    In all honesty, I am 100% with Jason for this one. Considering he died and then was brought back, only to see that his killer had been left alive to kill even more, it's already a miracle he's even come to terms with Batman.
    There were so many things Barbara could have done here. Like making Joker shut the hell up, or actually talk Jason down by comforting him. But no, she litteraly just stood here and watched as an abuser forced his victim to relieve all of the thrauma he had put him through; she knew Jason couldn't handle the situation, yet she did nothing.

      You’re not wrong. But instead of Batman or Jason doing the deed it should have been the state that should have been the one to put the Joker down. First time he committed his crimes ok lock him up in Arkham and try to rehabilitate him, he then escapes and does commits even worse crime, ok let’s lock him up in a more secure manner and try again, third time he breaks out and commits even worse crimes, that’s it it’s clear he’s beyond redemption time for the state to hand down the death penalty. But instead they keep locking him up only for him to escape and k ill again and again and again. Hell I’m willing to bet Gotham’s cemeteries are filled with his victims from every single time he’s escaped. And yet the State doesn’t do anything other than lock him up. I agree that Batman shouldn’t be the one to k ill the Joker it should have been the State a long time ago. The fact that the State doesn’t hand out the death penalty for the Jokers crimes is quite frankly and insult to the justice that Batman fights for. It’s not like handing it out to a simple mugger or bank robber, this is a megalomaniac that commits mass m urder with glee and has no remorse whatsoever for his crimes. The Joker is beyond redemption and should’ve been taken care of by the state years ago.

    Honestly that argument of "if you kill a murderer there is still one" it's starting to become real bs, because one murderer could potentially kill a 1k people and the murderer's murderer would only kill one and save way more. Admittedly in Joker's case that would mean his definitive victory but it's just dumb that he gets to live another day while being one of the most dangerous psychopaths around that continues proving again and again that he should definitely be terminated.

      I'm just getting tired of the notion that killing the Joker is somehow some kind of 'victory' for him. That the Joker's life is somehow more precious and valuable to every hero in the world, than the lives of the innocent people he kills. Seriously, they constantly depict every hero in the DC universe bending over backwards, knocking themselves stupid, trying to SAVE the Joker's life. And to what end? To prove they're 'better than that'? Insanity plea or not, in real life, a killer like the Joker would have gotten the death penalty a thousand times over.
      I understand the use of 'plot armor' in telling a story, but in the Joker's case, it's gotten hackneyed and stale, how the writers protect him and make his excuses.

    I would have to side with Jason on this one. Joker basically forced Jason to relive that trauma, and Barbara just stood there and did nothing to stop it, with Jason holding a gun to Joker. And while that speech from Joker was taking place, Barbara didn't gag him, no punches, nothing. Just stood there and watched. And if anything, I'm glad that after Jason pulled the trigger, and the speech between him and Barbara took place, he asked 'When was the last time you missed?' Not so much in her hitting Jason's hand, but how she missed his gun. That one question proved to Jason how right he was about wanting the same as him, in terms of killing Joker. In the instance of killing Joker makes you question this. How many more people would Joker have killed, until he was killed? Since he can basically walk out the front door of the Asylum any time he wanted.

    How could Joker stand being taken down by a nobody and treated like a nobody?

Sure, the number of killers may remain the same, but the future number of people alive increases. I'm honestly so tired with so many of Batman's villains getting shoved into Arkham only to break out a week later. If containment in one place doesn't work, it's time to try another place or build a better place, and if that doesn't work, if they prove time and time again that they can escape containment, don't care about rehabilitation, and keep on killing, then it's time to consider execution.

      I have to agree, while I think most of Batman rogues are redemable and deserve to have some kind of happy ending, but in case of Joker I don't understand why Batman protect Joker from death, I mean he literaly resurected him with Lazarus Pit when he was killed for killing Jason, I mean why he did that he had no problem with beating Hatter half to death and leaving him to drown, leaving KGbeast to starve and saving him only because Robin conviced him to save him, or breaking someones neck and leaving them to die because they killed or injured one of his Robins (I don't remember this one in details), he even once brutally beat Mr. Freeze and forced him to take blame for murder just because he was angry about his failed wedding, this makes Batman a hudge hyporcite. Also I hate how they turned him into abusive father to his robins.

    I don't doubt that there are very few Batman fans who didn't find this immensely satisfying.
    The fact of the matter is that the death penalty exists for several very good reasons...
    1: Some people are so evil, that they DESRVE to die.
    The Joker may or may not be insane, but he is definitely evil.
    We all know this.
    We've always known this.
    The Joker doesn't do what he does, because he thinks that he is on some kind of holy mission....
    He doesn't do it because he believes that aliens are giving him orders....
    He terrorizes, brutalizes, tortures, and horribly murders innocent people, for pleasure and for attention.
    2. To give the victims and their loved ones, a sense of satisfaction and closure.
    3. Because some people are just too dangerous, for society to take the chance that they will ever be paroled, or pardoned, or have the charges dismissed on a technicality, or simply, escape.
    And with all of the horror and massive destruction which the Joker and others like him, have inflicted on the people of Gotham City over many years, I think that if this were happening in the real world, the state of New York (where Gotham Cty is supposed to be located) would have long since, passed a bill, exempting super-villains from being found Not Guilty By Reason of Insanity; and sent the Joker, Killer Crock, Bane, and others like them, to the chair; and fried their evil brains until their eyes popped like eggs in a skillet.

