I give the E9R a pretty good grade as far as a fighting flashlight. The size is on the large end of everyday carry and the small end of duty, which is actually my preference. I feel very confident in the grip and the modes suit my needs.

I tactically enjoyed it, It's very tactically good

Quantum, maaan...QUANTUM!! (◍Ő◡Ő)💅🏻
When I was a Ranger, a tactical flashlight had a red lens because tactical meant dark and quiet as if behind enemy lines. “Going tactical “ means quitting all non-essential noise, smell, or light. A tactical road March was one in battle uniform with full battle equipment (less ammunition).
Along with the red lights .For me it was driving off road , tough terrain,no lights,in a Jeep
.Now it's wearing 511pants at the range.
When in a home or on the street, its meant to blind a potential attacker. Strobes and such, plus a good hand-to-hand impact tool.
I've heard rangers say that patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter, any truth to that?
Thrunite comes with a very aggressive removable bezel and a red filter
I love watching these videos. They start out informative and quickly devolve into utter ridiculosity.
That's a word, right?
Ridiculosity? I've always thought it was Ridiculousitivity.
"Flash, bash and dash" Sounds like a solid plan to me 🤷♂️😂
😂
Yeah I bet it does weirdo
@NicholasLopez-r5j get off the horse, it's not reddit.😂
Sounds like the perfect plan to create a single mother lol 😂
I've used an E9R for everyday carry for about a year and a half! It's a great light. Really bright and sturdy, and makes a great handle for my keychain. I haven't misplaced my keys since.
🤣
How do you carry? Isn’t it a tad large?
@@brucewayneissupermanquinn601 Cargo pant side pocket
@@brucewayneissupermanquinn601 Alternately, you could clip it to the inside of your waistband.
With batteries and flashlights it's very simple:
if you use it regularly -> rechargeable battery
if you put it somewhere and leave it there for months or years and just want to make sure it just works -> non-rechargeable battery
When I saw the quantum "tactical flashlight" at harbor freight I bought it because it made me think of this vid. Ended up carrying it so much I went back and got a holster and edc it. Best 10 bucks I've ever tactically spent
Oh thank goodness this came out. I was recently jumped by 3 guys outside my house the other night, and I broke 7 of the tactical flashlights I keep on my person at all times just taking out the first 2 guys.
I think you got isekaied into this world sometime after that
Did find the ones you threw?
You carry 7 fucking flashlights lol 🤣 wtf
Mike is really out here just giving out free diamonds like "hit hit, get to my other shit" in the middle of an already fantastic video.
I realized after that I actually went kinda deep in this one in actual application.
Interesting Video, thank you!
I would like to add the following thought:
Head wounds, especially the forehead, temple, eyebrows and top of the skull, bleed quite heavily.
If the blood flows into the eyes, it can severely limit an attacker's vision. This also reduces the ability to attack.
Depending on the crime being defended, DNA traces will stick to the flashlight after a good hit, which can make it easier to identify the attacker afterwards.
This can be of some relevance in cases of attempted rape or attempted murder.
Furthermore:
In Germany, there are efforts to generally ban the carrying of knives of any shape and size in public.
A flashlight is already considered harmless/safe by almost all security services and the police and is not classified as a weapon. Even if the head of the flashlight is designed as a "DNA collector".
In this respect, I see a tactical flashlight with appropriate training in its use as a defensive weapon as an ideal and legal tool.
i bought the olight mr2 pro , this thing is like a lazer, its so bright that even day light with sun out, it works ! it will 'stun' a criminal in both day and night
Carried same light for past year--i have 2 of them---previous was Klarus XT11---carry in Off side pocket. I carry it for reasons:
This is my illumination defensive light--primary use is for the light-illuminate target for projectile weapon engagement--not strike part---I also carry utility light
1 It has high lumens advertiesed 2550 lumen or about
2 It has a constant strobe mode----which I believe in ---some dont
3 It has recessed button so doesnt go off like the klarus do all the time
4 I dont like the sharpened bezel as it tears up pocket--i wrapped my bezel in duct tape
5 I dont like that it doesnt have hole near button to run lanyard---use shockcord ala james yeager
6 Its a lil long in the pocket but workable with daily carry in wolverine carpenter pants
7 I like that you can use proprietary charge--plus pull that out and then usb it---very innovative
8 my only wish was that strobe was full 2550 but thats me
I love seeing Mike look UP ⬆️ and talk down to the two mountain men.
Lol
It was also cool to see Cliff instantly get in guard when he was flashed in the parking lot. That training kicked in instantly.
Yeah, I purposely never tell them what the plan is or what we are doing so they stay ready. It helps their training and makes for good content lol.
How to defeat a flashlight: mirror shield.
A cool disco suit also works well!
Or polished bald head 👏👏👏

