The Most Star-Studded Cemetery in Hollywood - An Extensive Walking Tour of Pierce Brothers Westwood

  • In this video I visit Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park, one of the smallest cemeteries in Los Angeles with possibly the greatest amount of celebrity burials. This walking tour is quite extensive and all from memory and myself and Paul from Paulitos Way pay respects to the many stars buried there. From Marilyn Monroe and Hugh Hefner to hidden secret graves, we pretty much cover them all. Check out Paul’s channel Paulitos Way.
Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park & Mortuary is a cemetery and mortuary located in the Westwood Village area of Los Angeles. It is located at 1218 Glendon Avenue in Westwood, with an entrance from Glendon Avenue. The cemetery was established as Sunset Cemetery in 1905, but had been used for burials since the 1880s. In 1926 the name was officially changed to Westwood Memorial Park and was later changed again to Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park & Mortuary. Although it is the resting place of some of the entertainment industry's greatest names, it also contains the graves of many uncelebrated people. For example, when Marilyn Monroe died in 1962, Joe DiMaggio, responsible for Monroe's arrangements, chose Westwood not because of its celebrities but because it was the resting place of Monroe's mother's friend, Grace Goddard, and Goddard's aunt, Ana Lower, both of whom had cared for Monroe as a child

My Mother, Holly Miller is in this cemetery, in a crypt, in the Sanctuary of Devotion. She bought her crypt in 1981 when they still had space. We're from the East Coast. Mom said this was her "condo" as she couldn't afford to purchase an actual home in LA. She "moved in" to her condo in 2006. My father has had flowers delivered to her weekly ever since.

So George C. Scott rented a house on Figure 8 Island down here in NC when filming Firestarter with Drew Barrymore. His rental car got a flat tire and he stopped at my Great Aunt's house, used her phone and actually borrowed her car to get to set. He had it filled up with gas, washed AND waxed. To top it off he sent a dozen red roses. Incredible, man.

Like many, I grew up with the Brady kids. Florence Henderson was beloved. In the early 2000s, I interviewed her when I worked at an Orlando, Florida television station. She was visiting Disney World with some of her children and grandchildren. As she made her way through the park, she was recognized by everyone--even those from other countries. When I commented how she took it all in stride, she commented, "That's how it is when you're the mother to a generation." She never grumbled at her loss of privacy, instead, greeting all her "children" with smiles, gladly signing autographs and posing for photos by anyone who asked. She was not the wholesome Carol Brady. Henderson had a wicked sense of humor and a vocabulary that matched any longshoreman. She was hilariously funny!

Absolutely. Wagner was a mean drunk and extremely arrogant. He was very possessive of Natalie and didn't like her flirting with Christopher Walken. When I visited Pierce Brothers a few years ago, I stopped by Natalie's grave and told her most people believe that Robert Wagner had something to do with her death.
I've read several books about Natalie and the best is the one written by her sister, Lana Wood. You can get it on Amazon. Very moving book, especially so because she narrates her own book.

What I wouldn't pay to sit down for a few hours with the 2 Scott's!!!! In fact, you both are so knowledgeable about Hollywood, the celebrities their lives and their deaths it would be nothing short of an honor to be able to sit down with both of you. The main thing I really love about you and Scott though is the amount of gratitude, knowledge and most importantly respect for the dead that you put in your videos. Sure, there are hundreds of videos showing famous Graves on TH-cam, even thousands. But none of them, and I mean not one of them Channel video or otherwise shares the knowledge about not only their death but their life you can tell that you both really love what you do and have the utmost respect for the people you talk about. And that's what every single other video about these topics on this platform is lacking. I will never ever get sick of hearing you and Scott talk about celebrities, their deaths but most importantly their lives thank you guys so much for what you do

This was exceptional! To see Buddy Rich's grave was nice. I played the drums for over 20 years and he was a huge influence for myself as well as millions of others. Robert Stack was in a TV show called the Untouchables and seeing his grave reminded me of watching that show in syndication with my mother when I was a little kid. Paul Gleason always played a kind of a jerk in films but I heard he was a good man in real life. By the way, he was the Assistant Principal in the Breakfast Club, not the Principal. He also played the Deputy Assistant Police Chief in Die Hard with Bruce Willis. Merv Griffin started his career as a Big Band singer and went on to become the creator of both Wheel of Fortune and the revised, still on TV game show Jeopardy. Florence Henderson replied to an email I sent her a few years ago just before she passed away. She was a certified hypnotherapist. She mentioned how that played such a huge role in her life. Sage Stallone was rumored to have died from drugs but that is not true. He had a disease that led to a heart attack. Is it possible some of those blank granite stones are unmarked graves as well? Who knows? That was a really interesting tour. It was also cool seeing you hanging out with Paul. Thank you again and be safe out there!!!!!

