The Vulcan on the shield aren't really that bad of idea, Vulcans on Gundam are usually meant to shoot down projectiles, so having them in the shield kinda makes sense. What isn't taken down by the bullets is protected by the shield, saving the suit from having to poke out of the shield to shoot.
The whole point of the GM Gaurd, is to GARD the GM Sniper Custom.
the problem would be aiming the vulcan accurately (or at all) to spray down incoming projectiles. vulcans on the mobile suit's head allow for fast and unhindered aiming; If the vulcan was on the shield and you got the shield caught on something or lose the shield or if you aren't able to maneuver the huge shield in the proper position (looks like the guns don't have long barrels, or any type of swiveling mechanic to aim in a different direction as the shield) then you're kinda fucked and you'll lose both your shield and your vulcans.
Tavor_399 I think it's less for shooting down projectiles and more about intimidating or even damage enemy MS who did melee atack. The bullets may not cause that much damage but MS pilots will be too afraid to damage their MS further and backed off giving the GM a good opening to attack the enemy.
Actually the Vulcan's on the Guard Custom's shield look to be of a rather large caliber, likely at least 90mm of hand-held EFSF Mobile Suit automatic fire weapons.
Yes, their short barrels make them fairly inaccurate at all but closest ranges, but the point is there is still a large slab of armor between you and the enemy mobile suit you are filling with lots and lots of lead.
This actually makes the GM Guard Custom one of my favorite suits to use in MSGO.
In the design sketches available on the wikia, the back ends of the vulcans can be seen prominently sticking out from the back of the shield, indicating a more robust weapon than the model kit does. So they are probably of a caliber and ammunition type strong enough to take down mobile suits. The only issue lies in maneuvering the shield. In another comment I speculate that these shields, while unwieldy in open combat, might be good makeshift defensive pillboxes in a gravity environment. Line a bunch of these side by side and anchor them to the ground, and you have a pretty good semi-mobile wall that can mow down charging enemies. The way they seem to be depicted, though... seems to be similar to how all Gundam shields that aren't the Ground Gundam shield are depicted, which is to say boringly.
Can't believe they made the GM Cannon P-Bandai, and the GM Interceptor a retail release.
And it's not even the best version of the GM Cannon! It's the fucking space type! And the Interceptor is missing the booster, which you have to get with another Interceptor also P-Bandai
The shield reminds me alot of the shields crossbow-men used back in the day. Not really meant for agile movement but, more of a slow moving wall with range capabilities. It was pretty effective, if I recall correctly.

The beam spray gun is designed with attaching to the P-Bandai 1/144 GM Sniper Custom The Origin left leg in mind. Must have been carried over.

I feel the federation suits are getting the short end of the stick by only having 4 gms and a few versions of the same gundam and most of them are p bandai. While there are like 6 different zakus that are generally just a different color that are standard releases. I want to k ow what bandai is thinking here.

I just got the kit and you can actually get a lot more range of articulation with the waist joint.
Just pull up on where the two halves of the waste connect.
You could get a good side to side bend and a wider back arch it will look a little weird but not that bad.
You could also do a little bit more with the head as well.
The problem is though that it's very tight so you may want to loosen the joints a little so you don't break anything.
Bandai successfully killed this line for me and all my excitement when I found out the only designs i'd pay money for were both P-Bandai lmfao, Bandai's SO irredeemably scummy sometimes.
Yea like making the MG Jesta Cannon P Bandai. I wanted that almost more than any other kit and I can't find it for less than $110.
The MG gm sniper custom sold abysmally in japan so the decided to not take that risk
I’ve been using this suit in Battle Operation 2 a lot. It’s become one of my favorite GMs. The shield Vulcans are actually really good.
It's sad that the shield connection is so simple. They could've get the connection from hguc gyan. That connection is designed for handling rather heavy shield and will have great articulation too.
Yeah, its a pretty damn shame they didn't go that route. It would make the kit much more attractive and fix probably its biggest flaw.

HGUC GM Revive when?
I think its just as likely we'll be getting an Origin GM (even though the actual Origin GM has a very different design). The Zaku II C/C5 was pretty much a Zaku II revive.
@@supergeno128ds I like the origin Zaku, but I actually would like an HG Zaku that had the articulation of the Origin but with simple details. That's just me though.
I agree, its certainly not a perfect match- the C/C5 has a darker color scheme compared to the more "traditional" Zaku II as well. The Zaku II has a much likelier chance of getting a proper "revive" due to its popularity. The poor GM is usually last when it comes to these kind of things... if it even gets remembered.
Thanks for all of the GM reviews, (along with the rest). Ive been buying up as many versions and practicing my scribing and paint schemes, switching to Zurc and Arkom, being that I now live in the Philippines😁 and I want to buy local. So far so good! I always use your reviews as part of my decision process on what to get next. Cant imagine Gunpla without ZakuAurelius!

