This is an amazing work. You can be really proud, there is not so much people able to do it in one take as you did. You are an excellent keyboard player mate
Thanks! It was fun to figure this out. Great album! I just saw Genesis again on their current tour. I appreciated getting to see them again. Phil’s son was amazing on drums!
Damn straight about getting it on one take no flubs. I think we can all admit as prog keyboardists Tony struggled with his own compositions in a live environment.
Thanks! I appreciate the kind comment. Yeah, it's been awhile since I've done any Genesis. I hope to get back to it. There are plenty of Banks keyboard solos still to learn! I too enjoy seeing other people share their videos.
Can you imagine what must have been going through Gabriel, Rutherford, Hackett and Collins heads when they heard Banks come into the studio with this thing?
Bravo! This really is about as ridiculously complicated as Tony Banks ever got. Always loved the old CX-3, and the casio and the Alpha Juno sound great.
@@paulhoffman-music I figured it out bit by bit from an old TH-cam video of just the hands and keyboard of someone playing it. And when I say 'figured it out', I come to an abrupt halt immediately after 'I watch his countdown timer tick'. That's as far as I've ever got...
@@unbelievable_truth_band That's the same video I used to figure it out and that I referenced in my description. I transcribed it as best I could. It's handwritten but I'd be happy to scan and share. I just don't have the time at the moment to redo it on Noteflight.
@@paulhoffman-music LOL, I was thinking, HOW DOES HE KNOW? Oh, oh, yours....ok. It really was wonderful, thanks so much for sharing! I can't shake Slippermen and It from my head for the last week. It's been amazing! Usually when songs get stuck, it's a bad thing... Be Well!
Dear Mr Hoffman, just discovered the channel. Your version of Colony of Slippermen is the best I have seen on TH-cam. Like mentioned many times before, your Slippermen costume rocks!
Thanks so much, Alberto! Nothing easy about it. I remember this took far too many takes to get a satisfactory video. The intro to Firth of Fifth is tricky! Keep at it. Practice slowly and it'll click.
@@paulhoffman-music hehe, when I said "so easy" I didn't mean it really. What I meant to say is that you made it so well that seemed easy. I'm sure you had to practice a lot to get it so well!! I'll keep on trying with Firth of Fith, no doubt about it, just little by little...
Martin Klassic thanks! This was a satisfying one to work out. I did my own hand-written transcription of this one but I’m noticing more transcription videos of Genesis songs popping up recently. You should check them out, especially if you play! It’s been awhile since I’ve done any of these. I found a video recently of just the isolated rhythm section of the ending of Cinema Show, so thinking of working on that keyboard solo next.
Thanks! My back hurts just rewatching this! I remember it took several attempts to get through this. My tempo just kept getting faster and faster with each attempt.
LOL! Thanks for your comment and concerns, mr. kilpatrick. This was quite some time ago. New house now with new basement and working on a new setup. I will return someday with more prog!
Hi, just noticing this comment. When I originally started making these videos I wasn’t thinking about things like that. I didn’t have a iPhone stand and was just propping my phone up on a treadmill. I think I’ve gotten a little better in my production value since then but these are just for fun. Thanks for watching.
Thanks, and you're absolutely right. Faster than the studio recording, for sure. I was just happy to get a fairly clean performance of it. I should've listened to the original ahead of time to get the tempo in my ear.
One of the best compositions in prog history, which is always to say, in music history.
This is an amazing work.

Love to see all kinds of people playing Genesis, mostly The Colony Of Slippermen! i know this video is a few years old, but great job!

Amazing. Even more impressive is that you were able to play it while dressed in the slipperman costume. Exquisite.
🤣 I remember recording this after playing Sunday morning Masses. Still dressed for church.
I just proper lolled at that. Magnificent effort on the video though. Getting all those sounds as well as pulling off the parts. Very cool.
@@jandekker6008 I certainly gain a deeper appreciation for the music by learning these parts! Thanks for the comment!
I can't imagine, but they knew he was genius. They all helped form each other. And brought there level continuesly higher
Absolutamente brillante!!!!!
Thank you so much, Ernesto!
Well done sir!
Thanks so much!
Cela prouve encore une fois que le cerveau de Genesis est bien Tony Banks !!
Quelle imagination et quel bel utilisation des claviers !
Bravo! This really is about as ridiculously complicated as Tony Banks ever got. Always loved the old CX-3, and the casio and the Alpha Juno sound great.
Thanks! Yeah, I love how inventive and melodic his parts and solos were back then. This was a challenge to figure out and play through for sure!

Awesome playing of an awesome song. By the way, do you have any sheets? Thanks for sharing this masterpiece!
