Situated in the heart of the New Administrative Capital, a colossal urban project located 45 km east of Cairo, the Egypt New Capital Stadium is set to replace the iconic Cairo International Stadium and claim its place as the second-largest facility in Africa. With a seating capacity of 93,440, this state-of-the-art stadium will undoubtedly become a symbol of pride for Egypt's sporting scene.
But the Egypt New Capital Stadium is much more than just a stadium. It serves as the centerpiece of a grand sports complex that encompasses two large sports halls, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a hippodrome, a tennis complex, squash facilities, training pitches, and even administrative, cultural, and hotel buildings. This comprehensive complex will be among the largest of its kind in Africa and the Middle East, offering a wide range of sporting and entertainment opportunities.
Designed by the renowned SHESA Architectural Design firm, the stadium's elliptical ground plan and its roof, inspired by the headdress of Nefertiti, exude a sense of grandeur. Inside, you'll find an athletics track encircled by three-tiered oval stands, constructed with reinforced concrete and complemented by a steel tendon structure adorned with impressive high masts. These masts support a membrane roofing that covers the entire auditorium, while on the outside, the stadium is adorned with a captivating multi-shade blue and turquoise facade.
Construction of the Egypt New Capital Stadium began in late 2019, spearheaded by the Egyptian construction tycoon, Orascom Construction PLC. The project showcases Egypt's commitment to sports and development, and there are even whispers of the country considering bidding for major international sporting events such as the Olympic Games or the FIFA World Cup. With its grandeur and future-focused design, the Egypt New Capital Stadium sets the stage for Egypt to become a host of prestigious tournaments in the years to come.
