Old maglites are EMP proof too. Don't forget that when you play with your LED drivers mate. I still have several in all different shapes and sizes. Keep a stock of alkaline batteries just in case the chargers for lithium batteries succumb to whatever the future holds in store for us all. Really enjoying your videos. Keep up the good work brother.

I'm gonna have to drop you a message. Also UK based and a maglite fan. Have numerous and have done various mods, including 3 of the 5000 lumen drop ins from Matt at Lumencraft. Most recent have also converted a new ML150 to use standard Lion 26650 cells instead of the stock Lifepo4 pack.

I have still got a 2D fat barrel ,one of their first models! Have had a few over the years .the Mag charger bulbs get so hot, hence the metal reflectors and real glass lenses.
The black hole was a design feature for helping with police work protecting eyes when shining on suspects, etc. Have always loved mags and also Streamlight sl20s these were US police issue as well . Must break a mag out?
Unbelievable but Maglite still make incandescent torches!

I really like maglites. I have a few and they're well made. There are brighter torches but maglite are made to last. My 1st Maglite (2d incandescant) still going strong after 20 years on its original bulb.
They're comfy to carry and durable.
But most importantly? They look cool

Those bi-pin bulbs with adapter are also called t1.5. So you can look for that. The streamlight TL-3 bulb works in those and should work well with your seven eneloops. I’m running a custom bulb from a guy named Tad. But he’s been out of business for a few years. It’s about 30% brighter than the one you’re using. I currently have one in a 3C, running on 2 18650s, with an aluminum reflector and glass lens

the _chloride_ batteries in my 3d mag finally went out. _(I have the old one that still uses fully self-contained lightbulbs instead of the new xenon heads)_
So I went and got some gold eveready alkalines from a random dollar store aaaAAAND! ... The old 3D mag is as bright as a modern 2022 Xenon-bulb 2AA Mini-Mag! xD
Correction: at full spread(width?) it actually _visibly_ looks 2 or 3 times brighter than the mini-mag though so it actually might be a significant amount brighter by many times.
I reaaally wanna try a modern xenon bulb in it now :D
Also, the 2$ Eveready dollar-store batteries weigh twice as much as the old D-cell chloride batteries that were in the 3-D mag when I got it

A stock 3D Krypton bulb is great when hit with fresh Alkalines. As for the Xenons, I don't like the Bi-pins aka Magnum Star II. If you can get yourself a Magnum Star I which are PR bulbs, they may be the best Maglite bulbs. I've never tried them though.
I have some 7.2 V 1.2A and 1.8A Xenons which are pretty good too.

Surefire seems to end up replacing MagLite in the UK.

Uhhh, Halogens create NASTY artifacts due to the shape of the bulb/capsule. Maybe you could diffuse the bulb with sandpaper, but this may damage the Bulb effecting the Halogen cycle.
