Damn! This is my favorite Dusty Springfield song. I remember this from way back listening to WIP radio in Philadelphia when I was a kid. Her voice is just unsurpassed in its silky power. Even today I listen to so many of the British songstresses like Robin, Adele and others, but they don't touch Dusty. R.I.P.....
The Hairdo....the stylish pantsuit......the way she moves to the beat of this brilliant song. Watching this clip, now I remember why she was known as the Queen of the Mods. We are fortunate to be able to witness GREATNESS on TH-cam. Woody
This is the best version you will see or hear complete with the background singers intact. This is, hands down, one of the most soulful songs one will ever hear by any performer.
There's no way this talent will be kept tucked away for long. Just like many other artists, the height of her popularity may come long after her death.
Dusty's personality was something that really hit the spot. Aside from her music her good-huoured co-compering on Ready Steady was one big feel-good zone.
To me Dusty is at her most gorgeous, beautiful, sexiest best in this clip and in this stunning white outfit. The hair, the beautiful glossy tanned skin, the eyes and the classy, classy face and prescence. You'd be proud to walk in to any room in the world with Dusty on your arm looking like she does here!!! Sighhh!
When I was younger, you couldn't tell me this song wasn't sung by a Black woman !!!!!!! Dusty has sooo much soul in her voice-- doesn't matter if she's Black or White--her beautiful voice was silenced waaaay to soon....hope a cure for breast cancer is found soon.
Love this lady's songs. For me, it's "The Look of Love". Grab that special someone, turn down the lights, pour some wine, light some candles, put on that song and look out! LOL U.W.
I like to see Adele do this song. Not only that, but do the same things Springfield did-which includes putting her hand and arm in the air (as if she's controlling the tune) as she sings 'just because of you boy'.
LOOOOOOOVE when Dusty when she starts swinging to the music... (she starts around :40, then cuts loose at :53) and as for her version of this great song- it was a big hit, but this had SMASH written all over it. I'll never understand why it stalled outside the Top 10...
@KylesBeguiles928 I loved the late Dusty Springfield, she was truly a sexy soulful white sister who could really sing and I loved to watch her serve as host. The only other Caucasion sister that would hold in Dusty's class is the lovely Chris Clark especially during her brief years with Motown
Brand New Me This is my same old coat And my same old shoes I was the same old me With the same old blues And then you touched my life Just by holding my hand And oh I look in the mirror and see Brand new girl, I got a brand new voice A brand new smile Since I found you I've got a brand new style Just because of you boy Just because of you Just because of you boy Just because of you I've got the same old friends They got the same old sins I tell the same old jokes Get the same old grins But now the joke's on you And the laughter does too Every day of my life As as fresh as morning dew Just because of you boy Just because of you Just because of you boy Just because of you Just because of you boy Just because of you I go to the same old places To see the same old faces Look at the same old skies See them all with brand new lives
One of my favourites...... Love the whole album and its live feel.... One of the most underated songs and albums of all time....and yes Aretha did it later like Preacher Man....... And again NOT AS WELL... but who cares after all this time.... Dusty Lady Soul..... Dusty Empress of the Blues...Dusty Live in London.....Dusty in Memphis.... Dusty in Nashville..... Dusty in Heaven.........
@chuckbuckbobuck yes, and my best friend is one of those women she dated back in the sixties. How they met sounds like something from a movie and not real life. Dusty liked roller derby and went to the games. The woman I know was a derby skater and they met at a game Dusty went to. She has some good stories about Dusty.
To druhbe1996 re:pervasive racism in music, in particular, and in the world at large, I agree w/your sentiments exactly. Its the same old elvis as opposed to Chuck Berry as The King of Rock n Roll symdrome. Fast forward to the beegees as opposed to the Trampps as disco kings, etc, etc. This version can't hold a candle to the Gamble/Huff Jerry Butler version.
just found this quote. I suppose you know by now that this IS a Gamble/Huff/thom Bell production; they brought it to Dusty and prefer this one. The whole album (cut "live" in the studio is a motherfucker. I love the ICE MAN; this recording KILLS
Hmmm, his coming out seemed like a good thing for him but his staying in when he did had the same effect. My guess is that nowadays Dusty would have been the same avoiding gender specific covers while her original songs would have been gender neutral ..... "Just because of you boy" probably being "Just because of you babe."
@woody7075--unfortunately for us men more then likely Dusty would walk in the room with a woman rather then a man as she preferred her own sex more then the opposite.
@lasktguy--well your friend had good taste in women-hey-hey. Ellen Degeneres has good taste in woman--her wife is a fox as well. Rosie O'Donnell is another story altogether as I can't imagine too many men, or even women, for that matter would want to wake up next to that battle-ax!
It's art, it's fiction. Presumably you must think it is silly f artists to sing fiction. Maybe, for example, Tom Jones should have sung "Delilah" in the third person on principle. Same goes for Ellen Degeneres. Lesbianism is a real life sexual preference, not an artistic prison or cultural ghetto.

ddland45 my favourite Dusty song too. Damn she was good.

