I would be interested in you guys doing this with King for the 90's too. I bet he'd have a lot of interesting picks since he's not into a lot of the typical DM/BM classics.
I listened to Mob Rules start to finish on Spotify this morning. The follow-up tunes were by Van Halen, Alice Copper, Ratt, Testament, Metal Church, Motley Crue and then...Randy.
Anvil rules , Abominog Rules and Seventh Star Rules. Abominog and Seventh Star have a type of production that doesnt show the heavyness at first. However, after a few years and listens I fell in love with the Pete Goalby era Heep stuff. Anvil have been my personal favorite classic metal band for 25 years when I heard them at 16 years old. I love these debates. You guys all rule.
for me as i mentioned on show to be best its gotta be a perfect record start to finish. always was letdown by 'death of the sun' on the king of the dead record. so much better on m.m1. that said record is still fantastic.
Thanks for the amazing show as always guys! My list would be: 1980: Ozzy-Blizzard of Oz 1981: Maiden-Killers 1982: Priest- Screaming For Vengeance 1983: Slayer: Show No Mercy 1984: Metallica- Ride The Lightning 1985: Carnivore- Carnivore 1986: Turbo- Kawalera Szatana 1987: Death- Scream Bloody Gore 1988: Metallica- ...And Justice For All 1989: Autopsy: Severed Survival
DECEASED... should have been permanent headliner status starting with Fearless. I don't know why the fuck that didn't happen. I would say starting with Blueprints, but I was accounting for the marketing behind Fearless.
Peace sells but who's buying is My 86 pick too. I was a teen in the mid 90's so I had to go backwards to find Peace sells. A strong second for me would be Pleasure to kill. 86 is a year filled with classics though.
Listening to Ghostly White right now, preparing for the Children.. started thinking about the show last night. Figured I’d contribute a little to the algorithm.. Really fun hearing everyone’s picks and Kings always a blast. I’m ready for the 90’s! Take care everyone
This was great - Had a lot of fun playing along as I was watching and of course, you guys had some picks I didn’t think of. Great decade of metal, to be sure. Looking forward to the new Deceased album. What label is that coming out on again, brah brah??? 😀
I absolutely love any time the King is on, I would love to interview him with either of the podcasts I have been involved in, Hessian Firm and Occult Abyss, along with now the Bunsen Burner Podcast, I truly think he and I could have a lot to talk about.
Black Zak and I once discussed what would be the perfect way to explain Heavy Metal to aliens we decided Heaven and Hell would be the way,so when it's first choice here I know this too is the way.
Great episode! I found a kindred spirit in King; a man who loves Warlord 'Deliver Us' as much as I do... ❤ Perhaps my favorite release of the whole decade!
Hearing him talk about that album on the Metal Blade show is what turned me on to that record. It is so great! Just that opening riff on the title track is one of the greatest album opening riffs of all-time.
on a note about Anvil talk; I believe the story of Lemmy begging Lips to join Motorhead was a bit overblown by Lips. I knew a couple of crew folks kicking around Anvil & Motorhead at the time, for which they also say it wasn't really how that played out and that Lip's couldn't have lasted 2 weeks with Motorhead. How true? I don't know, just the side I heard from people around at the time.
hard to say. i do know lemmy really wanted him at the time as losing eddie really got under his skin. lips was better off doing anvil and lemmy going with robertson who was great and did my favorite motorhead record. but obviously was impossible to work with. cheers
1981... Fowley is right. ''Diary...'' , either you have run out of patience for Ozzyisms or not, remains in 2024 one of the most remarkable Hard and Heavy master works. But it's hard not to split your attention for ''Mob Rules'' (a fine record within the 81 context, because I think Heaven and Hell was more inspired, imho). On the other ranks, definitely Maiden and Saxon rule the year (plus plenty of backwater gems around the world you know...). In the late Spring, we got No Sleep til Hammersmith! What else could hope for? Well, maybe ''Welcome to Hell'', close to the end of that very good year.
My choices... 1980- Women & Children First 1981-Diary Of A Madman 1982- Creatures Of The Night 1983- Shout At The Devil 1984- Ride The Lightning **Honorable mention- Sweet Poison (Until Death Do US Part) 1985- Infernal Overkill 1986- Reign In Blood 1987- Under The Sign Of The Black Mark 1988- Punishment For Decadence 1989- Nothingface
My faves from the 1980s:::: 1980- Iron Maiden 1981- High N' Dry 1982- Iron Fist 1983- Pyromania 1984- Ride The Lightning 1985- Soldiers Under Command 1986- Master Of Puppets 1987- Among The Living 1988- Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son 1989- The Years Of Decay
Yeah... It's a lonely island for us Seventh Star lovers. I think it's a masterpiece, but I have no issues admitting it is not true Sabbath. I am just glad it exists.
again i don't care what its called. hold the beef, cow jumped over the moon, little pup going potty etc etc. tony never asked for it to be called sabbath, warner brothers did. it is brilliant!
Marty, you wished that Slayer had done another album like Show No Mercy. Don't fret, as Whiplash's Power and Pain is an album full of Crionicses and Die By the Swords..😊
80 Judas Priest - British Steel 81 Iron Maiden - Killers 82 Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast 83 Slayer - Show No Mercy 84 Cirith Ungol - King of the Dead 85 Megadeth - Killing is My Business... and Business is Good! 86 Megadeth - Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? 87 Candlemass - Nightfall 88 Megadeth - So Far, So Good... So What! 89 Overkill - The Years of Decay
cheers~! was a blasttttttttttttttttttttttt :)

Great episode, so much fun when King participates.

Awesome!! Loved this episode. Trouble is I normally make your Friday episodes last all week…it’s Sunday night and I have finished haha!
I'm surprised that neither Alan nor King choose Cirith Ungol's King of the Dead for 1984. great show as always

Ask him about his favorite Indian food in northern Va
King is always a great interview AND a great dude. Look him up on facebook.
We LOVE having him on
@@HeavyMetallurgy I have actually, and I sent him a message, I will see if my friends can help spam him haha.
@@Leave_The_Hall_69 I will
King is inspiring. I'm going to buy the new Deceased. Sounds intriguing.
New GRIMMOON album Despairing View Of Life coming 9/27/24, if you enjoy DoomDeath.

@@dannypriceandthebloodmoney Indeed. And the drumming of Mark Zonder is exquisite! 👌

Power and Pain is a MONSTER of an album. An often overlooked US classic. Thanks for watching.
@HeavyMetallurgy indeed it's a great speed metal album, musically not dissimilar to Walls of Jericho and many tracks on SNM, say.
