    Applied just before the new year & sent in the required documentation, now says the recruiting team has already reviewed things and that I am ready for testing. Suppose now I just call my local detachment? Great videos by the way, been binge watching to prepare, have wanted to join the reserves for a while now and the naval reserve is right up my alley. I’m a steel trades worker by day helping construct the upcoming Joint Support Ship for the RCN, and also work on vessels for the coast guard. Suppose it helps too as I already have my NATO secret clearance. Cheers!

      You should get an auto email right away, and then the local recruiter will phone or email. If you applied for Reserves, we process applications separately from the recruiting centre, so you can potentially speed things up by contacting the unit you are interested in directly. forces.ca/en/find-a-recruiting-centre/#/ I recommend both calling and emailing.

    Thank you for the highly informative and energizing videos. Perhaps better suited for another video, but would you mind providing some guidance or detail on what post-BMQ training for Naval Communicator looks like in the reserves? Is the 29 week residential training consecutive, or may it be divided into smaller more employer friendly segments?

    • @PrairieSailor
      @PrairieSailor  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nav Comm training will be BMQ, NETP (Naval Environmental Training for the weeks) and then occupational training. The 29 weeks will be broken up into smaller (8-12 week) modules over 3 summers or so. This video is a little old but still pretty accurate: www.google.com/search?client=ms-android-samsung-ss&sca_esv=568381026&q=forces.ca+naval+communicator&tbm=vid&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiRobbkpMeBAxUHIjQIHckACa4Q0pQJegQIBhAB&biw=360&bih=667&dpr=3#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:e554ffbe,vid:yOOSINNGSAE,st:0

What are you doing when on shore? How long you would be with you family? I Worked as a marine engineer on merchant ships, would that experience be helpful?

    • @PrairieSailor

      You can be on the Naval Security Team while remaining at your home unit. You will do a training course to get qualified (outside your home unit) and then be eligible for deployments with the team for a period of time.

    As far as I understood the CFAT force test is mandatory every year or 2 by all the members. Me I passed the force thast when I applied, and retake it after 3 years again right after the interview .

    • @PrairieSailor
      @PrairieSailor  ปีที่แล้ว

      The CFAT (aptitude test) score does not expire so it does not need to be renewed annually. The Force Evaluation (fitness test) does expire and needs to be renewed each year. This is true for current members and Reserve applicants. Regular Force applicants do not need to do the Force Evalualtion until after they are enrolled.

    Is it possible to change profession in CAF after having served a few years as an officer in different domain, i.e. from Signals to Intelligence Officer? Thank you!

    • @PrairieSailor
      @PrairieSailor  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, there are several transfer avenues, the most common being the VOT, Voluntary Occupational Transfer. Transfers are done through the PSO, the Personnel Selection Office. You can go on the PSO website if you are a member and look up all of the different transfer programs: transfer from Resersvs Force to Reg Force, Army to Navy, or just change Occupation within an element. All through the PSO.

      @@PrairieSailor Sir, got another question. What rank would be usually assigned to an individual who holds a master's degree from a civilian university and chooses to join CAF as a full-time Non-Commissioned Member?

    • @PrairieSailor
      @PrairieSailor  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joebol2036 Most likely starting out at Sailor 3rd Class like everybody else. If your degree is directly applicable to your occupation sometimes you can get credit towards training and promotion, but you are not usually assigned any extra rank upon enrolment as an NCM. You still need to complete all of the military training, Basic Military Qualification and Naval Environmental Training, before you are eligible for promotion. You can be promoted faster along the way if your education is directly applicable, but you can't get additional rank assigned automatically. If you have prior military experience it is possible to be enrolled with a higher rank.

    Hello Sailor.
    You can enroll for CAF if you have Residency, but for Clearance check, you have to provide references. They should be people who have known you for at least 5 years. But if you obtained residency recently, you probably haven't lived in Canada for such a long period of time. How does it work in this case? Can you provide references from your original country?

