I still have a love for the incandescent maglite. I did put a led bulb in one because i didn't want the 5 functions the led mags have

I still have my old Maglite from about 25 years ago, its a 3D incandescent and still works. I get that light out from time to time just to get a reminder how light technology has progressed. In the early 80's I got my first real flashlight, the old Eveready silver body, and I believed that light at the time was the best there was. I guess when a person is young, and received a light such as that, it seemed amazing. Then in the mid 80's I upgraded to the Energizer halogen, I had two of them, one with the big reflector and one that was more pocket friendly and we believed the were great at the time. We used the Energizers to run trap lines at my grandfathers farm and fairly good lights were needed at the time. However, the best light I remember was my grandfathers spotlight that used to be in the glove box of his old farm truck, it had to be plugged into the cigar lighter of course, however, only limited to only go as far as the cord would allow so not a carriable light unfortunately. Lights sure have come a long way, always good to recall on where it all was and started from. Thanks for the good video.

Yes light technology has come a long way, I remember my dad had a spotlight that took them square batteries and back then it was a beast as I remember.

Great comparison. I found 2 old maglites my dad had lying around his house not used a few years ago. One was a 4xD cell monster which i converted to use 2x18650 batteries and i changed the bulb to led which was supposed to be 300 lumins or so. Its much brighter than before, but i have many flashlights from convoy, sofirn, lumintop etc. Even my tiny lumintop with the 14500 battery destroys the converted maglite... the other maglite is the 2xAA battery type, a converaion kit costs more than the lumintop AA/14500 flashlight, theres no reason to convert... maglite hasn't kept up with the times, It would be so simple to redesign their flashlights to modern standards, put in new drivers, a nice warm led.

I still have an early 80s 2D fat boy barrel type, and I prefer these as the batteries can breathe and they are much less prone to getting stuck? Still works great and I keep it incandescent for nostalgia.

I still have a spot in my heart for Maglite. I carried a mini Mag as an edc for almost 20 years until I found Nitecore and started this whole addiction.

I remember those nostalgic days of carrying around a huge heavy Maglite! Maglites made better billy clubs than they did decent flashlights...lol! Thanks my friend for posting this fun video demonstrating how far LED technology has taken us since the "Leave it to Beaver" era.

I still have a tiny Solitaire. I absolutely love the form factor of it but goddamn is it a lame ass light by current day standards 😂. The only LED upgrade mod kits I’ve seen extend the light by a few mm and leave a gap between the light head and body. Kinda messes up the looks but I may still try it one day. I’m also tempted to get a beefy full sized Maglite for U.K. friendly self defence purposes. These things are ENORMOUS 😂. Thanks for the video dude. I always appreciate how laid back and chill your vids are. Makes for relaxing viewing. Cheers fella 👍🏻👍🏻

Yes self defense with a 4D cell, it's like a Billy club, I was going to get the 6D cell but that thing is really beefy, appreciate you my friend.

One of my first expensive mods was buying a custom head for a Maglite off a CPF member years back for like $100. It was bright for its time, but what you can get in flashlights these days have left maglite in the dust. They would need to make the switch to lion batteries to compete. 2-4 26650 models would do the trick, lol!

I was going to get the 5000lm kit for my 4d cell maglite about a year and a half ago, but as you mentioned compared to what is out it wasn't worth it IMHO.

@@smotheredchrome blue lights from leds are more irritating. I use leds 80% of the time. Other times I use my 1aaa maglite because the dim light doesn't effect my natural night sight

Maglite absolutely does deserve the hate you all give them.
You all keep comparing them to enthusiasts lights and they don’t compete with enthusiasts lights.
They compete with Streamlight, Surefire, and Coast.
    Classic brands.
And the value is always misrepresented
You’re getting a lot for that 25 to 65 dollars , including warranty service and proprietary research BENT ON reliability
