- The true final boss battle against Culex 3D in Super Mario RPG Remake for the Nintendo Switch. This is by far the hardest boss in the game, having many insta-death attacks and being able to deal ludicrous amounts of damage.

For anyone wondering why Culex became a 3D character on his rematch, is becuase the joke is that he is from another dimension, the Final Fantasy dimension and that he is LITERALLY a 2D character.
So in his rematch he becomes WAY more powerful beccause he is now 3D
And no is not a reference for how final fantasy games are 3D now, because every game is 3D now

@69metersbelow25 you'll have to rematch 5 or 6 bosses, talk to the tadpole sage and he'll tell you which bosses need to be beaten. Then, talk to Johnny after beating everyone and you'll get the stone for this Culex

I beat this battle by keeping my party alive as much as possible. I swapped knocked out party members back into the party so peach can revive them. I always group hugged or used a drink before meteor. When the crystals were dead, I swapped peach out of the party before Culex used Final Claw, so peach would be alive to revive whoever got knocked out. Peach had lazy shell armour and safety ring so she was very protected against attacks.
They even remade the Final Fantasy 4 boss theme just for the remake 😭❤
I expected them to scrap the FF4 theme due to copyright stuff. The fact that they kept it in tells you Nintendo was hella dedicated to making this remake as faithful to the original as they possibly could.
FF4 is known as FFII in Japan. Just clarifying this for anyone seeing this comment before flame wars start.
I think that the FF II was in USA and not in Japan, all FF were launch in Japan and not in USA.

At least they kept his intro dialogue from the Japanese version of the OG game into the remake.

Interesting. Meteor Blast and Meteor are 2 entirely separate moves. Meteor Blast does damage to your whole party while Meteor is instant death if HP isn't maxed out
Meteor is actually a fixed move that always sets the party’s health to 1 more akin to heartless angel from final fantasy 6. Well the one at the beginning is like that, the countdown one though is mainly a high damage dealer

So essentially Darkest Lord's phase 2 attack but worse

I'm just saying I had more trouble with Booster. That shit was just pure luck.
i had the opposite way boster was ez to me because i gave geno the feather and geno whirled the snifiets and then just spam attacks
Oh my god, I'm with you there. That Booster Engine 23 fight was *so* frustrating.
I think this is a reference to Final Fantasy games where transition 3D in certain video game consoles like the DS.

It's not easy, you need to be good at timing attacks that can be defended against, especially the 1-hit KO ones.
You need to be at full health once Culex reaches 0, otherwise he one-shots you.
Kill the yellow, green, red & blue crystals in that order.
Peach only needs to heal if low on HP, otherwise use energizers and bracers to buff or fire, ice, rock candy to deal damage.

Red crystal is immune to fire damage, which Geno Flash is counted as.
what accessories did you put where? I still dont understand how meteor works
Meteor does (Max HP - 1) damage to everyone. If you're full HP, it leaves you 1HP, any less and thar character dies. Keep your HP at full when starting the battle and whenever his countdown to Meteor hits.

I mean that's a semantic argument. Technically if you fight him you necessarily must have beaten all other bosses, including Smithy, so in a literal sense, he is the final boss of Super Mario RPG (2023).
The reason people say Smithy is the final boss is because his defeat marks the end of the narrative, which is true, but it doesn't delegitamise Culex 2 in 3D's claim to that title.
@@TorrentialStardust has it right. For all purposes, EVERY fight precedes 3D Culex. So he is the final boss fight you can ever do. It's semantical in the most correct fashion.

This the rematch of the boss fight, the first time you fight him he is 2D
Culex 2D is still in the game, with the same attacks and same sprite.
Culex 3D is an even more powerful version of him.