One of my favorite songs of the 60s never gets old
Brings back some wonderful memories!Great song and Great talent too!
Dusty was the greatest of them all.
Nobody else comes close.
Absolutely the best.
Dusty had the best performing moves!
*DAMN* sexy.

How great to see this performance online once again. Great sound quality too.
Thank goodness somebody got it. Thank for posting this gem.
Missed you Dusty
There's no way this talent will be kept tucked away for long. Just like many other artists, the height of her popularity may come long after her death.
Live no lip sync. Great voice. Dec 1969
Her voice and beauty were her gifts she shared with the world!
I love everything about Dusty !!! Miss her every day!
First Lady of "Big Hair" not one follicle out of place and sprayed to the max. So early 70's, so Dusty!
Dusty...truly perfect in every way.
I can't tell how much i love this woman. I hope she's in peace now! Rest in peace, MARY O'BRIEN
One of the greatest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Simply the best
Wow! What a song.
Dusty does it again. Amazing!
Heard a duet of this song on Rhythm Review radio program on NPR a few decades back! It was Dusty with Jerry Butler and fabulous!
Butler wrote it
Blue-eyed soul to the max !!!
Beautiful Dusty
The greatest female singer of ALL time, on either side of the Atlantic!
Thomas Sperduti yazzzzzzzzz speak the truth
truly, an immortal, an immortal talent
dusty had such an amazing voice. She was one of my favorites ever since she started back in the 60s. She was cool, and she had soul.
But it was ARETHA FRANKLIN who brought this Isaac Hayes song to LIFE.
2dasimmons Aretha is also one of my favorites. She's cool & of course she has soul, being it's Queen.
Oh PLEASE What an unnecessary comment!
Dusty's rendition sounds lovely.
I'm about to replay this(again !!!!)
Miss her

"BLUE -EYE SOUL".....SHE WAS THE BEST !!!
……her eyes were actually green!!
Steamy sultry smoldering voice just beautiful
Love this lady's songs. For me, it's "The Look of Love". Grab that special someone, turn down the lights, pour some wine, light some candles, put on that song and look out! LOL
U.W.
Listening tonight just before bedtime and wanted remember an oldie from years gone by.
A guy named Joe Bravo sang it also down here in Houston.
1in a trillion voice love u dusty
Just because of you Girl
WONDERFUL! Such a talented, pretty, soulful artist who left us far too soon. Thanks for posting.
A blast from the past.
It's a wonderfull!! Dusty is best singer of pop & soul from the sixties years.
I like to see Adele do this song. Not only that, but do the same things Springfield did-which includes putting her hand and arm in the air (as if she's controlling the tune) as she sings 'just because of you boy'.
❤❤❤Dusty❤❤❤ One of her best tunes.
I have always loved this songstress and of all her hits this is special to me.
LOOOOOOOVE when Dusty when she starts swinging to the music... (she starts around :40, then cuts loose at :53)

Love ❤ Love ❤ this song 😍💕
No one touches Dusty...so sexy and cool..
you're right, I should have prefaced my remarks with "in my opinion." thanks

Brand New Me
This is my same old coat
And my same old shoes
I was the same old me
With the same old blues
And then you touched my life
Just by holding my hand
And oh I look in the mirror and see
Brand new girl, I got a brand new voice
A brand new smile
Since I found you
I've got a brand new style
Just because of you boy
Just because of you
Just because of you boy
Just because of you
I've got the same old friends
They got the same old sins
I tell the same old jokes
Get the same old grins
But now the joke's on you
And the laughter does too
Every day of my life
As as fresh as morning dew
Just because of you boy
Just because of you
Just because of you boy
Just because of you
Just because of you boy
Just because of you
I go to the same old places
To see the same old faces
Look at the same old skies
See them all with brand new lives

Yeah Dusty 🌹😊, Tell 'em girl ❤
So great to see Dusty out of those hideous nightie type dresses she wore earlier on. she looks less of a drag Queen here but sorely missed x.
Does this woman kill it or what--the only person who could top Aretha--she was the best.
Bobby Martin arranging. Thom Bell arranging also. Most important - MFSB playing! Released on Atlantic, along with the Spinners and Stylistics.
Does anyone know what year this recording and where?
This is from 'The Music Scene' which aired on 10th November 1969 according the sources. 'Brand New Me' was recorded in September 1969 in Philadelphia
at 0.56 to 1.00: Davy Jones (Monkees) had same move.

Is this really live, or lip-synched? The vocal quality is so rich, unlike the live version from the late sixties.

@BJM4441 Nope, she's ashes!
Earl young on drums
By the way, I'd rather dance with Dusty then Davy any day.
@oviedoc5454 NO ONE, not Aretha, not Elvis, not Tom Jones, even comes close to Dusty's version of this song