The GM Guard is what I'd like to customize...seems good for that role because those sleek proportions don't really show off a tank vibe...the extra armor and the head kinda does but the entire kit seems too skinny...at least bulkier legs will be enough like the Powered GM shock absorbers and leg plates...just increased mass overall will work out fine and I am gonna modify the shield to where it can connect to the forarm of the kit...just to give a tank/support vibe to it like it should being a guard coz it just looks like another variant of the GM Sniper we got long ago like with build fighters or the white dingo version that's customized but overall it's a good kit
You can actually put the spray gun on the butt flap, u just insert the peg in and twist it a bit and its a tight fit
My only gripe with the Origin line is that for the all Gundams, and GMs... they never gave us the standard GM.
I mean, granted the GMs so far are all MSV concepts, and the Gundam DIID appear in the OVAs final scene... but still.
How is putting vulcans on a shield stupid??
By making it look puny and lacking in bite. The way they're done here, the vulcans really look like an afterthought done for the sake of gimmickry. The line art shows the back ends of the vulcans protruding from the back of the shield, and they almost look like they could be removed entirely and operated by hand. It's a much more hardy piece of equipment than what the kit depicts. In that aspect, the kit is a failure of execution, not necessarily a failure of idea. That said, the way the shield is depicted in promo pics, all swinging around with the arm just like any other Gundam shield, also serves to render the guns a bit absurd. It would be impossible to effectively use those guns beyond point blank range, and aiming them would be an awkward affair, and the recoil from them would probably be just as awkward.
But mostly they just look weak here. Very very weak, to the point that one wonders why they're included at all.
If Bandai make this good of a HG gm then why don’t they just make the revive GM already bruh

You’d think, but no, the one time we actually see the Guard Custom is in Space alongside its brother MS the Sniper Custom and Interceptor Custom.
@@Courier-gq6ym that may be but in all the promotional images for this kit the shield is being used on the ground, the mobile suit is crouching behind it in sone photos.
I believe you should keep the vulcans on the GM Guard's shield. I'm sure it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.
I'm watching The Origin series now. There are some amazing scenes that have got to be in the new Gundam movie when it comes out.
If you look on the front box art you will see a GM sniper with the beam spray gun plugged into his left leg. That's why there is a nubbin on the beam spray gun.
can't believe people sometimes, the guard is obviously meant to be the pointman on a ms team, it leads a stack of ms using its giant shield to guard the ms behind it while they lean out to take shots. The guard custom is meant to be mobile cover and the weaponry is a last resort option if its forced into combat, I personally think the design is great.

I just started building gunpla and I kind of gravitated unexpectedly towards Jims, Zaku's (anything with a similar head), Graze's (anything that looks like them...) basically the grunt suits (GNX/Tieren/Flag-Enact-Brave etc) The Origin line had a lot cool kits (ended up getting the Denim for the shoulder and Type C-6 based on your videos). On the Guard Custom... the SHIELD is what sells it, but there just needs to be a stand like the Ground type has or something, maybe a tiny attachable base for balancing like this _\ to help with poses. Also what is your favorite "Jim"? This would be mine if the shield were better lol

That spray gun is supposed to plug into the leg of the P-Bandai GM Sniper Custom.
The gun yup think was intended to be attached on the side of the left lower leg. Just like the GM Sniper 2 MG kit released end of last year.

That moving knee armor is great. Give this guy a new color scheme the guncannon's beam rifle and you're golden. You'd think that with an ab crunch like this Bandai would've given the head a better upwards tilt.

The shield is a two handed shield that's why the guns it took your review and seeing the shield and realizing how the handles we're positioned to see it. It's meant to use it's heavy shield to get close and stab it's cockpit with the dagger O.O mind literally blown by the tactics this mobile suit would employ to sell it though gotta fix the back of the shield hmm maybe I get another feddie suit
cant help but notice this model is missing the very prominent shoulder vulcans that connect to the backpack, hideous model for my favorite feddie suit.
if you remember from your review of the MG GM Sniper Custom that kit features slots in it's legs for storing it's beam spray gun. the same also applies to the new HG version. which is what the peg on the beam spray gun is for. i.imgur.com/qBDvMyq.jpg

I can see the Vulcan/miniguns in the shield as being a cool idea, but I agree, I don’t care for the execution on this kit. Kinda seems like a last minute thought/addition?
Funnily enough the only other time I’ve seen similar guns in a shield like that were the Messers in the latest Gundam Hathaway movie. One of them had Vulcans in the shield and was shown using them to shoot down incoming missiles at one point, but the HG kit doesn’t have any molded/any kind of detail for them in the shield lol.
Shield design is meant to be held closer to the arm and body, not held outward like smaller shields.