Nate is my spirit animal.
I always read the manual for flashlights with more than just on/off modes. It seems like a good tactic.
I recently picked up a nitecore p10 v2. Has a tail clicky, a dedicated strobe button next to the tail clicky, 1100 lumens, all that. I lost my original p10 years ago at a movie theater. Left it in a cup holder. Im digging the improvements.
Link?
I always read the manuals. Comes as a habit being an avionics tech.
Yeah I guess that stuff is a little higher stakes.
What?? I just mentioned tactical flashlights in my video too! Synergy!
Well i talk about them a couple times a month sooo... lol
@@hard2hurt I used to love Tactical lights man. And then I lost three in a row and stopped buying new ones. They just kept falling out of my pocket.
@@FightCommentary I have this coleman flashlight I got from... Well it's been so long I don't remember... Takes triple a batteries. It's very tactical, if your tactic is to illuminate the area.
I feel like there's a certain type of person who pays extra for a "tactical" flashlight or pen. I could prolly market ice skates to them as "tactical" combat boots... Sew a bunch of razor blades into some cargo pants cause everything has to be a weapon, just in case you forgot your actual weapon lol
@@RemingtinArms I had similar. Coleman with 3 AAA batteries. Paid 30 quid for it, had it 15 years and loved it. Lent it to my wife for a couple of days and she lost it. I was gutted
The best self defense tool is a flashlight
Three things you can do with a flashlight disorientate, navigate and Identify.
It takes a minimum of 60 lumens of incandescent light to disorientate someone’s vision in absolute darkness.
And It takes a minimum of 120 lumens of led light to disorientate someone’s vision in low light. With most light having 800 lumens or more.
Most violence happens at night and it gets dark every day
More important than lumen is candela. But you are right it doesnt take much light.
If you guys want a proper fighting flashlight, get the Klarus XT2CR Flashlight with the BZ-2 strike bezel. It's nasty. The strike bezel is sold separately but it really is one of the most aggressive strikers out there.
Cracked up when you were testing it on the board lol
I have a powertac and it's really good. Owned it for over a year
I usually skim through the table of contents to see if there is anything that stands out and if the manual doesn't have one I just skim through to see if there is any special feature. Special button presses, for example.
Check out the Powertac E9R at amzn.to/3eju2Lb
Could you test punching with it like it's a roll of quarters in your fist or is that another cow tipping story?🤔
I feel like maybe you have overlooked the awesome impact of a 6 cell mag light!! My lady beat the brakes off a dude with one, that’s when I knew I loved her😍
I have an amazing nebo pal + flash light that has a knife on it and its super bright and rechargable whats your thinking on this light o ya it also can be used as a power bank when yuo are in a jam to charge your cell phone it also has many other functions and i have had mine for 3 years and it still kicks ass. And its 40$ lol
Mike please test pocket sand
can you do a video flashlight vs pepper spray
I love that you put quality content rather than BS and music only you would like. I have had an appreciation for flashlights for self-defense, but now a better idea of how to use and be prepared to use it. It would work against multiple attackers, nearly all of the time. So having one is much better than not. More importantly, practice, practice, practice makes muscle memory faster. You only have to be faster than your attacker. Most are drunken fools from whom you can walk away. While the others are the ones you were discussing. Thank you.😃
I always read the manual and none of the products I purchased broke as a result
You're that guy that is constantly fixing problems for people that you warned them about beforehand.
@@hard2hurt well… I’m an engineering student sir…
I love my E9R, I use it daily in my pre-dawn hikes. Unfortunately, somehow the charging indicator light lens popped out in the field (lost). I know they'll replace the light, but still. I also like the high lumen strobe that you can set to be the mode that turns on when you hit the switch for self-defense mode (another non-lethal option that might work for one of those drugged out dangerous zombies you see everywhere now). Not many companies have flashlights that do that.
This is really good advice. I carry one of these at work because I go into areas where I can't carry a pistol. I have never had to use it yet but I know how I would use it. I would have it in my left hand. I would blind an approaching attacker and then hit them with a gigantic right straight punch that they can't see coming. I would not use it to strike with. It of course would cut the skin more but I think I could cause more concussive damage by just punching without it. Also, when the cops show up, I would rather tell them I only hit the guy with my hands and not with a weapon.

