    Thank you for such an informative video. The only question I have is associated with the procedure for transferring from reserves to full time. If I would like to transfer from reserves to full time, is this a long, complicated process?

    • @PrairieSailor
      @PrairieSailor  ปีที่แล้ว

      Transferring from Reserves to the Regular Force is called a Component Transfer and it is done through the PSO, Personnel Selection Officer. If you are staying in the same element and occupation and you are qualified in your trade it is relatively straightforward. If you are changing occupations or you have not reached OFP (operational functional point) you will need to meet the criteria for the new occupation. Talk to your Chain of Command, more info here:www.canada.ca/en/department-national-defence/corporate/policies-standards/defence-administrative-orders-directives/5000-series/5002/5002-3-component-and-sub-component-transfer.html

    Hi, thank you very much for this video. You are very concise and straight to the point and informative.
    I Very appreciate.
    I was wondering, once completing all the medical exams and the interview, and once your background check is cleared, do you have any idea how long on avg it could take to be told whether you get accepted or not, for Full time NCM position?

    • @PrairieSailor
      @PrairieSailor  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the Reserve we usually do 4 or 5 enrolment ceremonies per year, so you could wait an average of 1 - 3 months until the next one. In reality we are usually finalizing your file right before an enrol ceremony so the wait can be very short. In the Regular Force you may go on the competition list which means the wait could be longer. If the position you want is full, the wait can be long as well, waiting until the next fiscal year for additional positions to become available. In my personal experience, if your position is available and your file is ready for enrolment, we usually do it very fast, sometimes within a week or two of your interview.

    Hello @Prairie Sailor, thank you immensely for your professional and organized videos. I am U.S. citizen residing in the U.S. currently and was planning to return to my native country of Canada to join the Reserve Naval Warfare Officer (formerly M.A.R.S.) community. Quick questions please: Is a Canadian birth certificate and proof of provincial residency sufficient evidence of Canadian citizenship or does recruitment require a Canadian passport? Also, it is unclear as to what the training for Reserve NWO entails: Does such training schedule involve sequentially the (1) Basic Military Qualification Modules #1-3 + (2) Naval Environmental Training Program + (3) Weapons, First Aid, Other Sources + (4) Basic Military Officer Qualification (a.k.a. CF Leadership and Recruit School at St. Jean-sur-Richelieu for 12 weeks) + (5) Second foreign language training for 2-9 months + (6) Training on officer responsibilities at Naval Officer Training Centre in Esquimalt, British Columbia, for 12 months (IS this identical to Regular Force NWO training at Naval Fleet School Pacific in Esquimalt, British Columbia for 12 months>) training + (7) Formal on-the-job training towards Bridge Watchkeeping Certificate and Naval Warfare Officer Professional Qualification while posted to operational ship for ~24 months + (8) Specialty Training for 4-6 months?

    • @PrairieSailor
      @PrairieSailor  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great questions! You can apply with a Canadian Birth Certificate and Driver's license for photo ID, so you don't need the passport right away, but you will need a passport to go on Ship. All sailors need a passport with them in the event the ship needs to leave Canadian waters.

    • @PrairieSailor
      @PrairieSailor  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For NWO training you are on the right track. 1. Basic Miltary Officer Qualification (BMOQ) - Modules 1 - 3 is 9 weeks total: 1 week online, 3 weeks at home unit, 5 weeks in Valcartier Quebec for NAVAL RESERVE. BMOQ is 12 weeks in St. Jean for Regular Force (you dont have to do both, one or the other, they are considered equivalent) 2. Then Naval Environmental Training Program 5 weeks in Esquimalt. 3. Naval Warfare Officer Training 12 months total in Esquimalt and/or Halifax. In the Reserve this will be done in 3 or 4 month modules over 3 - 4 years. It is equivalent to Regular Force Training, it just takes longer. On the Job Training (OJT) will continue throughout your career. Specialty training will continue, and language training is an option. 1.BMOQ 9 weeks 2. NETP 5 weeks and 3. NWO 12 months will get you qualified and able to go on deployments. Best to schedule a meeting to get all the dates and numbers right, things can change and are slightly different in different regions.

    • @lmz920621
      @lmz920621 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@PrairieSailor For the "3. Naval Warfare Officer Training 12 months total in Esquimalt and/or Halifax.", is this training can ONLY be done in 3 or 4 month modules over 3 - 4 years? Or can I volunteer to SQUEEZE them into a consecutive 12-month (just as the regular force training), so I can speed up the training process?