    • @Wastelandman7000
      @Wastelandman7000 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even more to the point, there are some people so evil the only way to keep others safe is to put them down. Like a rabid dog. You don't kill a rabid dog because you hate the dog. It just has to be done to stop the dog from hurting others.

    • @Wastelandman7000

    While people are shitting on everybody for reacting negatively to this Joker’s killing and praising Jason to heaven and back, there’s one painfully obvious reason why he shouldn’t have let this Joker get to him and pull the trigger that I can’t believe nobody has pointed out yet or how somebody has to, if you’re still unwilling to accept or acknowledge every other reason: They need answers. Badly. Jason killing this Joker hurt their investigation, if anything. Anybody who seriously thinks they’re upset that Jason killed the Joker, especially *because* he’s the Joker, really needs to think again. They’re upset because he killed at all and let this Joker get to him. They’re upset because they need answers. They’re upset because Jason may have not only affected the investigation but also probably murdered a victim.
    It’s bad enough some people are drawing conclusions on what they saw and what happened incorrectly or in an exaggerated light, like, for example, *how* upset people are saying Barbara is or got and why compared to what actually happened on the pages. The ‘why’ often applies to the fact that many of these same commenters are ignoring other factors in things like Barbara’s reaction or what Jason was so clearly feeling and mentally going through before he pulled the trigger.

      @Dragular I mean Batgirl looks bad on both ends. Batgirl is just as guilty as Jason for killing the joker. She didn't want to stop him , she let Jason kill the joker. Thus, Jason's remark of her not missing he shots. She never misses, but in this instance, she did when hitting her shot meant saving the joker. So she was complicit. So, she either looks like a hypocrite or a person who lets her feelings in the way of the mission.

    • @teleportedbreadfor3days
      @teleportedbreadfor3days ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Saxton_Hoovy What? You’re completely missing something. It was clearly a deep-down sorta subconscious thing. Batgirl got upset because Jason hit her with what was, at least to her, quite possibly, a hard truth she could barely respond to the way she did at all. She knows what’s right and wrong just as any ordinary Human does but just as that, deep down she wants the Joker to pay. This also has to do with that fact that she also knew deep down there was a chance this was the real Joker.

    There's a certain banality that comes with the real-world morality of batman - being that criminals don't need to die, they need appropriate help and support - clashing against the madcap supervillainy of the DC universe. In the real world, Batman's philosophy is _incontrovertibly_ right, because people don't do things out of "pure evil" - since pure evil does not exist. It's a fantasy employed in varying ways to make situations feel simpler than they are, so that they don't feel morally objectionable to most ordinary people. It's a rather different effect to ask someone "I need you to track down and kill this evil person" versus "I want you to execute an emotionally traumatised and/or mentally ill person who has been radicalised by a system which preys upon underprivileged individuals, a system which you will now help to perpetuate".
    On the flipside, we have DC's long laundry list of supervillains, but more importantly, the company's unwillingness to make permanent change for the sake of storytelling, because they can always make more money off of a returning face than some zany new character that nobody's heard of before. DC's comic continuity is fundamentally an universe without consequences, in which character development is based on what _sells_ rather than what makes sense. The Joker being given appropriate help and support so that he can live an ordinary life without butchering families over a bad hair day? Sure, that can work... for about half a comic run. Then it's right back to the good ole clown prince of crime, because that feeds off of people's sense of nostalgia, and afterall, it's worked for fifty years - why should it stop working now? And it doesn't. But it also trivialises any healthy development the character makes, and it makes Batman look like a fool.
    Yet, nonetheless, it is far better for Batman to retain his historic philosophy than to suddenly decide all the bad guys need to die - and this is something which DC at least seems to understand; if Batman well and truly stops being a paragon, then all the young folk who style themselves after him will develop an awful (and, crucially, _unrealistic_ ) perspective on the world. Is it a marketing thing as well? Yes, of course it is. But a hopeful outlook on life is not merely the purview of children, it is at this point in time the most proactive view for anyone in the world to have. Universal pessimism is a short road to developing behaviours harmful to both oneself and others, and it promotes a worldview with exceptionally narrow horizons.
    Yeah anyways I'm gonna go for a walk because this much online discussion has me craving grass and sunlight.

    What happens when you apply logic to life and death. Joker would continue to kill so long as he was living. The only way to stop Joker from killing, from a logical standpoint, is to kill him. This is why as much as I love Bats as a character, Punisher is right. Some criminals have to be put down. Its not enough to put them in prison/asylums when they keep escaping and keep killing.
    The sad truth is, Batman was always wrong. If society can't contain people like Joker, you have to have a Red Hood, or Punisher to stop them.

    Seeing all these comments talking about this kind of thing, I sometimes think about an interesting new story about a new kind of take on towards Batman and his "One Rule" finally being put into question and being the ultimate test for DC and it's fans that if Batman (and to an extent, the other close Bat Family members) should be truly held accountable to the deaths of all victims of the Joker (and other rogues gallery) that he murdered just because Batman wouldn't kill him when he instead constantly throws him into Arkham Asylum where Joker would easily get out and kill more people.
    Though, whenever or not this would either challenge Batman at the risk of his sanity and fear of falling towards the path of being unable to stop himself of killing more people that he could end up killing innocents OR, in a more darker interpretation of how people view Batman's morality, the risk of his ego and pride of only wanting to play cat and mouse with Joker and the other villains while having the thrill of beating up criminals but not killing them. This honestly feels like a new and fresh kind of thing DC should try for once.
