Take the millets(foxtail, kodo, little, finger millets etc) , make it as rava and then soak it for 8 hours. Cook it afterwards in small flame in a mudpot/Iron pot. Cool it and tie cotton cloth around the pot and leave it for fermentation for another 8 hours. Ambali is ready with lots of good bacteria. In the same way curd is good not milk.

Dr Pal. Thank you for the breadth & depth of insights. As an Indian, I find your videos filled with practicalities & illustrations that I can relate to. I have since picked up good habits such as ensuring eating fibre, yoghurt, not eating at night & with a biggest takeaway of insulin as a 9am to 5pm employee. I do practice soleus pushups during my long meetings.I am an educator & also am on the lookout to what kids eat. I am feeling clean inside & want to continue with some of ur suggestions. Appreciate your empowering efforts Dr Pal😊

Hi dr pal i agree with every word you said. I have practised what you preach. One more thing i follow is take only good fats every day like dryfruits and nuts in small quantity. Fruit and veggie( all the gourd variety) smoothie , Himalayan rock salt, pepper cumin powder and ginger with flax seeds or chia seeds every day for 3 months to detox liver and cure fatty liver and improve Insulin Sensitivity so that Diabetes comes to control. For thyroid problem I took 1 tea spoon of Sesame oil in warm water ,empty stomach in the morning for 1 week , 1 tsp of coconut oil next week and 1 tsp of pea nut oil for 2 months every day and thyroid has become normal. Well nice listening to you.

Being a doctor myself I felt gut is the main source for all diseases.👍👍👍.
    One suggestion/Request.
Many doctors address the problem for more time. But the solution is less explained i feel.
Solution should be able to followed by layman and detailed sir.
Even half the doctor's don't know what's the exact foods that we can include in our day.
Like what's an ideal diet should be.
Please make a video on how u plan ur meals in a day. That too being stuck with hospital where no healthy food is available. That will be much helpful thank you sir

DrPal - Is "refrigerator stored rice" as good/comparable to pazhaya sorru? I guess rice left outside with a bit of water, ferments itself into pazhaya sorru. But what about rice that is stored in fridge? There are studies that cooled starches turn into resistant starch, and they are classified as 'prebiotics' (that food that feeds gut bacteria)..

Avoiding non veg doesn’t seem to be a good idea. The only best alternative for non veg protein is Dairy and grams which has sugar and carbs and that will not help from weight reduction. I would suggest to take Non veg and more fibre foods like Flaz seeds along with it.
We can also add natural probiotics like Kefir.
    my two cents.

For years I was suffering from gas in the stomach and acid reflux. I was almost taking antacid every night. Then I read somewhere that probiotics will help. I started taking Yakult probiotic drink, available in many countries. After about 2 weeks about 90% of the problem has vanished. It is advised to take Yakult in empty stomach so that it reaches the intestines directly. I understand that Yakult is available in Delhi.

Definitely! Say no to packed food. We hardly buy packed food. Even if it is we buy like kadalai urundai, ellu urundai, etc. instead of store bought chips most of the time we make vadam at home so kids can have a better version of oily food. Even if store bought chips not the ones with lots artificial ones , we buy those with less shell life and imported directly from Indian vendors. Lastly yes mandatory curd rice as it’s our culture of finishing meals. My kids love eating Dosa and Idly with curd and idly podi 😅😂 Still there are places where the kids ask for Yakult /Vitagen tats like improving bacteria but don’t think it’s better than our own curd. Since cannot stop everything completely we do kind of have a control on the junk they eat.

I am not a doctor, but I am a functional nutrition counselor and gut specialist. Are you located in the US? I have a few questions. 1. How much water do you drink? 2. Are you very stressed? 3. How many bowel movements do you have per day? If all those seem normal I would consider using oregano oil. It is very powerful. Just be sure to use a medical grade oil. Good luck. Digestive issues can be frustrating. Dr. Pal has such a great channel.

I can add one fruit daily, one bowl of curd with every meal, avoiding antibiotic, avoid process food, vegetarian diet are easy to start immediately without making any lifestyle changes. These are choices for me not changes so I am expecting to stay with me without any issue. Fermented food I found is giving me swelling in joints so even through I like I am not able to opt for.

    Dr Pal,
I truly love all your videos and try as much to follow as well. Your style of conveing a message is simply hilarious.
However, this video got me and my husband into an argument about the reverse( his thoughts are similar lines of Saranakumar)--When bad bacteria got transfered to a lean patient and he turned obese, can the reverse be possible too? Transfer good bacteria from a lean( and healthy) person to an obese person, can the obese person become lean?
    Waiting for your response! Thanks

Vegetarian food we follow 3 days a week now need to think about it .I never had antibiotics(always taken homopathy) , Avoid stress- hmmm , hygiene hypothesis -will wash hands only after going to toilet , will avoid otherwise in kitchen. Will try this for one month and will try to update after one month.

Hello doctor. I am a 45 year old women. Vegetarian and generally on a reasonable balanced South Indian vegetarian diet. How much portion of fruit is recommended. I tend to eat a small banana, 2 to 3 pieces of apple and a small cup of seasonal fruits like papaya, or mongo or pineapple or muskmelon. Is this ok or too much. I eat in the evening around 6.00 after the day in office. Please suggest

    Superb Doc! Your delivery is just too good and as a Tamilian, I enjoy your mix of tamil.

    1. 25G of fibers -- fruits
    2. 1 serving of Fermented foods - idli, dhokla
    3. Avoid processed food - white is 95% processed; ingredients with "artificial'
    4. Vegetarian foods - more fibre -- 20 meal/week
    5. No antibiotics -- unless it's absolutely needed
Little steps - Less stress and hygenie hopethesis

Excellent video. Yes vegetables are best source of fiber. Fruits are tricky. Fructose is not that great. One also need protein & healthy Fat, including SCFA. . So human as an omnivore can not completely ignore the protein. One NV meal in 21 , is too less.
However your msg. Is very clear. We need to take care of our friends, our GUT microbiomes. They can be the reson for ones anxiety / depression. Gut dysbiosys can be the reason for Low neurotransmitter production.
