In the 1960s (Yes, I'm old) I worked at the Deepwater HL&P Power Plant near Pasadena TX. If I was on "yard watch", once per shift my job was to clean the screens on the condensing water intakes coming out of the ship channel. Back then the water in that channel was very nasty, and we got all sorts of slimy disgusting creatures come up on those screens. Conversely, the Bacliff power station near Texas City provided employees hundreds of pounds of fresh live shrimp right out of Galveston bay when they washed their intake screens. I wonder if they are still doing that.

There was a large 4-5 acre cooling pond before it discharged into the river, the pond was off limits but the outflow was near the small boat launch. Wiggle a little light colored lure in that outflow water 'rapids' and get one every time. The power plant is closed now.

Years ago I used to belong to fishing club that had 3 different lakes right off of a big river. The club sold off a lot of the land to waste management and they developed there trade mark mountains of trash all around the lakes. Eventually after a few years we started noticing that some of the fish we were pulling out had tons of leaches on them and in them and some even had deformities!!
Point is that when fishing around facilities such as these beware of things both seen and unseen because you never know what is affecting and infecting the marine life!!

OMG, a Redfish! I wish I had about 3 pounds of Redfish filets marinating in my secret cajun recipe right now! Marinate overnight and deep fry for the best fish ever.
Recipe: 2-3 pounds of redfish filets
1- 8 oz of yellow mustard
1 bottle of Louisiana hot sauce
Mix & stir in bowl, add filets- cover and marinate in refrigerator overnight.
Prep for deep frying: pour the milk of choice into a bowl & in another bowl cornmeal or your favorite store batter. Dip filets in the milk, then into the batter. Fry until golden and floating to top. Guaranteed to put a smile on your face and warm glow in your body. NJOY.

    • @richardcoram1562
      @richardcoram1562 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

. well, man I reckon it could be called about any name you wanna call it.
It's actually a red drum, also known as redfish, channel bass, puppy drum, spot tail bass, or simply red
It is a game fish found in the Atlantic ocean from Massachusetts to Florida, and the gulf of mexico.
The red drum is related to the black drum, and both species are often found near each other. They can intrbreed.and form a robust hybrid, and younger fish are indistinguishable in their flavor.
It's known that in the early '80s, a famous chef Paul Prudhomme made his dish of Cajun style blackened redfish . His seasoning was sold commercially , and the dish became so popular that redfish were overfished to the point of near extinction.
I used to fish at a power plant lake. Lake Braunig just outside of San Antonio Texas.. they have to be really large to keep. Like Texas reds will be keepers limits 3 per day, 20 inch minimum - 28 inch max. The black drum limit is 5a day, 14" min.30" max .A single black drum measuring52 inches can be kept an counts in the daily bag. ✌🇺🇸⚓

Dude, I live in the greater Houston area. I'm in Singapore right now, but when I get back, I would love to get together and do some fishing. I really want to know where you were fishing that you caught such a nice Redfish in what is basically a drainage ditch. Was the water at least brackish? We used to own a vacation rental in Sargent, so I'm no stranger to fishing for Drum. Super-fun fish to catch, and once you show them who's boss, they tend to acquiesce. My biggest catch was a 36-inch, 43-pound Black Drum which I caught in my back yard in Sargent. Had to let it go, of course, because it was outside the slot. I caught another one of similar size, but never weighed or measured it. Threw it back right away in order to avoid stressing it.

You'll probably find a fish with 3 eyes in those waters.

I get the worst anxiety when I catch a catfish in my cast net , feels like that seen from legends of the falls when he was cutting the cow out the bar wire lol

People used to catch huge barracudas next to the Turkey Point nuclear power plant near Homestead Florida.

When I first started throwing a cast net I played the game "Name that state" because my net would be shaped like different states. I finally got to where I could throw a decent circle though.

We don't have white bass in my region I've often wondered if there as good to eat as our sea run striped bass? I doubt they'd be better, our big sea run stripers are phenomenal, but i wonder if they as good or almost as good
