The Detroit plays you were watching were all from the same game! The game in Philly that year is well remembered! Many analysts were surprised by Detroit's ability to play in the snow because their home field is a dome!
The adrenaline keeps you warm. Something special about snow games. Snow games are fun to watch fun to cheer, just all round fun. Even the biggest meanest rivals cant help but enjoy every play.
Some parts of the country get colder than others. Pretty much anywhere along the border with Canada. New England, New York State, Michigan, Wisconsin, The Dakotas, Washington State. So the teams would be, the Patriots, Buffalo Bills, Chicago Bears, Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks, Detroit Lions, and I'm sure I missed some.
Washington state in the mountains gets cold, but Seattle sits on low land by the pacific coast and is much milder. Technically counts as a temperate rain forest
Snow never hurt anyone who isn't alone in the wilderness or something. They aren't gonna freeze to death, it's a physical unpredictable sport. And it's fun.
The Bills Colts game that was in here was crazy. That was the last year the starter was Tyrod Taylor but he was injured, so Nathan Peterman (ny Autocorrect went to Petermeme) started, and got injured, and the emergency QB Joe Webb had to take over, and I have no idea how the Bills won. Especially with that 43 yard extra point that Vinateri hit by aiming five yards wide...
I absolutely love weather games! Every play has the possibility of a blow out(good blow out or bad blow out). These games bring a HUGE what if to the twelfth man on the field.
As a Michigander, I was in college driving to the UP up to Michigan Tech for a conference. I remember hearing about the high school games playing in like a foot and a half of snow. As a football player, In Michigan, The High School the state championship is in late November (Thanksgiving Weekend.), so it wasn't too bad for us in the lower penninsula . I didn't mind playing in the snow, I didn't like playing in the freezing rain. The only good thing is that I was an OLineman so I was one of the few people that wasn't too cold.
One year our Christmas game, in Baltimore was against Green Bay, and it was single digits. We couldn't complain because, Green Bay. It was brutal. You couldn't drink enough to feel warm and we were marching, dancing, doing jumping jacks to keep warm. Fortunately the snow held off, but the cold, wet air coming off the harbor was frosting everybody. Ravens won, so Merry Christmas to us, but it was the coldest game I ever attended. Mad respect to the fans in Buffalo, Green Bay, Detroit and Mini, who put up with it on the regular. Now you understand why the Canadian Football League is over by November.
I live in North Dakota, one of the coldest states in the US, I can’t imagine playing in this much less sitting in the crowd 🥶 There’s another video compilation about the coldest games ever played. It includes temperatures. Also imagine, for some of these teams, they come from the south where temps are like 95 F or more (35 C) then the next day, going up north and playing in snow, sometimes in the -degrees. It’s such extremes. But also the opposite can be said. Teams use to playing in 65 F (18 C) then have to play in 95 F or more. Some times those temps can be over 100 F (37 C).
Nothing better than a blizzard and a great game of football. When I was a kid and it snowed, then all the kids from the surrounding couple of blocks got together to have a football game. So much fun. A lot of teams have moved away from open air stadiums to domes so less games in nature.

Idaho here, but been to ten games in Detroit! Grew up in that city, and you haven't begun to see snow! The worst part isn't the snow,...it's the tornados! 13 in one night in Detroit in the fall of 1985! We had to move to Northern Idaho in order to find more snow!!
I grew up in Texas. It would never snow. However one Christmas Day we had a good 3 inches of snow and all the kids (boys) in the neighborhood spent the day playing football in snow rather than with their presents
I was legit at the Detroit v Philadelphia game, top row of the East endzone. My Eagles jacket was made for cold weather, it was so warm I had to unzipper it a third of the way, with an inch of snow on my head. Was an awesome game to witness
NFL games don't stop for weather other than lightning. Recently they have begun rescheduling or relocating games if the forecast a few days in advance suggests that attempting to get to the game will be a public safety hazard, but that's largely limited to hurricanes and actual blizzards. Heavy snow, frigid temperatures, or gusty wind alone isn't enough, though heavy snow and wind together sometimes is. Not sure what the temperatures were in any of the games in this video, but I would guess probably in the -10 to -5 C range (+14 to +23 F) for most. You can't get too much below that and have the real heavy snow; the air simply can't hold enough water for that to happen. There have been games much colder - at least down to -25 C (-13 F), possibly a little lower. In one game, known as the Ice Bowl, it was so cold that the refs stopped using their whistles to avoid having them freeze to their lips!