The kit is beautiful and really fun to put together but The Joint plastic feels very soft and buttery. If it wasn't the joint plastic I would have different feelings about it. I feel like it's going to break if I try to mess with it too much. I am especially afraid of the joints in the thighs and knees. The knee design is actually really interesting though. I really enjoy this kit

I think you missed the shoulder cap. Aside from able to rotate forward,
the cap can also rotate upward. The same articulation system that comes
from the previously released MSD Heavy Gundam.

I pre-ordered mine from USA Gundam store a long time ago and they've yet to get them in. I'm really getting impatient, but there's not much I can do...
The beam spray gun's tab works exclusively with the P-Bandai Origin GM Sniper Custom's calf armor, which is kind of a shame since all the other Origin GMs come with them. You'd think they'd include that option with the other GMs.
Out of curiosity have you tried changing how it holds the shield? Like trying a reverse grip and putting the weight of the shield on the back of the forearm?
I meant to ask this in the unboxing video, but when in the UC timeline does Origin take place? I ask because we know that by the time of at least the OYW, beam tech has gotten to the point that one can manually modulate a beam saber to emit a shorter "blade" (eg. Shiro Amada using his RX-79[G] Ground Gundam's beam saber to create a "hot spring" from snow in the Himalayas in 08MST). That would seem to render the beam daggers used by the GM Guard Custom obsolete; aside from maybe requiring less energy, there doesn't seem to be any reason one would opt for the dagger over the saber.
That said, this does look like an interesting grunt design (inasmuch as any grunt design is an interesting grunt design, I suppose). The large shield seems to imply this is a ground-based mobile suit, or at least that the shield itself is meant for ground combat as a makeshift defense platform, but I may be wrong. The sheer mass of it would make it unwieldy either in space or on land, but line a whole bunch of these shields side by side phalanx-style and anchor them to the ground, and you have a halfway decent wall that can also rain bullets on a charging enemy force thanks to the integrated gatling guns.
I like the design of it more than the bog standard Gundam shield, which always struck me as being absolutely useless and serving only aesthetic purposes. It still sits behind the Ground Gundam/GM's "crash shield" in terms of form meeting function, but it at least has a practical use scenario as opposed to the entirety of the Gundam world's long shield designs. It's a bit of a shame that the kit doesn't do more to emphasize its unique qualities, like molding the back ends of the gatling guns (or indeed indicating at all that there IS a back end) or maybe integrating some sort of arm to hold it up. It might not be "canon" to the design, but neither is the prop stand on the Ground Gundam shield, so there's certainly precedent.
The Origin series is the events that lead up to the OYW. I still have parts 5 an 6 to finish which I believe may include the OYW.
The origin line has two aspects to it. Those of ms seen in the Origin anime, which consists of the events leading up to the original series, and MSD, which consists of a lot of prototypes and obscure variants.

Origin is a prequel/ retelling of the OYW with more details and changes of events and characters. The federation have Guncannons and Guntank before project V, but they suck. The gm guard custom from the kit manual came out near the end of the war during the space campaign after retaking Odessa in the manga. The guard custom is a variant of the sniper custom design for base defense and fleet escort hence the limited load out and the huge shield mostly make sense in zero gravity space .
That giant shield looks like a giant coffin to me....very cool tho
I'm most interested in the GM Interceptor, the weird thing is it has the same exact price but less accessories. It might have a ton of left over parts from the Guard and maybe the Cannon when it comes out.
Sono Interceptor comes out before the GM Cannon, so I doubt he’ll have any GM Cannon leftovers

You can use these in Battle operation 2, the gm can like set up cod style behind the shield and the Vulcans on it chew through stuff, good for holding choke points. Very annoying

this is proper defensive posture with a shield. i.imgur.com/nftYX1v.jpg this is how shields are used in real life which is why alot of kits include the option of attaching the shield to the back of the arm. this posture works on kits that have either a handle or a mounting point on the back of the arm.

Effect parts like that are almost unheard of in Gunpla, so it was never very likely

Late reply, but at that point just buying either GM Sniper or Dominance. You're paying for the amount of plastic in each kit, throwing included things is a major waste

You can totally skip the Interceptor but try not to skip the Sniper and Cannon :)
Shame the Sniper and Cannon are P-Bandai. I was able to justify the Sniper since I'm a huge fan of the design... but the Cannon costs the same and it only comes with the beam gun!

The shield is fine, the posing in the video is just plain bad. For posing, see if it’s comfortable for you to do that pose, and the way Zack put the shield on the hand is plain wrong.

Idk if it’s just the color choice but it seems like this gm design is more childish to me compared to the origin’s more realistic and detailed designs.
Because it’s not an origin design, The guard custom is from MSV, alongside the GM cannon & Gouf prototype, they just tacked on the origin tag.
