Ian is not only an excepcional piano player, but a glorious fool, able to arrange and play with confidence on piano, and singing along, the most intrincated songs of prog, as this example. This is like a musical thesis.
OMG! That's awesome!!! Not only did you nail all the keyboard parts of Tony Banks with the funky time signatures but you got Peter Gabriel's singing down to the T. Fantastic job mate!!!
I especially enjoy you sharing your musical insight into your construction of these extremely complex pieces. They were impenetrable walls. Your sharing has made the constructs more relatable. Now more related to show tunes and thoughtful jazz chords, collapsing in odd time signatures. I would love for you to share more of your insight. But, that is always the complaint, for those who can't see. I thank you for sharing your glasses!
I don't care that it's not totally perfect - it just highlights how amazingly difficult this is, and how brilliant a pianist you are, as well as a fantastic interpreter of one of the most incredible albums in the whole of history.
My favorite Genesis cover OF ALL TIME!!! You have a gift that is extremely rare. I would pay big money to see you do this in an auditorium. Bless you sir...I can't stop smiling :)
Hi there! Thanks for those wonderful comments. I'm glad you caught the little drum part. I'm always looking for tiny details like that in the music I love too, so thanks for catching it. Sorry for the late reply. I appreciate you getting in touch and watching my videos. Cheers!
I"m working at night on call at the hospital and stumbled upon your videos. Thank you for bringing a smile to my night with your incredible talent and recreation of my favorite songs I grew up singing to, playing and enjoying. Your the best IAN
+John Conforti Thanks John. I'm so glad you could have a more entertaining and happy work time. It means a lot that you took the time to watch my videos.
Ian, You have read all the reviews, the accolades, what more needs to be said. This is awsome, can I suggest you record this amazing work. There are millions of Genesis fans! you are bound to sell, at the least 5-10,000 CD's
Oh my God. I'm too stunned to even think of a worthy compliment. I sit here frozen and catatonic in disbelief of this accomplishment. Your work with this album and this song has been the most exciting thing I think I've seen on TH-cam.. ever! This is even better than the toilets of the world :)
Ian, You have read all the reviews, the accolades, what more needs to be said. This is awsome, can I suggest you record this amazing work. There are millions of Genesis fans! you arer bound to sell at leat 5 - 10,000 CD's
Wow. This must have been quite an undertaking, along with the rest of the album of course. Really very happy to see this played on something other than a semi-cheesy sounding 70's synth- I'm a rare Genesis fan of the belief that these songs should not be played to the original, but rather using either more modern or, as in your case, classic instrumentation. In fact, I'd love to hear what these songs would sound like with a good modern analog synth. You are a true fan and musical talent, sir.
Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for your wonderful comments. Those are all good suggestions. I've actually worked on doing Hogweed and Cinema Show. I just haven't had the time to record them. I need to get at that, but I've been too busy making a living to find the time for the really fun stuff like this. Cheers and thanks again.
Wow...that was actually extremely entertaining. Really really awesome. Especially like the little bit around the 3:16 mark where you actually play Phils drum part that shoots through the keys. I know I notice the little weird things but I nearly giggles like a little girl when I heard that haha. Thanks for the great stuff!!!!
Sir, you seriously have something here. I'm not a marketer but I know that what I see and hear in these videos could be developed into a DVD and people would buy it. If you ever decide to do anything like that I would hope you send me the link - I would purchase the talent and brilliance you have captured in Genesis' Lamb.
just excellent !!! Amazing how you reproduce the real thing just with an upright piano !!! Your voice is very good too, of course not PG but very very good still !
@hyperboreal Alex.. your guitar work is equally astonishing. Who could possibly play the organ solo from Apocalypse in 9/8 on the guitar? I love youtube so much for making the music of such talented musicians so accessible.
ouch...you may not be perfect and precise as Tony... but... shit man... inside here there is the spirit and the soul of THEM ALL!! You make me sing with you. I f*****g luv ya! :)
+Yvan Veillette Hi Yvan! Thanks again. The coordination just comes from years of practice I guess. I spent most of my rock music years being the bass player and lead singer, so I got used to doing 2 different things at once. You just have to separate the brain into chunks!
I love this! yeah, first comment in 4 yrs on this but if you get this Mr. Ian, I think this is absolutely brilliant! You look like you are having and probably always have fun with this! Well done! It would be cool if I found out you live near Atlanta where I am so that we could jam together! I am a drummer and yes, I can hold my own with Collins...
HI Joseph! Thanks for that wonderful comment and for taking the time to watch my video. You are correct that I loved learning this and playing it for the video. It's always fun learning something challenging. Sadly, I haven't play these songs for years, so playing them again would be like starting over, but that's just a symptom of life getting in the way! Thanks again for the support. I really appreciate it.
@@iantanner Here I am a year later listening yet again, over and over. Though it's been years since you said you played them, I would hope you sparked up the wanting to play again since I last left a comment. Would still love to know if you live in GA at all. Otherwise, I'd love to have private conversation and use JamKazam to collaborate together remotely. I cannot find anyone who can play Genesis for the life of me. Shit, I'd pay you just to have one session lol, not really but yeah, I'm trying my best here...
I guess "The Colony" is one of the most difficult tunes to play and sing along, and even though the song belongs to the side that (IMHO) should have never been released (excepting for "It"), I think that your effort is worthwhile.
Maybe not so patiently anymore! Sorry! I started working on The Rite Of Spring, and for obvious reasons, it's taking more time than it's worth... meanwhile, other easier to play songs are getting ignored. I will try to correct that problem asap!
Just found this. Amazing! I hope you are making money doing this. I would buy this as an album. Have you heard the piano roll version of Rite of Spring? It’s how Stravinsky originally “recorded” it. I can imagine it taking a while to learn, considering you’d probably need 4 hands... But it is a brilliant way to listen to it. And fun fact (and challenge), the ending section as originally scored is meant to be played at pretty much double the speed we are used to hearing! Good luck! And good fortune!
again, i have to give you insane amounts of credit for even attempting this album. but where the hell can you find free piano scores for the lamb? i cannot find any, and ive done extensive googling... if u have digital copies of the scores, could you private msg me, and perhaps swap email addresses? lol.... this was great tho.
My favorite number on 'The Lamb.'
Brilliant work, love it.
Wooow fantastico, molto bravo👏👏👏

