Maria's 70's vibe made me like her more, she was really fun. It makes me think what versions of her may come as time moves on and "50 years ago" becomes different decades.
Real interested to see where they go in 4 especially since they finally introduced a character it feels like has been teased since the first movie post credit.
About the Amy/Metal Sonic mid credit sequence, I was surprised to see A BUNCH of Metal Sonics. It's kind of implied in Sonic canon that there is only ONE Metal Sonic, and Eggman doesn't make an army of them because he can't (I think the most accepted theory is that he was built using technology from the little planet's bad future and he can't fully replicate it with what he has access to in the present.) I can only think of one instance where we had an actual army of Metal Sonics, and that's the Brotherhood of Metallix from the European series "Sonic the Comic." I would love to see Sonic 4 be a Sonic CD/Heroes adaptation, but imagine if they used a plot point from one of the COMIC series?!
One thing that could be the origin of the Metal Sonics is tying back to Sonic's origin where Long Claw was hiding him for reasons that seemed vague. It's possible that Hedgehogs were almost wiped out by some alien villain who saw them as threat to their own power. That alien could have created the Metal Hedgehogs to hunt the remnants. They finally showed up on Earth and Amy, who is a rebel against that alien villain, followed them.
You ask why only the boys go super when Blaze has been going super since day one. Does there need to be more? Yes, absolutely. But act like Blaze doesn't go super.

I just got back from Sonic 3. I saw the Pride Rock popcorn bucket at my theater which TJ mentioned in the spoiler free video. They also had Sonic Popcorn buckets but I didn't get any of that stuff anyway because I don't feel like spending the extra money on something I'm only going to use ONCE. I did enjoy the movie though. For some reason I thought that Jim Carrey was playing his own dad but it's actually his grandfather. If you know the story of Sonic Adventure 2 which ironically is actually the only Sonic game I've played as I use to have the Nintendo Gamecube version. They did change some things but nothing really important, it still feels very familiar and true to the core of the original story. That's kind of how all adaptions should be. The stuff that they changed or added actually help the narrative flow better in a movie. The only real flaw I could complain about is It's mentioned that Gerald Robotnik is the grandfather of both Maria and Ivo however it's never mentioned in the movie exactly how Maria and Ivo are related to each other. I was a little confused if she was his sister or cousin but I looked it up and according to the video game they're cousins. It's a little bit annoying that I had to look that up cause the movie never mentions it. All they had to do was insert a line of Ivo: Who's Maria? Gerald: She's your cousin. And they would have to do it that way because earlier in the movie Ivo specifically mentions not being aware that he even had any family so it would make sense that he wouldn't know he had a cousin. But no one ever bothers to ask who Maria is even after she's mentioned by both Shadow and Gerald. Ivo has a reason to ask about her but just never seems to care that he might have other family despite how he acts meeting Gerald for the first time. Also there's a 4th wall break in this movie... first the marketing for this movie is taking from Deadpool now they're taking his 4th wall breaks? At least it only happens once. When Ivo and Gerold first meet, Ivo says "You do look like me, but older, and fatter, it's almost as if we're..." and then both of them speaking together while looking directly into the camera "Two characters in a movie being played by the same actor." I love Jim Carrey, he's the main reason I watch these movies but I was not expecting that 4th wall break. I love it though.
Having Metal Sonic/Neo Metal Sonic coming from the future where he was made by a future Robotnik COULD potentially work since Eggman Nega is/was a thing, which could also allow for Silver (and hopefully Blaze too) to show up, perhaps to stop him from unleashing a firey monster from another dimension who hypnotises people and feeds on Chao. Basically, mixing the plot of Sonic CD, Heroes, 2006 and Rivals 2.
I just wished Ivo Robotnik would aknowledge Maria in some way. Finding out you have a dead sister/cousin was worth exploring. And yet, he never found out she even had existed.
If we saw Shadow surviving the post-credits scene, then that means Eggman is okay, too. Chaos Control of course. Time travel shenanigans because Eggman did those shenanigans in three games and whoever sent Metal Sonic and his clones to destroy the real one and Amy Rose comes to the rescue.
I was thinking the villain for Sonic 4 would have been the platypus who I can't remember his name from the IDW comics creating the metal Sonic's to get back at sonic for killing his idol. :Edit (dr starline)
She's just as capable a hero as Sonic, Shadow, or Silver, her character has evolved a lot in strength and maturity since her debut. I don't see why Sega leaves her as the only hedgehog that can't go Super unless they want to keep it as a boy's club.
Im down for super amy for SURE, ESPECIALLY if they upgrade her hammer. Imagine they go full nordic mjollnir with 2 handles? Thatd be sick. But i think color wise she should go rose gold with pink highlights. Not because shes a girl, just so she has visible design difference in case we end up getting a silver adaptation. I really like how they muted Shadows auper form in this movie so you could tell them apart immediately. Thats what im suggesting. Also, pink is badass. Lemme get an Amy Rose with the demeanor of Jenn Scotts from PR Time Force.
I had multiple issues with this movie. There are some parts that really bugged me. But overall, it's an 8/10. I really enjoyed it. A huge improvement over the previous films. Also, SA2 being my favorite Sonic game does make me a little bias. But overall, it was very good. My biggest issue is Jim Carrey as Eggman and Gerald. He's not funny. And I was surprised at how good Keanu was.
Yeah, Rouge getting omitted kinda sucks. Loved Shadow's portrayal, I think I might prefer Keanu to Kirk. Still really dislike Jim Carrey Eggman, I've never liked him. I think Gerald was better, though. It felt like Jim was allowed to have more range beyond "Do wacky Jim Carrey Stuff™" with Gerald. I appreciated the little callbacks to SA2. Like Sonic and Shadow doing their poses during the Super fight. I feel a similar way to this movie that I do Rise of the Beasts. I can feel the creatives who are fans working on the film playing tug-of-war with the producers, so I wind up having a lot to love and a lot to dislike. Granted, a lot of what I dislike are things from the first two and I think this one is better than the previous two films. Sonic here did feel closer to his in-game counterpart than the previous two with his character growth. TJ complained about game Sonic not evolving as a character, and I hope that can become a thing of the past, since Sonic got A LOT of great stuff in the Storybook duology from back in the day, so Sonic wasn't _always_ a static character. As for Amy...I'm of two minds. We have no idea what her personality is, but I've had friends complain about her taking down a whole group of Metal Sonics, since that was the character who kidnapped her in CD. Saying it feels like they're trying too hard. Like they're over-correcting/we skipped right to the end of her character growth from the games...and while I get where they're coming from...we still have only seen like 10 seconds of her. As long as she still feels like Amy from the games in future films. I'll be happy. Overall, I liked the movie. I'm glad I have the Jakks Shadow (I'll probably buy a super repaint, should they make one), and I might end up buying the Blu-Ray. Something I didn't do for the first two.
There is a weird continuity thing with G.U.N where the previous movie stated they were established after the events of the first movie, but here they're shown as having been around the whole time. Also, not the movie I expected to make a Green Lantern (2011) joke this year lmao.