The US has a lot of crazy weather games and not just in football. Will never forget the time our national soccer team played Costa Rica in a blizzard in Denver. They were furious the game wasn't called off.
I’m in Buffalo near where the bills play. I think it was around 2000 and Miami came to town and played as a blizzard hit. We called it the snow bowl. It was great.
I played football through high school. Snow games and slop games (rain and mud) were so much fun. What is not fun is having a 20mph northeast wind at -15 and mashing your finger between pads or having a hand get stepped on or something like that. It is so cold you get a delayed onset of pain. You know and see what happened, but it's so cold your finger or hand doesn't feel the pain for about 4 or 5 seconds. I hated playing in cold weather because of that. Where I am, we didn't have a ton of snow, or deep snow..... mostly ice and windchill was the issue we played through. Played maybe 5 games from 9-12 grade with snow of a few inches, but that's about it. So much fun.
Buffalo girl, here, and, of course, I'm a huge Bills fan. Snowy games are so much fun to watch and attend. The coldest game I ever went to was in January 1994 with a blistering high temperature of -4 degrees F. I was 13 yrs old and my father made sure that we had lots of layers, hand and foot warmers, hot chocolate, a sleeping bag and were standing on cardboard. Bills beat the Raiders 51-3. :) Go Bills!
Having a 5 or 6 inches on the field while you are playing a football game is the most fun experience anyone could ever have. Even if it's just a backyard pickup game. I got to play a high school playoff game in the snow and I will remember it forever. Rain is fun, too. Just get muddy as hell and slosh around in the slog then go home and take a hot shower and get a big ol dinner to warm your belly.
Coldest game I had been to was 0 degrees Fahrenheit and even lower wind chill. My beer froze before the end of the first quarter. Browns bears in Cleveland
Cold/snow games were/are the best games lol. Bad weather is football weather. In high school as an offensive lineman, we never wore sleeves. It could be freezing sleet and we would still go out with nothing. Its an intimidation tactic that worked bc the opposing team usually had guys all bundled up under their pads lol. Hits hurt so much more in the cold too.
It’s all about temperature and wind chill. Sometimes it can be snowing so hard you can barely see but there’s no wind, it doesn’t feel very cold at all. If it’s barely below freezing, you’ll even get hot during physical activity. This can be fun. Other times, it might be barely snowing but it’s like -20 C with the wind howling and your lips feel like they’re about to fall off.
Ha, I worked a game and it was -3 degrees out with a wind chill down to -13. Also worked that tuck rule game and many other cold snow games in foxboro. Can't imagine playing in it and seeing players out there in bare arms. I thought they were crazy but then again, they were running around and I was just standing in it.

I played 4 years of highschool and 4 years of college football, and one of the funnest games I ever played in was an alumni game 10 years after I graduated in 5 inches of snow. It really isn't that bad, unless you are a 2nd team guy on the sideline not playing. That gets cold after a while. You would actually love playing in the snow!
Me and my friends loved playing football in the snow. Especially on snow days when schools were closed. Nfl is a late summer to mid winter sport so all sorts of weather is experieced during a season.
I loved watching these games. It added a whole different angle to the game and teams with a good running game had a huge advantage. It could allow a bad team to have a even chance and changed many outcomes. Domed stadiums have really removed this important aspect of the game in many cities. Opposite in LA and Florida and Arizona where you could rely on hot weather to be your advantage.
Nice headphones, I have the same ones. Don't get rid of them when the pleather earpads start getting hard and cracking, you can get replacement ear pads for them. Totally worth it.
I used to love watching the Vikings when coached by Bud Grant and they played outside. I wish I could re-watch many of those games. The field a mud bog or frozen as hard as concrete or frozen as hard as concrete and covered in snow. That was football too me.
I remember when I was in high school in Ohio and playing on the team in this kind of weather. While the game was happening, you had so much adrenaline that you weren’t cold. The people in the stands were freezing their butts off though.
Northern florida here and after living in a 100+ deg fishtank for the last 6months the temp just dropped into the 70s durring the day and low 60s at night and its gorgeous. We call it forball weather. Perfect to play in. Not to cold but cold enough so you dont constantly keep overheating.