stupendous !!!!!!! BRAVO !!!
after 9 years still here stumbling upon your videos)))...Ian what has become of you?
I wish you were my neighbor man!
Wow. . .really brilliant. Well done!
you are truly gifted - well done! tony would be proud.
We want more! What about hogweed, or the knife? Or the selling England album? All stuff would be awesome!
Well, I am the first who watch this marvelous piece!
You are a genius Ian!
WOW! I just love this!
Just stumbled across this... I stayed with it right till the end - absolutely STUNNING All credit to you... I'm stumped for more words ...
Mad respect to anyone who can play weird Tony Banks polyrhythms and sing over them at the same time. Incredible work!
OMG! That's awesome!!! Not only did you nail all the keyboard parts of Tony Banks with the funky time signatures but you got Peter Gabriel's singing down to the T. Fantastic job mate!!!
Put a melancholy smile on my face...wonderful stuff. Thanks
Dude ... This is Famazing ... congrad
a very good work, congrats.....................spider fingers!
I don't know if you're still around, but that's just friggin awesome. Must have taken a LOT of work and dedication. Bravo!

No problem Ian. I tried for years, all instruments, still can't master it!
Cheers!

Muy Bueno. Felicitaciones.
Great Job! We need to chip in and get Ian’s Baldwin upright tuned. It’s pretty bad.
BRAVO!!!!
Thanks!
Just discovered your work. Amazing, enjoyable and inspiring.
Wow! Perfect! Awesome!

+Roberto Adrián Papaleo Emategui Yo no hablo español, pero he usado Google Translator. Me alegro de que te gustó mi vídeos.
This video sure helped me learn it, I still can't paste it together and still practice it in segments, but I'm getting there, thanks! :)
Thank you Finley. Really glad to hear that. Thanks for watching my video. Cheers.

Why dont you play this with the Slipperman costume?
It's honestly for your own protection!!
No one wants to see that costume ever! LOL!

No “Riding the Scree”?
i think tony banks has a run for his money!!!!
