ended up taking all three of them down. One of the guards ended up unconscious and got a concussion, the other guard got a broken arm, and the third guy ended up with a broken ankle. And the funny part about it was that i didn't go super hard or anything. All of those injuries were just the result of me falling on them during the tackle..
Needless to say, that was our last time playing tackle football.