My wife and I went to a Packers-Lions game at Green Bay, Dec 22, 1990. Lambeau field is an open stadium. No new snow that day. But officially, it was 3 degrees Fahrenheit [-16 C], wind chill 0 Fahrenheit [-18 C], at kickoff. The whole stands were a sea of breath fog. I wore my hunting clothes, boots, double and triple underwear, butt pad. Two ski masks. My breath blew up from inside my ski masks and froze on the inside of my glasses. I went to the bathroom once and cleaned them off, came back to my seat just in time to see Detroit score on a QB draw play, and then I fogged up again. A guy next to me had a giant plastic beer mug. The beer was already slushy-frozen. He knocked it over, it landed upside down at his feet. When he picked the mug back up, the beer just stayed there like a sand castle. Good stiff drink.
growing up playing football/soccer/basketball/tennis/baseball in the snow was the most fun ever as a kid. we prayed for a fluffy snow fall. the shoveling suck*d but we would make igloos.
I went to a game with snow when the Vikings still played at Met Stadium. It's fun as hell. When it's really cold, it sucks. Those Detroit games were in Philadelphia. In the NFL the second/bottom team on the scoreboard is the home team.
funny thing is, I am from the American midwest, and we played so many football games as a youth in 2-3 feet of snow with friends....and they dont cancel these snow games because you really cant cancel games when you have only 18 games in a season. The most they may do is move the game to a neutral stadium somewhere in the country (in cases of hurricanes one extreme snowfall) or move it to the next day.
Never got cold playing in the snow. Got cold playing in January on frozen ground. I felt like hitting concrete every time I got tackled. But the snow was the most fun

Long-johns, sweatpants 2 or 3 sets, then the shirts & hoodie and football jerseys 2 to 3 sets of each the jerseys best condition on first out to worst ( basically just threads from the last game) a good warm winter hat and tight gloves for catching the football.
We wouldn't go out before or after the storm we'd meet at the park in the middle of a good ole' winter Nor'easter with 12" - 15" of snow on the ground and still falling a few inches per hour. Call everyone in the neighborhood, and they 'd start calling people and by game time we'd have 10- 15 guys out there for kick-off
The games would slow till the first big hit then it would be go-time and bodies would be flying what great time and unforgettable memories ! 😁
We stay out for a little bit of drarkness that adds to the drama and we'd stay out till broken tired or frozen ! Then we'd head in for a college game if there was one on.
Thankmyou for the video 🏈😎
I was at the Eagles, Lions game. Full ski gear. Not a drop of snow on ground when we got to parking lot. Awesome experience.
I watched it live on TV. There were times we could not see anything in the first half, just snow. I remember seeing players have little pyramids of snow on their helmets, it was falling so fast. Brent Celek gave up a TD to end the guy. Freaking loved that guy.
From Michigan and the weather is just starting to turn, some of us love it. Acclimated all my life and if you dress right the crisp air just feels so good.
I love fall and winter. Grew up where all 4 seasons occur. Dress right in winter and you’re good to go or stay home and cozy. I could not live as happily where it’s warm year round.
@@teresas8173 Forgot about the cozy effect, snuggled into a blanket on the couch or bed reading a book is so comfortable.
The snow bowl (Philly V Detroit) was one of the best football game I've ever seen!
You'd be surprised how warm you stay. In addition, in these modern times, a lot of teams have sideline heaters... even some high schools.
Meanwhile my school had a neglected cinder track around the football field and teachers put on part time because we couldnt afford paying every teacher full time
The Detroit plays you were watching were all from the same game!
Seattle doesn't get much snow. And, yeah, you missed Minnesota.
Washington state in the mountains gets cold, but Seattle sits on low land by the pacific coast and is much milder. Technically counts as a temperate rain forest
The players are become little boys loving to play in rain and snow slipping and sliding in it
They are some of the funnest games to watch
Snow never hurt anyone who isn't alone in the wilderness or something. They aren't gonna freeze to death, it's a physical unpredictable sport. And it's fun.
The Bills Colts game that was in here was crazy. That was the last year the starter was Tyrod Taylor but he was injured, so Nathan Peterman (ny Autocorrect went to Petermeme) started, and got injured, and the emergency QB Joe Webb had to take over, and I have no idea how the Bills won. Especially with that 43 yard extra point that Vinateri hit by aiming five yards wide...
that;s when it's the most fun to play
I absolutely love weather games! Every play has the possibility of a blow out(good blow out or bad blow out). These games bring a HUGE what if to the twelfth man on the field.