I wonder if Cliff ever questions his friendship with you 😂
I mean... everyone just kinda gets it by now.
Cliff looks like he could break the tree that board was from lol
I was laughing so hard at the lack of warning and Cliff’s reaction to being blinded. I’m shocked we aren’t seeing a bunch of people jumping on the racism train with no context. Icy mike is just so tactical that his trolls unintentionally have some of that tact rub off on them. Spreading common sense on the internet is a dangerous and unpredictable thing, Mike. Great job on spreading the word on lights as defensive tools! I wonder if there is a legal charge that can be levied against someone using a bright light without physical contact. It is a bit of an assault on the senses and can cause vision loss. Might it be ruled assault in certain contexts?

Thanks for shedding light on this topic. Sorry couldn’t resist 😂
I think you were probably unconsciously scared of breaking their fingers while they holding the board, I know I would be. While on the chair there was pretty much no problem and that's why you could go full board ninja wack-a-mole on it. Really cool vid, nice advice on the flashlights!
Not sure if I learned anything, but it was entertaining! Subscribed.
I'm loving watching these videos albeit rather late. I actually have a very similar flashlight that I was unaware of its secondary purpose so I'm going to have to try and break some boards now..
Please keep up the informative stuff and the jovial approach to showcasing something which really isn't a funny subject.
P. S are the codes you put up usable for people in the UK?
One thing to worry about abusing flashlight on combats is that it got battery inside. And the battery is most likely to be lithium based. You don't want to form a crack on the battery cuz it might eventually release smoke and then explode, just like old motobombs cellphones. The lithium is very dangerous, battery is very dangerous. Ofc you won't be abusing the flashlight very often, but might be a good idea to check the battery after this kind of session
damn this guy is mean to his crew
I liked how in the end he just gets excited and shows a bit of how fast he is. Mike is wild tho
I do get happy when I pretend to do violence.
I dunno, so far nothing beats the M2R in terms of a ass kicking (& blinding) flashlight for me. I'd probably toss a Obulb at the bad guy as he's cringing from my M2R defense just for good measure! Man, I love me some Olight!
Best unboxing and product reviews ever dude seriously
I tried a fighting flash light once, threw it at the attacker and it just bounced off him. Couldn't fight for shit.