Pierce Brothers Westwood Village is so beautifully maintained. The landscaping there is impeccable, a small oasis surrounded by tall office buildings. It is amazing how many famous people are buried/interred in that small cemetery, and how many died under mysterious or tragic circumstances (Marilyn Monroe, Dorothy Stratton, Natalie Wood, Dominique Dunne, Bob Crane, many others ). My favorite cemetery, however, is Pere Lachaise in Paris. Have you seen it? Nothing rivals it in history, mystery and beauty. Famous burials (Oscar Wilde, Edith Piaf, Chopin, Balzac, Richard Wright, Jim Morrison, Gertrude Stein, Alice Toklas, Berlioz, Edgar Degas, Isadora Duncan, Yves Montand and Simone Signoret, Marcel Marceau, so many famous musicians, poets, writers, chefs, inventors, great philosophers - it's like walking through history.) From Berlioz's grave, you can see the Eiffel Tower in the distance. Autumn - "chestnut season" - is a beautiful time to walk its cobblestone paths. It's a very mystical place heavy with the presence of all those souls... well over a million! You definitely feel their presence, their eyes watching you. It can get a bit spooky in the more secluded areas. At closing time in the fall, it gets dark really fast in Paris. At 5:30 pm, dusk descended rapidly, and the elderly guards rang their bells announcing closing time. The large ravens "knew the routine" and began excitedly cawing and dive-bombing -- shooing -- everyone towards the gates. One raven dove low and yanked my pony tail. I felt the strong tug and saw him veer away just above my head. My daughter saw it and yelled, "RUN!!" We RAN full tilt towards the large metal gates and got the hell out of there. I would NOT want to be stuck in that place after dark. There's a definite weird energy in that place! Would I go back? Absolutely. 😉😄 I have a Waterford bowl filled with the chestnuts I picked from Jim Morrison's grave on 10/9/13. They only had a low barrier back then. It was very foggy/rainy that day and just one couple were standing there with us at the time. The young guard let us roll over the fence and sit next to Jim's grave. It was incredibly moving and atmospheric sitting on the edge of Morrison's grave. The clammy mist clung to our hair and dripped off our faces. We couldn't even see out our 5th floor Airbnb apt. windows that morning. We just saw WHITE! We inched our way to the Metro in the thick, white fog. It could not have been more atmospheric! I remember it like yesterday. We figured it was the perfect day to visit Pere Lachaise and Montmartre Cemeteries - go cemetery crawling. 😬 Visiting Jim's grave was high on my "to do" list while in Paris. I grew up 20 minutes from West Hollywood in the 50's-60's and saw The Doors perform twice. Still my favorite rock group after all these years. If Jim hadn't been buried at Pere Lachaise in Paris, he most likely would have been buried at Pierce Brothers in West Hollywood as "WH" was his old stomping grounds. The Doors' old studio, Jim's room at the LaCienega, and his favorite place to hang out, Barney's Beanery are all within a few miles. Those were the days! ✌🌼

I have to say this, although I have said this on another one of your videos I have to extend this thought to this one as well. I've seen several different videos by different content creators going to famous or inFAMOUS people Graves, and or inFAMOUS sites where things have happened to famous people around Hollywood. Well some of them are good the majority of them are distasteful, not done well, and good Lord their facts are all over the place and some of them are just dead wrong! I really do like your videos a lot, they don't feel like you're trying to put on a show. They're very relaxed, you're super informative about not only these people and their deaths but the days leading up to for instance or just random facts about their life. I love how you throw those in! And the absolute main reason I feel your videos are better than most is the level of respect that you have while at least people's grave sites. You show a lot of respect for the dead and that's very important.

