Love the depiction of Odysseus's eagerness and desperation to get home at 0:36 to 0:43. Of course he wants to get back to his home, to his kingdom. Buts it's at the mention of Penelope, that the desperation takes hold for a few seconds, where he looks like a man who would do almost anything, even jump off the boat and leave his men behind, just to get home to her. Absolutely love it
Oh my you are right! It is the look of someone who is "already there". Indeed he almost seems able to jump off the ship and swim like the wind to go to them!
Freaking Polities expressions when they talk about raiding the island. "Really Eurylochus? Infront of my salad!?" vibes. Holy shit I followed the process on twitter, this turned out SO well!
I just realized that when he sings 600 men they don't repeat after him except for. When he sings to make him back home, BUT when Eurylochus Sings 600 men They do back up vocals for him? Already showing where their loyalty lay even before any of the deaths start.
thats not it Eurylochus is the spirit of crew, his emotins are theirs. He represents them. So much so that technically crew is his instrument. only 2 times he doesn't have them and at each of them he was having private chat with Ody, those are the moments that we seperate Eurylochus and the crew(when he is at the island of Circe and prepering to confess/escaping from circe) and when they arrive to Scylla's lair once again he is having a personal chat with odysseus.(technically we still have crew at background but they are doing their own thing really). its not show of loyalty, crew is his instrument. When we hear the crew we know Eurylochus is there.
they all look so happy, I hope nothing horribly tragic happens, especially to the glasses wearing cinnamon bun known as Polities! (shoves the Cyclops saga in a bag with locks under the bed) I LOVE HOW ODYSSEUS IS THE SHORTEST. On another note, first of all, your animatic is mindblowingly amazing, as always. The range of emotion and the little details in how they all move is perfect! And it's really cool that you included the twin tree bed, that was a cool reference to the original myth.

I always felt bad for Odysseus and his men. All of them died except for him and he was gone, what, 20 years? All because he hurt the gods fragile feelings 🥲
Well mostly Poseidon and Helios. Poseidon because he blinded Polyphemus, one of his children, Zeus stopped him from outright killing Odysseus because it was his fate to return home, and also Polyphemus broke the laws of hospitality, and instead just made sure his journey was hell. Helios because his crew were starving and despite warnings from a seer they slaughter the gods cattle for food, except Odysseus who endures, and is mutineed against, and since they did eat the gods cattle without permission Zeus had to punish the offenders which was everyone except Odysseus.

@@Minjit_me Polyphemus killed either 71 or 72 men, then Poseidon drowned either 485 or 486 men, leaving 43 under Ody's command by the time Ody makes it to Circe's Island, and then Elpenor got drunk and fell off of Circe's palace, now making it only 42 men left under Ody's command (558 men died under his command by the time they go to the Underworld). Then, 6 men get sacrificed to Scylla, making it 36 men left when Zeus makes Ody choose between himself or his crew after the whole eternal cow slaughter, and now he has no more men under his command.
this animatic does SUCH a good job at showing the hope and joy and contentment of Odysseus finally having won the war, being on his way back, thinking all the violence is over. It's putting everything that comes after into a whole new perspective for me, it's incredible.
Polites’ reaction at 2:02 when Eurylochus was planning on raiding the island is such a funny little detail. Our sunshine boy was like “WHAT DID U JUST SAY???” I loved the animatic, by the way!

You've got such a knack for the human figure that I am convinced you are/were an art or animation student. Its subtle things like each character having their own build and face, the attention to the background, and shots to tempo. The kicking over the barrel to end on the low note of "Depleted" didn't need to be there or the ors in focus but it adds so much. This is so cinematic. Every shot in the animatic has more thought and effort put in than the entire "Cats" movie. Also, the flashes of the monsters are a perfect touch.
I do love the flashes. The Greek myth has some baller monsters beyond just the classic “Minotaur, hydra, chimera, Medusa.” You got sorceresses like Circe, you got the original “rock and a hard place” with Charybdis and Scylla. If you branch away from the odyssey you got stuff like typhon, and even the Erinyes.

Odysseus: 600 men UNDER my command Also Odysseus: *literally stands 5 inches under said men* I love it too much--and your composition of shots is so great! Great work :D
Going through all the animatics after Vengeance and I love the interaction at 2:36 Polites: "Come on, E, what's the worst that can happen? We starve? We get lost for ages? The gods would _never_ let that happen!" Eurylochus: "Athena, save me from this fool..."
OH MY GOSH... your design for the olive tree weddingbed?? The idea of having the tree still alive instead of just a bed from its wood is just *CHEFFS KISS*!
HOLY- I CAN'T BELIEVE I JUST WOKE UP TO A MASTERPIECE. The panning, the expressions, your art in general; they're all so good! The combination of the scenes you chose to draw, with the lyrics, has me absolutely breathless because my goodness. It's. Just so good. That doesn't even properly describe how overtaken I am by this beautiful animatic. Also, gotta love how Odysseus seems so carefree in this animatic :'). Nothing will go wrong, definitely. 2:02 is definitely one of my favorite frames because Polites' face was like, "Are you even _listening_ to yourself-?" 2:23, that smile, followed by "and if we don't return," I'm just- ༼;´༎ຶ ༎ຶ༽.
Wolfy back at it again with the god-tier animatics. Every shot is awesome. The ships, the kingdom, the rowers, Polites being adorable here, and the expressions you gave Odysseus (well, everyone, but him especially) when he's looking out at sea longingly melts my heart. Poor guy just wants to see his family again.
I JUST NOTICED THE DETAIL OF THE BED BEING CARVED FROM THE TREE HOLY SHIT THAT'S SUCH A DEEP CUT THAT JUST MAKES THIS EVEN BETTER The Odyssey has always been near and dear to my heart, and that level of attention to detail seriously means a lot to me. Keep up the great work!
I really hope this version never gets taken down. I like the bew for the instrumentals. But this version really gives me that epic feel of "600" MEN singing. Not a small crew of men.
THE BED 😭 it's such an overreaction but my face literally went 🥺 when i saw it. and odysseus leaning farther towards the ocean as he sings until he says penelope's name 🥺🥺
Beautiful animation! There is so much to like in this, I especially love the way you show what they are implying at "it's what lies in between" where it briefly flashes a few of the monsters they encounter during their voyage
Oh my goodness, Wolfy, you have outdone yourself! I love seeing your new animatics and because of you my interest and love for EPIC has grown exponentially! Ok now imagine Dreamworks working with @wolfythewitch and the Composer of the songs to make a full musical 2D movie like the masterpices we saw in the 90's
I'll forget everything happened past this. They've successfully got supplies and food. They've all arrived well, all 600 men. They've arrived in Telemachus's birthday with the suitors planning a surprise party for him and it become much more of a surprise with Odysseus finally back home. That's what happened with the Odyssey. It's boring but everything was well, happily ever after!