"I choose you Fighting Flashlight!!"
You probably forgot to yell that first.
Then you might have had your attacker almost die from laughter.
Maybe you forgot to turn it on?
bad guys watching ur channel boutta start wearing tactical sunglasses @ night
8:08 icy mike addresses the world as Chaotic Neutral
I'm actually neutral good. I edited out a deeper explanation, but the fact that it would help more bad guys than good guys is a good enough summary. Any good guys that need to know that I will gladly teach them.
We don't need the manual. That's just the manufactures opinion on what to do but us guys know a better way.
Came for a cool flashlight review - stayed for the "BOP, BOP, BOP! BAP, BAP - BOOM!!"
Icy Mike Lowkey one of the greatest ninja master's of our generation.
I'd simply defend with my fighting sunglasses
Are people actually clicking the button multiple times to strobe other lights? I’d have been disarmed by laughter like what the hell..That’s so awesome when my friend sold me this late I thought he was just kidding about that actually being able to hit shit. Your videos are always the best!
The Surefire Tactician is a great light. Not a fan of anything with a bezel designed to break skin on impact. I once heard that feature described as contributing nothing to the trauma inflicted upon impact, except now you have someone else’s blood on you. I guess if the bezel is sharp enough to tear flesh, that’s definitely additional trauma, but something to consider.
this is the comment ive been looking for. I was thinking about the importance of the pointy bezels in a fighting flashlight, and this comment broke it down pretty perfectly. Thank you!
Do a video on fleshlight next
Seems I had the 710th like on this vid. Good review from a self defense "tactical" standpoint.
I would like to see you compare that flashlight with the Olight m2r Pro Warrior.
It only maxes at 1800 lumens, but it seems really well constructed, and has a 2 level magnetic back switch that can be put into 2 different modes. I like the UI. Curious about your thoughts on this.
If I spend more than 5$ I always read the manual.
Often times for less $$ I read the directions.
As a designer I understand full well that there are multiple features, safety measures and warranty policies I need my consumer to understand.
Always know the full function, utilities, and safety capabilities so read the manual!
Just picked one up after seeing this video. Love the thing!
If it's expensive enough, I'll read the manual
Strobing will induce nausea and cause disorientation, it’s pretty useful. Great video tho 🙌🏼
It won't.
good review, and funny asf with the board demonstration :D
I think Cliff was a little cranky about the board holders comments, haha.
If you mentioned this and I missed it, sorry. Can't speak for this brand at all, but I've bought 3 different brands of mini led flashlights with the buttons on the end for the thumb. All worked great for about 2 weeks under lots of on/off use, then the spring gets fatigued and the lights either don't come on, or come on at lower power. I stretched out the springs and that helps a bit for awhile . So if you think you may use one in self defense emergency situation , you may want to keep that in mind. I've switched back to ones with the button on the side myself for every day type use and spare the ones I may use in self defense situation for just that.
Buy ones with better quality lmao
What's the Flashlight you suggest for Self Defense these days? Something you can be caring daily.
What about using the flash lite point ends to RAKE across the skin or press down and twist ???
Does the fact that the flashlight is labeled "tactical" show premeditation if you were to have to use it in a confrontation?
I doubt it unless the situation is really dubious
Depends on a country, best is sturdy and heavy non-tactical flashlight.
6:55 I don't need the strobe
7:23 *proceeds to strobe the guy... xD
Is a tactical light also useful in daylight? How powerful (LU) would it have to be?
Tactically honest and true
That's comforting no self preservation...great video
I was already a fan, but then you threw out "Eye of Sauron" !! So good 😂
I cary a flashlight everywhere for protection. It is one of the few items that is not considered to be a weapon (as long as it does not have a “DNA catcher”).
Finaly some board breaking using the FLASHLIGHT!! Thank you for making this video.. I wanted to try that myself but didn't want to destroy my beloved flashlight 🤣
If you got a flashlight that you are worried about breaking, you got the wrong flashlight lol.
@@hard2hurt Hahaha thats probably true! I've got the Klarus XT2CR so i think it should be fine.. I was just worried that the impact will crack the lens.. your video cleared all my doubts :D

Rechargeables are better than regular batteries in multiple ways, it's not just preferance. You can get higher outputs and longer runtime and it's just better.
Wondering if it would steer people away if you walk in a parking lot to your car with the flashlight already on? I know your video was made three years ago but if you see this, could you please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.
Hey IcyMike, I live in Canadia and I was wondering if you can recommend a flashlight without the crenulation on the crown? I want to pick something like this up but I'm pretty sure it would get seized by CBSA.
How many lumens to blind an attacker?
So this is good enough kool
So, I do not like that a lot of these telescope. I bought a Rayovac for $20 and fixed it in a position of a focused "laser" beam. I like it a lot.
When I was playing Counter Strike, I trolled people by responding "Camp? You mean Tactical Map Placement"
To blind someone you should pay more attention to candela (cd) and less to lumen. Lumen is the total amount of light the flashlight is throwing but it can diffuse on a wide angle. While candela give you an idea on how much the beam is concentrated. If you look at the Acebeam w10 it's "only" 450 lumen but it has 370000 cd, can reach 1200 meters and is consider has a laser, and if you test it, don't blind people with it, cause it will cause permanent eye damage. On the opposit you can have a flash light with 3200 lumen like the Klarus XT11X with "only" 20000 cd (reach of 300 meters), this flash light will be less effective to blind someone but be more effective to enlight everything in front of you so it is much better for searching. But even with the XT11X you can blind several people at once has the angle is wider and 20000cd is not bad (same as the Olight warrior pro and twice the E9R you tried here).
any cheaper "laserlike" options than Acebeam?
@@Jaburu Olight Odin Turbo is the only other laser like flash light I know but it's in the same price range. I personally have the Acebeam L16 it's not laser like but 90000cd is not bad.
@@cedricc.306 guess I'll go with the ASTROLUX C8 XP-L HI
There is even a nitcore with 4000 lumen but only 9000cd but any how, at night with night vision you dont need much to take is vision.