Hey Scott.. You really knocked it out of the park on the tour of this cemetery! I have seen many many videos done here & they didn't even come close to showing all the graves you have & not to mention all the insigh/information also.I sure learned a lot by watching this video and especially the "unmarked" graves you showed!! It is nice to see how you took Paul with you on this special graveyard tour. You showed & gave him a great experience that I am sure he will never forget and true for many others like myself..You really do make us feel like we are with you on this tour because of your style, humor and passion you project Scott..You have taken time to give alot of insight within yourself and not to mention the one's that have touched our lives & are gone now.. It is a very strange feeling & mind boggling to look at these graves and know how many lives they touched while they were alive and how close you can be by them in death now. All their accomplishments, fame, fortune and memories and now a beautiful headstone with a special apatath that sums up their lives..I love the Merv Griffin & Rodney Dangerfield headstones...lol...I must say that you & The Graveyard Guy are the best at showing these graves & paying tribute to them. Having so much knowledge makes these type videos so much more enjoyable to watch..You were spot on about Dean Martin and the laughter he brought to so many with his TV roast.. How I remember back then spending the time with my dad watching that program. What great memories & it was his favorite show also!! You got to do a follow-up to this one. I'm sure there are many more famous people buried there that we don't even realize are there. Again, keep up the great videos and also with the "humor" you put into them Scott. We all need a good laugh now & then and I'm sure you fill that void in many people's lives. As for engraving on a headstone later after they have been placed on the grave I am quite sure it is done on sight. Peace Out & give Shady a hug for me......

What amazes me the most about this cemetery is that all the celebrities shown on this video were good kind people that I recognize from my childhood or from before I was born. Some may have had problems, but they were decent people that deserve to spend the afterlife together to protect each other from negative energies. I hope to be buried in a great cemetery like that hopefully a long time from now.

Hi Scott....love your channel! Two corrections; you forgot to mention Carroll O'Connor's son Hugh, buried with his parents...he was an actor with his dad on "In The Heat Of The Night" and passed of a drug overdose, which caused his dad to fight hard against drug dealers. Also, Sage Stallone did not pass from a drug overdose, but coronary artery disease brought on by atherosclerosis.

So many great and famous names in such a small cemetary, i was completely overwelmed by it all. A beautiful and so wonderfully maintained grounds scott, i am so grateful to you my lovely for taking us along with you and whats amazing is that i truely felt i was right there with you. Roy Orbison, well what can i say.. a brilliant guy? My favorite song was only the lonely, i have often wondered why his grave is unmarked. There are far too many names for me to go through, obviously a lot of names i wasnt aware of but many i did. This has been such a brilliant video for me

One of my favorite places on earth. When I was young, before I met my husband, I used to live in Westwood Village in an old pre-WWII apartment building. I worked nights, and one of my hobbies was walking around LA cemeteries after I got off work. (Just me and the gardeners!) Lots of wonderful memories of living around so much fascinating history. It's sad to see so many more there now. I will have to go back and visit Doris Roberts and explore all of the newest section someday.

We visited most of the cemeteries. We almost got ran off from forest lawn next to Universal. They were strict. Luckily, the lady who came out recognized my heavy southern accent. She was from Atlanta. She let us continue on. We were at Andy Gibb grace when she confronted us. Liberace grave is beautiful and close to Gibbs. Scott

Thanks for taking me through the Star studded cemetery Scotty. It gave me the chance to pay my respects through you. I know most of the names of the celebrities you showed as I have watched their movies, series and shows. I get quite upset when I see so many celebrities pass due to drug overdose. Why do they indulge in substances when most of them have the world at their feet. Maybe they have their reasons but it is such a waste of a beautiful life. Many have different opinions for sure but something inside me says WHY. However they have given us many happy moments in our lives. May their souls Rest In Peace. Take care💕✌🏼

Jack Lemmon, Walter Mathow Crumpy old men, and the original Odd Couple. Funny. However, Rodney Dangerfield was my main man. When he talked about his wife, that was epic! Marilyn Monroe, Jackie Collins, Minnie Rippleton, Archie Bunker (Carol O'Connor), Don Knox etc. Man this cemetery was heaven.

As much as it makes me happy to think of my childhood and watching these fantastic stars in their movies, it saddens me to think they are gone....😔 Movies from that era were so funny, classy and original. Not so much these days. Please do a part 2 Man as I really enjoyed this one. Take care Bro!