Round of applause to the two of them, Neal Illustrator, and AnniFlame for being absolute legends amongst us Epic fans.
Going through all the animatics after Vengeance and I love the interaction at 2:36
Polites: "Come on, E, what's the worst that can happen? We starve? We get lost for ages? The gods would _never_ let that happen!"
Eurylochus: "Athena, save me from this fool..."
Polites getting angry at Eurylochus suggesting just burning the island is so funny
The design of the tree bed is so gorgeous!! And the way he leaned more and more forward at "Penelope's waiting" ouughh
Literally took the words right out of my mouth- :D
0:25 rewatching this, oh my god its the. its the marriage bed. the one. ITS THE BED!!! rhats such a good detail oh my god, this is truly a work of art
I love the little hints towards the obstacles Odysseus is going to be facing!
Eurylochus's face palm. I relate with that expression on a spiritual level. Odysseus should have listened to his right hand man.
In fairness Ody had no reason to assume that the island would have lotus eaters who point them towards a cyclops
I JUST NOTICED THE DETAIL OF THE BED BEING CARVED FROM THE TREE HOLY SHIT THAT'S SUCH A DEEP CUT THAT JUST MAKES THIS EVEN BETTER
The Odyssey has always been near and dear to my heart, and that level of attention to detail seriously means a lot to me. Keep up the great work!
I really hope this version never gets taken down. I like the bew for the instrumentals. But this version really gives me that epic feel of "600" MEN singing. Not a small crew of men.
They all sound so happy in this i sure hope nothing bad happens!
I love how Odysseus kind of emphasises that Eurylochus is SECOND. Back after Ithaca saga😢❤
Oh my goodness, Wolfy, you have outdone yourself! I love seeing your new animatics and because of you my interest and love for EPIC has grown exponentially! I love how you portray the characters, expecially Odysseus. You capture every emotion in such an elegant style, I am in love. Can't wait for more animatics like this one! Amazing job!
THIS WAS SO CUTE. SMILING ODYSSEUS 😭😭😭 and polites is a cutie
I'm utterly amazed! The movements, the expressions the vibess it's all so immaculately made! I love your animations, thank you so much for this beautiful work :D
1:52 ah yes, eyeglasses, commonly known to have first been worn by ancient greeks.
0:24 - Whoa, you even included THAT bed? That's awesome!
I'm really fangirling over this Politics
Ok now imagine Dreamworks working with @wolfythewitch and the Composer of the songs to make a full musical 2D movie like the masterpices we saw in the 90's
I'll forget everything happened past this.
They've successfully got supplies and food.
They've all arrived well, all 600 men.
They've arrived in Telemachus's birthday with the suitors planning a surprise party for him and it become much more of a surprise with Odysseus finally back home.
That's what happened with the Odyssey. It's boring but everything was well, happily ever after!
A nice, happy palate cleanser. Homer wrote because he was worried people would be too depressed after the Illiad.
You smell that? It's denial.
I'd never heard the original version of this song before now, & i gotta day there's a certain youth to it. A beautiful naivety
Imagine Odysseus in each song names the number of his soldiers like this, it starts with 600 and then becomes less and less...
Imagine surviving a 10 year war and having all of your men surivive the war
Only to arrive home alone knowing all of their deaths are on you
Makes it even more sad knowing they all had families at home waiting for them aswell 😞
Me listening to Epic: man, why do all the women fall for Odysseus it doesn't make sense
Me looking at yours Odysseus: oh no ok I get it
2:33 This entire interaction
i am dead- after a day of limping around the city for hours you managed to make my day, the animated parts are amazing and i absolutely adore how you draw the characters as well as how you capture their dynamics and emotions (My Goodbye comes to mind a lot)
I literally watch your animatics on loop and am amazed every time I find a new detail I missed before, you're amazing just like your art, keep up the wonderful work !
The smiles we could´nt protect
"We should find a way no one ends up dead"
He in fact did not find that way
Nooooo.dont even 😭😭😭😭😭
I love have you did the fast-passed but detail showcase of all the different monsters that lie ahead on the journey. 0:34
i’ve watched this animatic so many times but i just now realized odysseus has a wedding ring on
i love you sm for saying this i'm convulsing now
