He pushed boundaries, and then to find out that in real life he is a rough and tumble rugged guy. They gave him this very bizarre gimmick and he ran with it. And he will go down in history. Fair play to him.
adrian adonis was the predecessor to goldust. over a decade earlier. he wasnt as big and physically imposing as goldust but he was a talented performer and deceptively athletic. they even made music videos for him, the whole presentation was kind of mind-blowing for something on tv in the south in the early 80s. i wasnt around to see it back then but you can see him on youtube on mid-south wrestling tapes that fans have uploaded.

I loved when they were the same person in an interview that they were in the ring. Pre internet I actually believed they really were like the characters they portrayed lol. Like ultimate warrior was really walking around parts unknown with face paint, arm bands, and a neon speedo while doing every day things 😂

Goldust had an odd prime of his career lol I’d say ‘95-‘96 and 2001-2003 and then his last tag team run with Cody 2013-2015. His attitude era run was pretty terrible and in TNA unfortunately he was dealing with a lot of personal issues. One of the best gimmicks ever for sure.
He was asked by Vince to do this persona and he jumped in and made his name apart from his Dad. I forgot about Terry Runnels too. I love her when I was a young fan watching golddust at the ground level. Brilliant he was on Conan. On a side note, Chyna almost killed her ragdolling her in an angle. Jimmy fallon is the only other Late night host to have as many wrestlers on which I appreciate.
My favorite is when they had BIG SHOW on. But not for his segment. I don't remember his segment. I also don't remember the lead-in segment of Burt Rennolds. I remember the last guest, which had Burt Rennolds, and BIG SHOW off to the side, while Conan talked to a woman who had a lot of sex toys. She's in her 80s or 90s, and she has a chin dildo, and she's flapping it around like a cartoon character. It's just a dildo flapping off her chin. And Andy makes this comment about "Only girlfriends with small endowed boyfriends would buy these". And they cut to a shot of Burt Reynolds, and BIG SHOW posing all cocky like "Yeah, I wouldn't know anything about that...." And BIG SHOW says "Look at my pinky, and tell me any part of me is small." Meanwhile Conan is turning red from laughing so hard at the absurdity of it all.