    I am thinking about moving or also becoming a resident in Canada, I live in the U.S. , I want to get a residence in Canada. I am 51 years old , I had a injury from powerlifting 9 years ago, maybe spinal stenosis, when it first happened I had sciatica, now I feel fine, I am in the gym lifting heavy weights again, my bench press currently is 315lb, working my way back to 425lb bench and squats for now, and I do have muscle relaxers prescribed in case I need them, I have not had to take them for over 5 years, I also back deadlifting over 315 lbs now want to at least work back in the 500's in deadlift. With the injury I had back in 2014, and rehabbed myself lifting heavy again and soon be back at the strength I was before not that far away from achieving my goal will injury in the past disqualify me ?

    • @PrairieSailor
      @PrairieSailor  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. You will have to talk to the medical staff at the CFRC directly. Medical situations are assessed individually. Usually you will have to see a specialist and provide a letter describing your injury and recovery to the military medical staff. Canadian Forces Recruiting Centre (204) 983-3680.

    Hello PO Fraser ,
    I had a question regarding current open positions. I remember you mentioning about controlled positions such as Intelligence,Pilot etc. Is it true that the chances of getting hired soon in those are very bleak even if you qualify in the CFAT? Do the reserve units also have competition list for the controlled positions?
    Thanks

    • @PrairieSailor
      @PrairieSailor  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! I would not say the chances of getting hired in controlled occupations are "very bleak", but you can likely count on waiting. I am hearing from every source that the CAF is increasing recruiting and I am expecting that this must mean that more positions will open up soon. Reserve Units do not have the same sort of competition list as the Regular Force. In order to get enrolled in a controlled occupation we send an individual request for each candidate to regional staff who manage the number of people we can hire. All factors such as unit need, CFAT, interview, employment history and experience are considered.

    Are recruits in their first summer of full-time training usually loaded onto an NETP course after their BMQ mod 3 course during the same summer? If yes, is it immediately or do you get to go home for a bit before taking the NETP course?

    • @PrairieSailor
      @PrairieSailor  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Usually yes, we try to get them on their NETP during the same summer as BMQ. In the majority of cases a Recruit will get to go home after graduating before going on NETP. The duration of the time in between depends on scheduling. We can employ recruits full time for the duration of the summer regardless of the gap in between courses, they can do general duties while they are waiting for the next course.

    Question: i must choose asap: i sign up in Navy soon, very soon. Reserve or Regular? As marine tech. heard basic training Reserve easier....

    • @PrairieSailor
      @PrairieSailor  ปีที่แล้ว

      I will have a Reg Force vs Reserve video soon! In short: Reg = Full time, Res = part time; Reg = can be posted (have to move) anywhere in Canada, Res = stay at home unit and travel for training and deployments; Reg = higher pay and better benefits, Res = pretty good benefits; Reg = mandatory deployments if ordered, Res = voluntary deployments only (unless act of parliament orders res service in emergency). Yes I would say Res basic training is easier, but that isn't really the deciding factor. Both are very achievable, other factors effect your life more long term. Best advice is to apply as soon as possible, the process takes a long time and it's OK to change your mind during the application process and transfer your application.

      @@PrairieSailor I had a quick q for you as well if you dont mind. How simple/hard is the process for becoming part of the reserves after regular force contract is finished? Is it easy to transition or do I have to do the application again and wait?

    • @PrairieSailor
      @PrairieSailor  ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't base my decision in Basic Training, that is short term thinking. Biggest question, do you want to move? Reg Force you will need to move, Reserve you stay living at home and travel (all paid) for training. Also Reserve is only part time to start, so if you are looking for full time employment you need reg force.

    • @PrairieSailor
      @PrairieSailor  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Tribuneoftheplebs You do NOT need to release from forces and re-apply. Some will say this is how to do it, but I disagree. There are processes in place to transfer using the personnel selection office, it is a component transfer. It will take time so if that's your plan I would get started with the process.

    Can I make a living just doing class b and c? Can't find a solid answer anywhere. Thanks

    • @PrairieSailor
      @PrairieSailor  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you can. Typically Class B contract max length is 3 years, with one 3 year extension. So you can work 6 years in the same job without competition. You can apply for another extension after that, but the position will be open for competition. Or you can find another class B or C. It is not the easiest thing to do as you will always be searching for that next contract as one comes to end, but it is doable. You can also go on EI if a contract expires and you don't have anything lined up, and you can top up your EI to the max by working class A while you look for another job and/or class B contract.