    • @PrairieSailor
      @PrairieSailor  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lmz920621 That's a great question. It is possible for Reservists to go on Reg Force Training courses, often they are in fact the same courses and there is no separate Reserve version. However even for Reg Force I believe NWO Training is done in modules for on the job experience to occur in between. You can complete it faster than 3-4 years if you are available to do courses any time of year rather than just the summer months.

    Hi, I am currently learning the Trombone and music theory at Home and I would like to join the Canadian Armed Forces as a musician eventually. That being said I am not so sure if I need to go to a music Conservatoire or school as I can learn pretty much everything at Home and my Father is also a musician who is helping me right now, but I'm asking this anyway, does the Canadian Army pay for school fees even for Musician and if it does, do I need to go to a specific school or can I just go to a Music Conservatoire in my HomeTown. I've already read about the Audition and I'm slowly preparing myself for it but I was wondering. On another note, how should MUSICIANS choose the Faction or Element (Army, Navy or Air Force) ? What should be the main critieria when choosing your Element ? Where I live ? Best looking Uniform ? Travel opportunities ? One very Last question : is The Naval Experience Program a good idea for musician ? Is it possible for Musician to do multiple roles at the same time (exemple Musician but also Tank Solider or Navy Gun Operator). Thank you informative video.

    • @PrairieSailor
      @PrairieSailor  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, academic reimbursement is available for Reserve musicians studying music in university. When choosing Army, Navy or Air Force as a musician you need to find out what bands exist in your city. Not every military unit has a band. In Winnipeg for example there is a Naval Reserve Band, an Army Reserve Band, and a Regular Force Air Force band.

    • @PrairieSailor
      @PrairieSailor  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Naval Experience program would not include musician in the job shadowing portion. You could do it to get your foot in the door and make money, but it would not help your music career. It might still be a good idea that works for you!

    • @PrairieSailor
      @PrairieSailor  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My biased opinion is that Naval Reserve Bands are best, we have the National Band of the Naval Reserve which travels across the country each summer. There are only 5 Naval Reserve Bands in Canada though, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Hamilton, and Quebec City.

      3.3 An applicant is required to be:
      a Canadian citizen; or
      a citizen of another country who has permanent resident status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and:
      undertakes to become a Canadian citizen immediately when eligible to do so;
      satisfies a special need; and
      whose enrolment, in the opinion of the Commander (Comd) Canadian Forces Recruiting Group (CFRG), would not prejudice the national interest.
      "Satisfies a special need" would be having some sort of specialized skill or qualification that is in demand and otherwise unavailable. We do not have any occupations in the Naval Reserve that meet this criteria, but if you a special skill you can check with your local Regular Force Recruiting center to see if you meet the criteria.

      @@annaholton422 yes it takes time and experience to make it to NTOG. You would be eligible to apply once BMQ and Bosn training is complete. It is a competitive selection process. A good stepping stone is the Naval Security Team you may want to check out: th-cam.com/video/CwZg7y2oW0Q/w-d-xo.html

    So would you have to use your own vacation time at tour other job to do the training in another city? I walk by HMCS Unicorn everyday here in Saskatoon and am interested in reviewing the process.

    • @PrairieSailor

      You should be able to get unpaid time off from your civilian employer in order to complete training and not use your vacation days. "The enactment of federal, provincial and territorial Job Protection Legislation has changed the legislative framework in which Reservists can now seek a leave of absence from their civilian employment or educational programs, in order to be deployed on military operations or to take part in military training"

      @@PrairieSailor Perfect thank you. One last thing i want to join the Navy as part timer in the Intelligence Operator unfortunately the trade isnt "in demand" so i also applied for Naval communicator which is in demand. My question is did i just ruin my chances of joining as an intelligence Operator? will i just be automatically sent to the Naval Communicator Trade because it is in demand?

    • @PrairieSailor
      @PrairieSailor  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MikeMike-iz9dw I recommend making Intelligence Operator your #1 and Naval Communicator your #2 preference. We care about retention, so if there is a spot available we will often give your #1 even if #2 is in demand. Intelligence Operator is not quite as overstaffed as Intelligence Officer, so you may have a shot.

    hi i applied as a boatswain, but needed pre assesment, i already passed my aptitude test. just wondering if they can speed up my process

    • @PrairieSailor
      @PrairieSailor  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Cyril, unfortunately pre-assesment can take a long time. My best advice is to make sure all forms are filled out completely and accurately on the first try. We don't do pre-assesments in house, they are scanned and sent to headquarters. They are then sent back for corrections if required, so even minor errors can cause delays. There isn't much you can do other than to avoid delays by getting the forms right the first time and check in periodically on progress. Good luck with your application!
