My fav detective show from that era… I always respected that he took a beating every episode, made private eye work seem like a tough guys game. I met him while he worked on 8 Simple Rules and told him all of this… he was gracious and a car muscle fanatic. rip
James Garner was awarded two purple heart medal - he was injured during the Korean War - which also left he injured for life - THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE MR. GARNER
THIS WAS A GREAT WORKING CLASS CHARACTER. THE WRITING AND CHARACTERS ON THE SHOW WERE INCREDIBLE. THE BAD GUYS WERE REALISTIC AND SCARY, THEY CALL THEM HOODS.
That movie that he did with Sally Field, “Murphy’s Romance “ must have been a breeze, he only had to drive that old car, ride a horse, wash some dishes, pretend to fix a toilet, and climb some stairs. Easy peazy!
Love the show, I've got them all on disc and rewatch them every few years or so. I've always been a sucker for PI books, movies and shows, Marlowe, Sam Spade, Lew Archer, Mike Hammer, Sherlock Holmes, Travis McGee, Spenser, Easy Rawlins, Dirk Gently...too many to list.
I knew the toll on Jim Garner from the stunts was why the show ended. NBC should have gotten GM to cover some of the costs. The Firebird and the GMC truck that Rocky drive were good advertising for Pontiac and GMC. GM could have easily covered the costs out of their advertising budget.
Garner won a huge lawsuit years later against NBC. He had a profit sharing contract and NBC told him every year that they lost money so they wouldn't have to pay him.
where did you get this explanation of why rockford ended? cause james garner said it was because he needed to take time off... the studio basically didn't believe him about his health reasons and sued him and he counter sued. that ended rockford. james didn't want it to end.
I have got a movie DVD of James Garner with Steve McQueen Charles Bronson Richard Attenborough Angus Lennie David McCallum Gordon Jackson Donald Pleasance and James Coburn in The Great Escape I am dedicating this movie DVD to my old school friends who are both sisters as I hope to see them both again very soon to Chris Marie and Hester from Billyxxxxx
@@ericwillingham6956 yeah they were. The trailer got trashed in every show, his dad got beat up, angel got in trouble and Jim shows up to help. While Jim is fighting angel takes off. Pretty much describes the whole series
@@carollemieux5254 Yes, except for the one episode where he didn't care for the egotistical client, who he was reluctant to take on. When asked his rate, he replied, "Two hundred....and fifty a day, plus expenses".
@@carollemieux5254 Yes, that's what made it a punchline. The episode I'm referring to is "With the French Heel Back, Can the Nehru Jacket be Far Behind?" (S5 E12)
Terrible video. At least you got the injury reason correct as the reason Garner walked away from the series. Most everything else is distorted or totally incorrect. The cost of fixing a car was peanuts compared to what other things cost on a series. He also didn't sue NBC. They had nothing to do with the syndication rights. Garner liked to sue studios, having gone to court with Warner Bros. over Maverick and then later twice suing Universal regarding Rockford. One of those was the case you referred to regarding syndication. If you're going to the effort of making these videos, try to get the facts correct.
Roy den Clark was the stunt coach and also did many of the stunts as well they both Races in the Saugus Speedway Races which raised funds for stunt performers and their families and themselves they we called the Reid Rondell Stunt Enduros
What actually killed the show was those God awful suits. I think on one of the episodes the suit Garner was wearing was so hard on the eyes that one of the cameramen went blind. I heard it even affected a couple viewers who became so disoriented they hurt themselves crashing into furniture like coffee tables and living room walls. They couldn't afford the lawsuits. lol
@@deeferguson9272 I am talking about some of those suits on the show like the white and black checkered sport coat that shimmered on the screen when he moved they would never put that pattern on today. Besides it was more tongue in cheek type comment.
It was a very good show, yet, it had ended all because of Jim who couldn't do anymore stunts due to his frailing health. I'd still watch it occasionally where the character was in every scene.

James Garner was one of my favorite actors. He was good in whatever role he played.
As Brett Maverick, he was terrific!
We strongly concur! Glad to know that you're a fan of James. In which role did you find him the best in?
Shoulda played Han Solo in Star Wars.

Great show James was a class act.
My Mom would throw a shoe at me if I talked during this show.

Without a doubt one of the great gunshoe detectives on TV.
Love the show and admire mr garner. I'm im in the UK and managed to find a beat up 77 firebird formula. This formula is now gold with a tan interior.

You truly don't understand back pain or even how movies are made, do you? 🙄
The Trees The Bees and TT Flowers, a Rockford Files episode, was listed as movie No. 138 on the Humanities Film Forum Must See List.
Very sad when the show ended. It had a real life quality to the shows approach.
Love Rockford Files….great writers….
Stephen J. Cannell, Juanita Bartlett, David Chase, etc. All first rate!
Excellent entertainment. I love Jim Rockford and those answering machine messages were so fun!

One of my all time faves...
Loved the series!
It was one of my fav shows back in the day in my early teens
I really like James Garner. He's one of my favorites 😊✌🐩
He had to take some time off so they cancelled it midseason

YES! One of my top ten favourite movies. Great cast! I have a DVD of it, too.
I loved the Rockford files even though all the shows were the same. Angel says Jim they beat up your dad, he's real bad 😆
No they weren't

They made 8 movies in the 90s not 6 that's a fact that's easy to remember
Love James Garner I love watching maverick every week good actor handsome 🚹
The Official James Garner Fan Page on Face book...run by a man that worked on the Rockford Files show...Great page !

If I wanted to see commercials, I'd watch television!
And this was such a silly product!
So true. Think we now see as much commercial time as program time.

He seldom wore suits, just sportcoats and slacks, which were what most men wore in the 1970s. Everyone did not wear tshirts and sweatpants like today.

I love this acting and I like the show but I wish it would have gotten a proper ending somehow that went with the character
Since you talked about a TV show curse in your last video, I feel like we need to see a video on Movies and TV shows that might be Cursed!
Bad title.
It was a very good show, yet, it had ended all because of Jim who couldn't do anymore stunts due to his frailing health. I'd still watch it occasionally where the character was in every scene.
By that time Jim couldn't barely walk or do anything, let alone stunts, because of his health.
Waaay to many commercials didn't make it halfway thru
No didn't know
What about Rockford file movie did they thought of that
Hmmmmm I liked Mavrick, but didnt really care 4 Rockford..
I’m the exact opposite. So, we’re both right