Snow games are the best.😃
loved playing football in the snow, rain and ice.
This is how FOOTBALL FANS embrace the moment!!! EEEEE-HAAAAW!!!!
I live in North Dakota, one of the coldest states in the US, I can’t imagine playing in this much less sitting in the crowd 🥶
There’s another video compilation about the coldest games ever played.
I played football in the snow once. It was amazing 😊
The Ice Bowl in the 1960s. Legendary.
as a native arizonan, it's so nice to see all the comments about how fun this is cause i admit at first i was like "omg they must hate that" so it's nice to know that they probably dont :D
Went to a game that was -7 F (-17 F wind-chill) and one where we sat in 6 inches of snow over the last couple years. They're actually more fun.
The many memories of playing football as a kid on ice, and snow in Michigan. It's part of a right of passage, at home football is not just a game "It's a religion"!
The first snow game I watched was the "Ice Bowl". Green Bay against the Cowboys. That last drive of Green Bay was a heartbreaker.
The funniest touchdown celebrations is a good one to react to.
It takes extra fortitude but nothing more fun than a mud or snow game.
!!!!GO BILLS!!!! love the snow bowls
They were furious the game wasn't called off.
i can understand costa ricans not being fond of that lol
and also why the americans didn't mind it at all 😂
Why was a football match scheduled in Denver? They get freak snowstorms all the time due to being so close to the mountains.
I’m in Buffalo near where the bills play. I think it was around 2000 and Miami came to town and played as a blizzard hit. We called it the snow bowl. It was great.
Shady balls out in the snow. That Philly, Detroit game was wild.
I love how much of this is Buffalo Bills games - we're about to get our first snowstorm of the year this weekend. It's... an experience.
The show must go on!
New Subscriber here. From Detroit Michigan . We really enjoy a fun loving gent with a sense of humor from a friendly country. 🎉. You are a breathe of fresh air.
Thunder snow is a winter time snow storm with thunder and lightning ! It's kind of rare but, it's well worth the experience.
I was at the game in the first clip in Philadelphia. One of the best days of my life, not sure I’ve ever had more fun!!
I was at all these Buffalo games. most were not that cold because the winds weren't so bad. super fun games.
Loved watching your reactions. Big hi from Florida
There is no better time than a snow game, had the pleasure once
Nice headphones, I have the same ones. Don't get rid of them when the pleather earpads start getting hard and cracking, you can get replacement ear pads for them. Totally worth it.
Yep, had them for about 7 years. Replaced the pads, I'm trying the memory foam pads very nice so far.
Snow games are the best!
I’m pretty much a strictly hockey girl but I’ll admit that these snow games look like a lot of fun 😀
Now, that's fun! In fact, It's a blast!
My Dad played football in high school and he said this was his favorite weather to play in!
It’s the most fun. Football in the snow is the best. The best part is hitting the ground doesn’t hurt as much lol
I used to love watching the Vikings when coached by Bud Grant and they played outside. I wish I could re-watch many of those games. The field a mud bog or frozen as hard as concrete or frozen as hard as concrete and covered in snow. That was football too me.
I love weather games because it shows who’s the better coaching team and who is the better players
I played many rugby games in college in western Pa in the snow, sleet and freezing rain.
I remember when I was in high school in Ohio and playing on the team in this kind of weather. While the game was happening, you had so much adrenaline that you weren’t cold. The people in the stands were freezing their butts off though.
Those are the best games to go to in the snow, especially when they come up from the south.
Rain, hail or snow, *the game must go on* . Cheers🍷
funny thing is, I am from the American midwest, and we played so many football games as a youth in 2-3 feet of snow with friends....and they dont cancel these snow games because you really cant cancel games when you have only 18 games in a season. The most they may do is move the game to a neutral stadium somewhere in the country (in cases of hurricanes one extreme snowfall) or move it to the next day.
Snow football is its pinnacle. When it snows, that's when everyone comes out to play.
Never got cold playing in the snow. Got cold playing in January on frozen ground. I felt like hitting concrete every time I got tackled. But the snow was the most fun
